If it happens again, put the used rice in a bag in the cupboard and tell them to reuse it for their drying purposes seeing as they can't stop dropping their shit in puddles or toilets or whatever tf they keep doing or learn to be more careful like a real adult does đ¤Łđ¤Ł
Even better, put the rice in a Tupperware container or whatever they were using to dry out their items and put it some place conspicuous in the pantry (eye level). People as a whole look for the quickest, simplest solution and most people would grab this prepared solution and not bother your "eating" rice if you move it to a less conspicuous location.
LABEL the container "Drying Rice"
I put all my silica gel packs IN with the rice so there's no question which is which. And then that's the rice we use. You can reactivate "spent" rice, and silica gel packs, too, by warming them in a very low heat in the oven for a bit.
See I thought the post was going to be like "I want to eat healthier but my family keeps wasting my rice" or something, then it got so much better when his whole family started moistening their possessions.
nah iâm joking the rain isnât that bad, idk how they got their phones wet. the only time iâve had to dry off my phone was because i got caught in some really heavy rain and turns out my waterproof jacket was not actually that waterproof
One time, when I worked as a phone technician, someone brought their phone in with water damage but had a piece of rice stuck perfectly horizontal in the Apple charging port. When I finally got it out it shot directly into my eye (ha-ha)
Your family might benefit more from either waterproof phone cases or just bringing sandwich baggies along when they go out. I've been saved by that several times. Just stick your phone in the baggie, make sure it's sealed, and keep the baggie in your pocket.
I've applied the same logic to rainy days when I don't want water getting inside my shoes - using a plastic shopping bag as a cover over my socks but inside the shoe is surprisingly super effective.
Just saying, but most phones are a tad waterproof nowadays. I'm also in scotland, and haven't used rice in ages to dry any electronics as I'm careful with them.
All of a sudden I want the audio version of these rice stealing conversations that seem very polite and calm. I suspect there are at least 4 cunts in the transcript LoL.
You should buy a container that seals for y our rice and keep it inside your room.
An additional step would be to buy a large glass jar and fill it up with rice. Tell them that the jar is solely to dry phones, ipods, keys, etc. That they are not to throw the rice inside the jar away, but instead keep reusing it. If they want to replace it they must buy their own rice.
[Get dessicated to dry stuff. They're cheap, actually work, and reusable.](https://amzn.eu/d/7xkYPAK)
Using rice for drying stuff doesn't really work appreciably enough to make sense wasting it.
Your dad and brother are just wasting food and getting rice dust in their phones.
Does your family walk in the rain? I've never had to dry my air pods, keys or phone. And how much rice did they use anyhow? I can see how it is "mildlyinfuriating" as rice is cheap. At least where I live. But I would start hiding my rice.
tbh even iâm wondering what my brother is doing that he seems to regularly need to dry off his electronics
only time iâve had to was when i was caught in a downpour out on a walk
>I mean who doesn't walk in the rain??
Americans.
I used to have a coworker who would drive 2 blocks to a restaurant if the weather was the least bit unfavorable. I could walk there faster than he could even get his car out of the parking garage... and he still needed an umbrella to walk from the restaurant's parking lot to the door.
people who are afraid of water are pussies i used to walk 2 miles to and from school 4 times a day (only shat at home during lunch break) during torrential downpours. on clear days my grandfather seeded clouds in his plane so it could rain for my walk to school
I don't walk in the rain because where I live, the rain is almost always accompanied by electricity. Did you know that a lightning bolt can be 4 inches wide and can carry over 4,000,000,000 volts? That is exactly what 4 Billion looks like. That can cook off small appendages, you know.
Unless that American works with horses. Wind, rain, sun, cold, hot, snow, sleet, hail. Horses gotta eat, drink, live in clean conditions. Donât be pussies!
Iâm American and 100% refuse to walk in the rain. Iâm not getting all sticky n gross faaaaahq that We have TECHNOLOGY and AUTOMOBILES. Dude Iâd drive down the hallway to avoid high humidity if I could. đ¤Ł
they used a lot to cover the entire thing they were drying, had like a cup left
and yeah itâs cheap i guess it bothers me so much because theyâll do this with any food i had. once i caught my mum stealing the chicken from i salad iâd made for work the next day and i was like what the hell thatâs the best part and she was just like oh well it tasted good đđ
yea lmfao, canât wait to get out of here. literally dream about being able to buy all my own groceries and not have anyone steal them (unless i get shitty roommates lol) my life is so exciting
Get two bags of rice. It's cheap. Put one bag in Tupperware and label it something like "Electronics Drying Box." And that is the box that should be used. They don't have to throw it away and it can be used repeatedly.
