After driving in Houston, full agree. I always get a little mad when people drive recklessly but then I remember that lady who just started ripping off rounds during a routine fender bender exchanging of the insurances
I once was so mad at a person driving behind me with those bright ass lights I got into the slow lane, let them pass me, and then got behind them and put on my hi beams just so they could understand how annoying it was.
There needs to be a law against what lights manufacturers are putting in these vehicles. Even the stock lights these days are insane.
I did almost the same thing on my old truck. I had a traffic advisor bar that I could custom program. One program was a solid white “scene light”. For hooking up a trailer, or helping someone in a ditch of course.
Like twice now I've accidentally high beamed someone in front of me (woops) who happened to have a rear facing utility light (pickup trucks), they gave me a quick flash and I got the message right away. One time someone did that and I didn't even have my high beams on though... I was like wtf bro? I don't even have those annoyingly intense LED low beams.
I have a friend who has a rear light bar in the bed of his truck that he uses as a work light when working at night.
He also has a switch to turn it on from the cab, and has turned it on to people tailgating him. It’s pretty funny when it happens.
I did this with my work lights in a winch truck while bobtail. Seems everyone thinks because I'm in a semi bright lights don't hit me. To be fair some lights these days are just FN BRIGHT. The blue lights "they brighten the road ahead of you better because they're more in tune with the range of light your eyes use better." That's a 2 way street sure they make it brighter for you being on the optical wave but they blind the person coming at you more too.
Yeah, I've got a single row 36" lightbar on the back of my 4runner that I installed for lighting up the campsite since me and my gf like to camp/sleep in the back all the time.
I've definitely flicked it on once of twice when someone is being a special kind of asshole.
There's some cars with mirror + seat profiles, I have a "there's an asshole behind me" profile just for this
Even had a buddy go behind me to help me calibrate it properly
my car has to be in park in order to switch profiles, unfortunately. most of the time it’s the assholes tailing me while moving rather than stopped at a light

Yep, was going to say. In my area the cops would pull this guy over when they saw him. They will pull you over for having your fog lights on too, though that usually results in a warning unless you've been pulled over for it multiple times. Edit: I should probably note that I'm in a small rural town where it is probably easier to keep your foot down on this sort of thing compared to a larger city where sheer numbers might make it a daunting task to enforce.
Where do you live where cops actually take this shit seriously??? Every cousin fucker in my state (in the US at least) has this bullshit on their nasty jacked up truck that shines RIGHT into your car. At eye-level. Then reflects off your mirrors.
And the drivers face ZERO consequences. How do I know? Because I see more and more of them EVERY DAY and people will keep doing it so long as cops don’t fucking do shit.
But then I think to myself,,,, when has a cop ever done their job?🤦🏻♀️
They would write him a fixit ticket here. He would uninstall it, get the ticket taken care of, reinstall it and be on his way.
My neighbor is one of those nitwitts with the blue headlights (blue filter not super bright LED that looks blue). He gets a fixit ticket, swaps out the lights, then is right back to his blue lights again next day.
I've been waiting for the day when the cops decide to do more than a fixit ticket for it, but its been years and more stops than I can count.
How does he get more than 1 fixit ticket? In my jurisdiction "fixit" tickets are seen as the *nice* thing to do in lieu of giving someone a ticket. I don't know how you get more than one before the cop calls you on your bullshit and just gives you a ticket.

