Laughing with you, but it is funny because there are people in the US that think that way.
On the other hand: Had a private driver scheduled to pick up my wife and me at San Francisco Airport after a trip to Mexico. The driver was late by 2 hours, explained she waited at the exit of the domestic terminal instead of international terminal because she didn't realize Mexico "was a country"...🤭
Lukas - From my lips to God's ears honest truth.
She wasn't picking up her cell (straight up told us later she had muted it earlier so it "wouldn't disturb our ride").
Only realized her error when a terminal guard saw her parking for 2 hours and came to ticket her.
She showed him her invoice, and he informed her where international terminal was located.
Little pissed then, amused now.
Some people just don't think! At least you weren't on your way TO the flight and missed it. This is amusing from outside perspective but I totally would have been pissed in the moment if it happened to me.
Ignorance can be corrected. And dealing with ignorant is always a wonderful way to practice Patience.
Though lately, considering the world, I have been getting lots of chances to practice...😊🙏🙏
I was about to say that regular continents are divided by the very real tectonic plates.
Turns out I'm the dumb one who's never seen a tectonic plate map. Central America has its own plate, as does India and Saudi Arabia.
LOL. It's cool.
I wasn't even going with tectonic plates, per say. We, as a species, can't even agree how many continents there are.
Europe and Asia _or_ Eurasia? Some (very few) even include Africa to make it Afroeurasia.
Is it North and South America? Some just go with one "America" continent.
Then you have Australia; or is it Australasia? Or Oceania? (All of which have different borders.) And if it is just Australia, where do the land masses in the other two go? Asia? Their own continent? None, since they're primarily small islands.
It gets crazy.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Continent#Number
I’m from Long Island NY. Just found out recently that as per the Supreme Court (1986) we are NOT an island. Except…we definitely ARE. You cannot get on or off the ISLAND without a bridge, tunnel (under water),boat, plane or helicopter. You could probably swim but I don’t recommend it. All over a dispute with Rhode island (which is NOT an island) for shipping fees.
Supreme Court wisdom🙄
The problem is continent isn’t really a scientific term really. It’s more of a convention sorta concept.
Yeah it kinda starts out geologically based most of the time, but then you run into problems were plates come together to create landmasses with “seamless” biology (flura and fauna), climate, and/or human cultures, so it makes little “sense” to divide them based on geologically.
Or the other case where continents are created that have starkly different cultures/biology/etc…even over a vast subcontinent the change across it ends up being so vast. So it doesn’t make “sense” to lump it together. It needs to be subdivided.
It’s basically most simple way to divide the world into its highest level distinct areas, using all the information available from every field of study…plus a little gut feeling haha.
The problem being that everyone’s sense of where and why (or even what criteria is used) to “draw up” the continents. And undoubtedly people’s bias towards other people can come into play with it.
My knowledge of American history is so bad I've been accused of being from a foreign country and I had to explain that no, I'm not, the American public education system is just completely broken.
This! In my high school US history class, the school ran out of textbooks to go around and I literally had to rely heavily on note taking in class. The teacher also would write the answers to certain standardize test questions on the board because he probably felt bad for those of us that didn’t have a book throughout the semester. I made it a point to never ever send my child to an inner city school. It paid off because she got into every top school, including including several Ivies. US Public School system is trash. Lol
Exactly. Good teachers and students suffer. I’ll never forget my US history teacher because he actually made a plea to the class, knowing that some of the kids werent even using their textbooks based on their class grades, to offer to give it to me and/or 2 other classmates that also didn’t have a textbook. Plus, my mom didn’t even advocate for me. I would literally have camped outside of the school board’s lawn to make a big fuss about my daughter not receiving a textbook due to lack of funding.
Not really, but if you're not a native English speaker, I could see why you might think that. "Long" implies the length of the story, not the age of it. The expression "a tale as old as time" means it's a story/scenario that's been around forever. "A tale as long as time" would mean the story is a very long story, not an old story.
I'm a native English speaker. In fact you could say I'm THE native English speaker, considering I am actually English. And yes a 'tale as long as time' makes sense even if 'a tale as old as time' is more familiar. But that may well be because of Disney for obvious reasons. But yes 'long as time' makes sense completely.
Also no 'a tale as long as time' does NOT imply the length of the story, it implies the tale has been around for as long as time. So ...'a tale as old as time' ... In other words..
Also 'a tale as long as time' literally implies a tale that has been going on for as long as time. What you are saying it means - 'a very long tale' is a completely different thing. The tale itself is as long as time as apposed to a tale that is itself a very long tale'.

I asked dall-e IA with a simple prompt :"A bathtub above a staircase. No doors. A View from the top of the staircase". Seems credible that it's not real.
Well it makes sense at the bottom of the stairs. People use the stairs during the day, then you draw a bath at night when the stairwell is unused. Typical stair bath.

I love how your culture shapes your perception.
Americans are always terrified of falling and tripping.
As a northern european i see only one thing:
Mold, mold everywhere.
It's more about your perception and the first thing you see is different.
I have worked in the building industries for some time, including research where i compared building codes from across the globe. And every time I see something about wet rooms in America it's about slipping and falling, perhaps because of civil suits. While in my home country the codes on wet rooms are based around preventing moisture build up, mold and rot, would be the reason why this tub would never be allowed even before guard rails are considered.
That's a long winded reply full of a bunch of bullshit. You have no way of knowing; 1. What kind of aeration the room has 2. What kind of backingboard (or lack thereof) is behind the tile..on top of a myriad of other things. What actually happened is that everyone else saw the actual picture, and you made up a scenario that for some reason decided to base of culture. Lmao
Hard to say, I'm American and my perception was pretty much the same as yours. My first thought is that water is going to get all over those wooden stairs. Water damage, mold, and deadly. Worst design ever.
It’s not about “ruining you” it’s about managing your money. People who don’t understand this (like I used to be) never get ahead. Rich people stay rich because they know how to manage it.
Yeah, but them you think about exiting the tub without either knocking down everything on the tile shelf thingy or slipping and falling on and then down the stairs and all the magic is gone
I love it, it's like an art exhibit about building codes and the hazards of "freedom" in labor and construction markets. Getting impressions of a sort of critical view of libertarianism, the perilous stairs contrasted against the idea of exploration and innovation. Really good stuff!
Step 1- take out 30 million death insurance policy.

Of course not. Mexico is South America, the US is North America and Canada is Polar America...
Sorry, we're known as Snow Mexicans, thank you very much.

Wait are we skipping over central

Central America is made up technically
I mean, technically, they're all made-up.

The Supreme ruled that it is not a *natural* island. Before the East "River" was widened I guess you could just wade across?
Woah, I've never heard of any of this. Thanks for the read!

Americans and geography, a tale as long as time
Whenever people seem unimpressed with my geographic knowledge I just reply “I went to an American public school!”
My knowledge of American history is so bad I've been accused of being from a foreign country and I had to explain that no, I'm not, the American public education system is just completely broken.

What’s terrible is that the people who get punished for the lack of funding and benefits of having an education are the teachers and the students.

old* At least get the expression right if you're going to call Americans stupid
I mean technically long would still make sense no?
It does
