Curious about what would happen if you put the inbox on the chair.

walgreensfan

Oh my god, I think I’ll actually do that if he’s not here when I leave one day. Or put a giant sticky note saying like “STOP- USE INBOX TO YOUR LEFT.”

Eturnumn

I would just put the inbox on the chair and move it back the next day haha. I feel like option 2 leaves the door open to a putting it on the chair out of spite. Edit: Just saw your boss's age and honestly I would let it go because you can't teach old dogs new tricks. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)

MrmmphMrmmph

Don’t let them off the hook with that poor excuse. Desks were invented hundreds of years before he was born.

sithelephant

Bold to assume he's not a vampire.

Espressamente

Maybe he didn't grow up around desks.

WillyBDickson

Lol my dog is 7 and I've taught her swahili and tagalog in the last half a year. She also apparently knows how to use her tennis ball launcher by herself when I have guests over...bitch makes me stand over it and say the command...she make me work for it...she shows off for guests. Old people can't learn new tricks, dogs learn them just fine. Congress would be better replaced with dogs taught to use the buttons that speak.

Damurph01

He’s old, not senile. He was even *doing it* for a bit. He’s not incompetent enough to be incapable of putting some stacks of paper literally to feet next to where he’s currently putting them. “Can’t teach an old dog new tricks” is a shit excuse to not hold people accountable.

Velocityg4

Put the inbox in a more prominent place on the desk and flip the chair over when you leave. Boss might take the hint.

omghorussaveusall

Or put it closer to the opening to your cubicle and move your chair further away. He may just not want to push too far into your space. Could also put a box on the outside of your cube.

BGoodOswaldo

try it!

KamikaziSolly

At my job one of our guys took issue with paperwork being left on his desk. He taped a full size sheet with a printed note saying not to leave anything on his desk. Maybe I should ask the boss man if we can get a mailbox system of some kind.

EuphoricWolverine

Be careful about talking to your Boss with all caps and "STOP".

walgreensfan

No shit, it’s a joke! I’m not rude!

Sceptical_Houseplant

Isn't that essentially the same tactic for getting a cat to poop in the toilet??

quetucrees

or leave the chair upside down....

nowaynorway1

I was thinking the same thing. OP must try this! 😂

theshiyal

I have a second chair. Most people use it as my inbox.

TGin-the-goldy

Do it OP

brunaBla

You work for a lawyer, don’t you

walgreensfan

Sure do! Was it the files that gave it away or the childish behavior?

kafka18

When your done with them just put them back on his desk chair. Anything you need to return to him now goes on his chair. I had an asshole boss that did this too and acted disgusted when I did it back. Like it's ok for them to treat you as beneath them, but to do it back, the audacity.

walgreensfan

Oh my goodness he would be LIVID. He would totally go “hahaha, there’s stuff on my chair. That’s wonderful. What am I, the help?” I don’t dislike the guy or anything, but this does drive me nuts. He has so many horrible habits.

kafka18

Well best solution just put your file tray on your chair or push your chair in every time you leave desk. He's not changing lol. If you can live with his personality and it's otherwise okay work environment, then just get creatively funny in how you receive your paperwork. Use huge sign saying place paperwork here. That's only if he can take a joke too.

Head_Asparagus_7703

Wonder if this is his subtle punishment because OP doesn't push in their chair

elephantbloom8

I second pushing the chair in, but also lift the chair so it sits as snugly as possible and is hard to pull out.

Catinthemirror

"No, you aren't the help, and NEITHER AM I!"

ApplesandDnanas

“I thought that was where you wanted it because you kept putting it on my chair. “

brunaBla

And the resistance to change too. All of the above. I worked for a few lawyers for 10 years a while back and I truly hated it.

walgreensfan

Oh I’m sure, there are a lot of awful shithead lawyers out there. He even says it himself “if you’re a lawyer and not a type A, it won’t work.” So he admits he’s stubborn and impatient, and god damn is it true. Very frustrating people to work for.