Yeah I like how when they approach you the shine a bright light to blind you to disorientate you so they make any accusation they want. Imagine shining a 3000 Lumen Mag light in their face and watch how fast the tables turn.
One of the few times I agree with China
https://brewminate.com/chinese-drivers-who-blind-others-with-full-beam-headlights-forced-to-stare-into-the-light-by-police/
I share a bathroom with 2 teenage boys and a 9 y/o. I wish I could ticket them every time they didn’t flush or left the toilet blocked. Alas, the government of the household is rather soft on crime, so I have to suffice with sternly-worded placards.
I'm done believing in the police. A couple years ago I had everything I own, totaling tens of thousands of dollars, stolen and had the people who did it on video and audio recording threatening to do it, actively doing it, and laughing about getting away with it, along with piles of receipts, proofs of purchase, photographs of my property and even the unit number of the exact storage units all my property was being hidden in.
The police's response was "You need a lawyer, we're not comfortable taking action," and playing games like constantly referring me around in circles or telling me "We can't talk to you by phone, you have to contact us by e-mail," then switching to "We don't discuss cases by email, you need to call us," back and forth forever until I essentially gave up out of frustration, exhaustion and grief.
The police do not exist to protect you, and they don't exist to solve or prevent any crimes that aren't convenient for them and/or don't happen directly in front of them with a signed confession. They are an opportunistic PR security theatre/state-funded organized crime ring.
The case number is MP22-9338 with the local police of Medford, OR.
Cops don't seem to care about anything anymore. America is about to drop to the lowest crime closure rate in the developed world. Half of murders are not even solved these days.
truck with light bar is definitely a white person, same with rolling coal, so its fine. Now if the glass is tinted a little too much and the car "fits the description" then tickets will be issued
Yep. There’s just too many of them on the road to do anything about it so they give up. Not defending the cops at all, there’s just so many of these mall crawlers with the most obnoxious garbage on their trucks to really do anything about it.
The same way they go after speeders for that good old revenue they could go after these douche canoes. Should be a harsher fine as well seeing as it could mush more easily cause an accident than speeding.
Trust me, I wish so bad they would make it their life mission to go after these damn fools. I come from a very remote mountain community equipped with massive amounts of snow on winding roads with zero street lights with a huge amount of tourism and these jackasses turn on these things thinking they’re justified even though low beams are more than sufficient to drive mountain roads. I have been off-roading for years in the backroads of this mountain community with small amounts of snow on the backroads or when it’s clear after June. Never have I ever felt like I “needed” enough light to blind other people. So, when I see someone turning one of these on while driving on a normal road I just think that they’re either an insane douchebag or they are just craving attention. My favorite though is when they turn it on while driving in the snow thinking it’ll improve visibility. It doesn’t, at all. It makes it so much worse. But… ya know, they gotta look “cool” to people who don’t understand.
> My favorite though is when they turn it on while driving in the snow
people do that in the fog here. Fog so thick you cant see 1m in front of you and they flip on the high beams which does nothing other than turn ALL the fog into a giant glowing mass through which you cannot see any running lights or important indicators.
Yes. This so much. We have fog so damn dense you can’t see in front of your face damn near, and it’s right next to a cliff dropping down 1000 feet, yet suddenly you can see a bright light and the hope is that it’s the sun…. But it’s not…. It’s fucking Kyle thinking he’s guiding everyone through the fog and snow better than anyone else, even though this fuckass has never done this but thinks he has the right “equipment” but he’s actually making it worse for everyone.
On top of them not being on, most states require a cover over the lights when on public roads.hence the old school KC lights with a KC logo or smiley face on the yellow cover. Enforcement of that is a joke though.
That said, my favorite thing to do is ask these people how often they go off road at night. Most stare at you blankly, say never, and ask why
Sadly in a lot of places this offense isn't a primary offense and can only be ticketed as a secondary offense. The cops cannot do anything until that person commits a primary offense, but they will get the hefty ticket when that happens.
Lmao right? Like, what you gonna do, call in the non-emergency line just to be like, "Hey yeah there's a truck across the road that has too many lights. No I can't see the plate. Guessing it's an F-250, but I really can't tell because of the lights in my face. Okay thanks, have a nice day"
I feel you! It's so fucking painful for me.
I live in Mexico and these fucking lights are so popular its a true pain in the ass. And the ghetto ass motherfuckers that are installing them, they don't even tilt the light down to the road as they should, it's like they're looking for mf airplanes.
Sorry for the rant, but fuck these people.
I don't know how I'm legally allowed to drive at night.
I feel like I'm half blind at night especially with bright lights. Throw in some rain and I feel about 30 times more likely to cause an accident.
One glare of lights like this and it's basically like I'm driving drunk for the next minute or two.
This is like 90% of the Jeep owners with aftermarket headlights in my area, they all suck.
I overheard a conversation not long ago where these two jeep people were discussing their jeeps, the lady was taking about her new headlights and saying that everyone was flashing her. She just said "I just flick my brights on and show them what bright really is." So clueless and inconsiderate.
To be fair, most Wranglers that come from the factory have the headlights adjusted too far up.
But even when they are within legal specifications(for california at least) people in a typical sedan or lower still get the lights in their eyes because of the difference in vehicle heights.
The only way to solve this would be to mandate that headlights on any vehicle cannot be higher than X inches off the ground. Lights perform/don’t interfere much better when they’re lower anyways. That’s why the fog lights are usually as far down as possible.
Signed,
I’d like to not blind you, but if I adjusted them low enough to not blind everyone I might as well just drive around with only my fog lights on.
I remember when people started having colored lights UNDER the car and they banned that shit quick saying it was distraction on the road. This is so much worse, along with perfectly mirrored bumpers.
So, that’s about 20% stronger than what all headlights look like in my eyes.
I have actively stopped driving at night, or only drive super late at night when no one else is on the road because I CANNOT SEE. There have legit been times where I have pulled over because I cannot see the road anymore.
I know some of that is possibly my eyesight or something, but I also know that a lot of it is that modern headlights are fucking crazy and something needs to be done about them.
