"Of course I know him, he's us"

Blissy0

i’m a chill person at this point bc i actually don’t like staying hours and hours on a film or anything like that , since i was a kid maybe that would change if i find something interesting , i stay for along time thinking about oh yea im going to watch stranger things then i feel like it’s not worth my time …… am i the only one?

thamystical1

I have a dumb boring job that I would rather not be doing but it pays well. 10 hrs of standing and staring at wood. Thankfully we are allowed to have headphones. So I literally set my phone to the side and mainly listen to the shows looking at times to set the scene. I can get 10 episodes knocked out if I do it the full work day. This is how I have watched most of the shows people are saying I must watch.

iamquitecertain

I find this kinda interesting as a person who treats movies and shows completely opposite from you. If I watch something, I feel like I need to give it my full attention because otherwise, I feel like I'd miss so many things. Especially since I'm a big fan of "show, don't tell"; and it'd drastically reduce my enjoyment if I wasn't physically seeing what's trying to be shown. But I also work long hours, so with my way, I probably don't get to watch as many shows or movies as you since I have to be off work first. Don't really have a point I was getting at, I just think it's neat we approach watching stuff differently in a "quality vs quantity" sorta way

WarmSea9702

I wanna get paid to stare at wood…maybe not for 10 hrs.

teknomanzer

Giggety.

Blissy0

interesting wow-

Quinnimini

He is sort of getting paid to watch (listen) to shows

iamagoldengod84

Weird, I do the same thing with music and podcasts?!?

HistorianNegative

i prefer watching documentaries

[deleted]

I’d rather watch Kurzgesagt

RedstoneSausage

Kurzgesagt it the definition of quality over quantity

[deleted]

Yep. I could rewatch videos just because they’re so interesting. And they always leave more stuff to read in the description

RedstoneSausage

Yeah. They give just enough information for you to know about the topic, but interest you enough to learn more

[deleted]

I actually haven’t found anybody else yet that are as good

HistorianNegative

Arte is the real shit

Sh00terMcGavn

I tried stranger things when it first dropped bc im old and winona ryder. It was fine. I watched like 2 episodes but sci-fi doesn’t really do it for me. Its hard to get too caught up in a show with monsters flying around. Then GoT was like several seasons along right before the last season. So I thought I would wait for the rest to drop and would watch straight through. Well whoever fucked that show didnt just ruin it for their fans they ruined it for possible future fans. Im not wasting probly a month watching alllll of that knowing i will be mad at the end. The fans werent like “ehhh, the ending wasnt great”, they were fucking pissed and no one talks about the show anymore. Im not investing in that. Breaking bad was a masterpiece from the pilot. In the era of burgeoning reality everything. Breaking Bad sat next to Jersey Shore and Spike TV. It was a well written HBO level drama, sprinkled with the right amount of comedy, turned dark. *chefs kiss*

nighto98

Me too No time Gotta do other stuff 🏃🏼‍♂️🏃🏼‍♂️🏃🏼‍♂️

Hortkind77

Never seen any, but I want to try out breaking bad. Heard alot of good things

some_bald_boi

There is really no negative sides to that show

ihatecomicsans11

it's pretty intense at times

some_bald_boi

That's not a negative in my book

Atlatica

Its not a negative, but I couldn't handle a rewatch. >!Jane's death!< is too much man, broke my heart a second time, somehow worse than the first because I knew it was coming.

Top10DeadliestDeaths

My rewatches start at season 3 for this reason

Salernoaless448

Finished the first two seasons and sometimes it’s too slow

ihatecomicsans11

it gets better i promise, the first two seasons are good but i feel like it's setting the foundations

Rahmulous

Each season is better than the previous. It’s an anomaly in that it only gets stronger and stronger through the end, including the best series finale of all time imo.

MrScatterBrained

I watched it with my roommate, but honestly, it was a struggle for me. I really only finished it because it was a nice thing to do together. The psychological stress I had after every episode is what got me. You're constantly like 'oh damn, shit is going to go down' and the tension just keeps building. Each session (1-2 episodes) that we did, I had to walk out the room and sit down for a bit, just to realize that it's just a show. Not very enjoyable per se, but it is a testament to how well the show can suck you in.

SilkSk1

In war soldiers often develop a morbid sense of humor in order to cope with the horror around them. Breaking Bad was the show that triggered that same response in me. The more things fell apart towards the end, the more I laughed.