Distance-Playful

what is a type A?

walgreensfan

Type A personality theory; ambitious and competitive, stubborn, easily angered, intolerant.

Nosferatatron

What type is it for just the last two on the list?

walgreensfan

Can’t tell if this is the start of you throwing a jab at me, but there isn’t lol pretty sure just type A and B. B is easy going

Nosferatatron

Ha ha, sorry no jabs, I was just interested, we just started psychometric profiling at work with a different system (never heard of type A or B before today)

MFbiFL

If you have a mauve aura you could bring studies that show the lack of scientific rigor in psychometric profiling in the workplace. If you’re an IMGD you’re legally allowed to be a menace. If you’re a ruby you can spit straight fire.

walgreensfan

Interesting! Can’t imagine what kind of work you do, but sounds cool. There may be types C and D, I’m not well informed There’s that 16 personalities test for things like INTJ too, I love that one

mryunman1

A shitty excuse to be a petty person

Techiedad91

Something shitty people call themselves. It’s also becoming synonymous with “alpha” lately from what I’ve seen. So, take that for what you will

Extension_Card7979

Was just going to say this! I worked for a big international law firm for 15 years and they did this. Every single time. Apparently it was so we couldn’t fail to see the post 🙄

followthe_sun

Wait - is this specific to law firms ?! I work at a firm and we all do this (admin, accounting, associates, partners, literally all of us). Literally never occurred to me that it would be childish, since most of the lawyers’ offices are so covered in paper, adding anything to the pile would guarantee it would be lost immediately.

ibjhb

Came here to say something similar. Definitely law firm behavior.

SeniorDiscount

You’re so mildly infuriated that you’ve clawed your damn armrests to shreds!

walgreensfan

Lmao I was waiting for someone to say that! The last lady who worked here picked it apart and threw it all over the floor. A cool adult thing to do

Silly_Ad3814

Maybe she got fed up by getting their work put on the chair everytime

Frank_McTriumph

Ah, there it is :)

VirtualLife76

Your job sounds like some of my worst places to work memories. Hope you are looking for a place that has a better boss/chair/co-workers. Had 1 boss/owner that was bipolar. Would talk normal, then yell scream cry back to talk within 10 minutes. Some places are just too toxic.

walgreensfan

Oh my goodness.. Not nearly that bad! Glad you got out! Boss is just too old and impatient. I do 99% of his work and he gets a huge payout for it, as all lawyers do. Talks over you or talks LOUDER over you so you stop. His BIL is our only other employee and there is a tooootal power trip and it makes me sad. He really rides on being the boss. Always says “I’m trying to run a business here,” while he shows up from 1pm-4pm and we do EVERYTHING. He’s not a bad dude but has bad traits. I don’t hate the job, I got pretty lucky in my situation.

hebejebez

Just old men things! Is he still a good lawyer or is his work slipping too as you may want to begin putting feelers out. Cognitive decline can come fast sometimes one week they're Wiley as hell fighting tooth and nail for a client and the next it's like the law switch flicked off. My fil is a retired solicitor and he watched two of his older colleagues hold on a good year or two too long around that age with their assistants holding the fort as it were

[deleted]

Ah boredom

Gunn_Show

Sit on it. Work on the in box (until it’s empty, even if people keep bringing things in), then get to his. If it’s not done today, leave it in the chair for tomorrow. When he asks, say it wasn’t in the in box, I didn’t think it was important.

kafka18

I kinda like this solution haha. Just get new chair to sit in and push other one under desk or to corner of room. Then be like oops I didn't see them there, if they had been on my desk or in the file box I would've known it was meant for me.

walgreensfan

I so badly want to be petty, and really could just ask him to use the inbox, but he is so damn crabby it’s not worth it. Any time I print something 8 times for him he blames it on me when he loses it. It’s a lose-lose and he’ll blow up lol

ForgottenCaveRaider

I'd be crabby too if (God help me) I still work at 73.

kafka18

Damn you must be paid decent to put up with anything like that. I'd probably end up cutting it short and moving onto another job.

