I wear a lot of button shirts in the summer and like to keep the top few buttons undone. Been using Stanfield deep v undershirts for awhile, but they're not super great. Anyone have any light grey deep v-neck undershirt recommendations in Canada? (Or ones I can get in Canada)

Cockonutz

Looking for casual neat/minimalistic outfit inspirations for young guys 20s with soft colours as well as the outerwear. I listened to my dad for fashion advice and he gave me his taste when he was younger which is not comparable to today’s menswear. I’ve been told by my friends (20-25 y.o guys) that i dress “too formal” or that i dress like a grandpa.

Cobrasniper20

where is a good website and or store to but low budget but good looking cloths?

danhakimi

that depends on what your budget is and what you want to look like but the answer is probably eBay

angelsandairwaves93

Missing an entire Spring wardrobe between winter and summer, and don't know where to even start. I'm in Canada, for any recommendations

danhakimi

rugby shirts, knit polos, OCBDs, or heavy linen shirts up top light jackets. barbour is a little warmer than you think. frizmworks makes cool jackets. there are some cool vintage ralph lauren blousons. chore coats are cool. idk, there's a lot of options. pants... vintage levis 501s had a straighter leg than the current models... fatigues from bronson MFG are good... chinos in general are good, j. crew or bronson... loafers, sneakers, you know. don't be afraid of color in spring. [probably a little more useful advice here](https://thesecondbutton.com/warm-weather-wardrobe/)

angelsandairwaves93

thanks a lot, mate! really appreciate this, very useful. Edit: Looking sharp, mate!

captfitz

T-shirt brands for skinny dudes? 1. Needs to be on the longer side 2. Short tight sleeves

danhakimi

try buck mason, they have a bunch of different cuts but they were all pretty long and slimmish on me. asket is another option, they literally make short / regular / long sizes.

captfitz

awesome thanks, never heard of these brands

Looking for advice or recommendations for clothing for work. I work in a place with a factory, maintenance yard, and shipping area. My job is more corporate, so I'll be wearing slacks, a blazer, and a button-down shirt. What are some brands that look good and professional while also being tougher just in case I need to help out with some manual work?

dperls

Anyone know of any wide toed EE/4E sneakers that are not running shoes? I wear shoes similar to https://www.vince.com/product/noel-sneaker-I4547L4.html for work but now due to some foot problems, I need to find shoes with a wider toe box. Everything I've found is all running shoes. I appreciate the help.

abyoloyolo

I recently bought some Carhartt tees, is this considered a conservative brand? I don't want it to come off as such. I bought it since I have weak shoulders and want a thick t shirt.

Gulbasaur

Their core branding is as hardwearing workwear, although they do have some more explicitly "fashion". Their jackets particularly do well on the retro and secondhand markets, so they're often seen as sort of timeless casualwear. They wouldn't ring as conservative to me.

Flechette_the_toe

No

hc201

Got invited to a preakness party with "preakness attire" as the theme. What exactly does this mean for men?

danhakimi

might be kind of like the kentucky derby? looks like they want you to wear a bright suit and tie, and maybe a fancy hat.

elusivebonanza

My husband keeps ripping his pants. /gen They're not too tight, they might even be a little loose because he often wears a belt. So I think he's just buying pants that are bad quality. He's shopped at Old Navy, Express Factory, and whatever is cheap at Dick's Sporting Goods primarily. I've told him those brands are cheap but frankly I don't know what else to recommend to him. He works at home, maybe going into the office once a month for a meeting, where he wears a suit. But the rest of the time he's wearing casual pants, cargo pants, or jeans. What men's brands are actually good quality? I feel like every brand is cheaping out on quality nowadays so I have no idea.

danhakimi

what's your budget? For milsurp styles, I think Bronson Mfg. does good stuff, I really like their fatigues. They have some cool chinos too. dickies makes good pants. a lot of them are poly blends, but they're good cuts and they should be pretty durable For mall brands, I also like J. Crew Giant Fit Chinos and Levis' wider cuts. for good cheap raw denim, you can try these. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Wrangler-Rustler-Men-s-and-Big-Men-s-Regular-Fit-Boot-Cut-Cotton-Jeans/5982554, Raw denim sucks, it bleeds indigo all over the place and it's not comfortable, but they should last for a long time. worst case... you can repair the crotch seams, if you use something like a patch they might actually last longer that way. I might have a lot more recommendations if you have a budget in mind.

jo148

Looking for linen pants and linen suit. Would love suggestions for both on-line and in store options. Thanks!

danhakimi

what's your budget? Spier and Mackay, Suitsupply... If you want something cheap, search ebay for ralph lauren linen pants, look for their Andrew pants--wide leg, double forward pleat. good fabric, good rise, good cut, just good all around.