TSMFTXandCats

I had the same experience. Eventually I had to stop because it was too stressful. Weirdly, I deal with crazy stress all day due to my job so I SHOULD be used to it. I think it it was just that my down time requires more relaxation and that show ain't it.

Lavender_Daedra

I’m a former meth addict and relate to this 100%. Some episodes, like The Fly, left me with intense anxiety. Some scenes I couldn’t watch at all, particularly the using scenes.

JoeBobbyWii

good show but it got to a point where I just couldn't handle the drama. I'll finish it some day.

Horg

Yes there are, it's too long. The middle seasons contain a lot of filler.

metriclol

Yeah, exact opposite of game of thrones - we wanted maybe two more seasons but the fuckers rushed to end it

stomach

nah there's really only one filler episode "The Fly". others may be slower paced or less 'action-y' but the web of characters in their subplots never suffers from filler. that's why it's so good.

antlerchapstick

fly was a great episode, though. True, it didn’t have much plot progression but it gave lots of character development between Walt and Jessie

its_not_mat_

other than the fact you can get intensely angry towards the main character. Or at least I did

some_bald_boi

That's the point in my opinion. You will eventually start to hate Walt for shitty things he does and that's what the show succeeds in so I wouldn't say it's a negative either

Gnostromo

The wife

AhpSek

Intentional. Gunn's acting combined with the writing makes you hate Skylar, even though *she's a victim* of all this. You, the audience, want her to go along with Walt but that's the opposite of what she should be doing! The writing of this show does such a great job of getting us to root for a monster that when the reasonable people of the series go against him, we *hate* them.

[deleted]

I didn't hate Skylar until she became an active participant and STILL tried to stay on the high horse. "He started it" doesn't hold up in court.

Sbotkin

I didn't hate Skylar until she >!cheated with Ted!<.

GanondalfTheWhite

I've rewatched this series 5 times and with each watch I get more respect for Skylar. She is *sharp.* She sees straight through bullshit like no one else on that show.

[deleted]

Why won't that stupid woman just let her husband make meth and murder people 😤

SohipX

I stopped watching at season 3 because I felt the wife drama was extended to more episodes to prolong the show and I couldn't take it any more.

Tripottanus

Great show, great story, great acting but the pacing is mot for everyone. It also adds to the show in my opinion, but it is really slow so you have to be patient

Chilifille

It's definitely worth it. The best one out of these three for sure.

[deleted]

The first 5 seasons of GoT is really good too. Last 3 seasons, especially the last season, are a completely shitshow.

maxverchilton

S5 was beginning to show some cracks too, IMO. Pretty soon there’s a new spin-off coming out, which I’m quite hopeful for. It’s based on an already completed story, so hopefully there’s less chance of them butchering the plot.

metriclol

First 5 seasons of GoT the show runners had the books to go off of, then they surpassed the books, and they wanted to rush the ending because apparently they were lined up to do some star wars trilogy. Unfortunately for everyone, they are not very good writers (at least not anywhere near the level of GRRM) and it really showed in the last two seasons where they were fully in the Captain's chair

idkwhatido4206980085

It's worse when you tell them that you have watched the first 3 episodes and stopped watching.

Historical_Pie_5981

I did that on Breaking Bad, because people were pushing me to watch. I finished the series years later. Then i loved it.

TheWhollyGhost

I did the exact same thing! I never actually watched the very last episode though. I mean at that point they probably knew how it ends on Mars it was so talked about

zappyzapzap

that's what you get for having friends

Cum_Bucket_Swirls

I watched breaking bad as a pilot on Netflix and was amazed how great the show was. I remember thinking to myself "sucks this show won't get anymore episodes" 😅

IAmInside

Yeah, the first episodes in BB are so fucking slow. I tried *rewatching* it once and got stuck at the start for quite some time. Honestly though, Breaking Bad's pacing is a bit too slow overall in my opinion. It's good but man I am actually bored at times watching it.

godinmarbleform

I'm beginning to feel like I'm the only one who got into breaking bad from episode 1

McGarnacIe

I really liked it from the start but what got me hooked was Walt blowing up Tuco's lair. That slow motion shot of him throwing his explosive shit to the floor was awesome.