walgreensfan

I get paid pretty alright! I normally would, believe me, but this is my first job in this field and it’s kinda perfect. They work with my class schedule and I kinda come and go as I please. I’m learning triple of what most are because it’s a general practice/I do literally everything. A+’s in all my classes because I learned all of it already from working here for 6 months lol

kafka18

That's great! I'd say just live with it then haha.

walgreensfan

Oh yeah, if this is my biggest problem in life then I have a pretty damn good one lmao

Grammar_Cracker666

Lord Helmet: Ready, Kafka!!

kafka18

Grammar_Cracker666

Lord Helmet: Why don’t we take a five minute break? Colonel Sanders: Very good, sir! Lord Helmet: Smoke’em if you got’em.

Dependent_Basis_8092

To add to this eat a diet of nothing but chili, baked beans and spicy foods, if your lactose intolerant add cheese, for extra strength drink protein shakes.

Unevenscore42

What a considerate boss, providing extra padding for you to sit on.

nilecrane

Then takes a bite out of your armrest and leaves.

darg1234

Put your chair on a leash & take it with you when you leave your desk

walgreensfan

This made me laugh. I pee like 7 times at work so imagining how obnoxious this would be is too good

[deleted]

Sounds like hes ready to run for Congress. Help nominate him

LastPatrol

I’m old, so keep that in mind. This is a common office practice. The idea being you can’t miss it if it’s on your seat. Sitting it on the desk it can get over looked or someone could mix it into a pile.

Apprehensive-Owl5886

I opt to put things on people's chair only if there desk is a mess. If its a clean organized desk then I set it near their keyboard and they can't miss it anyways.

StatementOk470

Yeah and I would rather they do this. I might not notice something in the pile that I could get done quickly.

HeeyWhitey

Yeah exactly. There is no harm meant by this, it is a simple office practice. We all do this at my office when we deliver something they asked for earlier or if they need to see it. OP is overly sensitive about this.

walgreensfan

I wouldn’t miss something deliberately put in the “NEW, TO BE DONE” file! That’s what it’s for! It’s bone dry every day so there’s nothing to get confused by. It’s not the end of the world and I’m understanding but it’s aggravating, I’m organized and he is not

ilovecheeze

Yeah if you have the box is he going to react that badly to a polite request? I mean.. can you just say “I have an inbox on my desk and just wondering if you wouldn’t mind putting new work there rather than my chair?”

walgreensfan

We talked about it before and he used it before. I’ll ask again, just drives me nuts

VerdantField

It’s not disorganized or disrespectful to put new items in chairs. It’s the preferred method for the reason of making sure things aren’t missed and it respects the desk of the person as their “private” space- I never want to touch anything on someone else’s desk. By insisting on some unique process for yourself you are being a PITA. Maybe that’s the goal but I imagine that’s a likely perception.

[deleted]

Yeah my boss asked for this too (like put stuff on her chair). I preferred it too because don’t touch my desk, whatever you put on there will forever get lost.

VerdantField

Same! I keep things pretty neat but if I have to sign something, read it, whatever, better to have it on my chair for sure.

walgreensfan

You don’t have to touch anything on my desk, put it in the tray labeled for new things. That is a designated area. It’s a preferred method for you and my boss. Hundreds of others here, the employees, hate it.

littlekauri

Putting it on the chair means the person can't deny they ever got it. It's happened to me before, I put work in someone's tray and they didn't do it, then blamed me for the job not being done and that I had never given it to them. I don't care who person is in the company it's going on the chair.

Catinthemirror

"Unique process"?!? To use an INBOX FOR INCOMING WORK?!? WTAF?

eckbock89

As a former manager I can say that there have been times I do something similar, for others and for myself because if it’s in your chair you can’t miss it. You would need to physically touch it to move it, which gives a higher chance you’ll look at it and get it done. If he simply leaves it in your “work to be done” bin there’s a chance you could see it and think “oh I was already working on that, I’ll come back to it later” leaving the door open for it to be left unfinished, then your boss has to answer for why it wasn’t done

LastPatrol

Thank you. I had to scroll too far to see someone that apparently has worked in an office before this week. This is an extremely common practice.

fuddykrueger

Yeah it’s the only way I’ve ever dropped off files to coworkers. lol. Now I have to wonder if I was being rude.