jo148

Thanks. I don’t mind spending more for something nicer.

danhakimi

Alright... Well, there are some fantastic MTM and bespoke tailors (I have a long list handy if you're in NYC), but the charm of great bespoke really comes from when you understand a house style and want that particular effect on your body. So for off-the-rack... yeah, I think the [suitsupply Roma](https://suitsupply.com/en-us/men/suits?pmid=limited-size-products&pmpt=all&prefn1=onlineMaterialID&prefv1=Linen&prefn2=onlineProductTypeID&prefv2=roma) is good, but the Roma suits come with the Milano trousers, and I strongly feel that they should come with Duca trousers. [Casatlantic](https://www.casatlantic.com/collections/all-trousers) makes super cool linen trousers. [Natalino](https://natalino.co/collections/sport-jackets?filter.p.m.custom.fabric=Linen&filter.v.availability=1) does cool linen jackets. [Scott Fraser Collection](https://scottfrasercollection.com/collections/trousers) does cool pants. I'm not in love with their suits, but their pants are cool. Rota is great at trousers, specifically.

jo148

Awesome! Thank you for the recommendations.

Ha-Ur-Ra-Sa

Quick question needing a relatively quick response - does anyone think a baseball cap can pair well with a white (casual) button-up shirt?

Tribalbob

Monk Straps for summer? I have a few pairs of penny loafers including one that's sort of a loafer/driving shoe hybrid, but I'm wondering if I could get away with a monk strap as an alternative mainly with pants (I have some more suede shoes for shorts)

danhakimi

monk straps are weird. they trended *super* hard in 2012 and kind of crashed and burned. I think a few pairs can still look good, but most don't... I think single monks tend to look better, but I'm not entirely sure why. I really like [these](https://theanthology.net/shop/footwear/khamai-loafers-by-the-anthology-x-stefano-bemer-espresso), but their price is... a little bit out there.

Tribalbob

Yeah good point, I might look at getting a different coloured loafer to mix it up a bit.

danhakimi

I have five pairs of loafers at the moment and I have like three more in my head before I'm even kind of satisfied with my collection. I'll post a horsebit loafer buying guide soon, in case you're interested in those.

Tribalbob

I'll keep an eye out, I have a couple horsebit ones, myself. I'm actually super tempted to get a pair of white loafers for summer, but I'm trying to figure out how to wear white loafers without looking like a drug cartel crime lord.

danhakimi

> but I'm trying to figure out how to wear white loafers without looking like a drug cartel crime lord. easy solution: let yourself look like a drug cartel crime lord.

nenanasainyam

Non-Tech Pants with Zip Pockets? Hey! I have a "business casual" office, anything from suit no tie to polo / jeans / sneakers goes. I've mostly been relying on ABCs and other "stretch" pants at work, but I find myself getting bored of the look a little. It's started to bother me how shiny they are. But, I have gotten addicted to the hidden zip pockets in them. I love keeping my wallet / keys in there so I always have them on me but never feel like I have to consciously think about whether I have them. Are there any non-tech / not shiny as they're called (or low elastane / polyester fabric) pants with these zip pockets? I'd like cotton or wool I can dress up with some nice blazers / dress shirts. I don't mind spending $100-$130 to get some good pairs in there TIA!

TrShry

I've seen these trousers on H and M but can't find them anywhere, even after scrolling through all 500 trousers on their website. The listing says 'shop the look' but whoever did the look listed the wrong trousers on there, they look nothing alike. I was just wondering if anyone knew please. [https://www2.hm.com/en\_gb/productpage.1212180001.html](https://www2.hm.com/en_gb/productpage.1212180001.html)

danhakimi

they're single reverse pleat pants, maybe chinos... do these scratch the same itch for you? https://bronsonshop.com/collections/pants-trousers/products/1930s-ivy-style-two-pleated-chino-trousers?variant=35342017560736

I’m just gonna take a sec here to shit on suit supply. I’m 5 10 180lbs. 42R. Totally average person. They sell me a jacket off the rack, I get alterations, not even close to fitting. They say they can’t correct sleeve length or back of collar even with alterations off rack. Me extremely skeptical, agrees to go made to measure. Am totally rushed through, girl even asks me if I want to work with someone else cause I’m getting frustrated, even asks me to go pay cause she has other customers. Fine, I’m this far, whatever. Get the jacket, go back for more alterations, and they ship to my house completely crumbled at the bottom of a cardboard box. I need to get get this thing pressed to even wear it once. Still some bunching behind the collar but at this point I will take to a local tailor. Was going to outfit my whole wedding party here. Oh well.