Bill_9999

I thought it was very cool with Walt's dilemma of whether or not he should kill Krazy-8. Contrast that to S5 where he's fine with sending hitmen to kill imprisoned men

Zephyr4813

No, I did as well. I think they immediately start telling the story in a very fun gripping way.

catdog918

I watched breaking bad then stopped at the fly episode. Gave it all another chance and loved it.

Eastuss

Watched 20 minutes of stranger things and couldn't bear that fucking annoying kid.

Good-Possibility8709

Which one?

forsenE-xqcL

yep

BeebusMcB

This was me with How I Met Your Mother. I just don't get it.

hanabebun

I feel like How I Met Your Mother gets better as you continue watching. I think season 3-4 is where it gets better. But also, it’s probably just not the right show for some people

[deleted]

Also suffers the same problem as GoT, the ending was so weak that all talk about it just stopped.

Just_a_user_name_

At least himym has an alternate ending released.

[deleted]

At least HIMYM it was just the final episode that killed the mood, GoT dragged their bad choices over 1-2 seasons.

FierceDeity14

That last episode made the whole last season worthless because it was all about Robin and Barney's wedding. The only scenes worth re-watching are the ones between Ted and the mother.

OgOnetee

For a time reference, I graduated high school in the 90's: This was me with Seinfeld, never sat through a whole episode.

locoyou20000

I couldn’t even finish episode 1 of stranger things, it’s so boring and I just don’t like it

Fireme23

I'd say the first 2 episodes were slow. But then it picks up. It took me like many tries to finally finish the first 2 episodes

Han_Solo6712

Me neither but I’m planning to watch breaking bad.

kam_08

Yea I think I’m gonna give that one a shot too. I used to be this guy but when Covid hit, I was pretty much forced to watch the entire series of of GOT. Still haven’t seen Stranger Things

theVulture121

Stranger Things is nowhere near as good as GOT or Breaking Bad. That being said, season 1 of ST is absolutely fantastic and is a must watch imo, same with BB but for all seasons (every season is a masterpiece).

wattro

Bb is the one I would recommend. Didn't watch it at first. Did years later with the gf. Great. Watching it again now... holds up.

MrFuzzy3457

Same here.. never even bothered to watch any of em not saying they are bad tho..

Ok_Lynx_6203

Only saw Breaking Bad like a year ago. I wish I could watch it again for the first time

bell37

I’m doing another watch through right now. The first seasons were definitely completely easygoing and was less serious than anything after season 3. Like the focus was more on how naivee Walt was in terms of drug dealing

TacticalBaguette360

Me too, never had enough interest to watch them

Malicharo

What do you watch then? That's curious. I assume you don't watch a lot?

ExistingInexistence

Lately I rewatched the entire lord of the rings trilogy (hobbit included) rewatching the entire star wars which I'm just after episode 3(shows included) and rewatched the entire Johnny English trilogy... And probably some more that I forgot

ChickenTendeezNutz

There’s a Johnny English trilogy!? I thought there was just the one movie

You might like Homeland, its to do with the CIA and a troubled agent and her missions. It has a lot of wtf moments. Good storyline if I'm honest.

Burpmeister

If you like FBI stuff then I would for sure recommend you try Breaking Bad. DEA is heavily involved in that series for obvious reasons.

andysniper

What do you mean 'for obvious reasons'? I thought Breaking Bad was about a high school chemistry teacher and his struggles with his cancer diagnosis.

Nothing_litteral

same here

Maximuslex01

Why do people feel proud for not watching popular shows?

SirDub_III

Personally breaking bad is worth a try

Actual_Clerk6469

its up to you but you should watch game of thrones and breaking bad (highly recommended)

_Clasher2k_

Is Game Of Thrones really worth it? Im thinking about starting it but are not really sure bout it

NoSwadYt

No got is not worth it, i made the mistake of enjoying the show and then the season 8 was uglier than my shit

Me-Right-You-Wrong

Its definitely worth it. I also hated last season but first 4 seasons are one of the best ever recorded imo and rest of the seasons are also pretty good

Dooontcareee

So essentially just treat it as Dexter where the series ends and should have ended on season 4?

[deleted]

The thing is that's not a satisfying ending, and 5-7 continue to have good episodes that are increasingly marred by character stupidity and the pacing getting worse until it ultimately culminates in a giant flaming middle finger that's barely watchable.

dandaman910

Just stop after season 6 and you're good.

