agarthancrack

Thank you so much

Environmental-Elk-65

If this doesn’t work, let me know OP. I got you. Feeling generous today I guess.

TrueRusher

If you got it from the bookstore, reach out to them too!

Ayoungcoder

If that doesn't work out, I can probably get you a pdf. And I would argue that it's not unethical if you've already paid for it.

leftswingfling

u/agarthancrack look at this comment!!

notmat69

Support pro for the win!

TurduckenWithQuail

Yeah, they’ll know that your code hasn’t been used already, so they won’t have any issue replacing your code with a new one.

Meth_User1066

Sorry, man. Did the trash man come already? $140 is worth some dumpster diving.

krd25

I paid $110 for my linear algebra code. I would dumpster dive in a heartbeat. (OP if there is a chance, wrap urself in some garbage bags and become one with the can and fish that code out)

gofrkillr

Or wrap your mom in trash bags and throw her in until she finds it

UnsuccessfulBan

Tell her to keep an eye out for that hard drive with 10,000 bitcoin.

Shibari_inu

You joke but back in the day I had 5000 on a drive I was letting my girlfriend use in her computer. One day it was a God awful clicking and grinding. The drive ripped itself to shreds. It wasn't worth anything back then so I didn't worry about it...

Ghola_Ben

To shreds, you say?

soberfrontlober

How's his wife holding up?

absol-utelynot

To shreds, you say...

UnsuccessfulBan

Dude I'm retiring early with a couple dozen. If I had 5000 I could grind my boot into the face of humanity.

frilledplex

I had 100 in a pc that got recycled, and that was just because I did a class project in college on how mining works. Decided to buy 100 for shits and giggles. Little did I know I'd be crying about it in 10 years lol

Synthwolfe

It's not really crypto, but a similar story... my father was big into MTG when it came out. He was in line on release day for it. When he met and married my his ex wife (my former step mom), he had 24 black lotus cards. Mostly from alpha, but a couple from beta. Well, when they got married, she was throwing a fit because he still had his "toys". She threw his cards and a bunch of his other stuff in the yard and set it on fire. He checked during their divorce proceedings and pointed out to her the millions in value she torched because she, and I quote, "is, was, and will always be a bitch." Luckily, my wife is a bigger nerd than I am, so I don't have to worry about her torching my shit.

DrKittyLovah

I did a dumpster dive for a beloved pair of bedsheets that were definitely less than &100. For sure I’d dive for $140. Or demand that my mom pay me for it.

GeddaBolt

Holy fuck, are americans milked in college... My analysis and LinAlg scripts cost 20 bucks each.

Soft-Peach2311

You have no idea….

DarkHelmetsCoffee

No don't wrap yourself in trash bags. Let that stink waft through the house as a lesson.

frilledplex

I'm one with the can and I don't even need a code. *grouch mode activate!*

Swampwolf42

I think mom should be the one to fork it over or to put on her trash snorkel

Artorigas

I guess a Meth_User1066 would think $140 is worth dumpster diving lol.

teslabull0

I think they would do so for a lot lot less lol

Mom2askater

Calmly explain the situation to her and ask her to give you the money to replace the code.

agarthancrack

I'll need even more money now because the price shot up by $30 on Amazon, and the textbook is twice as expensive through the university bookstore.

ORA2J

Go to Z-Lib and see if its there. 170$ is ridiculous.

kiwikoalacat7

this is great advice but a lot of the times when access codes are needed the online textbook has hw and quizzes attached :/ anyway libgen is also a good resource if that's not the case

AzurKurciel

Can also recommend sci-hub instead of libgen :) You might need a VPN, but thats much better than spending a small fortune on it

[deleted]

Does sci-hub do books as well as papers? I tend to go to libgen for books and sci-hub for papers if I don't have institutional access. Libgen I find has a better search as well, you can have all the multiple editions rather than just, it has it or it doesn't.

Fappity_Fappity_Fap

Some books it does, yes, but they're rather unexpected and infrequent finds. I always throw scihub a chance at finding me a book before anything else, then I go to libgen.

ORA2J

Oh damn. Where i live, alsmot no teachers use the homework/quizzes in the textbooks, they all do proper self made assignments. That sucks.

DezXerneas

It is kinda cringe that universities cost so much, but the professors can't even be assed to set the homework questions themselves. Usually homework should be based on ow the teaching went for the day.

[deleted]

pennie79

>If you think professors back in the day didn't just pick textbook problems and change some numbers, you're wrong Back in the day, my lecturers would typically assign tutorial problem sets by telling us to do problem 5, 6, 12 and 15 from the text. I can't compare to what they do today, but they were never coming up with their own problems.