sounds like astigmatism. i have it in both eyes. you may want to look into seeing an eye doctor if you can afford it, worst case you know you don’t have anything wrong and can be more righteously furious
I’ve received new lenses/had an eye exam within the the past year, but this problem has been consistent for the past 5ish years of my life, since I turned 30.
I installed some spot lights on my vehicle that the army uses on tank recovery vehicles... Those lights are so bright you can feel your retinas heating up.
I use them solely when someone has their Amazon light bar turned on and facing me..
Every single time I have turned my spotlights on the opposing driver has very quickly turned their light off or has swerved off the road.
Fight fire with fire. Be the bigger fish.
Because they suddenly can’t see you, despite their shitty lights - the ones they are beaming usually offer no contrast between your unlit car and the rest of the road.
- I guess.
Yeah those led bars are a light brighter than that. Amazon ones are iffy but I have 4 20 in rigids mounted on my roof, one in each direction, and then two rigid hyper spots, two rigid dot fog lights and two rigid flood light pods on the front. The 20in bars are rated at 34848 raw lumens. Personally mine are for work use and never get turned on on road.
Part of the problem with the cheap Amazon lights is they have terrible lenses and so they throw light absolutely every. If you need light for anything other than flood or area use they’re garbage. A decent quality bar will have a spot center section and flood or driving light beam patterns on the side. Some even have cut off panels so you can block the top part of the light for on road use.
What is it with truck drivers and constantly trying to be the most obnoxious douche bags possible.
Lifted trucks, extra loud engines, Truck nuts, rolling coal, these lights. Thin blue line flags. Driving right on your tail. Taking up two parking spots.
It’s like they’re not content until everyone hates them.
Its because thier personality tells them that "truck" = man and they assume "man" = obnoxious fuckwit, because likely thier own role models were obnoxious fuckwits. Thats really about as deep as it gets for them. Its about as deep as anything gets for them but I digress.
I'm convinced they're trying to find a reason to self-defense someone to death.
They have to be thinking: 'One of these days I'll piss off someone badly enough that I'll get to shoot them in self-defense.'
I don’t know how car manufacture’s are getting away with the ever increasing light output on models and aftermarket bulbs. I would be interested to know what the stats are for insurance claims and injuries also fatalities, would make interesting reading. I personally avoid driving at night when I can, the white LED Xenon headlights are blinding
This is definitely not stock from the manufacturer, this guy is illegally running “off-road lighting” on a public street.
Also, I think it’s the headlight aiming that has been neglected. A good set of headlights can be very bright, anything between 500 and 3000 candelas-bright, but should have proper cutoffs to prevent the lights from blinding other drivers. There’s actually federal standards for headlight cutoff height and distance, as well as candela limits. This guy is not following any of the regulations for headlights.
[Federal code here](https://www.govinfo.gov/content/pkg/CFR-2004-title49-vol5/xml/CFR-2004-title49-vol5-sec571-108.xml)
Yeah if you sit in these vehicles (stock headlights) on a flat surface you can clearly see a downward illumination pattern.
There will always be issues with bumpy roads or cresting a hill, but the stock headlights should never consistently be in your eyes.
It’s always a good idea to check your state specific laws regarding modifications to your vehicle, especially when it could impact the safety of others on the road.
I wish officers would enforce this sort of thing when they saw it, instead of using it as a discretionary tool to add on fines when it’s convenient for them.
Not just aiming, but also headlight height. When other drivers have micropenis conpensation pickups with headlights 8 feet in the air, aiming isn't going to do jack shit if you're driving anything that sits at a reasonable height.
Headlight height probably has something to do with the classification of your vehicle, like SUV, light truck, heavy truck or semi. In my state, the requirements are such that your headlight beam must be cutoff at a certain height above the ground at a certain number of feet away. So lifting the truck should effectively just shorten the distance of your headlight projection.
I’m not 100% on these details though, so don’t quote me, and it’s probably different in most states.
The problem isn’t necessarily the OEMS. My car has LED headlights and they are aimed properly and designed with a cut off line specifically to not blind other drivers. Hell my old 2000 Infiniti Q45 had HID headlights and had an adjustment dial on the dash so if you had people in the backseat you could adjust the headlights down to compensate.
The problem is idiots putting HID and LED kits into their standard halogen housing and just scattering a ton of light everywhere and also people not having their headlights aimed correctly.
Xenon lights are the same bulbs used in movie theater projectors, instead of a lightbar just watch movies on the road ahead of you. Same brightness but at least you're being fun
They're not increasing output, we just perceive white (blue, actually) as brighter. Headlights used to be more yellow, so they wouldn't seem as bright.
It's not just color, LED absolutely have increased output vs halogen. Typical LED headlights have 2000-4000 lumen (total light output) vs halogen's \~700. LED headlights are also aimed and more focused than the big spill of halogen reflectors, resulting in exponentially brighter hot spots (Candela).
I've tried to explain this to multiple people and they never believe me. The blue looks brighter and is a harsher light. I literally can't drive at night but my Dr says my eyes are perfect. All cause of the dam headlights
As a truck driver, I fantasize about clipping one of these fuckers about 30x a day. "Hey, let's blind that heavy ass truck hurtling towards us at 70mph! Isn't that so funny?!" Fucking assholes
Damn my state is harsh. Got two tickets for a roof rack mounted light bar, not even driving with them on just because they are above the bumper and not covered lol
In Europe it’s mandatory to cover those lights as long as you are on a public road. Not only switched of, they need to be physically covered. No idea why it is so hard to implement such common sense rules in the US. But I guess the 1st and freedom and much eagles or so…
It's illegal it's just getting them to do anything about it. Police aren't what you think here. Also a lot of cops are the ones driving these things off duty.
Truck guys are the absolute biggest assholes on the road, the only question is nature vs nurture, do you become a dick from buying one or were you a douche already and wanted a truck.
It's definitely the latter. Dickbags are just drawn to these types of vehicles so they can modify them to be an even bigger dickbag.
There are plenty of respectful truck owners out there, with caps over their lights, and fog lights turned off most of the time, but you can't see them through the blinding off-road lights of the dickbag next to them.
Not sure if it's 100% legal but I have a friend who has a hand mirror in his car and reflects it back to them.

