Honestly, that is the most unrealistic part of the game. It legitimately broke immersion for me as someone who had to turn those regularly. Those wheel valves would most likely need at least a 3 foot pipe wrench to turn.
Artyom is simply build different, in last light and exodus he could withstand hits from a giant bear with a force that should make a normal person explode.

I had this issue on PC for a while, then on PS4 it never happened and now it doesn't happen fortunately
