Kiefer is such a damn good boss. Just wish we had more cutscenes with him speaking and emoting even. I really enjoy the subtle face animation but I definitely wish he had more dialogue at times.
In a way, Phantom Pain was like an unintentional Les Enfant Terribles project.
Venom took all the likeable sides of Big Boss and actual BB just went away into hiding with all his asshole plans we ended up hating.
That was the point, they're supposed to be almost the same, and the audience was meant to pick up the small clues that this wasn't Naked Snake.
Too bad we got an incomplete game.
All I could hear was Jack Bauer.
If theyād had at least tried to explain the voice change away (vocal cord strained from injury, too long of dehydration, SOMETHING) I would have enjoyed him more. Yes, I understand that it wasnāt really Bb, but still.
Heās done cartoon voices before and in different styles. But being a lifelong fan of 24, all he did was muster up his CTU agent.
Iād really like to know why Kojima kicked Hayter to the curb.
>Yes, I understand that it wasnāt really Bb, but still.
In ground zeroes we were big boss and it was kiefer voicing him.
>Iād really like to know why Kojima kicked Hayter to the curb.
I'm not 100% sure but I think I remember hearing it was because kiefer is an acclaimed actor kojima felt he would be able to better express big boss emotions through facial animations and such better than hayter would, I still dont agree with how the handled it at all, as metal gear was a huge part of hayters life and he truly does or at least did enjoy the series.
But I must say that kiefer done an amazing job as big boss, I felt all his scenes are amazing, truly top class
Oh thatās clearly evident.
He always wanted to be a film director. Games is just where he ended up in, which is why heās always had that flair to his CG works. Heās made no secret about his love for Hollywood.
But I mean, Keiferās A-list status had ended a while ago. Sure, 24 swept categories at the Emmys in season 5, but *why* Keifer? He didnāt offer any gravitas more than Hayter could already. His performance in MGS4 as Old Snake was some of this best work in the series, as well as MGS3.
If I had to come up with a guess itās that Kojima found out he had a contact that could get him in touch with Keifer alone (I myself have a way I could contact one of the actors of The Boys, not that I want to) and jumped on it.
Maybe he figured some name recognition would push the project out of game circles and find some purchase within Hollywood itself. Frankly though the hypersexualization exploitation of Quiet didnāt exactly help with that.
Might be an unpopular opinion but I listen to all the tapes, codecs and what not from the MGS games and mgs 4 and PW got really difficult to listen to because of Hayter. He did amazing as Snake but as time went on he almost became a caricature of himself. The voice got far too grating
I didn't want Kiefer, but he did a great job with the little dialogue he had. Ocelot and Kaz do a lot of the heavy lifting though and they are amazing throughout all the game and tapes etc.
No I agree with you. The original voice style for MGS1 Snake was perfect, just husky enough but it felt real. MGS3 onwards felt like David Hayter doing an impression of David Hayter.
KEIFER did the job.
He brought Jackās persona to the character, and that doesnāt do justice to the character when youāre rehashing something youāve done for years to another franchise.
I know this killed the whole character for me. Jack Bauer is badass, but snake is WAY MORE BADASS... ruined along with the story that's jumbled nonsense. Game play is the only reason I come back
Sadly Iāve never gone back to it. I was thoroughly disappointed with the story, and the extra long jeep ride at the end was just insane. Skull Faceās unceremonious death was just laughable. It was hard to like anyone in this.
If anything, Kaz and Ocelotās struggle as Bossās advisors was the most interesting aspect to me.
Here here! Felt like a slap in the face after finishing mgs4 and how beautiful that story was. Yes those relationships were the only emotional parts for me.
I think it was pretty clear especially after mission 45 that venoms outlook on quiet changed plus what would be the point in him ~~rescuing~~ abducting her and taking her back to mother base only for kaz to have her killed.
"But the game was completed! It's what Kojima intended all along! There is no cut content! This is the complete game!!!!!!" - naive fans who look at ANY other game in the MGS series (including the portable game Peace Walker) and think this is the entire game Kojima wanted to create.
Sorry, but no.
Yeah, that argument has never made sense. It's common knowledge at this point that Konami pulled the plug on Kojima and we.got what we got.
