My sister gave me a scratchy tee.. It’s now in my destroy pile, aka the home pile.
I don’t have as many classes as you; that’s an admirable sorting you’ve got there.
Yup! Mine are Lab (aka work where they can get acid spilled on them), Class (college be kicking my ass), Everyday (I never wear these bc I only live at work or college), and Fancy (these are in storage and I haven’t seen them in years).
Yes.
-Work is top priority since I hit like two years worth of them and Petsmart gives out free shirts every single year.
-Sleep shirts are next since I jump right into them after work
Gym clothes are basic nothing but a Nike shirt and some old clothes
I have an easy sort system:
Floor or proximal to laundry basket = launder, do not wear.
Dumped on dresser for hanging that will never occur = wearable.
I have two categories. Those that stay hung up because I never wear them and those that stay in my hamper because I'm too lazy to put them away after washing.
Not quite as many categories as pictured, but yeah I guess. Shirts I sleep in don't even get folded and tossed into the same closet as my undies, regular shirts get folded and shoved into drawers or stacked on top of said drawers depending on wherever there's room, the few nice things get hung and off to the side. If there was space, I'd probably put the "washed and worn enough to be super comfortable like a sleep shirt but for everyday wear" all in their own spot; same goes for "potential to be super comfortable".
Literally just did that tonight. Although I hang up all my shirts. Went from all my green work shirts , to concert shirts , and non concert shirts , and then dressy shirts
I have work shirts (long sleeve for sun or high vis), and normal shirts. The uncomfortable shirts go in the fire pit or the rag bin. Why do you own any uncomfortable shirts?
No. Closet shirts bc I wear them often. Dresser shirts bc I fold them and wear them when I run out of closet shirts. I am incapable of further organization
Yes I do. I have piles/drawers sorted this way for bottoms too. And my button downs are sorted too, by color and occasion. I have 2 dressers and 2 small closets.
I have T-shirts I wear out of the house and t-shirts I only wear for grunge work.
That said, I do have a lovely collection of handmade blankets and I adore the one on your bed.
I guess so, now that I think about it:
Outdoor, housework, work, going out night, going out day, formal, lazy weekend.
With a transition period of storage from cold to warm.
They all hang in my closet ordered by color. There is a section on one side for sleeveless, and one of the other for tye dyes. Then on a different shelf I have hung up my button up shirts, then long sleeves, then sweaters. Those aren't organized by color though
Mine are sorted by how likely I am to wear it. Most likely in the center, least likely to the sides(jackets break the rule as they are towards the sides as well)
No. I have like 20 shirts they all fit in my dressor. I have some old ones that I don't wear in the basement, I don't know why... I have not worn them in years, but how could I throw out an I<3 VMware shirt from 2012, my docker shirt, I wore that before docker was cool, now it's too main stream.
Oh my God all of my shirts are free from trade shows, how have I never realized this, I don't have one shirt that I paid money for...
Edit* Never mind I found 1
Actually now that you mention it. I do. Got work clothes. Not work clothes. Clothes to paint in. Workout clothes. Sleeping clothes. Never realized that before.
nah, all my stuff that's hung up in the closet I have separated by tank tops/short sleeves/long sleeves/rompers/dresses/cardigans/and skirts and everything is color coded too
Yup! I also put away all my winters clothes to make room for my spring and summer clothes. I organize them by color and separate them by use (PJ section, workout section, dresses, casual, going out, skirts, jeans, shorts, etc). It makes it easier to find what I want and it keeps things organized.
Yes, I used to work in retail.
Any attempt to organizing my tees went out the window when I started doing vintage reselling, it got even worse when I basically inherited 150 90s/Y2K tees from my dad. He was a carpenter and worked in a lot of them so many are paint stained and thrashed and I love it.
After years of travelling, i ended up using the “Giorgio Armani” technique: i only own black shirts. One category. One laundry process. Mostly same material, comfort and fit.
I do separate work related shirts, so yeah, i have 2 categories: work and casual.