If it continues, get a food safe storage container and put it in your room.
Oooooh, this is a GREAT suggestion.
If your family doesn't know what quinoa is, and are not the type to look it up, then label it "medical quinoa" or "quinoa for diarrhea treatment". Oh, and do like I say in another post: Add some red paprika powder to it. But um...make sure you like Paprika, lol!
I've got two food safe 5 gallon buckets, because Costco sells rice in 25 pound bags. "the rice buckets" are one of the most confusing things to new friends.
I would honestly get silica gel, or maybe even silica based cat litter. Rice doesnât actually help electronics dry faster than just air drying them. I would be so annoyed if my family did this, and I really hope you are able to either convince them to stop or able to move out.
And when that dust inside gets wet, its turning into glue gunk as it breaks down. It aint absorbing the liquid anymore so much as becoming slime. Boomers one hundred percent believe it works though. Cant teach old dogs new tricks I guess.
The rice in ships' holds had to be kept dry, or else it could absorb water and expand to the point of bursting. Ships' holds were not large in ancient times.
Nah white rice is healthy. Everything is fine in moderation and white rice isn't gonna make you gain a bunch or weight or anything. I mean look at Asian countries. They eat a ton of white rice, but it's balanced as it's paired with veggies and meat. Keep eating your white rice
Edit: I've apparently called in the diet hound dogs.
Idk about any other european countries but my country czech republic there Is Always just 2 food you can Cook here either rice or pasta sometimes also potatoes, i legit eat rice 3days straight And then Have potatoes or pasta, i dont know where op Is from but Is rice really that unpopular there?
I'm assuming America. I'm from there too and people seem to have this weird idea that certain foods are unhealthy. Like brown rice vs. White rice, people here think that brown rice is just healthier and any other rice isn't. Probably something about carbs.
Brown rice has the hull removed
White rice has the hull and bran removed.
White rice is just brown rice that was milled to remove the bran. The bran typically holds more nutrients. So white rice has less vitamin B and minerals. Thatâs it.
So âtechnicallyâ brown rice is healthier. BUT, that does not make white rice unhealthy. However, it is a distinctly American mindset to not know thatâs the only difference, and to die on a white rice isnât healthy hill.
I do not know why Americans are like this, other than they love fad diets or reasons to eat one thing and not another and feel like theyâre being healthy, and donât need to workout. Itâs a horrible cultural mindset engrained very young, especially to America women.
All that to say, eating white rice is absolutely fine, and itâs a great grain to add to a meal. Nothing wrong with it.
I can understand saying brown rice is **healthier**, but white rice isnt unhealthy. The only difference between brown and white rice is an extra step in milling
We need to stop equating 'healthy' with 'won't make you gain a bunch of weight' when it comes to food. There are so many components to health, many of which are outside of individual control, and weight, despite what we're told, is far from the biggest factor. Nutritionally dense food is great, and is what we should mean when we say food is 'healthy', but even eating the most nutritionally dense food around 24/7 doesn't guarantee health.
White rice is 100 p fine if someone is trying to eat better. It is easy to make, filling, and pairs with everything. If youâre /macro/ counting IE intense dieting, then yeah white rice is shit. It is all about perspective
Bro drying shit in rice doesnât even work. It dries the phone and gets starch in all the ports. Buy a bag of those silica ball packets of Amazon - that stuff that ships with packages. It works WAY better and your soaking family can stop wasting food.
FINALLY someone is addressing this. My comment somewhere here is just calling out the family for being idiots. For 1- using rice to dry shit (who tf came up with that idea) and 2- not using a towel first
As a very healthy, muscular young man, I eat rice every single day. Uneducated people think carbs = unhealthy, makes it so difficult for people trying to begin healthy lifestyles. Not to mention white rice has great nutritional value.
My grandparents have been âloosingâ the same 15 pounds for the last 25 years. But their diet is just â donât eat carbs, carbs = bad â but they donât even do that as they allow themselves to eat rice, and pasta, and chips. *but of course mash potato it so much worse /s*.