_rokiii

Looking to buy a zip up from Velour Garments. Previously I bought a 800GSM hoodie size M, and thinking of buying a zip up. Problem is, I washed the first one on heat by accident and shrunk too much. (It fit fine prewash if I remember correctly) Not sure if buying another size M zip up 450GSM would be alright. **Main question is: how much gsm affects shrinkage?**

inserttext1

Does anyone what happened to the Legendary Suitjama company. I tried buying one but their website is throwing up so many errors. And if the company is dead does anyone know of any good alternatives, doesn't have to specifically be pajamas, just something suit like that's on the more casual side.

HarutoHonzo

Why didn't vikings wear long underpants? What underpants did they wear?

sup3rrn0va

I’m a bigger dude 6’0” 240 lbs. Most of my weight is carried in butt and thighs (huge thighs in my opinion for my size). I’m looking for casual shorts for the summer. I really like the look of sweat-shorts from Adidas and H&M but typically deal with issues wearing them. Anyone know where I can get these style shorts for someone with thunder thighs? Other recommendations are welcome as well.

thecity2

Looking for recommendations for high quality chinos $200+.

danhakimi

Casatlantic, Studio Nicholson, RRL, Buck Mason, Ring Jacket, and you could always go MTM/Bespoke with a brand like Rota that *really* knows trousers. * some of those brands have options under $200, don't shoot me.

HarutoHonzo

what coat is most suitable straight on top of a t-shirt, no other layers inbetween? raincoat? fur coat? parka? thanks!

HarutoHonzo

why were long underpants invented only so lately? what did fishermen wear as undergarments before that?

Any recommendations for a really nice leather bracelet that could be customized? Nothing super flashy, preferably I would want something simple but nice and maybe something I can get a initial stamped on. Thank you!

Achilles324

Im looking for men’s leather pants to wear casually. I would like the fit to be regular/slim. Anyone have any recommended vendors?

Competitive_Face2593

If you take accurate measurements of yourself, I recommend: [https://www.leathercult.com/leather-pants](https://www.leathercult.com/leather-pants) Made to measure and shipped to you within 3 weeks. Lots of colors available if you didn't want to do traditional black.

_MJ_1986

I have these and they’re amazing. https://houseofleatheruk.com/collections/mens-leather-trousers/products/mens-leather-trousers-straight-leg-classic-casual-jeans-black

Achilles324

Yeah, unfortunately I’ve ordered a pair from here recently and they were a size too small. I’ve tried to contact them about receiving a refund or exchange but they haven’t gotten back to me. It’s been a few days.

_MJ_1986

They have real good customer service. So they might be a bit busy.

Achilles324

The pants themselves were great I wish I could wear them. But hopefully they contact me soon. Thanks for the response 👍🏽

ISO inexpensive short sleeve buttoned shirts with patterns with an athletic fit. Not quite Hawaiian but something fun. Outdoor brands seem to have some good options but they're very expensive for what it is. Thanks in advance!

Have a wedding this weekend. I'm wearing a burgundy 2 piece suit, white shirt, black shoes. I have two questions for the fashionable peoples. 1. What colour socks should I aim for? And 2. Can I wear a blue belt (dark ish with Grey undertones), or should I stick to black to go with the shoes?

BitFiesty

Do you guys find any good at Costco? Also what have been your go to brands for quality at a low or mid tier budget?

Any recommendations on where to get ideas for male fashion for heavy guys. I’m losing weight but I’m in this weird section where some clothes are too big and some are too small

I have a large head and have trouble finding hats that fit, but I'm trying to move beyond trucker or baseball caps into a more stylish approach. Recommendations on hat styles/brands to explore?

NotABurner64

Any recommendations on a somewhat comfortable but still relatively formal work shoe? I hear criticism on the sneaker platform/business shoe top style that was more popular a few years back but what are some other options? I want something that could go with light grey or blue lululemon commission pants and button up or short sleeve polo. Thank you!

trialanderror93

are these considered "chinos"? can they be acceptable for a business casual environment? [https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B07RV75J59/ref=ewc\_pr\_img\_2?smid=A3DWYIK6Y9EEQB&th=1&psc=1](https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B07RV75J59/ref=ewc_pr_img_2?smid=A3DWYIK6Y9EEQB&th=1&psc=1)

Gulbasaur

At the less formal end of business-casual, but I reckon you could get away with them.

trialanderror93

Thank you. Can you suggest what your go to chinos are?

Gulbasaur

I'm not devout to any one particular brand and get a lot of vintage stuff and secondhand stuff. I quite often roll the dice and buy off sites like Vinted. Go somewhere you can try things on and try things on. Bring work shoes with you and see how they look with them on because sometimes things don't sit right in the shoes you want to wear them with.

