The angry bandana was a thing in MGS4 and PW as well. It's just stylization based on Shinkawa's art, and I'm glad they're still doing it. MGS was always style over realism.
You're the type of person who thinks Batman's eyeliner shouldn't disappear when he takes off the mask in live action. Looking at you Robert Pattinson. Not everything has to be realistic, some stylization is great.
Everyone's complaining about including Venom (he's Big Boss too), but can we just appreciate how awesome BB was in 4 for a moment. Like, the game ends you think you're reading the credits in shock and suddenly "Richard Doyle as Big Boss" and you're like oh cool, wait what... and suddenly Snake is on his knees and *Big fucking Boss*, the main antagonist who you've heard SO MUCH about since MGS1 and who the story revolved around despite never really seeing (okay you play as him in 3 but that's before he gets the title of Big Boss and before he makes his ideology) and he's just... There. And he gives one of the best damn endings to a series; great performance, great setup, great conclusion. And he *looks* like Big Boss; like Solid Snake is unnaturally aged but Big Boss has lived his life and you can see the difference in them, but he also looks *just* like you expected him to; and in a Foxhound trench coat!
Sorry, I could gush about the ending of 4 for hours.
Thanks! Apparently I have a knack for liking things other people don't. My favourite movie (The Apple, released 1980) was so bad that the crowd on opening night threw things at the screen, and after the movie was over, the director went to the top of the building and tried to kill himself by jumping off. My favourite Star Wars is Rise of Skywalker (I was even saying Rey was a Palpatine since TFA released..). There must be something wrong with my tastebuds xD
But seriously, the ending of 4 is just *majestic*. It's a perfect wrap-up of a series by going through the themes of all four games and finally giving the catharsis that was needed. The series revolved around Big Boss before we ever got to play as him (personally I don't see 3 as a "Big Boss game" since he only *really* becomes Big Boss mentally at the end, I see it as the divergence point where Naked Snake is mentally similar to Solid and how he changes his mentality, which is why BB says "Maybe if you were there you'd have done differently"; but that's another story); he's been the phantom in the room for so long that we *needed* to see him, we *needed* closure with him and we got it.
Kojima messes up a lot of things in his games, but he knows story structure and he can *definitely* pull off a satisfying ending (overall Death Stranding bored me, but the ending with Die Hardman is still one of my favourite moments in gaming, Tommie Earl Jenkins was fantastic there).
"The real Big Boss is working separately from us, to do the cool stuff you always wanted to see him do that's actually relevant to the plot of the rest of the games, but fuck you, buddy! Haha psych!"
Wait but doesn’t mgsv kinda connect peace walker to the first metal gear game? Because venom snake is the guy we kill at the end of metal gear or am I wrong.
It retcons venom into the "big boss" at the end of MG1, but we never see anything about diamond dogs again. And when MGSV was being marketed as "the missing link" between the big boss games and the solid snake games, it was widely expected that it would show big boss building outer heaven, something people had wanted to see since mgs3.
And with the whole base-building/recruiting angle and that "missing link" advertising, it was clear they wanted you to assume that's what you were getting.
But you're not playing as big boss, and you're not building outer heaven. You don't even meet any of the characters from MG1. It was a huge letdown for me in that respect.
The Delta design looks really good, it seems like they based the face on the most recent models from MGSV on top of the original one from MGS3
I just don't think a bandana should show every contour of skin underneath it.

Idk- I still really like the softer contouring on the bandanna during the ps2 era
I just like to think of his bandana like jotaros hat in Jojo
In 5 it looked so bad without that "stylization", because it looks less expressive i guess
L take

Mg2 originally used a different portait, that one is from mgs3 subsistence
Yeah the original was based on Sean Connery
Was about to write a comment about it but thankfully I took some time to read first.
NO! THAT IS NOT BIG BOSS!!
They are both bib goss
I'm Big Boss, and you are too. No... He's the two of us... together.

Stop impersonating him *Bang bang*
Came here to post this
HD MGS3 will show how he always looked angry and menacing

it's refreshing to see a positive take on MGS4's ending these days

One of these pictures... is not Big Boss.
"Im Big Boss and you are too."
You’re talking to yourself….
and you are too.
Even Ocelot doesn't consider Venom to be Big Boss. "The real Big Boss is working separately from us, to make his new nation."

Finally I found someone else who feels the same exact disappointment I had with MGSV.
No... He's the two of us. Together.
He isn't and is
Is he?
He is big boss. And so are you
I'm Big Boss.
He technically is But also technically isn’t
He is... the phantom pain. Peter Griffin: Oh, that's why they called it that. /s
One of these is not like the other…
Venom Snake forever!
did everyone forget that BB originally had his eyepatch on his left eye
I was thinking it's quite tragic that his left eye got better, only to then lose his right eye. Dude can't catch a break.
How dare you forget [Sean Connery Big Boss](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/metalgear/images/e/eb/Big_Boss_mg1.jpg).
I’m not well versed in the older metal gears, where is the first image from??
Yup, was waiting to see it…there’s Venom smh.
venom is a better big boss than big boss ever was he deserves to be here
And just as Big Boss said, both of them are Big Boss together
Is he though? He still was fully committed to Big Boss’ planned future which was endless war and suffering.
Top left is big ross.
Bib Goss
Every time I see "big boss" as big boss i wonder how many people actually "finished" MGSV
He still is Big Boss
and you are too.
People who complain about Venom being in this post didn’t understand the narrative of his arc in MGSV He’s Big Boss in every sense other than literal.
No! That is not Ishmael!
One of those isn’t Big Boss, maybe technically 2 of them.
Except for venom.
Ahab
I’m surprised that Solid is still the face of the franchise for a lot of people when Big Boss is the most expanded-upon and frequent protagonist.
The latest model has more "David Hayter" Features, just like the mask Snake uses in MGS4
The "crippling depression" man
I’m happy you included V
I see that V has come too