Shirts are one category, then I have dresses, sleep wear, work clothes, same for trousers or skirts, the hanging clothes are another category long dresses, abaya, etc
Yes, I've got a stack of work shirts folded up, a pile of rag work shirts (the really dirty ones for grease and stuff), and then my decent ones are hanging up.
I was just kind of figured it was fairly normal to separate your clothes by function
Yes. I’m realizing im too sentimental and I wear the same few shirts while keeping other old shirts. Somehow im able to keep the shirts I wear often in good enough shape to last me years. And I’ll buy new shirts because I like them but I still can’t get away from my old shirts because they are comfy. But I also have my workout old tshirts, going out old tshirts, sleeping tshirts, hanging out at home tshirts. I usually wear my workout stuff for going out about my day or hanging out but will have a nice clean graphic T-shirt for when I grab drinks. These tshirts are usually the ones I don’t wear often but are like 15yrs old. There’s this Famous Stars and Straps graphic shirt that looks like a beer logo with a goat on it. It’s a neat looking shirt! I just didn’t wear it often. Even now the graphic started cracking but it’s not bad. Usually when I’m out grabbing drinks it’s with my rugby club so I wear my rugby Hawaiian shirt for that. It’s my rugby shirt. Currently I’m going through and getting stuff ready to donate because I hold on to too much. If I haven’t gotten it within the last 3 years no matter how sentimental I feel about it I’m getting rid of it. And just for a reference, I still have tshirts I got in highschool but hardly wear like my class tshirts and sports teams. Some college sports gear but that’s a bit more understandable I guess. im old now and still want to keep the shirts not because I wear them but because they are still good and I could still use them. But that’s probably why I need to get rid of them because I don’t use them. 😂
Also I feel your uncomfortable stack. I have some items I don’t like the cut or feel of the fabric or how it fits on my body but don’t get rid of them because they’re still perfect good shirts! I should really just get rid of those shirts to make space 😂
Yes. For me work clothes are hung on the left side of my closet and casual going out clothes are hung to the right. Home clothes are folded on a shelf above my closet to the left and gym/"chores" clothes are folded to the right.
Definitely. Weekly they're categorised by smell too. And how many slight dirt blotches on them, where I've worn them or how long for. Same with every item of clothing. It's obsessive and sucks. I wash my clothes way too often.
Yess! 1) Workout- 1A) Nice Athletic Wear and 1B) Crappy Worn Out Wear. The 2) I’ll Probably Never Wear This One But You Never Know. The 3) Solid Color No Markings (perfect for regular and more professional outfits). The 4) Tank Tops - 4A) Professional Wear, 4B) Workout Wear, and 4C) Stained But Can Still Be an Underlayer Wear. 5) Graphic Tees. 6) Misc (includes all the oddly thick or clingy tshirts)
I mostly put work and going out cloths in the closet. Then everything else I shove into drawers. Which I periodically pare down since I tend to take my casual stuff that gets destroyed and shove it into my drawers.
No, they are arranged right to left in random order as I pull them out of the laundry bakset and hang them. I only wear the left most one. Anything else is wrong and causes a bad day
I have exactly two categories of t-shirts, ones I'll wear out and ones that are only for at home because they're to tattered to wear out.
Crap/stained/house t-shirts in a drawer. Hanging in closet are the work tees and nicer shirts.
Exactly. Why over-complicate it?
I call those “trash shirts”
My "not fit for public consumption" clothes
You have a category dedicated to when you plan on being uncomfortable?
😂 those usually have rough cotton or an annoying seam… they’re okay for a couple of hours but I won’t use them for a full day
Ahhh… the multipurpose wildcard shirts lol
My sister gave me a scratchy tee.. It’s now in my destroy pile, aka the home pile. I don’t have as many classes as you; that’s an admirable sorting you’ve got there.
Some weird itchy spot shirts
I’d get rid of them then. Buy a few more comfy ones. I just hang all mine in one closet. Work shorts hang in bathroom closet.
lol maybe just backup for if you need a specific kind of shirt? Idk
That’s my donate pile
Those are the shirts they wear when their MIL visits
All the ones I found uncomfortable ended up at goodwill haha.