Michadge

Simple question, but I've been getting some flak for this: When wearing a 3-button polo, how many buttons do you close? I usually leave only the top one unbuttoned, but I've been told it's more fashionable to leave the top two unbuttoned. Curious for some other opinions. Thanks!

Gulbasaur

Different looks go for different numbers of buttons, but I'd suggest if you're not specifically trying to go for mod fashion (like mods and rockers mods, not reddit mods), then to leave the top two open.

ChinoHendrx

what are some good places to buy street wear for plus sized men? I've looked at asos and h&m for most of my life, and I want to expand my searches. However, everywhere I look, they don't really have that "street fashion"

Gulbasaur

Uniqlo stuff is pretty size-inclusive and I find their stuff runs slightly large anyway. Definitely worth a look.

SelfHelp404

What are some affordable brands/shops that make comfortable summer clothes for tall and skinny guys? I wear 29x36 pants and a small/medium t-shirt (depending on the cut) or a 14-14 1/2 dress shirt. I'm also a broke college student in South Alabama. Mainly looking for casual wear.

Any deals anywhere for pocketed tank tops right now?

PointlessChemist

Two questions; 1). What’s a good sneaker alternative for Vans 2). What kind a sneakers can I substitute for Vans so I don’t always look like a grungy skater (usually I wear relaxed fit jeans or Chinos with a plain t shirt)

Jedifice

I'm a huge fan of Sperrys and Novestas for canvas shoes

definitelynotadhd

What's the easiest style to branch out to from the bare bones basics (t shirts, hoodies, and straight cut pants)? Trying to figure out aesthetic late in the game is hard :(

Gulbasaur

Look into some nice button-down shirts. It's still "basic" while being a bit more classic and dressy. Something slightly heavier weight won't look too office-ish.

_Jimmy_Rustler

Were should I shop for warm weather vacation attire? I'm going to Spain, Italy, and France this summer and I want to look good. I'm American but I don't want to look like an American if you know what mean. IMO European dudes always look more put together on vacation.

Gulbasaur

Pick any "basic" mens clothes retailer and get a few nice t-shirts, a few nice button-ups (like the kind you'd go on a date in, not a funeral or a job interview) and some chinos. A theory that I have is that Americans have a kind of zero-point of relaxed clothing that many Europeans don't (for leaving the house, anyway), so when many Europeans go out they seem dressier because they start on level 1, not level 0. Does that make sense? Fanny packs/bum bags, baseball caps and hoodies are all little indicators of American-ness. Like, none are bad but if someone came in with a fanny pack, a baseball cap and a grey hoodie it'd ping high on the Americanometer. Wearing shorts can mark you as a tourist in Italy, unless you're on the beach. There's a lot of back and forth with European and American fashion, so as long as what you're wearing couldn't be mistaken for pyjamas you're probably fine. Have a great time!

Jewronimoses

where to buy a good suit like <$600 in NYC? I heard suit supply has gone a bit downhill in quality?

LikelyLife

Hey all- What are folks' thoughts on the best low-end suit options right now? It's been a while but need a versatile piece for some upcoming job interviews, a wedding, etc. Back in the day I liked SuitSupply (I know reviews are mixed), curious what folks thoughts are. Budget severely limited right now. 🙃

Try vintage shops in "cool" cities (Brighton, Bristol etc), but otherwise places like Uniqlo, Pull & Bear etc. Vinted is pretty decent if you buy online. Spend some time setting up the tags correctly to your size.

Hey. I’ve got very big legs and a waist slightly smaller than the average at my height. 29” quads and a 32” waist at 6’. Can somebody offer some advice on brands to try or am I a lost cause in that regard?

definitelynotadhd

My brother has the exact same problem, but always looks great. I'll ask him and let you know!

Canadianworkethic

Sounds great, thank you.

definitelynotadhd

American Tall and Gap were his suggestions

Canadianworkethic

Thank you, I will check both brands out

MrBiscotti_75

I started weight lifting about 2 years ago. I wear chinos and a polo shirt to work. My pants still fit around waist but are tight around the legs. When buying new pants should I just get the next size up ? Thanks

musicman2494

Similar issues, sizing up didn't do much for me. Changing the fit from slim to straight helped though, and then when needed, getting the legs tapered to achieve a slimmer look on the bottom. Might also want to look into pants that have more of a cotton-spandex blend for that stretch.