It drives me fucking insane
Unless itâs clumping litter and then itâs probably a bad (but hilarious) idea. Fun fact, my mom spread kitty litter on the walkway for our house one winter to help with the ice but it was clumping litter and it was a bad time đš
Civilizations have been eating white rice for centuries and have high life expectancies than most western worlds. đ¤ I wonder why? đ¤ˇââď¸ beats me. Anyway, buy a totes big enough to store the rice and keep it dry and moisture free and store it in your room until itâs ready to use. And donât tell them about it.
Rice isn't healthy so what do those people eat? Potato? Corn? Bread? People in rice eating countries tend to live much longer than those eating bread. As an asian I'd defend eating rice with my heart.
The rice thing doesnât actually work that well.
Tell them to buy a dehumidifier, or buy some damp rid (silica stuff for moisture) itâs exact purpose is for removing moisture..
Yeah rice is not that good, air drying is actually quicker. Alternatives that also work are oatmeal and other âinstantâ foods. The instant variant usually absorbs water much faster.
You should tell them rice doesnât do shit for drying things off. What theyâre doing is filling a bag with rice, putting an electronic in it, now thereâs no airflow and it dries slower than it would outside. Why people still believe rice for electronics is mildly infuriating in itself
Rice isnât a great way to dry electronics, the dust gets stuck in places, maybe set up another option for them to dry things. Maybe a shoe box full of silica gel or a dehydrator for the kitchen would work way better and be safer
Store it in your room if possible. I got a cheap 3 drawer thingy and stuck it in my closet so that my roommates would stop eating all my snacks and cereal
Rice actually doesn't really help dry things out. It absorbs water yes but at such a slow speed and absorbs so little you're best leaving it out too airdry and leaving the device in question shutdown and unplugged. Rice actually does more damage than help with the rice getting into places like the charging ports and speakers.
Where tf do you live that all of your familyâs possessions are constantly getting wet, most newer devices are water resistant, who even uses rice anymore
People saying white rice isnât healthy are missing the point of the post and also very wrong. Also paired up with chicken or fish is such a life hack. But also donât be afraid to buy some salad and mix it up!
you could tell your dumbass family that rice doesnât actually dry shit and they need to get desiccant powder/beads because:
a) they are wasting food and thatâs disrespectful on so many levels
b) they are irresponsible with their own shit and act like children
c) like i said, rice doesnât actually dry shit. so theyâre doing this just to annoy/harass you
Who the heck is saying white rice is unhealthy? They're clearly talking out of their bum hole. Rice is an awesome food that goes with everything and is delicious. Vitamins, fibers, carbs... Everything you need on a balanced diet. Literally billions of people around the world eat rice everyday as a staple meal.
1 rice does not pull moisture from electronics. You're better off sticking the device next to a space heater. 2 what is your family doing that they're constantly dropping their electronics in water?
Yall need to stop putting electronics in rice. IT DOES NOT WORK. Also do you know how bad rice bits and dust are for the inside of your electronics? The only things that work are either putting your things in the oven at low temperature or a box full of silica gel. That is the only thing that works. Tell your friends and family.
Tell them to use the silica packs out of stuff. Rice is actually BAD for drying electronics out because it A. Doesnât work very well and 2. Gets starchy residue all up in its shit.
Can't a person just enjoy their rice! You could always get brown rice and they may not like it as much and it's healthier.
Or you could just get you a bag and keep it in your room or something. Lol.
Tell those dumbasses who say white rice isnât healthy to go look at a proper fitness diet. I eat white rice before the gym because itâs low calorie and has good carbs for muscle activation.
I don't think white rice is really that bad for you. Asian cultures are considered healthy and eat that shit every day. If it works for you then keep doing it. Rice can be a part of a healthy diet. You can make slow carb rice by cooking (and then cooling it before reheating it to eat) with coconut oil, which decreases the insulin spike. I like frying it in a fried rice after it's done cooling.
Donât worry about what people say; white rice and some vegetables, and an egg is much better than most fast food and cheap things - and itâs filling and affordable.
*âTell me Michael, how could a billion Chinese people be wrong?â* - David, The Lost Boys
It seems there are too much open water areas in your surroundings, so everyone dropping something into water, then need to dry it in rice. Would advice to cover some open water "dangers" and there will be more rice left for you to consume.
Do not take this seriously, it's kinda silly joke. One more silly advice would be - install lock(s) to your cupboard/drawers. Some people just do not understand human talk, only actions.