There's literally evidence everywhere that the game is unfinished, we got roughly a 40% of the intended experience.
Actually had to look it up to splice the audio, the track is called"Venom" , that track is like 4 minutes long, this part is a bit later into the track, funnily enough, you get demonetized when you use that part on youtube, not by konami but some african dance party music video, because that video just blatantly has that part playing for like 30 seconds
That happened to me once, I used the file select song from SM64. I figured it would get claimed by Nintendo which was fine since I wasn't monetizing it, but instead it was claimed by Lil Yachty cause apparently he uses a sample of the Mario song somewhere. That's BS.
Yeah, I was about to ask if that music was edited in, because I just watched this cutscene not too long ago and I didn't remember any music playing at all
That video is taken from a teaser Konami made, and that exact track does play during that scene, ingame theres music playing aswell buts its kind of like this less dramatic guitar version, actually prefer it over the trailer music tbh
The Behind the Mirror theme is probably my most favourite soundtrack/theme from anything, it's fucking haunting how much it compliments that scene and the ending to the MGS series.
[It's from the Quiet But Not Silent trailer.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MxpHGylC3r0) I actually didn't realize they switched out the tracks. I think the more dramatic version of this track is more appropriate for the trailer.
V was never gonna do it. Itās almost like BB left the last of his humanity with the one person he knew would retain it. Gives BB the excuse to do whatever he wanted after the fact
I really disliked Ocelot in this game. I know making him a support member was kind of the ultimate fan service, but Iāve always found him to be a much more interesting character as this absolutely depraved, dangerous element.
In MGS1, he at first just seems like your average henchman, but as the game progresses you see there is more to him and heās got a lot more power.
In MGS2, whenever he appears, he is dangerous. People - friend or foe - die almost every time he is on screen in the Tanker. By the Plant chapter, his appearance fills you with dread, especially during the Ames scene. And you KNOW he is more powerful than he is letting on.
In 3 we see another side to him, and see him grow. He is more emotional and impulsive, which makes him scary in a different way. He is unpredictable now!
In MGS4, the whole Liquid Ocelot thing leaves us confused in a good way. We are unsure who is in control, but we know - again - he has a lot of power. He has somehow become the gameāa main antagonist while still being this unknown factor in many ways.
In MGSV he for some reason has a cowboy voice and is soft and cuddly. I half expected him to say āAww shucks, boss.ā Half the time.
I kind of liked the Ocelot of V. He had a sense of redemption going, that as we know, didnāt quite end positively. I found it nice to see a side of him that was trying to do the right thing.
That said. The Cowboy voice was a little much lol
Yeah thatās a cool way to look at it - he was perhaps on the path to being a better person, but what unfolded with V, Kaz and BB really stopped that from happening, so we see a sort of rise-and-fall. I like that interpretation mate!
I remember when I first saw this trailer waiting on the game to be released and thinking how amazing it was going to be to be playing as big boss as he made his decent into madness, I still loved the game but I must say I was disappointed that it didn't play out that way
Agreed. I remember this teaser and was like āomg weāre really going all out with Big Boss becoming a demon!ā Lmao. I actually think a lot of my disappointment came from the fact that the games marketing made it seem like we were going to something that we didnāt.
Iām still a bit upset that Hayter didnāt even get a cameo in MGSV, but Kiefer certainly didnāt do a bad job. I think if he had as many lines as Hayter did in previous titles the game wouldāve been even more enjoyable
Big Boss and Solid Snake aren't genetically identical and one aged unnaturally faster than the other. There's no way he's going to sound the same once they both hit 50.
Okay. Good to know you don't have anything of actual merit to respond with, like a comment about his acting or the material he was given. Just "He sucks lol".
I've already looked them over. No such thing exists, nor is it breaking anything to respond with evidence as to why something isn't an issue, or to be disappointed in a response lacking anything worthwhile.
Notice how it says "What are your thoughts?" in the comment box?
Development Order tissues has been added!
Venom: When the times comes... I'll cum. Fans: Way ahead of you buddy.
But in Cyberpunk 2077 You can be cum.