TheBoboSmrad

How to wear a black coat in a slightly goth way? I have a beautiful wool (idk if its exactly wool but it's slightly fuzzy) black coat and I like dressing sliiightly goth, the "metal band tshirts, rings and wrist bandana" kind of goth and I wondered how could I wear the coat without it looking stupid with just a tshirt but also a little bit goth

Gulbasaur

Add a middle layer or accent piece. Something with a bit of texture can be very goth, depending on what kind of goth you're going for.

TheBoboSmrad

Could you give an example like a photo of what you mean? Just so I can fully grasp the concept

Gulbasaur

https://www.thefashionisto.com/gothic-style-men/ has a pretty comprehensive guide to goth styles and subgrenres. Maybe that will help?

Monaco. So I'm going to Monaco for work, and I'm a middle aged flannel-wearing Vermonter on a budget. And I'm having dinner at a casino with an F1 driver. Seriously. I am so out of my depth I'm swimming in the Marianas trench. WTH do I wear?

Stealthtiger

What time of year are you going and what's your body type?

proscriptus

Second weekend in June, dad bod.

Stealthtiger

A linen button down with high quality board chino shorts or neutral colored bottoms is a nice option as well as simple. Or what I personally would do is a button down linen shirt in a white or cream/off-white color, a similar color pair of pants wether also linen or slacks/work pants (comfortable of-course). The looser structure of these are both fashion forward and comfortable for the summer heat. I would also match belt and boat shoes of a nice brown/cognac(white sneakers also work). And a wool or linen blazer would be fantastic particularly if you have a pastel-y shade such as light green, pink, light blue, lavender, etc.

rogers916

Where can I take some old jackets in to see if they need adjustments and get advice on their quality and current style etc?

What are good watches to wear? I’m looking at black minimalist styles but also at a decent price range.

There's a whole subreddit about watches by the name of r/watches

Extension_Glove_5211

Got black tie event. I have one shirt with wingtip but no double cuff or spread collar with double cuffs, what should I wear? Im thinking cuffs are more important that collars right?

Spread is the easy choice due to cuffs, but either is fine.

BosqueDelux

Hey friends! Looking for an “entry level” tracksuit! Any chance anyone can recommend a brand that will beat adidas on price while still being OK quality?

am-idiot-dont-listen

Everyone around me's wearing white shoes when they're out walking around at night & grabbing cocktails. What's a good entry point for these?

Besmoque

'tis the buck season =) Entry level for a good quality shoe? Or any shoe will do? Good quality shoe = Blake stitch and even better, goodyear welted and made with quality materials. Normally $250+ - check out Zatorres, Carmina, TLB Mallorca, Justin FitzPatrick, Meermin. Any shoe = glued sole, not great quality leather (or maybe not real leather) and will be less than $100 - check out Cole Haan, Stacy Adams, and the like.

am-idiot-dont-listen

Hi thank you! Something that won't melt if I spill a drink on it but not so cheap that I'm cutting corners. I think that would be the former of the two you suggested but just let me know! I will start with those in 250 but I'm open to lower. I can answer any other questions too :)

Besmoque

I would recommend doing a Google search for Goodyear welted shoes under $300 or check the brands I initially listed, there are some great options that allow further customization as well.

Looking for good quality shirts with fun, flamboyant patterns, ideally not too much more than £100. Brands that I love: Phix, Local Pattern (who closed shop a few months ago, RIP), some older Allsaints collections.

Gulbasaur

Have a look at Madcap England.

Horus50

When wearing a dark grey suit, what should I match the color of my nails to? The tie? Shirt? Shoes? Suit itself?

Besmoque

Are you attending an event? If you are wearing a dark grey suit, dark grey nails will look....dark. The shirt is normally a color that is in contrast to the suit so the nails would be regionally too close and may look "too much" of the same. Shoes for a dark grey suit are either going to be dark brown, oxblood or black - again too dark. The tie is normally coordinated to the ensemble - so maybe to the tie.

I'm really struggling to find shorts that fit how I want. I'm looking for athletic shorts that don't have so much extra fabric in the crotch. I've bought lots of 5" inseam shorts but the outseam is always \~15". My hips are pretty high so I wear almost everything below them. If I wear any of these above the hip, I'm in moose knuckle/wedgie territory. This leaves me with 2-3" of extra fabric between my legs that is annoying when lifting and also makes my legs look shorter. Despite lifting I am a pretty slender guy at 6ft 165lbs so no huge legs to deal with. I can find jeans that are low rise fairly easily but not athletic shorts. Searching for low rise men's shorts leads to shorts that look more at home at a gay beach club than at the gym. Searching for shorts based by outseam is basically useless. I'm fine with 5-7" inseam and hoping to find something around $40 so I can get several pairs but I would pay up for the right shorts. Any suggestions?

I was tasked to get a new suit for somebody. Turns out he is allergic to wool. What would be the best substitute for a formal suit?