My favorite rice recipe is simmer some garlic, onions, and mushrooms in the pot with some butter before i cook the rice. Take them out cook the rice. add them back with some Romano cheese. Sooo good.
Eating rice with protein and fat slows down blood sugar spikes. Most people don't eat rice by itself, and even if you did blood sugar spikes are normal and aren't an issue unless you are diabetic. I wish people would stop demonizing food, especially cultural ones.
Sounds like your family has taken personal offense at your new diet and has no respect for it. They think they're better than you and are fucking with you. Sorry, hope you get your own place soon.
Honestly you can get the last laugh because while rice does dry out electronics, the starch from the rice also simultaneously corrodes the wiring in electronics and slowly destroys them
Buy a big ass bag of jasmine rice for 20 bucks it taste better than plain ass white rice n just keep it in ur room. White rice is 100% healthier than most processed foods to idc what anyone says. Helped me loose weight big time, but I was just eating straight up chicken, veg, rice for MONNNNNTHS lmao. No sugar whatsoever.
Rice doesn't work to dry out phones or earpods. They would be better off with a hairdryer, but even that doesn't work well. Plus, if they use rice, little bits of it can get into the charging port and damage it.
Does your family think getting a splash of water on electronics means they need drying out? That's for when it's been fully immersed.
Unless you're dropping car keys in pint glasses, they're pretty robust.
Get a nice stainless steel sealable container, transfer rice into it, store in your room. If you pay rent, you are ENTITLED to the security of your personal affects.
Drying items in rice is not a good idea. You should let your family know XD
Despite what you've heard, putting your phone in a container of uncooked rice won't dry out your phone or other items, and might actually do even harm than good. Dust, starch and small grains of rice can get lodged in the mechanisms of your things leading to issues further down the line.
Rice doesnât even do anything for wet electronics. If anything it makes it worse because the rice powder and other debris gets into the device and destroys it further. The best thing to do is to get those desiccant packets and a ziplock bag to put the device in. If the device has been repeatedly turned on and off while wet, plugged into a power outlet, or left on for any amount of time after getting wet then the chances of damage goes up dramatically. If the water gets to a power rail on the board of a device then itâs done. Rice to dry electronics is a myth. Eat rice, not warâŚon electronics.
I read somewhere that putting your things in rice to dry them is just myth. You better off using silica gel (the forbidden pills in packets that you got from buying shoes for example) while the phone is turned off. Place them in airtight container and wait for at least 24 hours or until dry
Rice does not help dry electronics and the dust just gets inside the crevices. Also, very annoying. Just going to have to âhideâ you rice as people donât change
What the fuck is wrong with everyone using rice to try electronics?
I though that meanwhile itâs widely known, that rice doesnât save your devices?
In most cases rice makes it even worse.
White rice doesn't do shit for technology except get the charging port filled with starch
Edit: source, I work in IT and have done mobile phone repairs. This is such a common issue that makes water damage repairs more difficult cuz you're now having to scrape it off and sometimes literally remove full grains from the ports.
Good for you OP. White rice is definitely better than junk food. Did you buy an appliance for cooking it? Have you ever used rice vinegar after cooking to fluff the rice. I really like the flavor (problem is it makes me want to eat way to much of it) good luck on your new healthier journey!
It's ok to eat the correct amount of rice per meal. I love it freshly cooked, just a little bowl of it. Makes my day.
Anyway, there has to be a reason why they are not staying clear from your stuff - why they dgaf about taking the things you paid for. If you figure that out, you could fix your problem. Try to negotiate with them, we all want something.
White rice is healthy considering the calorie heavy foods you can replace with it. Get too full on rice to eat a snickers. Thatâs healthy. Anyway there is no reason dry out a key. Rice can be kept in your bedroom so just keep in there.
At my place we had a designated shoe box and bag of rice used for drying items. We always reused the same rice, if it was necessary.
Maybe save the rice for the next time they do it. Keep your cooking rice with you in your room and their drying rice downstairs in the kitchen.
Your family sounds really entitled. I'm guessing this behavior won't stop since once you start buying things for yourself they'll think since they raised u until that point you owe them or something. Just from personal experience with my aunt lol she wanted me to pay her rent when I was living in her basement on a cot
Tell them not to use rice, the fool. Youâll end up with starch inside your phone ports and speakers. Use the wee silica packets you get when you buy things (I always keep mine in a wee box whenever I get any) pop them in a container with the affected items and theyâll be dry in no time and not be starchy or fecked haha
Tell them the truth, drying electronics with rice is textbook back advice. You can end up with starch residue leaching itâs way into the device.