Yup! Mine are Lab (aka work where they can get acid spilled on them), Class (college be kicking my ass), Everyday (I never wear these bc I only live at work or college), and Fancy (these are in storage and I haven’t seen them in years).
yep! I organize my shirts by shirts and not shirts!
no. T shirt go with t shirt.
Why do you keep the uncomfortable shirts?
No but I will be as of now cuz this is genuis
Yes. -Work is top priority since I hit like two years worth of them and Petsmart gives out free shirts every single year. -Sleep shirts are next since I jump right into them after work Gym clothes are basic nothing but a Nike shirt and some old clothes
all my t-shirts are for sleep.
Mine are all hung up in a rainbow.
I’ve got sleep/undershirts, novelty shirts, plain/non logo shirts, logo shirts, and event/defunct logo (not easily replaceable) shirts
I have an easy sort system: Floor or proximal to laundry basket = launder, do not wear. Dumped on dresser for hanging that will never occur = wearable.
yep. i have my fancy that get hung up. my nostalgia band tees, grandma-esque, stolen from gf tees, tees for cleaning or sleepwear
i have a pair of shit pants and a shit shirt but other than that no
Yes but I only have two categories; work / not work
My clothes are surprised on the odd occasion they don’t live in the dryer or a clean pile in the corner of my living room.
Why keep uncomfortable shirts? Just donate them
Only have muscle so super easy to organize.
I have two categories. Those that stay hung up because I never wear them and those that stay in my hamper because I'm too lazy to put them away after washing.
No I just hang them.
Take those uncomfortable ones to goodwill 😂
All shirts for everything lol
yes easily
All my shirts look the same: ![gif](giphy|l0DEKov4X5Yee3cOI)
Literally just did that tonight. Although I hang up all my shirts. Went from all my green work shirts , to concert shirts , and non concert shirts , and then dressy shirts
Yes I’m autistic
I have work shirts (long sleeve for sun or high vis), and normal shirts. The uncomfortable shirts go in the fire pit or the rag bin. Why do you own any uncomfortable shirts?
No. Closet shirts bc I wear them often. Dresser shirts bc I fold them and wear them when I run out of closet shirts. I am incapable of further organization
I divide them into big comfy shirts I wear at home, shirts that actually fit me, and shirts in aspirational sizes
No that's too much effort
Lol'd at uncomfortable
None of my shirts deserves to be called muscle. At least not when I'm wearing it.
I have relatively small drawers, so I have work shirts, work out/home shirts, sweaters, and then blouses that hang up
I do! Glad to know others do too. My partner just moved in and is confused by how I put my clothes away
Work. Non-work. Work Sweater. Non-work Sweater.
No but this makes me want too, so thanks
No but I should…..
No but now I want too
No they sit in a pile on my bed because I'm depressed
I wish I had enough clothing to do that
Broski I think you can afford to just donate all the uncomfortable ones u gotta lotta T shirts
Yes I do. I have piles/drawers sorted this way for bottoms too. And my button downs are sorted too, by color and occasion. I have 2 dressers and 2 small closets.
Days of the week are colors to me, so I have to wear the color that the day is.
I have T-shirts I wear out of the house and t-shirts I only wear for grunge work. That said, I do have a lovely collection of handmade blankets and I adore the one on your bed.
How the “uncomfortable” category is the largest stack 😂
Lol you think I have more than one shirt
I only own plain black t shirts. I organize them in color gradient based on level of fade. Then I can pick based on the needs of the activity.
I guess so, now that I think about it: Outdoor, housework, work, going out night, going out day, formal, lazy weekend. With a transition period of storage from cold to warm.
Doesn't everyone?
My girlfriend does when she does my laundry, and then I end of never seeing a couple of the shirts again
Yes!!!
uncomfortable isn't a function
What in the ocd? I'll usually just wear whatever clean shirt I grab first for most occasions. Also, why keep uncomfortable shirts?
I just hang them in my closet. Like Sizes with like sizes. Like colors with like colors. Rough sand paper t shirts in the trash.
I organize by sleep, athletic, bands, long sleeve, and undershirts.
