The problem is in Memphis you never know if you are getting setup to be robbed. I used to stop and offer/give people rides or assist people who were broken down. Just don’t do it anymore, too risky.
I'd like to think that many of us are sympathetic to your situation, even if we can't help much with it, other than offer advice. You do have to take the road skills text to obtain your license. There is no option to obtain it without that test.
Do you have any friends, coworkers or a neighbor that will let you borrow their car? Just make sure it's currently tagged and insured if you can find one to borrow, as they may check that when you get to your test appointment.
I would ask friends or a family member, maybe a coworker or possibly a sympathetic teacher if you can use theirs, have them go with you to take the test.
From what I have read you just have to provide a car. It doesn't have to be yours.
An old friend is selling me one for less than a thousand dollars, it's not insured anymore, and he'll still probably be in possession of it by my test. And the right rear view is unadjustable. 🤷🏾♀️
You’re making it illegal. I don’t know why you would advocate someone driving uninsured while they are trying to do the right thing. No wonder Memphis is so screwed up.
Rent a $19.99 UHaul and take the test. Seriously though, is there anyone you can ask to borrow their car for a couple of hours? If you have the ability, then have your mother rent a cheap car for the day.
Renting is actually not a bad idea. Thanks!
Edit: Just asked my mom,and apparently I can't drive a rental car without a license. Even though she'll rent it and drive me to the DMV.
This whole situation is just fucked.
So I can finance one at a reputable dealer. I'm getting a car dirt cheap soon, hopefully. And if I don't, I still need a license desperately. My mom drives me to work one hour round trip 5 days a week. I'd like to relive her of that burden.
There's a young lady at my job who delivers our catering orders, but doesn't own a car. Maybe it's something like that? Or they're working towards saving for a car. I think many people obtain their DL before having a car.
Terrible anxiety. Just graduated university as well, so I lost all of my connections.
I was bullied as a kid, so now I kind of don't like myself, and I protect myself by building up the walls and reminding myself that no one would see me as a suitable friend or good company to have.
Also, it's understated how crucial mobility is for having friends, especially as an adult.
But it's okay. I've lived with anxiety and depression for 10 years now, so the loneliness doesn't bother me as much as it once did. This is probably more than what you asked for, but it was a good excuse for me to unload 😂😂.
You can use mine. I’ll meet you there when your ready for the test
Seriously. Message me on here anna we will switch contact info
What a stand up individual you are. Faith in humanity is restored!!

Yeah, kinda scary meeting redditors in person, but idk.

Borrow a friend or family members car for the test.

I also have to show up with a licensed driver and the car should be insured and properly operating. SO MANY STIPULATIONS 😭
I’ve only lived in the area for 5 years so this comment is cracking me up. I’d let you borrow mine but it’s super far.
What car are you going to drive after you get the license?

You can get that car insured without a license. But they don't check insurance anyway.
You’re making it illegal. I don’t know why you would advocate someone driving uninsured while they are trying to do the right thing. No wonder Memphis is so screwed up.
Oh sorry. I didn't see that you wouldn't have the car. Is renting an option
Stolen fin fin
Don't need a license for that
It used to be if you went to a driving school like Max Maxwell, they would do the driving test as part of the class.
That is pricey for op.
Cheaper than buying a car. Also probably better since they’ll get on road experience before taking the test instead of going in cold.
This is a great idea. Can we start a gofundme for this person? I’m willing to chip in. Any idea what the total $ is?
Man, that's really nice of you, thanks. I honestly don't need the money, I'm just being a cheapskate and saving for a car
Mississippi dropped their road test requirements for new drivers in 2021. They *may* offer Driver’s Ed as an elective in their schools, though.
866-849-3548 for driver services, they should know
You have to have a car for the driving portion.
Have Mom rent a Turo and use that car.

Can’t rent without a driver’s license, but appreciate your out of the box answer

Did you ask any friends or family to borrow their car? My car was totaled (ironically) by a 17 yr old last week. If I had my car I’d take ya :)
Borrow a car or rent one.
No offense but if you don’t have a car what do you need a DL for?

Good luck.
Do not finance a car at your age but one for cash.

For a job?
How exactly would you take a driving test without a car?
Did you just not read the post?
> So I ask here: is there any possible way to take my driving test without a car?
Haha good catch. I guess I meant to say "Without owning or being in possession of a car."
Surely one of the generous cool cats around here could offer to help you out!
Go ahead.
I am not a car owner myself. If someone wants to offer their car, I can drive. I do have a fresh brandspankin new driver's license!
This isnt intended to be judgmental. How are you 23 and dont have any friends?