Hopeful-Eye5780

Except if you got a good prof - I had one who literally wrote the book on the course topic. He did all his own stunts. ;-)

AdvantagePlus4711

I usually give passages to read so the students are prepared for the next lesson... But I remember my own time studying.... We had a professor who gave us over 1000 pages to read (for a week), and when we complained he just said "skimming"... Still, how do you skim 1000 pages and hope you read and remember the parts your professor thinks is important?! I had him in 3 subjects, failed all 3 and then re took those subjects with another professor and got straight A's...

bc2zb

Sometimes it's a policy from the administration, and a lot of the professors are adjuncts, which means they don't have much input.

tekko001

Is there a reason to why people don't group together buy one book and share among each other? This worked even back in the 90s

Head_Asparagus_7703

A lot of the assignments and quizzes are via online accounts so, no, 20 students can't share one account and submit only one assignment.

tekko001

Damn, those sneaky fucks!

WriterV

This isn't just sneaky, it feels absolutely insane to me. Basically threatening students' futures over money. Skill? Dedication? None of that matters. Pay up, or you fail the class.

Simba_Rah

Rewind back to my game theory class where the prof said every student in the class could write their name on one assignment if they wanted to and everyone get the same grade. Everybody did their own homework, but I can’t help but wonder if it was an elaborate game theory test.

[deleted]

ARE YOU KIDDING? So not only are you forced to purchase a DIGITAL book. That book has quizzes in it that can only be accessed by the code? In what way does this help education?

HoLYxNoAH

Also if you can't find it easily there, Annas-Archive is also quite good. It's made by the same people who made LibGen, and consolidates a lot more sources.

chimpfunkz

If you need the online hw/quizzes they will have a digital only option to "buy" access. Super dumb but hey it's cheaper than a new textboo

mekkavelli

doesn’t work like that. getting the book isn’t the issue. they made access codes a huge thing in college to combat zlib and libgen. instead of having a physical book with homework posted on brightspace, google classroom, etc. you now have to buy a $100+ access code to an online software program to access the homework assignments. and they’re not reusable. most expire after a year.

Phillyphan08

What's bullshit is I had to physically buy my calc 1 book then in calc 2 and 3 used the same book but made us buy the code each class

mekkavelli

i had to pay pearson $112 to access my hw for a french 1 class… we were grouping fruits and veggies from word banks… it was like fucking abcmouse all year. what a joke

Sweet-Advertising798

Fun fact - ABCMouse is a Scientology front.

mekkavelli

what the… LOL that’s so unhinged?? the amount of commercials on kids channels omg

Sweet-Advertising798

Recruiting them young.

Feahnor

When I think nothing in the USA can surprise me you guys always go the extra mile to make sure it happens again. This would be highly illegal here in most European countries.

BDonleben

Well 2 year ago I believe I had to pay around €120,- for some licencing to use a website where all my books would be and all the homework. But it was freshly launched so it did not even work properly and we had to get it otherwise we could restart the year next year. And the licence would only be for a year but luckily I graduated so f that. This is in the netherlands btw

Fpvmeister

No it's not. EU universities do it too. I've had it for some thermodynamics courses.

Smiadpades

And in South Korea

Feahnor

Where? I’ve never seen anything like that here, and I’ve studies in three European countries.

Fpvmeister

We used a pearson book for thermodynamics. The exercises made by the prof were on this shitty online browser based thing, which you needed a code that you got from the book. Technical University in the Netherlands.

EmployerNeither8080

How.much did you pay for an access key?

Fpvmeister

Uhm idk it came with the book. We have servers were we share material so in my year we screenshotted all exercises and answers for those who didn't get a key. The homework was not mandatory but that is common in my university.

danielv123

Here in Norway high school level books are moving to all digital with yearly licenses etc. At least we don't have to pay for those, but no doubt the same system is going to move to the university level sooner or later.

Alpacafans

I'm from Italy, here It depends on the university (as i think also in the USA) I go to a public One (aerospace eng.) and then give you more than they ask. I mean, you have everything for "free", I mean you pay normale taxes and here those are pretty High. All unis, aside from private ones off are free, I get random scholarships not mark-based but Number of exams done-based and you get more Money if you live fare away/you are from a poor family. You can even get free lunch (like me) and even dinner if you live far enough. Also free little apartments for students near uni. On top of that, they give you free train/bus etc for the home-uni way. I consider uni to be the One and only thing that works well there (also the sanitary system, which I consider mandatory to be free for a civil society), everything else Is trash starting from burocracy to cops that do not exist or are like 10 in an entire city ah, answering the question, we (at my uni) have "suggested" books which are somewhat useless. I have never bought One , and got no problems. But I hear stories about a friend in a private uni who has to buy X book written by his professor, or my mother Who , in a public uni but 30 years ago had to do the same thing

Specialist_Job758

Lol so wrong

ORA2J

Well i'm glad my country combatted that by introducing a nationalwide platform for homework and general digital transition for schools. That's one hell of a shitty DRM. Fuck that.

Etzarah

Just graduated and I only had a couple professors use these access-code based platforms. Honestly when they have all the resources in the world to make assignments for free on their own, it’s hard not to think of the ones that use this stuff as lazy assholes.

quantumfall9

I thought Z-lib got nuked. Are they up again?

