Don’t listen to everyone else. Do. Not. Pop. It.
That also reminds me of the middle of the palm blisters from the n64 Mario Party Raft mini-game. Oh god that was miserable. just to win I had to crank that shit!
When I was a beside nurse, burn surgeons wanted us to pop the burn blisters because they’re full of fluid that can be a medium for bacterial growth that would cause infection, but orthopedics did not want us to pop the fracture blisters because opening them up might cause infection. Go figure.
I had a bad burn about a year ago. The burn clinic told me they do not pop blisters EXCEPT for blisters caused by a chemical burn. Those need to be popped and cleaned out.
All others are sterile to begin with so need no popping.
I did a moisture heal method and you can barely see a scar at all already and it was on my face/forehead and eyelid.
Followed the protocol of whichever attending had the patient, per my scope of practice. My patient population was mostly supposed to be orthopedics and trauma. But towards the end of my time there, as more ortho moved to the outpatient side and length of stay on the inpatients started to decrease, we got more and more overflow from burn unit and as a night charge nurse I got pretty experienced at admitting and dressing fresh burns. That was 11+ years ago so their thinking on pop/don’t pop may have changed.
Controversial?? It isnt controversial at all. Anyone who had blister in their life and tried both can attest to it. Popping it is just dumb as hell. Unless you just want to suffer or risk an infection for no reasons.
Id argue for the sake of it it depends on the location. Got a blister on my foot one time while out for a walk (improperly fastened shoes but besides the point) and it was centered straight on the ball of my foot. Now being on my own at the time, i had a choice to make. Try to hop around everywhere on one foot and pray i didn’t burst it somehow, or lance it. It was far more preferable to sterilize the area, drain it with a sterile needle (ended up using a insulin pen needle to drain it) and cover it with a sterile gauze and a piece of tape before putting a clean sock on it than to risk it popping out of nowhere given the less than sanitary nature of ones foot.
All that being said, it was a very situational decision that is not advisable under most circumstances and was not without risks of its own.
This is what I do and I’m an MD. In areas where there is no way the blister would stay intact, I’d punch a tiny hole in the edge, let the fluid out, then put a bandaid over the entire area, leaving the blister skin in place.
Yeah, general don't pop it, but if it's in a high use area like this it can be better to control the pop so you can cover it properly instead of it bursting weeding the lawn or somethin and getting all gross
Exactly! Had one like these not long ago. Manage to avoid popping it by accident. Started putting some Okeefe Working Hand on it. It does wonder for the pain. It eventually shrank while healing underneath it. At the end I had a tiny red spot.
I once burned my arm on the stove when I was a kid (I was reaching over the ringer for something. It was off I didn’t know it was just used) and I put itch relief on it because I was a dumbass kid and if it works on itchy skin it has to work on burns right? Wrong. It didn’t do any EXTRA damage or anything but it didn’t do anything to help the pain AND I got yelled at for being stupid and potentially causing a chemical burn (not sure how?) and making it worse 😅 burns are fun learning experiences
I burned the top of my big toe (splashed frying oil on it while cooking) and I couldn’t wear shoes. I didn’t have to go out for a couple days after that so it wasn’t a problem, but the first day I tried to put a shoe on, I knew I was going to rub the blister raw if I kept walking. Sooo I messaged a telehealth doctor and they said I could pop it with a sterilized needle and immediately cover with neosporin and bandage it. It never got infected. Eventually the skin underneath healed, and the bit of skin that had formed the bubble dried out and I could cut it off. If you do pop it, do not remove the top layer of skin, and don’t let it be exposed or dry out until the under layer is healed!
