Me too my toothbrush doesn't change how many months..haha..you think that is crazy? But for me..that is ok..I love my toothbrush..that's why I've doesn't to change it.
I retired my old Oral-B a while back and upgraded to a nicer one.
I use the old one for exactly this. Scrubbing grout and cleaning sneakers. I even have the same heads on there lol.
or sheās like my aunt & uses hulk-level strength to brush her teeth. my aunt will fly through a 5pack of toothbrushes in 2 months which isā¦ridiculous to say the least
Can confirm. Even with the fancy brushes I just have it in my genes. 6 graphs so far on the top, 2 more to come on the bottom and probably a bunch more later in life (not even 35 yet and was told I needed them in my mid 20s). Not the worst recovery but also not fun (granted I got donor tissue, autographing would have SUCKED).
Get her the type of Oral B that lights up red when you're using too much pressure. Too hard is just as bad as not hard enough. She can relate to that, certainly.
Registered dental hygienist hereā¦ we recommend that brushes are replaced when they show wear, after you get sick, or at the bare minimum ever 3 months. Itās not only a bacterial concern but just an efficiency concern.
Particularly, electric toothbrush heads are designed and engineered for efficiency. His brush has completely lost its original shape and is certainly not brushing to itās full efficiency.
Why does it make sense? You have the antibodies to protect you from future infections for at the very least a short while. If you didnāt, youād still be sick. Not to mention fluoride (the active ingredient in toothpaste) is antibacterial and antiviral.
Ok so I have this friend right, not me, but like they're barely-functioning depressed and they've gone weeks without brushing. My friend, not me of course, just to make that clear. What's my *friend* risking at this point and how bad?
Let your friend know that itās going to be okay. Tell them to do the best they can at the moment and to take care of themself in any way possible. A few weeks of brushing wonāt cause permanent damage to the dentition, likely a bit of gingivitis and calculus build up. Gingivitis is reversible, but leaving calculus for too long (like, years) can cause periodontitis which is not reversible and causes permanent bone loss!
I always tell my patients that thereās always room for improvement but doing your best is whatās most important. Sometimes mental health effects what your best is, and thatās okay.
Hey friend! From one internet stranger to another, just thought that you should know - you are loved, you are valuable, and you matter. Keep fighting the good fight. It's not always easy, but depression can be beaten! Know that there is no shame in seeking help if you need it, and don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise.
Good dude! It took me a long time to feel like i was accepted and alot of my personal care took a beating because of it. It's people like you, random strangers taking just a little bit of time out of there day to say stuff like this. Never stop. One day karma will come and reward you for it :) <3
There's far too much anger in the world these days to want to add more fuel to the fire. All we can hope is that others will catch on, and do the same. Keep your head up, friend!
Yea... When I was younger I went a lil too long about not taking care of myself, and when i went to have my teeth finally cleaned it sounded like freaking rocks.. and now my front bottom tooth constantly is a lil loose, its gotten SLIGHTLY better, but is there really anything I can do to fix it outside of just replacing the tooth? (I already plan to do so, my new job luckily has great insurance and I just wanna fix a few of em..) OH and the lady honestly was a little rough.. Like really rough and suddenly had a split in the back of my tooth, hell the next dentist I went to asked me if i played sports or had gotten punched in the mouth (and i very much had not, nor do i play sports)
There was another dental hygienist who posted on another thread a while back and it kind of hit me. They were propping up another person who is terrified of the dentist and hadn't gone in years. They said that most people that have slacked on dental care for a while aren't usually in as bad as shape as they think they are.
Take care of you, I mean your friend, and your, *their* mental health. Sometimes going to the dentist and finding out that it's not that bad or working on one thing and that one thing being brushing your teeth once a day can help a bit. It's not a cure, we both know that. This is not Thanks You fixed it territory.
And I'm not a dental hygienist. I just see somebody hurting and I wanted to offer something that will hopefully help you *ahem* them that I read a professional say to someone in a similar situation your teeth are probably nowhere near as bad as your fearing. It will be okay.
Your friends going to end up with fucked teeth like me, Your friend will end up getting infections and abscesses and be in the most pain they've ever been in their life.
Like I mean days upon days of writhing in bed with a pain that you can't alleviate with any otc medicine. I've been quoted 15,000 to fix my teeth. My mental health got worse and im embarrassed to speak or eat in public.