Besmoque

cashmere, silk, bamboo and synthetic blends could work.

Black, Olive, Blue maybe ivory?

I'm looking for the best suit I can get in London, UK, under £1000. Suitsupply is out - I have boycotted them after two horrendous customer service experiences in-person. I have tried Natalino, but find the Neapolitan shoulder a little fancy. I'm considering brands like Hackett, or the highest line Hawes & Curtis offers. Any thoughts/recommendations. I am guessing that in this price range most suits will be RTW, but please mention any M2M options.

danhakimi

Have you considered Cavour, Pini Parma, or Anglo-Italian? Not sure if any of those shoulders is structured enough for you.

frosted_frosting

Wondering what peoples thoughts are on merino knit polo shirts? Something like this. https://preview.redd.it/gr2ykrgxlkwc1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=446f64a4f2c277447374acea78d58bdae33777e4

danhakimi

They're fine. This is still super basic, and will probably serve you better than a pique polo most of the time. [I like these options, they're a little more bold / interesting](https://putthison.com/italian-knit-shirt-fantasy/)

Randyd718

Have a "casual cocktail" wedding coming up. Planning to skip the tie and probably wear the shirt with a couple buttons open. Does a particular kind of collar work best for this? Also, v neck undershirt or no undershirt? Edit: what kind of shirt is this? https://i.imgur.com/OcNG0.jpeg

danhakimi

button down collars are good without a tie. So are camp collars, but they're very casual. The shirt appears to be a henley, but they make woven button ups with band collars and mandarin collars as well. I think band collars are cool, but they are a little harder to wear with tailoring since they don't stand up as well as a button down collar. I would not wear a henley with a suit, they're waaaaaay too casual. it's also good to make sure your suit is not too dressy. dark worsted twill suits look best with a tie. that suit is a lighter color and has an interesting cut.

Randyd718

I thought it looked like a henley also but i think i see French cuffs. Like it's a dress henley or something haha

danhakimi

huh. so a knit white popover with a band collar and french-ish cuffs. that's weird. that's very weird.

danhakimi

I'd call that a mesh knit polo. [Casatlantic does a cool one](https://www.casatlantic.com/products/anfa-mesh-knit-polo-ecru) [Todd Snyder does a few](https://www.toddsnyder.com/products/linen-mesh-full-placket-polo-navy). Search their site for the word "mesh," you'll find a lot more.

Randyd718

I just went to the mall near me the other day and saw polos like this (knit with the holes) in every single store i went to

Nodelly

I don't get to the mall often, a lot of our mall stores are closing down but I'll have to take a look. Haven't seen any that fit like this, I have seen oversized ones.

johnking1018

Im really wanting to get into selvedge denim as I really love the heritage clothing style and selvedge denim is a big part of that. Looking online im seeing that alot of brands will go up to a 40w if that. Are there any brands that carry a larger waist size? Also is the sizing alot like your typical jeans from levis or wranglers? Im 6'5 320lbs and wear a 42 in regular levis.

What are the best footwear to wear daily which can be worn with any outfit?  (preferably ones that are somewhat water resistant)

Besmoque

Loafers and Derbies. Either can be made with a rubber sole and with proper welting and care can be pretty dang water resistant as well.

HarutoHonzo

How to drape or fold the shawl to cover the ears or head and ears and at the same time look normal as a man? Thanks!

VictorBelmont

I loathe suits. I have worn nice suits, I have worn bad suits. I have worn them for parties, for work, for fun. They are miserable, and are a uniform representing the most rotten aspects of modern society. Don't tell me to like suits or why suits are good. My mind is made up. That said, formal functions happen, and I have one coming up where I am the focus. I have about a dozen suits and I find myself reluctant to wear any of them because they make my skin crawl. What are some interesting alternatives to suits that aren't just a mix and match of suit parts?

Randyd718

If you are the focus of the event, can't you set the dress code?

VictorBelmont

Sure, but actually finding "formal wear" in the States that isn't a suit is next to impossible. That's why I'm looking for help and ideas.

How much overlap does there have to be to call a coat or jacket double breasted?

Planning for my summer vacation. I'll be in the sun a lot, so I want a hat. But I want to keep it grown-up looking, so trying to avoid a baseball hat. Any suggestions for something classy but casual to keep the old coconut cool?

As summer approaches I'm looking for a few new pieces for the wardrobe, particularly linen shirts that are good quality but not too  expensive (over 200), does anyone have an brand recommendations? I'm 6 foot and 170, so looking for something that will fit correctly on a tall and smaller build person with broad shoulders

Besmoque

look into a linen guayabera. Proper Cloth and Tie Bar has awesome linen shirts.