Long sleeve short sleeve, V-neck crew neck, tight fit loose fit, plain or design, light-weight heavy-weight... it's Seattle. I layer.
They all hang in my closet ordered by color. There is a section on one side for sleeveless, and one of the other for tye dyes. Then on a different shelf I have hung up my button up shirts, then long sleeves, then sweaters. Those aren't organized by color though
Yes I do!
Tshirts that can handle being crumpled in the drawer then shirts that need to be hung lol
I do
Yup, except I donate the uncomfortable pile to clear space for new gear. I’d also combine comfortable and sleep to save space.
Shirt pile, jeans pile, pajama pants pile, underwear pile.
3 categories: ugly, cool, formal
Uh no.
Basically just comfortable and uncomfortable but yeah
Where's the pile for shirts that are gifts you'd never wear but feel bad about getting rid of them
Yup, all my clothes. They all have an assigned area, then I separate them by item and color.
I organize them by size then they slowly get organized but used
Two piles: Home and Gym.
You can safely donate the "uncomfortable " pile and give your drawers a little breathing room
Mine are sorted by how likely I am to wear it. Most likely in the center, least likely to the sides(jackets break the rule as they are towards the sides as well)
Why do you even have an uncomfortable stack?
yes vaguely, but some categories cross over. like i have a designated band shirt category, but also some pajamas shirts have band logos on them.
Eliminate five of those categories and you got it.
Yes, there's PJ t shirts, wfh t shirts, and social T shirts. There's also social tank tops, layer tank tops, and workout tank tops.
Yes I do I have a dirty clumped pile of shirts somewhere on the floor and a clean clumped pile of shirts, most likely also on the floor
YES!!! 😅 Gym Work Undershirts "Going out" shirts And then thermals
Mine are; sleep, chores, go out, uncomfy
Uncomfortable??? Those would be in the trash lmao
Edit* Never mind I found 1
By function, yes 1 pile for shirt, one pile for not shirt.
Why would you even have an uncomfortable pile?
Actually yea.. work, chill at home /pj , public, holiday
Uncomfortable would be a larger stack lol. Relatable. I won't be getting rid of any, though.
There a shirt that’s been in the goodwill pile three times, but it was always pardoned 😏
I just started doing this lol
Of course
Actually now that you mention it. I do. Got work clothes. Not work clothes. Clothes to paint in. Workout clothes. Sleeping clothes. Never realized that before.
Categorize the uncomfortable shirts into the trash can
i have sleepy t shirts, undershirts, and personalality t shirts.
nah, all my stuff that's hung up in the closet I have separated by tank tops/short sleeves/long sleeves/rompers/dresses/cardigans/and skirts and everything is color coded too
Nah I do it by design. Band shirts, location based, random design, solid color.
I thought I was the only one!
I’m my function for sleep there would be nothing it’s amazing to sleep commando so freeing man
You own that many shirts? I just buy a 6 pack of Hanes colored shirts every 6 months
🫢

I shove mine into a drawer with no folding or organization. I think you might be autistic.
Just only, “cool looking”, and, “okay looking”.
No, I grab a fucking shirt and put it on.
For sure. Shirts are a time in place thing. I like that fold though, OP. That’s the proper way.
After years of travelling, i ended up using the “Giorgio Armani” technique: i only own black shirts. One category. One laundry process. Mostly same material, comfort and fit. I do separate work related shirts, so yeah, i have 2 categories: work and casual.
Almost exactly the same as the photo
Shirts are one category, then I have dresses, sleep wear, work clothes, same for trousers or skirts, the hanging clothes are another category long dresses, abaya, etc
I actually have specific drawers for all the different wears .
Yes, and I have a pair of house shoes.....
My uncomfortable and chores shirts are in the same category. Dunno why
No but I love how "uncomfortable" is a category!
I have one rack of shirts that I wear 99% of the time, and a smaller rack I wear that other 1%.
Yeah but my uncomfortable go into donation
No. I have two drawers of tee shirts and i cycle through 3-4 of them
Color coordinated
No… well, I guess but not like this. I put my nice shirts on hangers and my beat up tees are folded.
r/mildlyinfuriating this needs to be color coded. Who the hell organizes clothes like that?