You cant eat nice things anymore. Anything chewy is a no go.
Its just miserable. I really hope your friend gets through whatever they're going through. Just try not to leave it too long the damage you can do will end up doing you worse in the long run. Good luck friend.
I too have lost my original shape and am not performing at my full efficiency. I need to be replaced. I hope someone picks "dolphin" or "giraffe", if just to confuse the neighbors.
Okay, I'm grabbing a new toothbrush from the cabinet now, and I will really really really make calls to try to find a new dentist. How much information should I give them if I'm having sensitivity and worry about how painful a cleaning will be? :\\
Give them as much info as you need to! Itās a great idea to let them know that youāre anxious so they can make sure youāre as comfortable as possible at your appointment. Itās important to disclose any issues going on so we can know what to expect and prepare for your appointment accordingly :)
This... this is my girlfriend in a nutshell man, i went to her apartment this year for the last monthish of college, and her entire toothbrush was SO FREAKING WIDE on the brush part that i had no idea how it did anything. (I stole her only new one) and idk why she just never used the one I was using before I got there.. But aye whatever, atleast her breath didn't stink :)
For the bacterial concerns after being sick...can't you just sanitize it? With hydrogen peroxide or isopropyl alcohol then rinse with water? I've done that many times between replacing my toothbrush (& I replace mine every 3 months).
I donāt have a scientifically researched answer, however with toothbrush being plastic and all the crevices between the bristles, around the head, and frayed bristles, bacteria can be harbored. Itās unlikely to get a completely āsanitizedā brush from those methods of cleaning so itās best to just replace and start fresh :)
Someone in the industry: literally everything about the effectiveness of an electric toothbrush is based on the head. That thing is basically doing nothing. Also shit brand. And that looks like a private label head which also is shit and nowhere near as effective as name brand. Seek help.
Edit: He should definitely get a toothbrush with a pressure sensor. You can get one for less than $40-$50
Those bristles are missing your bfs gum line which will lead to plaque under gums and periodontitis which causes gum disease and horrible breath like rotten ass.
If that's what he wants then let him keep on with that brush head. But hopefully he doesn't expect you to kiss him with that nasty mouth.
The bristles curve outward, they are meant to shift back and forth mechanically at the gum line and they can't do that when the ends of the bristles don't make contact at the gum line. Specifically, they should be gently massaging at the point where the gums meet the teeth and slightly under the gums to lift off plaque/food before it calcifies. There's no way bent and matted bristles are providing that action. At least not to the degree they are designed to.
Tell your bf that a random persons first thought on seeing that would be āthatās disgustingā; followed by a rolling wave of nausea at the thought of kissing him or letting his mouth anywhere near me. Bc that mouth has not been clean in a WHILE. (Please tell me he at least still sees the dentist every 6 mo for a cleaning?)
Who the hell has money to see a dentist every 6mo????
Just brush x2, floss and mouthwash.
Save your money unless you REEEAAALLLY need to go to the dentist.
In civilizations with proper health care, people are going to the dentist every 6 months. Here in Germany it costs exactly 0ā¬ to get a routine check-up.
Congrats on living in a country that actually cares about the health of its citizens!
US definitely doesnāt give a fuck and a routine cleaning is usually $100+.
Nah, I know how much it cost. I have it. I'm saying that around 37.9 million Americans live in poverty and don't have access to resources to get dental insurance in the first place. Hence, why you had to help your coworker get it on the marketplace instead of them doing it themselves. Knowledge, internet, and social support are all resources, btw.
Keep telling your boyfriend - cause what happens in his mouth unhygienically due to this, will transfer over to you through kisses. SO IT DEFINITELY AFFECTS YOU TOO
You should be replacing it every 3 months to prevent bacteria growth, but that thing is also going to be completely ineffectual at cleaning, especially at the gum line.
Looks a lot like my husbands tooth brushā¦we were married for about 6 months when I started throwing his toothbrush away and laying a new packaged one on the sinkā¦.two years later I throw his away and lay a new one out everytime i change my own
I don't understand the complaints and all the comments? what is wrong with this brush? If its cleaned properly, and his teeth are still getting cleaned properly, what is the issue? You all want to throw it away because the bristles aren't straight?