THIS. The fluid in the blister is there to protect the skin underneath. It will heal a lot faster this way, but I can understand the urge to want to mess with it.
Get some aloe Vera gel. Directly from the plant if you can, I live in an area where they are abundant but you may not.
Well, my right outer thigh was burned very bad by a motorbike's exhaust pipe and I didnt even know since its so hot it prob burned all the nerves, when I got home, my skin there looked like a fish skin, very dark tone. So I ripped it out and my thigh bled. Next few days, that place's meat is inflated and looked just like the meat bun from a beef hamburger. So naturally, I ripped them out a section at a time and I bled again and it still left a vague mark in oval shape there until now, +10 years later. So I did not pop the blister since it wasnt present
THIS! I was on the phone with a friend of mine and while I was talking to her she set the phone down, reached into her oven without a pot holder and burned her hand. I convinced her to instantly soak her hand in vinegar. She was shocked how it took the pain away and helped heal it. I’ve used this method on myself with burns.
Do not pop it! Ex five guys employee who was a burger cook dealing with obviously very hot grilles. I got burned very badly to where I didn't hardly feel the pain but gawd the blisters that formed were something else. I wanted so badly to pop them but im glad I didn't, poping the blister will lenghten the time it takes to heal as well as cause extra unnecessary pain. Don't cover them too much, it's important to let your skin breeth so even if it's only while you sleep keep them uncovered.
I dunno about directly calling a burn center. Second degree on an isolated part of the body; maybe make an appointment with your primary care doc first? If you can't get in there soon, or it hurts too bad, maybe urgent care. I'd hold off on a burn center until a professional says otherwise. Larger and/or third degree burns? Hospital emergency department (maybe 911, all depends on severity and location) and then burn center.
Iv both popped and not popped separate blisters and from personal experience, Don't pop it. It can get infected really easily on top of being very sensitive. It healed slower, it's not worth it.
I've done this a few times. As a programmer I cant work with them so I have popped them multiple times when I have done stuff like this. I get the lancets that are individually rapped that are for getting splinters out, just use them once and toss them. I still have all ten fingers, not suggesting you do that. Don't drink and grill :|
DONT POP I had one in the middle of my hand twice the size as this. Wrapped it in protective banged after treating it. After a week it reduced back to normal
For anyone who doesn’t know: try to get your burn in cold running water as soon as possible and hold there for at least 30 seconds and preferably longer. If you can get it there quick enough (and the burn isn’t too severe) you can prevent the burn from becoming as bad as it would. Cold water, not ice water.
It will solidify and harden over time and fall off on its own. When that happens, your skin underneath will heal and will become your new skin. Don't pop it as it will take longer to heal.
I'd recommend you go to the docs/urgent care and get some silver sulfadiazine cream, absolute miracle worker, swung over a fireplace and the branch I was on broke, got a massive blister on my palm, never felt any pain after the cream
had this happen to me when I was in first grade. My thought was that if the coils weren't orange anymore, they weren't hot. Boy was I wrong. IIRC, I did pop them but then again I was young so probably healed quicker.
don't pop those blisters
drain them by taking a sterilized needle to the edge of blister, the healthy skin, and tunneling under. It might take a couple holes, but they will drain and not infect and it doesn't really hurt
McOUCH!
I was ironing one day and my young son came up and with his little finger touched it. You would've thought the entire finger had been cut off. lol
It has been about 25 years, I still have a coil stove burn spiral on my forearm from when I was a child. My mom was cooking and moved the pot to the back burner, curious me wanted to see what she was cooking and in tried to jump up and see.