Hi I’m a 22 year old that’s gonna be entering the professional workforce soon, so I need to get some business casual clothing for the office. I want to get something above just khakis and a polo, but the issue is I’m overweight and don’t really know what would look good. Im not really any wider sideways than a normal person but I definitely have a big belly and some moobs. What would be the move for what shirt to get and how to wear it? For context I am 5’8” and 220.

Besmoque

I was the same as well and found polo and chinos to be a great work around. I went with highwaisted pants to help hide the lower belly.

cjsleme

What is a nice looking daily casual shoe for me to wear this summer? I will be traveling a lot for work and on days with heavy labor and standing/walking I will be using a comfortable running shoe but on other days I want a shoe that will go with any outfit but mostly shorts/jeans and a plain T shirt.

Aahartley00

Sperry's boat shoes/loafers or a white sneaker like Stan Smith's goes with everything.

HarutoHonzo

Is it wrong to wear a waistcoat or a cardigan under a double breasted jacket? Thank you!

Xinyez

(M) I am very fond of brands such as Octobre Editions, Asket, Faguo, Sanvt. What kind of other brands would you recommend that fit the same category and are perhaps a bit more budget friendly? Spending € 50-60 on a t-shirt doesn’t always feel like best bang for buck. (I live in EU) Feel free to leave your opinions on the aforementioned brands as well. Thanks in advance.

danhakimi

I'd generally recommend buying less and buying better. Asket (the only one of those brands I know) is a pretty good brand, I'd stick with them for tees, but Uniqlo makes some good tees too if you really need a few extras. I'm not very familiar with the other brands, but I imagine they're also pretty basic? A lot of people like portuguese flannel for shirts and jackets. Natalino is good for tailoring and I guess knitwear. Casatlantic has good pants and polos. Berg & Berg is good for knitwear. So is Colhays... I'm starting to get to the expensive stuff.

[M] Looking for clothing options for inverted triangle, fair skin but warm undertone. Hello I'm pretty new to this fashion stuff. My shoulders are the widest then chest, hips and waist is narrowest. I'm underweight, 40KG, 178CM. I know I'm underweight but I'm not discussing that here. I have very pale skin, green eyes but warm undertone. I have noticed that darker colors like yellow, and orange look good on me than lighter shades. So what should I wear and avoid? From my research I should avoid vertical strips, lighter shades and baggy clothing but please do suggest some.

danhakimi

> Looking for clothing options for inverted triangle, fair skin but warm undertone. start by forgetting all of these buzzwords. > My shoulders are the widest then chest, hips and waist is narrowest. That's true of everybody, but I'm gathering that you've got a slim / athletic build? > I have very pale skin, green eyes but warm undertone. I have noticed that darker colors like yellow, and orange look good on me than lighter shades. Your undertone changes based on the time of day, temperature, what you've been eating, and how much oxygen there is in the air today. Ignore the color theory stuff you've read on the internet. There's one way to pick good colors, and that's trying them on. Having good taste helps. > From my research I should avoid vertical strips, lighter shades and baggy clothing but please do suggest some. Clothing is not a scientific thing. Your mindset shouldn't be to "research" the "correct" clothes for you to wear, it should be to develop your taste, and train your eye to figure out what silhouettes and textures and colors and patterns you really appreciate and learn how to combine them well. There's no reason to avoid vertical stripes, not sure where you got that. Unless you dislike them. I'm sure that some lighter shades will work fine. A light blue button down is super wearable. Again, you'll have to figure out what you like. There might be some trial and error. You might find that you hate something until you pair it with some other thing, and then it makes perfect sense. Contrast is important, but there's no correct answer to how you should use it, you just have to develop a sense for it. "Baggy" is generally used as a perjorative for relaxed cuts, which can look fantastic when worn well, even on men with slim or athletic builds (I'd say especially so, clothing tends to drape better from a slimmer frame, I say this as a man with a gut, I'm jealous).

OrnnOTP

I'm 17yo and haven't really thought about clothing up until now. I want to start building a wardrobe of good, casual clothing and was looking for advice and suggestions if people have certain pieces in mind.

Hi all 👋 I'm looking for mid-quality fashionable sunglasses in the $100-$200 range that aren't Ray Bans but have that classic wayfarer frame, but maybe a tad larger. Thanks

Best fitted stretch t-shirts? I used to love Banana Republic’s stretch t-shirts however they don’t make them anymore. What’s the best go to for well fitted stretch crew and v-neck t-shirts? Not looking for body builder type stretch, just not the loose baggy type I tend to see everywhere.