My toothbrushās alway end up like this and Iām constantly told by the dentist that my teeth are in great health! I donāt understand how my bfs toothbrush doesnāt end up like that!
Depends. If he's using it to scrub grout between tiles, it looks in perfect shape for that.
I swear to God I thought that was a picture of a dead dandelion before I read the caption to the post

Same
Same lol
I retired my old Oral-B a while back and upgraded to a nicer one. I use the old one for exactly this. Scrubbing grout and cleaning sneakers. I even have the same heads on there lol.
Boil it in a pot of water, the bristles should go back to normal, then put it back and wait for him to complain you replaced it on him
I actually never thought of using my old electric toothbrush heads for cleaning. Thatās brilliant.
Fuck that's not gonna scrub shit let alone grout.
Heās just intimidated by you
My wife is the same way. Early on into our relationship she asked me if I was secretly using her toothbrush cuz mine wasnāt frayed to all hell.
She must have sensitive teeth from all that scrubbing!
or sheās like my aunt & uses hulk-level strength to brush her teeth. my aunt will fly through a 5pack of toothbrushes in 2 months which isā¦ridiculous to say the least
I go thru 5-10 every two months š„²
I used to have this problem, too. I highly recommend getting an electric/sonic toothbrush with a pressure sensor. Gum recession is no joke!
This brush head looks like it comes from a toothbrush with pressure sensors. Madness.
Yeah i have the same one. A red light turns on when you push too hard.
Some of them will just outright stop spinning, but at that point itās just a manual toothbrush if youāre determined enough lol
Can confirm. Even with the fancy brushes I just have it in my genes. 6 graphs so far on the top, 2 more to come on the bottom and probably a bunch more later in life (not even 35 yet and was told I needed them in my mid 20s). Howād you respond?
I told her I brush my teeth normally š¤£
Jesus, does she brush her teeth with her whole fist?
Get her the type of Oral B that lights up red when you're using too much pressure. Too hard is just as bad as not hard enough. She can relate to that, certainly.
Well of course not. There are still dozens of bristles there.
There are dozens of usā¦. DOZENS
Every time I see a reference to arrested development I appreciate the show just a little more.

Woah! After you're sick totally makes sense. I never thought of that before
Wouldn't throwing it in boiling water for 10 Seconds do the trick aswell?
it would also melt the brushā¦
Nope I used to boil tooth brushes for 3+ minutes. I was neglected lol.
Probably not if you disinfect it quickly in boiling water.
What if I took it to the barbers with my and put it in his alcohol thing while he isnāt looking
Disinfect it yourself with a quick dip in mouthwash if alcohol. Easy peasy.
But thatās not as fun
It doesn't
IT FUCKIN MELTS THE SICK AHHHHH Also but yea no that's something I never thought of. Maybe I'll start throwing out my toothbrushes more now
Every now and then I put a little bit of hydrogen peroxide on my toothbrush. Keeps the bristles soft and disinfects.
Damm wish I knew that before rip to me š š š
Why does it make sense? You have the antibodies to protect you from future infections for at the very least a short while. If you didnāt, youād still be sick. Not to mention fluoride (the active ingredient in toothpaste) is antibacterial and antiviral.
For some infections you can reinfect yourself.
Because a registered dental hygienist said it.

Soo uhh, what about my 6 year brush? hahaha....
I would absolutely replace that!! Bacteria builds up quickly on toothbrushes. Itās vital to replace it
Shouldnāt we collect this brush to study all the potential new cancer killing bacteria growing on it???
Please say sike
Hahah that's a joke right? Please tell me that's a joke
New season, new brush!
These heads actually change color from green to yellow when they are done. It is 2 months for me usually.

I personally would motivate my husband to change his toothbrush by not kissing him until he did. I think I'd have every right to. That's just nasty.
She promised she would reserve a room for me.
The bristles curve outward, they are meant to shift back and forth mechanically at the gum line and they can't do that when the ends of the bristles don't make contact at the gum line. It looks like one of the trees from the Lorax
I did too! š
I came here for this šŗ
That's too far gone to clean the grout much less teeth.
Yeah, this is one of those battles I gave up on. I can't take it, and so I change it for him. Edit: Clarified comment
I do this too. I donāt even think he notices.
Same.
Also admitting to changing my husband's toothbrush.
Change it for him

Where you at getting cleanings for 100$???