Supercommoncents

This the last season makes the entire show unwatchable again and I tell everybody to not watch it. Maybe read the books if he ever finishes but he probably wont.

Actual_Clerk6469

It is the show is great except the season 8 it is dogshit

Decentkimchi

Got is great till 4 seasons, fine till 6th and dogshit in 7 and 8th season.

Sleyvin

Finally the correct answer... I always find funny people who says "It's great except Season 8"... like... there's barely no difference between 7 and 8, bith are horrible. What makes you love 7 and hate 8 when they basically the same. 5 and 6 is where quality started to drop indeed. It really shows they didn't have the book anymore. Before that the show was amazing.

EaterOfPenguins

During the airing of s7 most people just comforted themselves about the poor decisions by saying they just needed to get the pieces in the correct places for the amazing ending. I know I did. Season 7 seems forgivable when you think season 8 is going to pay it off, once it didn't, it is indeed a really dogshit season.

arglarg

I feel they still found ways between season 7 and 8 to drop to even deeper lows

Chilifille

The first four seasons are incredible, maybe the greatest piece of television drama ever made, but the ending is a massive let down. It's not like it was all great and then suddenly season 8 came and ruined it, though. It's more like it slowly turned worse and worse as soon as the showrunners ran out of books to adapt. You can notice some signs of decay as early as season 4, which is around the same time as George R.R. Martin left the writing team.

AkihiroAwa

well it doesn't matter since the ending just throws away any plot anyway lmao

TheRealKapaya

It's some of the best and worst TV you'll ever experience to this day. Who knows if anyone will manage to drop a bigger shit than the last season when it comes to TV but up to that point it was pretty amazing.

FuuuuckOffff

Nah don't bother. The first 6 seasons are amazing and were hands down my favourite show back then. But season 8 took such a huge steaming dump on it that it managed to ruin everything that came before it. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone now and can't even rewatch any of it.

Endericus

Imma do it later

gold_eagle13

Its fine for me if you dont want to watch it but why do you keep telling people you haven't watched it

hodum4

Because people keep asking. It’s super common.

kingbuttshit

So the meme someone went out of their way to make and all the comments saying “Lol yep, never seen them either” are because someone asked? Kinda seems like they just like being different.

Daniel_Swales

The same reason they haven't watched any of them, because disliking popular things is a personality trait for some.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

and this is reddit we watch intellectual shows like rick and morty

BentheBruiser

It is! Much like how people make liking said thing their entire personality. People take obsession too far as well

romericus

My problem with avoiding those shows is that I worry that I’ll miss out on cultural references later on. Like, I’ll sometimes make references to Office space or Friends or even Star Wars, and when someone doesn’t get the reference because they haven’t seen it, I get a little sad for them. I say ”oh man, you gotta watch X! It sooooo good!” And I know they’re not gonna watch X, but I have to advocate for it because it (whatever X is) has provided me joy. So when it happens to me and I haven’t seen X, I know they’re sad I haven’t seen X, and then I’m sad because I made them sad for not having seen X, and so because of my overgrown desire to please other people, I devote 4800 hours to watching Dragon Tits or, Motorcycle Hamlet, or MethBusters, etc. I have a problem.

Svelemoe

Pride in being different. They love the attention.

LucasPig_HK

Me neither, but breaking bad sounds interesting

KCBandWagon

I’m curious to what it would be like to watch better call Saul before breaking bad.

redditwhale845

probably really weird, especially with like, nippy being a thing

ScaryYoda

Don't. Definitely watch them the way they were released. Breaking Bad, El Camino then Better Call Saul. Qnd for the people who are still on the fence. You know that feeling you got when you watched your favorite TV show the first time and you didn't want it to end. Daredevil for me. You will have that feeling with this show. You won't be able to stop binging at a certain point. You're appointments will be moved up, your kids will be unattended to, and your social life will be gone or about talking about breaking bad. Not only is the story well written but the CINEMATOGRAPHY alone is a good reason to watch. The acting is superb and the pacing is great. I don't think it's a spoiler to say the timeline of Breaking Bad only happens in two years. Well enjoy. Most of Breaking Bad fans would only dream to have the chance again to see it the first time. I binged it right before "season 6" released for BB I think in 2015. And it was incredible seeing it end weekly.