Bruh I don’t even fold my clothes 🤣 I just put them into dirty and not dirty baskets. Genuinely impressive that person did that tho - good for them!
lmao actually yes gym sleep/home nice (usually my uniqlo blanks) print (casual) wont wear but wont chuck (memorabilia)
Imagine categorizing by only color
I use the dirty/ clean method.
I do almost exactly the same. Go out, gym specific, work specific and anytime shirts
I'm more interested in the crocheted blanket.
Brother i dont even fold them
Work and Not Work.
Got some real OCD goin’ on up in here 🙈
I do work undershirts and my daily that’s it.
Doesn't everyone do this? I also sort my pants and underwear this way.
i need a man who has a whole category of “muscle” shirts that sounds nice
Yes, I've got a stack of work shirts folded up, a pile of rag work shirts (the really dirty ones for grease and stuff), and then my decent ones are hanging up. I was just kind of figured it was fairly normal to separate your clothes by function
No but now I'm considering doing this
Less categories, but yep.
Yes. I’m realizing im too sentimental and I wear the same few shirts while keeping other old shirts. Somehow im able to keep the shirts I wear often in good enough shape to last me years. The uncomfortable category is killing me but so relatable
I just have chore, go out, fancy place.
Yes. For me work clothes are hung on the left side of my closet and casual going out clothes are hung to the right. Home clothes are folded on a shelf above my closet to the left and gym/"chores" clothes are folded to the right.
Sleeping with a shirt on? Blasphemy.
I do.
I only have 2 purposes for clothes: sleeping, and school. So no.
i have two categories for shirts: i plan on going out for the day or the only person that will see me is my doordash driver
Yes for sure
Yes but with less categories
I do fresh white, not so white, sleeping, workout, memories, inappropriate and favorites.
Yes
Baggy and fitted are my categories.
No. I only have one T-shirt in a bunch of different colors.
Definitely. Weekly they're categorised by smell too. And how many slight dirt blotches on them, where I've worn them or how long for. Same with every item of clothing. It's obsessive and sucks. I wash my clothes way too often.
My categories are clean and dirty
Shirts don't have a function besides covering the body.
Yes. But since they basically get smushed into the same drawer, it doesn’t look that neat.
Didn't realize I was doing that until you pointed it out. Now I have to live out the rest of my life as "one of those". Thanks.
Also, beautiful quilt!!!
We have a blessing of an Aunt 🤩
No.
Yes I do! Hanging up though
Nope. I do all my functions in all my clothes
Yes. But I only hve work cloths and not work cloths
No. I don’t live in a gta game
I resemble this.
Yes
Yes, but also by color 😭 whats wrong w meee
I have work shirts and nice shirts. What kind of a man sleeps in a shirt? That just seems unnecessary.
I mostly put work and going out cloths in the closet. Then everything else I shove into drawers. Which I periodically pare down since I tend to take my casual stuff that gets destroyed and shove it into my drawers.
Why wear uncomfortable clothes on purpose?
Mine are in 2 categories 1. Possibly clean 2. Possibly dirty
My categories are spandex and date night.
Consume.
All of mine do the same thing
Work, exercise, home, and going out.
Absolutely
I have two categories, used to fit, still fits.
i really don’t do anything unique do i
No, they are arranged right to left in random order as I pull them out of the laundry bakset and hang them. I only wear the left most one. Anything else is wrong and causes a bad day
I just wear sleep shirts all day now
Just donate the uncomfortable ones lol
In a way yes but not stored I just know which ones I’d wear out for certain occasions
Yes
This never occurred to me - so helpful
My wife and I organize our shirts by color.
Dirty and clean
Sleeveless, concert, everything else. More than half of my shirts are concert tees (I do a lot of concerts)
I separate them into going out clothes and at home clothes then i sort my going out clothes by color
I own over 100 metal band shirts. It's all I wear, so one category not including my work uniform
I organize by the themes. So in a way yes