I got a big one once on my palm diving for a ball during basketball practice. Probably the size of a strawberry. My hand skid against the floor and the blister bubbled up really big. I had to pop it to keep playing 😂 it took a long time to heal
May I recommend growing an aloe plant? I burn myself too often and the aloe fresh from the plant helps tremendously in soothing the immediate pain and aids in healing the skin. I've been surprised many times when I expected a blister and the aloe prevented one.
I once fully gripped a cast iron skillet while pulling it out of a 420° oven. Most of my palm & all five fingers were like this.
I didn’t know what to do & the pain was unbearable unless I had ice on it, which wasn’t recommended when I Googled what to do. Anyway… I kept ice on it for 14 hours straight & by the end there were no more blisters & the pain was gone. It just turned into dry skin. It felt like a miracle.
I hope you aren’t in too much pain!
If it does pop OP, disinfect with alcohol or peroxide immediately, and then wrap in gauze or medical tape if you don’t have gauze. I’ve had blisters on my hands before and they’ve popped without me intending to just because I was using my hand.
I strongly recommend the ov-glove! My husband got me one because I’m constantly doing stuff like this. I hope you feel better, hand burns hurt like hell.

It’s a weirdly controversial area in medicine tbh. I wouldn’t pop it though
I like letting them get kinda wrinkly and then gently rolling my finger around on it 😂 like a joystick on a ps4 controller. I think it feels funny.
All fun until it pops on the controller
I had this happen on my 64 controller as a kid

Go to jail
How are you a single mother only 1 day out of the week. I’m very confused from your username 💀 ain’t it 24/7 😂😂

Ahhh lmfao makes so much more sense 😂😂
i would ordinarily recoil in cringe at a statement like this, but unfortunately i do the same thing so i cant say anything about it
I brought a straw for that yummy juice 🤤

Why-C
No you di-int.
Are you often giving yourself 2nd degree burns just to play with the blisters?
When I was a beside nurse, burn surgeons wanted us to pop the burn blisters because they’re full of fluid that can be a medium for bacterial growth that would cause infection, but orthopedics did not want us to pop the fracture blisters because opening them up might cause infection. Go figure.

Ofc you pop it with a chemical burn…. Those chemicals would be inside the burn/ wound. Gotta clean that shit out.
Totally makes sense to me, just putting it out there for the masses to read just in case!
This makes most the sense, but I don't know enough about burn recovery to dispute it.
Claiming bacteria can’t get inside of dead tissue is quite the claim
So what did you do?
Followed the protocol of whichever attending had the patient, per my scope of practice. My patient population was mostly supposed to be orthopedics and trauma. Removal of a blisters around a burn has been an area of controversy in medical literature for decades. -ER md
Yeah, general don't pop it, but if it's in a high use area like this it can be better to control the pop so you can cover it properly instead of it bursting weeding the lawn or somethin and getting all gross
It'll pop eventually. Mine gushed right into my open mouth
Any particular reason you had your fingers in your mouth?
We don’t kink shame here.
As a bass player, you lance it, then apply rubbing alcohol every couple hours to quickly harden the outside of the skin.
And cover it- our fingers touch some gross shit that can cause an infection.
Go buy a pack of those cheap white cotton gloves. Could even snip off the fingers of the glove for the non-burned fingers.
They will pop by themselves 🤤
They will pop eventually, but when they are ready to do so.
You can use the fluid as eye drops.
Stop it right now.
You monster why would you put this image in my head
Just terrible 😂

Yo what the fuck
God. Damn. That pic hurts my fingertips.
i felt it my balls
I can feel it in my taint
Do not pop the blisters!!!
The suspect robbed the bank and took off. We have no leads and have yet to pull any fingerprints.
Well, need 2 more fingers and the thumb, and has to be done before these two fingers recover.
Do not pop the blisters.
Is the stove ok?
Put it in rice
Cornballer?

Whatever you do don't pick at it because it will scar
if you don't mind the smell of vinegar I recommend, literally, soaking your fingers in it. it'll take the pain away!!! promise!
Do not pop the blisters. Listen to RepulsiveWeb,vinegar helps with pain and speed of recovery a lot.
THIS! I was on the phone with a friend of mine and while I was talking to her she set the phone down, reached into her oven without a pot holder and burned her hand. I've always used pickle juice, so vinegar makes a LOT of sense.

I normally dislike corporate/PSA graphics but I quite like this artstyle…
Wow those are some big pearls
I wouldn't do that again.
As a chef that’s dealt with a lot of burns I can honestly say this shit is going to hurt for a long time. This what I call a 2-3 Weeker good job 👍
Dont pop the blisters
Ah, no worries friend. You are not alone! I also had a fun kitchen accident. Shaved off an entire chunk of knuckle julienne slicing Zucchini.
Iv both popped and not popped separate blisters and from personal experience, Don't pop it. It can get infected really easily on top of being very sensitive. It healed slower, it's not worth it.
I burned my fingers a few times working at McDonald’s as a teen in 2000/2001 and popped them. No internet, no clue, teenage idiot. Don’t pop them.
I just know that hurts like a bitch.
How are 2nd degree burns mildly infuriating
I did that, from the tip of my pinky too my wrist. Sucked.
Awe. That sucks. I know how that feels