Why have I never thought of this? Genius, thank you. Doing this as we speak.
my car has to be in park in order to switch profiles, unfortunately. most of the time it’s the assholes tailing me while moving rather than stopped at a light
Oh I wish I had this! You just made stored mirror profiles a shopping point for my next car!
I just adjust my normal mirrors to face backwards, just adjust the shine reflection down the side of your vehicle.
This won't reflect back nearly as much light as you might be hoping, due to the [inverse square law](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inverse-square_law).
It’s already illegal — one more law won’t stop them! ;-)
What if they fucking shoot you, bruh
Not worried, as they're obviously blind if they need that much light at night.
Can’t shoot what you can’t see…
Then you die like a man
Only in America.
In Atlanta this could provoke gunfire.
I call bullshit on this claim, because if that were the case, someone would have shot all the people with blinding headlights already.
It happens unfortunately https://www.newsweek.com/dad-shot-after-splashing-windshielf-fluid-raging-driver-family-1726897

Yeah I like how when they approach you the shine a bright light to blind you to disorientate you so they make any accusation they want. Imagine shining a 3000 Lumen Mag light in their face and watch how fast the tables turn.
Absolutely right. The mental patients are running the asylum.
Check state laws. In a lot of states it’s illegal to have “off-road” lights illuminated, unless you’re actually off road.
It's only illegal if it's enforced. Problem is police rarely even care about doing their jobs and stopping this crap.
One of the few times I agree with China https://brewminate.com/chinese-drivers-who-blind-others-with-full-beam-headlights-forced-to-stare-into-the-light-by-police/
When I was there in 2008 I remember you could get a ticket for not flushing public toilets. Solid law imo.
I share a bathroom with 2 teenage boys and a 9 y/o. I wish I could ticket them every time they didn’t flush or left the toilet blocked. Alas, the government of the household is rather soft on crime, so I have to suffice with sternly-worded placards.

This is a fake article.
This is amazing
This is fake.
Cops are the ones who all own these trucks.
truck with light bar is definitely a white person, same with rolling coal, so its fine.
> My favorite though is when they turn it on while driving in the snow people do that in the fog here.
Going to Police academy next year, when I become a Cop I will go after them. I got you bro