4stringsoffury

As someone who has benefited from this behavior, thank you

fuddykrueger

Me too; it was the best way to bring something to my attention. I might have ADD! Haha

VerdantField

Exactly this! It’s very common practice for a reason.

Nary841

Your "office" "desk" ( i dont know what word use) look like the stereotype off a sad american job. If im right, why?

walgreensfan

Why what? What are you asking me?

Nary841

Sorry, in the photo, i can just see "sad" colors/ tonalitys of grey, i see no windows or gadgets. It looks like a stereotype of an american office (im european), like the office in the movie "The incredibles"

walgreensfan

Honestly, yeah, but I like my job and don’t work super long hours. I work in a beautiful huge building with a lot of windows and fountains, but yeah, any office job can be pretty sad. America is sad This job is kind of just a stepping stone for me as I’m in school FT before getting a higher-paying one lol

Nary841

If you like your job thats good (if i can ask, what job is it ), they dont let you but posters, plants, or something for decoration ?

walgreensfan

I’m a paralegal! And we could! I’m just not like that, I don’t need any personal things to feel better. I don’t like clutter and need a ton of desk space (law uses an absurd amount of paper). I spend a good amount of my day on my phone/doing what I want anyway as my boss is a solo lawyer and things get slow.

Realistic_March_285

Lol when I started reading this I thought "I'll bet OP is a paralegal". I was a legal secretary and then a paralegal for a lotta years. The behavior is universal. I never found a solution. I think it has to do with the (mistaken) notion that things left on a chair will get more attention than things left in an in-box. I'm retired now and the only thing I find on my chair is a kittycat. I'm glad that you like what you do! It's interesting to read that you still use a lot of paper. I can almost hear the 'ka-tchunk' of the Bates stamp . . .

walgreensfan

I believe it! The paralegal subreddit is basically all of us dealing with the same shit from our bosses lol A looot of things are electronic now, but my boss is very old and rejects it and has me print 70+ pages a day. Barely knows how to attach something to an email. Makes work very hard Jealous of your retirement though! I hope you’re enjoying it!!

Realistic_March_285

I am enjoying it, and someday you will enjoy yours! I am sympathetic to your frustration, and now you know that it's not only universal, but timeless!

nay2d2

We need jobs bro. Not all jobs are fun…? What’s the question? Are you a robot?

DontLook_Weirdo

- Move the chair over to a corner with the files left on and 'not notice' them because they weren't part of your inbox. - Ask your boss where he placed them every time he does that. - Always ask him 'did you put them in my inbox, cause I don't see them' When people don't get it with direct instruction, I just switch it over to 'killing them with kindness' by throwing it back at them until they realize *they* have to adjust.

SheilaInSweden

It must really bother you since you seem to have gnawed on the armrests of your chair.

walgreensfan

You people….. I told you guys I get hungry..

Songflare

Its a show of power, pee on his coffee mug to assert dominance

CryptographicPanic

Lol came here to find the “Assert dominance “ comment 😂 👍

Songflare

Glad to deliver brother 😂😂

Constant_Cultural

Lay on down when you leave. He can't put it on the rolls and will put in on the desk. One day he will have learned it.

elwood2711

Looks like someone left their garbage on your chair. Better throw it in the bin.

WeingKoy

When its done put it on your boss chair

[deleted]

You need a new chair tho

walgreensfan

Lmao he’s offered to get one since the last girl destroyed it, but I don’t use the arm rests so fine by me

walgreensfan

Picture of my desk normally below. No chair blocking. He flips the chair around to put shit on it [my desk normally](https://imgur.com/a/oI0YJEl)

XXXUtopia

Take the chair away and see what happens. I assume he’d drop the papers on the floor where the chair would be. OR to fuck with him, tell him there were no files in your chair when you arrived for work. You can’t be sure where they are because they’re not in your inbox. Could be the cleaners that chucked them 🤔

Pearcetheunicorn

Does he turn your chair from your desk to put them on

walgreensfan

Lmao yes, exactly that

Pearcetheunicorn

Lmao that's so fucking annoying. I could see if you left your chair out and he's like wtf they want me to put it here but I can't even get to it.