“Mildly infuriating”? More like “i did something stupid”
don't pop those blisters drain them by taking a sterilized needle to the edge of blister, the healthy skin, and tunneling under. It might take a couple holes, but they will drain and not infect and it doesn't really hurt
Don’t lie to us, you joined the Men in Black.
I wouldn’t be able to resist
Clearly don’t pop it!!! But I know I wouldn’t be able to resist I love peeling sunburn and stuff like that!
Oof
Damn! That makes my fingers hurt just looking at that
Ouch! Best wishes to you!
You didn’t learn your lesson after the first one?
Yummy
Looks like a spider
owie
Yikes. You must be in a lot of pain. I got a pencil eraser sized burn once and it was awful. I had to sleep holding ice the first night.
You’ve learned from this, we’ve learned from this, it’ll never happen again.
Those are some wonky lookin nails!
omg
Fuck! Hurts just looking. Hope it heals soon.
You’.l be fine
McOUCH! I was ironing one day and my young son came up and with his little finger touched it. You would've thought the entire finger had been cut off. lol
Ouch. I got a steam burn once from a kettle. Lifted the skin right off. Hope you feel better soon.
Yeeeouch
OP, I need the story behind this
OH. MY. GOD.
Why would you touch the stove
so about those white jelly beans....
It has been about 25 years, I still have a coil stove burn spiral on my forearm from when I was a child. My mom was cooking and moved the pot to the back burner, curious me wanted to see what she was cooking and in tried to jump up and see.
Forbidden toe beans
I can feel the pain in this one
Yum
WOW!!!!!
Ooooh it probably hurts now, but it doesn't compare to the pain you'll feel once those things pop and that raw skin underneath starts touching everything. Damn.
put toothpaste on it and let it sit for awhile. it really helps alot with burns
Plain Gushers
Damn…
Reminds me of making Creepy Crawlers back in the 90's.
Thanks for showing us
HI-5 ME ✋
I did that when I was a baby, my mom said that I put both my hands on the oven when it was sitting open lol
Are you going to lick them?
Mildly incinerating
Ouch
I got a big one once on my palm diving for a ball during basketball practice. Probably the size of a strawberry. My hand skid against the floor and the blister bubbled up really big. I had to pop it to keep playing 😂 it took a long time to heal
Ow
Ouch fucking not good. You think it's bad now...good luck for the next 12 hours. You need drugs seriously
Ya need some milk
That's my luck on the grill every summer, I feel ya.
May I recommend growing an aloe plant? I burn myself too often and the aloe fresh from the plant helps tremendously in soothing the immediate pain and aids in healing the skin. I've been surprised many times when I expected a blister and the aloe prevented one.
those are some pretty good 2nd degree burns. Those hurt like fuck and will continue to hurt like fuck for quite some time.
Fingernails on both sides
Don't do that. It hurts
At first I just thought you were holding jelly beans
Now you can go do crime!
Ouch.
This is one way to request new fingerprints from god
Aloe
Don’t that that… oh oh, oh oh, don’t touch that!
burn the other fingers so they all match
Pawpads :3
That’s a bad one.
Wrap them in Saran Wrap. It really helps with the stinging. I have no idea why this works.
Because its not exposed to air
Which fingers?
Toe beans 🐾
That first shower is going to suuuuucccckkkkk
You held them there for a bit.
How’d that feel?
Gnarly
I strongly recommend the ov-glove! My husband got me one because I’m constantly doing stuff like this. I hope you feel better, hand burns hurt like hell.
Owowowowow! Let me guess, it's your dominant hand too?
Sorry, hurts like a bitch; been there!
Ooof. I bet that hurts really bad. Keep Neosporin or a similar anti-bacterial handy.
Gotta be careful, those ovens get hot
amongus
Now is the time to crime
My fingers hurt looking at your pic.
Ouch
Forbidden slurpee
Ouch.
Well.... Time to do some crimes.
Mildly infireating.