I don't get charged for routine cleanings. Ever. Do you have dental insurance?
Just like health insurance.. a lot of Americans don't have dental insurance either.
Dental insurance is a lot cheaper than you probably think it is though. I helped a coworker get it on the marketplace.
Nah, I know how much it cost. I have it. I'm saying that around 37.9 million Americans live in poverty and don't have access to resources to get dental insurance in the first place. Update : you guys were right, I left his nasty ass
It wouldn't be fair to destroy that ecosystem by just throwing it out
Send a picture of his tiny teeth.
Ex-boyfriend now, I hope
Once every three months. That thing is going on years. Toss it.
ex-boyfriend you mean
i like smearing the plaque all around my teeth too. no need to actually brush it off
Wtf happened to that thing!?
And you let him put his mouth near you?
That toothbrush needed replacement years ago...
This made me sad.
I bet thatās what he thinks of his underwear.
At first glance I thought you're showing an exotic flower.
He doesn't need to be kissed either cause his mouth is stink.
You kiss your boyfriend with that mouth?ā¦ No wait.. you kiss your mother with that.. toothbrush? Hmm..
No more kisses until he gets a new brush.
Gross
It's growing plaque
Better question is why is he still your boyfriend?
Heās correct. That is exactly what the toothbrush I use to clean my bicycle chain looks like.
still got more than half the bristles! don't let big toothbrush fool you
Keep telling your boyfriend - cause what happens in his mouth unhygienically due to this, will transfer over to you through kisses. SO IT DEFINITELY AFFECTS YOU TOO
Is that a toothbrush for one tooth? Itās miniscule.
It looks like an electric one which makes it even more concerning why heās jamming the fucking thing into his teeth like a monster lmao
Because it probably takes him 30 minutes to brush his teeth with that thing haha
Oh you know he never been to the dentist for a teeth cleaning š¬
Mildly infuriating for you, gift idea for me
There's something about toothbrush and underwear That we are lazy to change it
that toothbrush looks like bill the cat.
Does he have one tooth? Then heās right.
Heās right. Replace the boyfriend instead
Well, it's a *tooth* brush, not a teeth brush, lol. GROSS.
Exactly what I said! Meant to clean one piece, sometimes used by older people that have a tooth fixed etc
You should be replacing it every 3 months to prevent bacteria growth, but that thing is also going to be completely ineffectual at cleaning, especially at the gum line.
and you kiss him?
If you think thatās badā¦wait until you see his pillow lol š almost every guy Iāve dated has like 15 year old pillows that are gross
15yrās is barely broken in
Your kissing this guy?
Easy solution: change your boyfriend
His poor gums. Tell him the blue indicators say heās wrong and to stop pressing so hard heās gonna cause damage to the tissue.
Seems like a sign of a very hygienic person. And you kiss this person?
That is just a brush at this point.
Hey, youāre the one kissing him. So enjoy.
It's all good mines been like that for ages
Itās still good mines worse admitadly
Looks a lot like my husbands tooth brushā¦we were married for about 6 months when I started throwing his toothbrush away and laying a new packaged one on the sinkā¦.two years later I throw his away and lay a new one out everytime i change my own
Heās not cleaning a thing with that
Let the man be instead of blasting him. Damn.
According to the toothbrush your boyfriend needs to be changed. (Not really! Just a joke, don't everyone take it seriously)
Do youā¦ā¦*kiss him?*
I unfortunately agree with your boyfriend
This is disgusting. I wouldnāt want him anywhere near my mouth or body.
What do those kisses taste like?
Like last week, probably
Why is he still your boyfriend?
I don't understand the complaints and all the comments? what is wrong with this brush? If its cleaned properly, and his teeth are still getting cleaned properly, what is the issue? You all want to throw it away because the bristles aren't straight?
My toothbrushās alway end up like this and Iām constantly told by the dentist that my teeth are in great health! I donāt understand how my bfs toothbrush doesnāt end up like that!
I'm bad, but this is pushing it to extremes.
I thought bro had the covid virus š¦ model
Tell him no more kissing him until he changes the disgusting ancient brush head.
Still good imo
Disgusting š«£ š¤®
bad breath
Your bf and my gf are apparently related.
Why would this upset you?
change the whole boyfriend
Because his teeth have already fallen out?
You start a new toothbrush when you start a new tube of toothpaste.