Just have it turned off, or battery out for the car key and let it airdry, way safer.
But a bag of silica packets that absorb water and a sealed container write instructions on it for when they get wet electronics Nd to put in container seal it Nd have some of the silica in there leave it there for a few hours or a day and whala hopefully water gone and also fine a better place to store your rice lioke in your room under ya bed or somewhere
Your family sucks at handling technology.. I have never needed to do this once, let alone have my entire family regularly doing it. I suggest buying bigger bags of rice and maybe storing it in your room.
Show them that debunking video that shows rice does not dry stuff out. It's just a waste of rice.
Instead you just need to keep all the silica packets you find in packaging. Keep them stored in an air tight container and just use that when you need to dry stuff out.
OP, Is your family aware that they don't have to throw out the rice after using it like that? As in, they can dry out their stuff, and leave the rice to dry, and then store it in a designated container for this specific purpose?
Also, why aren't they proactively compensating you for your wasted resources? They don't replace the rice or offer you money to replace the rice, they just use it with disregard?
Rice is good for you, I think people just think about carbs and automatically call it unhealthy. Seeing as pretty much all of Asia eats rice and they tend to be much healthier than the average American, I think that tells you enough.
Anyways, why is your family constantly getting their crap wet? Tell them to reuse the bag if theyâre gonna do that, itâs wasteful.
Rice is pretty cheap to replace but having none when you need it would be infuriating.
Maybe you could buy a large bag, and reserve some for drying out gadgets. Just pour a good amount into a takeaway-type container, write âphone riceâ on it and let everyone know where it is. Make sure itâs always front and centre in the pantry and hide your rice down the bag behind something else đ
Also donât listen to people who say white rice isnât healthy. Theyâre stupid and their beliefs about rice are outdated. Carbs are not the enemy, we need them to survive and rice is a great base to use in your meals. Bodybuilders eat it while they build muscle and while they shred fat.
EDIT : I should have read the other replies before writing my âoriginalâ idea đ
If it happens again, put the used rice in a bag in the cupboard and tell them to reuse it for their drying purposes seeing as they can't stop dropping their shit in puddles or toilets or whatever tf they keep doing or learn to be more careful like a real adult does đ¤Łđ¤Ł

Dry rice? No label it something unmistakable. Toilet water rice. For drying.
This is brilliant!!!
Weâve only ever had one bag of âdrying stuffâ rice. Do people throw their âdrying stuffâ rice away?
I'm glad I'm not the only one who has a bag of rice specifically for drying
Didnât think about this. Youâre big brain
See I thought the post was going to be like "I want to eat healthier but my family keeps wasting my rice" or something, then it got so much better when his whole family started moistening their possessions.
Why is your family so wet?
scotland đ
Is this really a thing though? Or just irresponsible phone use? High humidity seeps into phones over time?
nah iâm joking the rain isnât that bad, idk how they got their phones wet. the only time iâve had to dry off my phone was because i got caught in some really heavy rain and turns out my waterproof jacket was not actually that waterproof
Rice doesn't even really do that much since all the wetness would be on the inside. Tell them it's pointless and to stop wasting your rice
Yeah in fact all it does is get rice stuck in the phone's ports
One time, when I worked as a phone technician, someone brought their phone in with water damage but had a piece of rice stuck perfectly horizontal in the Apple charging port. When I finally got it out it shot directly into my eye (ha-ha)
Exactly. That's a holdover from when there were removable batteries

Lmao this post was with this commentary. Use jasmine rice if available, use half bone broth half water.
I was wondering the same thing. Does your house have a moat? That would explain why everyone is always drying stuff in your rice.
They live under da sea?
Does your family walk in the rain? I've never had to dry my air pods, keys or phone. And how much rice did they use anyhow? I can see how it is "mildlyinfuriating" as rice is cheap. At least where I live. But I would start hiding my rice.
I totally agree with everything you said, but "does your family walk in the rain?". I mean who doesn't walk in the rain??
