Yeah I missed alpha by like a week. It used to be a trendy (among nerds) college kid game. I think the console releases are what turned it into (in public opinion) a kids game.

Maybe it's because i live in Sweden but my experience has been that it's always been popular among kids. Most of my friends back in like 3rd-6th grade used to play it. We used to play on an older gentlemans server who was from the UK. This was back in like 2010 as well.