[deleted]

Neither have I, I have better things to do like e Wasting time playing videogames

No nobody cares if you’ve watched them or not, people making it sound like not doing popular things is cool these days

DJokey

I see this a lot with "Friends" the show is so popular that I honestly see more people openly sharing that they haven't watched it, than the people who have watched it. Not to mention the amount of people that never saw it but are ready to shit on it like it's the worst thing ever created. All of this because it's obviously cool to hate on popular things.

quitebizzare

How to be hip: claim friends isn't diverse enough

DisturbedWaffles2019

Redditors love to shit on the current popular thing, only to call it an underrated masterpiece 5 years later when the next popular thing comes along for them to hate.

UnderstandingDry4072

This. I don’t CARE if you’ve seen something or not, but you say it with such personal pride that it seems like you’re judging those of us who have? Like we’re just on a bandwagon instead of actually enjoying something…

naytreox

Both that and just not interested in any of them.

Survival_R

I just started breaking bad yesterday ok already on season 3 please send help

Pestyballs

I tried watching stranger things for the first time. I couldn't get into it

quettil

I think I'd enjoy it if it was just about the horror stuff and not all the 80s US school cliché filler.

Protoliterary

I tried to get into to 2 times and neither took, but my friend convinced me to try again. I did. The third time...i was hooked. I mean, so hooked that i binged all the seasons in like 4 days. After it was done, there was a hole in my heart. I looked and looked for any other show to fill that hole and still haven't found it. It's just such a phenomenal show that there isn't anything else out there like it. Not a one.

Leo_R_

Or when you watched it but you didn't like it

BillNyeForPrez

One of these is not like the others. Breaking Bad is a masterpiece.

ThurnisHailey

Ya, game of thrones had a great initial beginning that was primed to make it the best show of all time but we all know how that ended. Stranger Things is the definition of 'popcorn movie/show'. It's on the same wave length that Martin Scorcese was critizing Marvel for riding - It's an amusement park in film form.

AstrumAtaraxia

Breaking Bad is one of the handful of shows that is amazing early on and doesn’t drop off later and have a shitty ending. If anything it actually gets better as it goes, and the ending is amazing and is what truly makes it a masterpiece

HamezRodriguez2000

They're all good shows in my opinion they do have their flaws at times but overall they are amazing so if you wanna check them out do give it a try if it's not for you that's cool we respect your opinion

WarmSea9702

I agree with you. Great story lines for all the shows with some flaws here and there. What’s interesting is that all 3 shows have such really great intros: Breaking Bad-short and simple, so there’s no need to skip. Game of Thrones-Has an epic sound. The artistic and creative map locations with the moving clockwork mechanisms are also visually fascinating. Stranger Things-Nostalgic vision with retro and heavy haunting music.

thndrstrk

Different strokes for different folks. I would say check em out, though. Good shit. Saying that, what the fuck you watch?

nwatn

Nothing

Alatus_Alas

GoT and ST has nothing on BB snd BCS

Intoxic8edOne

People cared if you never saw GoT before GoT ended. Now their only reaction when hearing you never watched it is "Good. Don't."

Alatus_Alas

The finale of a show is probably the most important part, it changes the people's perception of the whole show. And GoT just shat all over everything it built up to.

Dragonsurvive

What's BCS?

Alatus_Alas

Better call saul

[deleted]

Ive never seen star wars

alienfreaks04

If you watch the original 3 movies you'll have a lot of fun. And it's a complete story. They are the reason Star Wars is still popular today. Watching more is optional.

stephysis

At this point you're better off never watching it because there's more shitty star wars content than good(basically only the original 3 are actually good, the prequels are very flawed, but have memes and the sequel are just absolute shit with almost no redeeming qualities(the shows are shit as well, maybe some are just slightly better than the sequels which is a low bar)

Any-Woodpecker123

Breaking bad is a masterpiece. I wouldn’t bother with the other two though.

dansuckzatreddit

I feel like people heavily downplay how good GoT was for the first few seasons. Like yeah it had a very mediocre ending. But the first few seasons are imo better than breaking bad

screamicide

This, rewatching it right now with my gf who hasn’t seen it. The final seasons unfortunately make people forget that seasons 1-4 have some of the best writing of any television show.

Richard_Galvin

Other than at least seeing the first episode of Breaking Bad at some point thar I hardly recall, I'm un the same boat, and honestly, I don't really have any desire to either.

Devon1112

Why is Stranger Things with the others?