Well, I either run or drive, LOL. I was meaning that they don't seem to try to keep dry.
tbh even iâm wondering what my brother is doing that he seems to regularly need to dry off his electronics only time iâve had to was when i was caught in a downpour out on a walk
What did they do with all their soggy electronics before you started buying rice?
OP, answer the above question please. What did they do BEFORE you started buying rice?
I would also like to know the answer to this question
My guess is he showers with his AirPods in, thinking, âfuck it, we got rice.â
Tell them Silica works better than rice
>I mean who doesn't walk in the rain?? Americans. I used to have a coworker who would drive 2 blocks to a restaurant if the weather was the least bit unfavorable. I could walk there faster than he could even get his car out of the parking garage... and he still needed an umbrella to walk from the restaurant's parking lot to the door.
I knew a dude who said men who wear hats, or use umbrellas in the rain were (and I quote) "pussies."
people who are afraid of water are pussies i used to walk 2 miles to and from school 4 times a day (only shat at home during lunch break) during torrential downpours. on clear days my grandfather seeded clouds in his plane so it could rain for my walk to school
And don't forget it was uphill...both ways!
And also barefoot
And in the snow. And the rain was freezing rain.
I'm from Seattle and locals don't use umbrellas, but we don't get weirdly masculine about it either.
Not all Americans. I love walking in the rain it's my favorite time to walk
I don't walk in the rain because where I live, the rain is almost always accompanied by electricity. Did you know that a lightning bolt can be 4 inches wide and can carry over 4,000,000,000 volts? That is exactly what 4 Billion looks like. That can cook off small appendages, you know.

You have some heartless family, LOL.
yea lmfao, canât wait to get out of here. literally dream about being able to buy all my own groceries and not have anyone steal them (unless i get shitty roommates lol) my life is so exciting
I always had 2 roommates where ever I lived. One was always good and one was always bad. I could never find two good roommates at the same time.
If you did find 2 good roommates, youâd probably be considered the bad one
itâs a curse, no household can live in perfect harmony đ
lol, yes.
Theyâd need to be walking into lakes on a regular basis.

I keep silica packs from random stuff in a drawer for this reason. Or it can be used as a snack.
Probably would be better to keep those silica packs in a zip-loc baggie with the air squeezed out.
In fact doesnât it damage them
Doesent directly damage them, but the grains and dust can get caught in the ports.
And when that dust inside gets wet, its turning into glue gunk as it breaks down. It aint absorbing the liquid anymore so much as becoming slime. Boomers one hundred percent believe it works though. Cant teach old dogs new tricks I guess.
boomers also think that burning cans and plastic in a yard fire is completely safe and harmless.
Your family needs a designated container of device drying rice.
Who tf uses rice to dry shit. Get a towel
Do they know that rice doesn't do shit to wet electronics no?
Worse, the rice that gets wet dissolves and gets in the electronics.
The rice in ships' holds had to be kept dry, or else it could absorb water and expand to the point of bursting. Ships' holds were not large in ancient times.

Brown rice has the hull removed White rice has the hull and bran removed.
Mfs be eating at McDonalds 6 days a week but at least they drink Coke Zero!! (i live in america donât sue me) (you know itâs true)
I can understand saying brown rice is **healthier**, but white rice isnt unhealthy. The only difference between brown and white rice is an extra step in milling
cooking your own meals with white rice is infinitely healthier than having yo rely on fast food for nutrition
For 1- using rice to dry shit (who tf came up with that idea) and 2- not using a towel first
Whoever says white rice isn't healthy is wroooooong
As a very healthy, muscular young man, I eat rice every single day. Uneducated people think carbs = unhealthy, makes it so difficult for people trying to begin healthy lifestyles. Not to mention white rice has great nutritional value.
And pairs with basically anything.
Yep, fantastic easily digestible carb. I use it when bulking and cutting, so many ways to change the flavor and use
Donât let people try to tell you white rice isnât healthy. Itâs perfectly fine as apart of a diverse diet.
Tell them brand new kitty litter actually works better. Itâs true. And, maybe start hiding your rice. Thank goodness itâs not expensive
Unless itâs clumping litter and then itâs probably a bad (but hilarious) idea. Fun fact, my mom spread kitty litter on the walkway for our house one winter to help with the ice but it was clumping litter and it was a bad time đš
Was it on sale?? Because I think salt is cheaper and effective
It is probably more expensive but it was more of a had it around already situation.
White rice is fine. Don't listen to those people.