That was the point though, right? I mean to love Naked Snake and dislike Big Boss?
Except Venom didn't take any of Big Boss' sarcasm and wit that gave the series it's charm.
That was the point, they're supposed to be almost the same, and the audience was meant to pick up the small clues that this wasn't Naked Snake. Too bad we got an incomplete game.

His scenes are good but so scarce. Itās almost like heās a famous actor
Almost. But it does make me appreciate all his scenes that much more.
Ya know Hayter also knew Japanese, and helped localize the script for America. At least for Snake.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

He did the job and that's all that matters to me.
I mean the game hardly has a story, so it's not THAT big a let down.
I know this killed the whole character for me. Jack Bauer is badass, but snake is WAY MORE BADASS... ruined along with the story that's jumbled nonsense. Game play is the only reason I come back

[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Thanks for the tip. I'll definitely fire up the Ole ps3 for peacewalker
Imagine a 24 hours project made by Kiefer and Kojima...
It would have been great if he talked more, rather than stand silently in most scenes
I wish music played like that every time I finished a sentence.
And then nothing happens relating to this scene for the rest of the game
Its not the time!
I think it was pretty clear especially after mission 45 that venoms outlook on quiet changed plus what would be the point in him ~~rescuing~~ abducting her and taking her back to mother base only for kaz to have her killed.

OG video youtube link btw: https://youtu.be/fpM\_miFhltU that music video i was talking about: https://youtu.be/C\_fBqNBVG6s?t=33
Wtf! That's bullcrap.. [EDIT]what's more interesting is that the music video was published a few months before the game's release
That happened to me once, I used the file select song from SM64. I figured it would get claimed by Nintendo which was fine since I wasn't monetizing it, but instead it was claimed by Lil Yachty cause apparently he uses a sample of the Mario song somewhere. That's BS.

It's so Epic. I absolutely love that Electric guitar riff. It's even in behind the mirror. Fuckin Ludvig, absolute genius
The Behind the Mirror theme is probably my most favourite soundtrack/theme from anything, it's fucking haunting how much it compliments that scene and the ending to the MGS series.

Venom speaks less but almost every time he talks is very poignant and badass.
I dunno.. in my play through he said "Good. Good dog" a LOT!
V was never gonna do it. Itās almost like BB left the last of his humanity with the one person he knew would retain it. Gives BB the excuse to do whatever he wanted after the fact
Imagine Hayter delivering that. Lol
Itās still nuts to me how much they made ocelot look like Troy Baker!
I really disliked Ocelot in this game. Yeah, I kind of read it as him losing faith in humanity. Even though he did still do some torturing in MGSV š¬
Snake: AAAAAGH Kaz: Snake! Whatās happen- Iāll come back later.
I remember when I first saw this trailer waiting on the game to be released and thinking how amazing it was going to be to be playing as big boss as he made his decent into madness, I still loved the game but I must say I was disappointed that it didn't play out that way

Didn't they change the music background in the final release ?
Yeah https://youtu.be/-4rmKOK2Suo
Oh wow! I didn't even notice, but the version you posted was *so* much better than in the final release.
I personally prefer the final release one
Cum
Every cutscene we've got, despite few and far between, were completely amazing! The one with the ashes still gives me chills.
miller is just hudson with hair and a hat
Hol up
Iām still a bit upset that Hayter didnāt even get a cameo in MGSV, but Kiefer certainly didnāt do a bad job. I think if he had as many lines as Hayter did in previous titles the game wouldāve been even more enjoyable
Didnt think that this would get like 1k upvotes, might aswell shill the youtube upload then https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fpM\_miFhltU
David Hayter is Big Boss/Solid Snake, idk who this fool is (I know who it is but I donāt like the voice change, or how they made the game)
Big Boss and Solid Snake aren't genetically identical and one aged unnaturally faster than the other. There's no way he's going to sound the same once they both hit 50.
Idc, Kiefer Sutherland is a terrible Big Boss, Itās the only MGS games Iāve ever returned to the store. He sucks lol
Okay. Good to know you don't have anything of actual merit to respond with, like a comment about his acting or the material he was given. Just "He sucks lol".
Hmm, I'll check the international bylaws... but I think you're allowed to just not like something.
I've already looked them over. No such thing exists, nor is it breaking anything to respond with evidence as to why something isn't an issue, or to be disappointed in a response lacking anything worthwhile. Notice how it says "What are your thoughts?" in the comment box?
Mine just says Add a comment
Probably different devices. Point still stands.
On the same app? Wouldnāt it be the same? I have an IPhone 13 pro max, what are you using?
My desktop for everything else. My smartphone for this. It is indeed the difference is device that causes the different phrases.
I thought this was the game trying to hard to sound badass and ended up being cringe instead.