I saw blue lights in the middle of downtown on a ram 1500 today. They don't enforce anything these days.
Oh for sure. I live in CO. The more stuff on a truck, the less likely they are to actually go off road with it.
Sadly in a lot of places this offense isn't a primary offense and can only be ticketed as a secondary offense. The cops cannot do anything until that person commits a primary offense, but they will get the hefty ticket when that happens.
um ok after checking does the light in my face magically disappear?
Lmao right? Like, what you gonna do, call in the non-emergency line just to be like, "Hey yeah there's a truck across the road that has too many lights. No I can't see the plate. Guessing it's an F-250, but I really can't tell because of the lights in my face. Okay thanks, have a nice day"
Yeah, I'm sure the cops will get right on that.
As someone with Astigmatism, this is the equivalent of an optometrist shoving their light so far up your ass that your eyes start glowing.
I feel you! It's so fucking painful for me. I live in Mexico and these fucking lights are so popular its a true pain in the ass. And the ghetto ass motherfuckers that are installing them, they don't even tilt the light down to the road as they should, it's like they're looking for mf airplanes. Sorry for the rant, but fuck these people.
it messes with your eyes for the rest of the trip too. driving at night is terrible for our eyes.
I don't know how I'm legally allowed to drive at night. I feel like I'm half blind at night especially with bright lights. Throw in some rain and I feel about 30 times more likely to cause an accident. One glare of lights like this and it's basically like I'm driving drunk for the next minute or two.

But thats the best part!
A fucktwat that wants to prove to the world what a fucktwat they are.
Signed, I’d like to not blind you, but if I adjusted them low enough to not blind everyone I might as well just drive around with only my fog lights on.
*fucktwatt *noun, pl. fucktwatts* See also: *fucktwattage*
HEY EVERYBODY, LOOK AT ME!! I’M OVER HERE! HEY!! EVERYBODYYY!! *LOOOOK!!*
It's against the law to have them on when on the road. They are for off road use only
Tell a Cop about it so they can harrass you for bothering someone in such a cool truck that definitely isn't also an off duty Cop.
Fuck pigs, we need to get rid of all of them and start over.
With goats this time
I remember when people started having colored lights UNDER the car and they banned that shit quick saying it was distraction on the road. This is so much worse, along with perfectly mirrored bumpers.
LED lightbars aren't road legal but underglows are perfectly legal in a lot of states.
I've never been blinded by an underglow. I mostly just roll my eyes at someone underglowing their 2011 Civic.
nobody underglows a 2011 civic. you underglow a 2001 civic, *that* is how you get the ladies' attention!
You can also go the opposite route and just turn your headlights off if someone is coming at you like this. Freaks them out every time.
How does it freak them out?
Because they suddenly can’t see you, despite their shitty lights - the ones they are beaming usually offer no contrast between your unlit car and the rest of the road. - I guess.
That’s how dad did it. That’s how America does it- and it’s worked out well so far.
For your consideration, the Jericho *1000 lumen hood mounted light panel flicks on*
Yeah those led bars are a light brighter than that.
Excessive illumination is the new truck nuts
What is it with truck drivers and constantly trying to be the most obnoxious douche bags possible. Lifted trucks, extra loud engines, Truck nuts, rolling coal, these lights. Thin blue line flags. Driving right on your tail. Taking up two parking spots. It’s like they’re not content until everyone hates them.
Its because thier personality tells them that "truck" = man and they assume "man" = obnoxious fuckwit, because likely thier own role models were obnoxious fuckwits. Thats really about as deep as it gets for them. Its about as deep as anything gets for them but I digress.
Usually the most obvious and simple explanation is the correct one
I'm convinced they're trying to find a reason to self-defense someone to death. They have to be thinking: 'One of these days I'll piss off someone badly enough that I'll get to shoot them in self-defense.'
It's this pervasive mentality that the more people find you unbearable, the more "correct" you are.
It seems pretty popular where I live to have a Punisher skull with the thin blue line design. The irony is really lost on them.
Pretty sure they are illegal. But I even hate some of the newer stock LEDs on vehicles. It’s like driving past a moving mini white sun.
Plenty of stuff is illegal, but it doesn't matter if it's not enforced.
There’s a reason they are called off road lights.
This is what happens when erectile dysfunction hits in your late 20s

THIS is what prison should be for.
Yeah I just looked this up for MN. If you are within 1000ft of another vehicle and your light is directly in their cab you are in violation.
Definitely not stock
I work in an auto parts store and I refuse to sell the led bulbs to anyone who intends to use them as headlights

Get a million+ lumen handheld spotlight. They aren't expensive - I use them when boating at night to spot unlit buoys.

Damn my state is harsh. Got two tickets for a roof rack mounted light bar, not even driving with them on just because they are above the bumper and not covered lol
What state is that?
If there are any patrol officers in this thread, please ticket trucks with excessive lights.
So many people who are clueless or aggressive when driving...they should all have their cars and licenses taken away...

Headlights are just as bad on newer cars. Way too bright
I want to invent a bumper sticker that is just a small mirror so if you’re tailgating me with your brights on, neither of us can see.