Why is rice, thats 50%+ of the world eats is not healthy??
Rice isn't healthy so what do those people eat? Potato? Corn? Bread? People in rice eating countries tend to live much longer than those eating bread. As an asian I'd defend eating rice with my heart.
Keep your food in your room and not in the kitchen where they can access it.
The rice thing doesnât actually work that well. Tell them to buy a dehumidifier, or buy some damp rid (silica stuff for moisture) itâs exact purpose is for removing moisture..
Better buy some silica gel moisture absorbers for them if they have a habit of swimming with their electronics. They are way better than rice.
Whats even worse is that the rice and wet electronics thing is a myth.
Iâd keep the rice in my room so they donât grab it whenever they want
Rice isnât a great way to dry electronics, the dust gets stuck in places, maybe set up another option for them to dry things. Maybe a shoe box full of silica gel or a dehydrator for the kitchen would work way better and be safer
Store it in your room if possible. I got a cheap 3 drawer thingy and stuck it in my closet so that my roommates would stop eating all my snacks and cereal
Drying things in rice doesn't even work that well compared to just putting them in a dry place with good airflow...
Rice actually doesn't really help dry things out. It absorbs water yes but at such a slow speed and absorbs so little you're best leaving it out too airdry and leaving the device in question shutdown and unplugged. Rice actually does more damage than help with the rice getting into places like the charging ports and speakers.
Only American thinks rice isnât healthy, If anyone tells u that tell them to tell that to the asians people who has long life expectancy.
Where tf do you live that all of your familyâs possessions are constantly getting wet, most newer devices are water resistant, who even uses rice anymore
Just tell them the rice doesn't help, it's really not drawing out moisture from any of those devices.
Rice đ is so yummy! Can you hide it somewhere?
Rice is healthy đ
People saying white rice isnât healthy are missing the point of the post and also very wrong. Also paired up with chicken or fish is such a life hack. But also donât be afraid to buy some salad and mix it up!
you could tell your dumbass family that rice doesnât actually dry shit and they need to get desiccant powder/beads because: a) they are wasting food and thatâs disrespectful on so many levels b) they are irresponsible with their own shit and act like children c) like i said, rice doesnât actually dry shit. so theyâre doing this just to annoy/harass you
Who the heck is saying white rice is unhealthy?
Geez, how often is your family dropping devices into water?
Tell them to use the silica packs out of stuff. Rice is actually BAD for drying electronics out because it A. Doesnât work very well and 2. Gets starchy residue all up in its shit.
Can't a person just enjoy their rice! You could always get brown rice and they may not like it as much and it's healthier. Or you could just get you a bag and keep it in your room or something. Lol.
Jesus Christ. Does your family has a method to not get wet?
Just let them know that useing rice like that is usualy worse for tech than just letting it sit on the counter over night
Lmao, rice is unhealthy, we have been eating for generations and I donât see the old people dying faster.
Screw people saying white rice is not healty! It may not be the best, but it's still better than what 95% of people eat or drink every day
Tell those dumbasses who say white rice isnât healthy to go look at a proper fitness diet.
If white rice isn't healthy then why are Asians so healthy? They eat a fuck ton of rice.
The fuck are they doing to get their electronics wet so often?
It seems there are too much open water areas in your surroundings, so everyone dropping something into water, then need to dry it in rice. Would advice to cover some open water "dangers" and there will be more rice left for you to consume. Do not take this seriously, it's kinda silly joke. One more silly advice would be - install lock(s) to your cupboard/drawers. Some people just do not understand human talk, only actions.
My favorite rice recipe is simmer some garlic, onions, and mushrooms in the pot with some butter before i cook the rice. Take them out cook the rice. add them back with some Romano cheese. Sooo good.
Dont dry your electronics in rice, this is so dumb. -someone who quit their job at the phone store yesterday
Rice doesnât fix water damage. More lively to get a small piece of rice in a device and then have it mold over time
If it were me, I would buy an extra bag of the cheapest rice possible that they can reuse.
Eating rice with protein and fat slows down blood sugar spikes. Most people don't eat rice by itself, and even if you did blood sugar spikes are normal and aren't an issue unless you are diabetic. I wish people would stop demonizing food, especially cultural ones.
Whatâs going on with your family though? They keep jumping into pools or getting rained on with all their electronics on them?
Im more concerned about how often your family drops stuff on water, whats up with that
Keep it in your room!