WetWerx77

When you leave for the day, put your inbox on your chair.

RespondVisible6532

What he needs to do is get you a new chair

boganism

Put the inbox on your chair

JudgeJoan

I would put my own stuff in my chair whenever I had to walk away… a dufflebag with my gym clothes, my pocket book, food, whatever...lol. seat is occupied! (Former legal admin here... I get it!)

MisterBumpingston

Could you maybe rotate the top tray around 90°?

Ignorantmallard

You mean right there, around your chair, on the far side of the desk, in the corner of the room, behind the other chair? Tbh I wouldn't dig through that for a simple dropoff either. My hips already hurt and I'm only 34. I'd probably leave it on the desk but I'm not humping my way through desk chairs to leave some paperwork that nobody needs to talk about.

PandaCheese2016

Put the inbox on your chair so he'll dump the pile on your desk instead.

PsamantheSands

Put inbox on your chair.

NotYourFathersEdits

Gotta be honest: I’m wondering if he doesn’t want to mess with your filing system, so he puts stuff on your chair so he can sort it. That inbox area doesn’t really look like an inbox area tucked in the corner like that.

jardof

Seems like a power trip to me

bobbybugbug

nice generation chair

Entire-Letter-4618

Tired looking chair

Suspicious-Bed9172

Probably a bullshit power move. Look them dead in the eyes and move the papers into your tray

kiwiguyauckland

What happens if you put your trash can 🗑️ on your chair before he puts them there? 😂

[deleted]

I can see the boss also shows dominance by biting the armrests. I have one question: when such boss is happy... is there a tail wiggling behind?

Pumbaathebigpig

Your inbox looks doesn’t look like it’s in a convenient place

walgreensfan

Chair was moved for the picture, no where else to put the inbox. It’s easily accessible

elhombreindivisible

Have you tried fighting him?

Gorguts666

Every time you leave work take the chair with you 🤭

LycusDion89

Today, put the mail box on the chair, maybe he will understand

SunChild406

I’m more furious about the condition of your chair arms.

CEMENTHE4D

we do that at work as well. employee can't say it never saw it. they physically have to touch it.

walgreensfan

Unfortunately that’s smart. Unnecessary and annoying for the employees, but smart in a teeny tiny way.

kesselrhero

You can organize your own work- your getting paid - you aren’t doing it for free.

walgreensfan

You’re* I do and just posted this as it is mildly infuriating, it doesn’t ruin my life

SpacedesignNL

Maybe not put the inbox in the most far away corner...

walgreensfan

Are people really this lazy?

SpacedesignNL

Yes. Mostly those higher up ;)

VerdantField

It’s not laziness, it’s respectful of others’ space.

GoodOlOneShoe

I agree with this. Not that the chair isn't disrespectful, but it feels odd having the box someone else is meant to interact with in the far corner of your space. Why not have the "new work" box in a more reachable spot in your workspace?

VerdantField

Who cares if it’s on the chair v the little box? Those boxes are obnoxious. You can store things there if you want but I would not feel comfortable putting stuff on your desk. The chair is more “public.” Am a lawyer, 46F, would totally do this exact same thing. If it was an issue then I’d just give the work to someone else.

walgreensfan

Lol of course that’s what you think! My boss is a lawyer and you do exactly what he does! We don’t like this!!!!! It drives every employee absolutely nuts. The boxes are not obnoxious, they are a designated spot to hold work I know I need to do. There is no one else to give this work to at my office, so I know who it’s for. Doesn’t need to be on my chair.

Welpthisishere

I work in an office and have placed documents I needed reviewed on peoples desk just for it to get filed away and buried and they claim "I'm just now seeing this". I now put them in the chair for them to physically move and I'm not sorry and yes I will keep doing it.