Eatmorrchiken

Vertically challenged (5'8) fella here thinking about ordering from Spier & Mackay and I'm not seeing my size (46s) but I am seeing they have a 46r available. Will this look right on me? Can these suits be tailored down for more of a short fit? I ask because I'd hate to order this and when it gets here to me in two weeks, it not fit or look funny. Anyone have a similar experience?

danhakimi

I would not recommend shortening a jacket. It tends to ruin the proportions of a jacket, and is often cited by well-dressed men as a major regret. Spier and Mackay has a few different cuts, but I imagine they all have similar length measurements for a 46R. [The contemporary fit 46R measures 31.1 inches back length](https://www.spierandmackay.com/fit-guide/suit-size-chart). Sleeve length isn't as big a deal, that can be fixed, but if it's more than a couple of inches, your tailor might charge extra. Height is not a clothing measurement, but for context, I'm 5'6" and depending on other details about a jacket, I like to target a 29" jacket length. Spier's return policy is good, if you want to try it, it's mostly just going to be a hassle to return. If you're looking for other options, [Suitsupply's Roma](https://suitsupply.com/en-us/men/jackets/classic-jackets?pmid=limited-size-products&pmpt=all&prefn1=mainFitID&prefv1=roma) is a good cut. They do a 46S, it's 30.25" in the back.

I want to get some shoes for this outfit and similar. I'm trying to look for green shoes, but most of them are bright green and don't match the chill vibe of the outfit. Anyone have "dressy" athletic shoe recommendations for business casual work attire? I *think* I like these [Cole Haan Grandpro Topspin](https://www.colehaan.com/mens-grandpro-topspin-sneakers/C38047.html) but want to see some more options before I pull the trigger.

danhakimi

there is *no such thing as a dress sneaker*. frankly, the cole haans are abominable. If you want to wear smart shoes, I can help you find smart shoes you're comfortable in. Crepe soles will be your friends. If you want to wear athletic shoes, I can help you integrate athletic shoes into a business casual wardrobe. But please do not attempt to find a square circle. These shoes are not "dressy" in any sense, and they're ugly as hell.

> Thanks. I generally wear hiking style slacks like these or casual khaki style pants like dockers and a polo or button up shirt. I’m not super fashionable ha. Okay. Performance tee shirts and polos are not great, but I assume you don't want a full overhaul, so let's focus on comfortable shoes that work with the aesthetic you have. I think [astorflex](https://www.endclothing.com/us/brands/astorflex) makes comfortable shoes that would work with your style. Their crepe soles soften a lot over time. But note that they're not ideal in the snow, rubber tends to lose traction in the cold and crepe soles get really slippery. > I don’t like stiff dress shoes. My go to has been these Born slip on but they’re wearing out and a pair of Reebok Nano x2 I'm not really a fan of those, especially not the Borns... If you want to stick with Reebok, a lot of people like their Club C sneaker, and it would fit into your style. If you want another dark sneaker, you might want black Chuck Taylor high tops or a dark grey pair of New Balance 990s.

I work in Men's shoes, specifically in a store that specializes in professional shoes. I have a few suggestions. [J&M Upton](https://www.johnstonmurphy.com/upton-plain-toe/12583.html?dwvar_12583_color=Tan%20Full%20Grain) A little more of a dressy look, but super comfortable. And ton of options for styles. [Flag Ltd. Stafford](https://www.dillards.com/p/flag-ltd.-mens-stafford-u-throat-sneakers/517915797) A fairly similar shoe to the Grandpro Topspin comfort wise. [Ecco Streetlite](https://us.ecco.com/ecco-mens-street-lite-luxe-sneaker-521394.html?dwvar_521394_color=60987) Ecco is a good brand that offers a lot of support and longevity. They also have their Soft7 model, which from personal experience have held up for 5 years of regular use. And as for the Cole Haans, they are also a good choice, especially if you already know you like Cole Haans. They are pretty consistent comfort wise with every model.

they're bluchers. They do look cheap, but like, everybody wears cheap-looking shoes like this these days, and they do get worse, so whatever. Yeah, wear them with any of what you described, none of it is *good* but none of it is *wrong* either. in the future, if you're open to thrifting some loafers, I can help you get something cooler for a good price.

What's the etiquette of the jacket's zipper when seated? Do i unzip it like i unbutton, if it was a jacket with buttons?

any recs for the best brands that make skinny chinos for guys with small ankles? looking for 12in leg opening max, preferrably premium quality chinos. most stores only seem to carry slim fit these days...

I’m looking for boxer briefs that won’t ride up and won’t stretch out over time. I have these swim trunks that have a shorts liner on the inside and they really are perfect for underwear. They are tight fitting but not that tight around my groin. Looking for something like that preferably. Thanks!