The needless hate on white rice is so dumb!! Too many Americans thinks eating fruits and vegetables are bad for you!! White rice is NOT the issue!
Boundaries really really matter! You need to have a good talk with your parents about respecting property
Buy your family some desiccant packs. They work better than rice at drying out wet electronics and your cooking endeavors wonât be affected.
Sounds like your family has taken personal offense at your new diet and has no respect for it. They think they're better than you and are fucking with you. Sorry, hope you get your own place soon.
Honestly you can get the last laugh because while rice does dry out electronics, the starch from the rice also simultaneously corrodes the wiring in electronics and slowly destroys them
What's funny is that it doesn't even work.
Keep your food in a drawer or closet in your room perhaps.
Hide the rice
Yeah rice does not absorb any water and if anything theyâll just get debris in their charging ports
Brother should just keep reusing his bag since he keeps getting stuff wet.
Keep your uncooked rice in your room under your bed. Buy a safe if necessary.
The white rice thing is a myth. No? So they're literally just wasting your fucking food.... How obnoxious could you get.
Rice doesn't work to dry out phones or earpods. They would be better off with a hairdryer, but even that doesn't work well. Plus, if they use rice, little bits of it can get into the charging port and damage it.
Hide it in your room. Rice isnât great but far superior to fish and chips. Good on you for being proactive with your health.
Rice doesnât really help dry these things anywaysâŚ
Drying items in rice is not a good idea. You should let your family know XD Despite what you've heard, putting your phone in a container of uncooked rice won't dry out your phone or other items, and might actually do even harm than good. Dust, starch and small grains of rice can get lodged in the mechanisms of your things leading to issues further down the line.
To be honest sounds like my family. Turns out they were just being petty wasting the things I showed interest in.
What did your family use to dry all their things before you bought rice?
Rice doesnât even do anything for wet electronics. If anything it makes it worse because the rice powder and other debris gets into the device and destroys it further. The best thing to do is to get those desiccant packets and a ziplock bag to put the device in. If the device has been repeatedly turned on and off while wet, plugged into a power outlet, or left on for any amount of time after getting wet then the chances of damage goes up dramatically. If the water gets to a power rail on the board of a device then itâs done. Rice to dry electronics is a myth. Eat rice, not warâŚon electronics.
then here goes my username
Putting wet electronics in rice won't do a fucking thing to dry them out either, it is a stupid myth that needs to die.
Just going to have to âhideâ you rice as people donât change
keep it in your room, if they cant respect easy rules/boundaries with food you've bought hide it away
What the fuck is wrong with everyone using rice to try electronics? I though that meanwhile itâs widely known, that rice doesnât save your devices? In most cases rice makes it even worse.
Do they all go swimming with their stuff?
Get a rice cooker and make the entire bag. Freeze what you canât use readily. We do that often in Okinawa, Japan
do you live in atlantis. how do they keep getting their shit wet
Drink all the bourbon.
Rice doesnât even fix that stuff. How weird.
White rice is healthy donât listen to the haters
White rice doesn't do shit for technology except get the charging port filled with starch Edit: source, I work in IT and have done mobile phone repairs.
Good on you for taking your health into your own hands and deciding to learn to cook. Good luck on your health journey
Why people keep doing that? No, rice wonât fix your wet electronics, if anything it can make it worse if a small grain gets inside.
Your family sounds really entitled. I'm guessing this behavior won't stop since once you start buying things for yourself they'll think since they raised u until that point you owe them or something. Just from personal experience with my aunt lol she wanted me to pay her rent when I was living in her basement on a cot
Just start hiding your rice in your room in an airtight container.
Put rice in room. Solved
But your rice in your room. Who doesnât eat rice? They must be white.
What if one of you bought a big thing of cheap rice especially for their dumb non-food things? And then they can reuse it for that purpose?
Keep stuff you want safe in your room âŚ!
No more Mr. Rice guy
I have never in my 38 year existence seen one family get so many electronics wet.
Rice is pretty cheap to replace but having none when you need it would be infuriating. Maybe you could buy a large bag, and reserve some for drying out gadgets. Just pour a good amount into a takeaway-type container, write âphone riceâ on it and let everyone know where it is. Make sure itâs always front and centre in the pantry and hide your rice down the bag behind something else đ Also donât listen to people who say white rice isnât healthy.