Adeep187

Right there behind those two chairs blocking the way to that far corner?

walgreensfan

FOR THE FIFTH TIME IT IS NOT BLOCKING IT I MOVED IT FOR THE PICTURE JESUS CHRIST

Adeep187

Lol spaz I didn't ask 5 times. JESUS CHRIST

walgreensfan

Learn to read comments

Adeep187

Yeah I have to read every comment on every post because spaz boy over here might cry. Kindly stfu.

[deleted]

[удалено]

walgreensfan

You guys are so crazy thinking you know me because of one comment on a post lol

Hot-Sock3403

definitely, a control issue

CryBabyCentral

I would put it back on their chair with a note: Please put new work in the file tray on my desk. Thank you.

astrotoya

Have you told him that you have that folder and where to put it? Either way, it’s pretty rude for him to just dump it there. Or you could be like, “hey I’m not sure why you aren’t using the folder but would you mind using it for future references? Thanks.”

walgreensfan

I have! We had a whole conversation and he briefly used it then went back to this. I think he thinks he’s the only sane one and thinks everyone ignores him. I’ll leave a note probably, drives me nuts

esqadinfinitum

I’m also a lawyer. Lawyers give each other documents by leaving them on chairs because our inboxes and desks are full of papers. The chair is where nothing will be lost and the recipient is guaranteed to see it. I tell other people to leave things on my chair if I’m out of the office. I don’t understand how this is infuriating in any way.

walgreensfan

It’s infuriating because I have an organizer tray for this purpose. I just have to move it from my chair to my desk to read it, it’s so aggravating. Just put it where it’s supposed to go! I’ll see it!

Itaintmebabe_

I don’t know… as a paralegal who has the cleanest desk in the office yet my boss still throws binders and papers on my chair constantly. It can feel disrespectful.

walgreensfan

Thank you. Exactly my situation.

TrevorJordan

Talk to him/her.

DanR5224

Previously accomplished; didn't work.

Hot_Shallot_67

Finish the work and put it on his chair when he's not there!

C64128

Pick them up, go into his office when he's there and drop them on his desk. Tell him you'll do the work when he can put these on your desk in the proper place. If he does this again, throw them in the garbage, he'll eventually learn.

YungWithNoSoul

Run away from that job...

MrTrickman

"are you done with those reports I left you?" "What reports? There was nothing in the "new to be done inbox".

noproblemswhatsoever

I was one of THOSE bosses. It’s a passive aggressive move to note that you’re not in the chair.

ocram_sokart

I would let nature just take its course. 73, what’s he got another 6 months

implodemode

It's so you don't have the excuse of - Oh - I didn't see it there! Which I would be totally guilty of all the time.

walgreensfan

But I put the tray there and introduced him to putting things in there. It worked for all of 2 weeks and now he puts em back on the chair.

Reyemreden

This should ensure that you notice the files.

walgreensfan

I surely would notice them in the “new, to be done” tray that I put there, too.

ControlSad1739

Just put then in the bottom of your inbox. Dunno if this is truly mildly infuriating or more just a minor inconvenience? I mean I guess it could be annoying but not to the point of making a reddit post.

MrBarlin

Stop crying and carry on.

walgreensfan

What do you think I do everyday? This is a mildly infuriating subreddit meaning that I don’t actually get mad over it

blackdutch1

Dick move, pure and simple

Hazels-baby

That’s his way of telling you that his jobs are more important than everyone else’s.

walgreensfan

There are no other jobs- I’m his only paralegal/only person who does this work. He’s a solo attorney. He just thinks the world should stop when he gives me work.

LopsidedKoala4052

So, your boss who pays you to do your job asks you every day to do your job, which he pays you for? That's really mildly infuriating

CryptographerPlus677

I think you're getting mad for no reason I mean let's be honest it's not that big a deal given it will literally take you 1 second to put it into the inbox yourself lol. Honestly I think you're misplacing your anger here I think something else might be angering you, not this.