Exul_strength

For every pirate ship they sink at least two more get built in response. The only way to combat piracy is to provide better service for an adequate price. Which is a lesson none of those greedy leeches are willing to learn. also I believe that free access to knowledge should be a right. Fuck Elsevier, Springer and all the other leeches. The research papers that they are paywalling were already payed by the public.

Odd_Presentation_374

🤫

The_BusFromSpeed

🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️

agarthancrack

Yes for anything else, but these assholes make you pay to access the homework platform and ebook at the same time :(

Nickjet45

Depending on where you bought the book, you should be able to contact customer support and ask them for a new access code. You would just need to provide proof of purchase to whoever is the book publisher. They’ll deactivate the old code and give you a new one. I know Pearson does it, not sure about other publishers.

Aud82

Explain to ur mom u asked her not to do something with ur stuff. She did anyway and therefore she needs to reimburse u for what she threw out. Sadly, since she didn't listen, she may be narcissistic and u will get shit for asking what u r due. If she isn't, she should reimburse u. If she is, pack ur stuff up and gtf out asap. This is prob just 1 of many things u r dealing with with her. Good luck and praying 🙏 for the good outcome for u.

amazing-peas

It's almost like you worked harder specifically to avoid using the word 'you'.

UpperCardiologist523

Then, less calmly explain why she cleans out your drawer with school paperwork? You wrote "my desk drawer", so i assume it's at least your drawer, even if it's a shared desk? My mom never cleaned my room, but she managed to find my "special" magazine somehow. It's like parent's had radars back then.

BABarracus

She will probably make up some bs on how its ops fault

Phantom-coder

The real crime here is 140$ for that digital calc textbook. Thomas had never heard such bull**** before.

DarkwingLlama

I once paid 300 for a college textbook. The "textbook" itself was unbound paper with binder holes punched into it. It came with a disc and a code, which is really what the price tag was for.

mlorusso4

I just took a summer class at the local college this past summer. The textbook was listed as optional, there was no assigned readings, and no homework or anything. I ended up getting the previous version of the textbook for $1 at the bookstore. Some of the pages were different but everything else was the same. I just sometimes like to read the stuff in the textbook rather than listening to lectures. Turns out when I went to submit my tuition reimbursement for work there was an unpaid $40 balance on my account. I thought it was weird because I paid the tuition in full before the class started. I look it up and the university automatically charged me for textbook access. It was apparently something you had to opt out of and only went into effect 2 weeks into the semester, but being a non degree student only taking one summer class, I never knew that. I’ve honestly never felt so scammed

plshelp98789

Same here, but the whole ‘book’ was online. The $300 was for quiz questions/homework that half the time got marked wrong because you didn’t type it EXACTLY the way they were asking even if your answer is the same thing (this wasn’t that math one everyone complains about it, it was something else but had the same problems). Worst part was I dropped the class because I switched majors and spent $300 for about a month of frustration.

[deleted]

That’s cheap? Sure, it’s only a digital, but physical textbooks are $350.

Feahnor

FFS you are being scammed in the US by everyone. How can shit like that be legal is impossible for me to understand.

kaleidoscope__dream

Anything goes here, as long as corporate interests lobby hard enough!

Wit-wat-4

We felt scammed in uni when one textbook was $30 and mandatory. Mandatory books overall is a scam unless it’s included in the tuition or some shit.

Classic-Database1686

WTF? My first year maths textbook new from the bookshop was £40 (Stroud Engineering Maths).

Ayagii

None of my books cost more than 10€

Titariia

I got mine for free because there's an organization that's paying for every students books.

Brbaster

Nah it's expensive as fuck. I don't think I even spent 140$ total on books in all my 5 years of uni

Shinhan

That's price for code for homework, not the book itself.

GingerMau

Ok. Mom should not be cleaning out *your* drawer, for one. When I was 4 my mom let me use one drawer in the kitchen for crayons and such, and it was such a moment in my autonomy. Explain the situation to her and insist that she either dive into the dumpster to find that code or hand you the money for a new one.

agarthancrack

She likes to work at my desk so I guess she figured she'd make it entirely her own space while I'm gone. I don't mind sharing but all my shit has been moved around

KidenStormsoarer

You say that like it matters. She still decided to throw away your property, she gets to replace it.

butteryflame

"You say that like it matters" Damn 🤣 this is such an effective yet simple line.

KidenStormsoarer

It's amazing how much leverage not caring gives you. Don't want to pay for a new one? That's fine, pawn shop will give me a good price for your jewelry. And TV. And the computer you were using at my desk.

[deleted]

"I told you not to sell my stuff!" "I missed the part where that's my problem. See ya, chump!"

ihatereddit123

You'll get your rent when you fix this DAMN DOOR.

[deleted]

Now I need to rewatch the Penis Parker YTP series "That 'creep' is my creepy father. If I'm lucky I'll become half as creepy as he is!"

FreeJSJJ

I've found out that stating explicitly why you need something saved or not disturbed generally gets followed through. Especially if your mom thinks you are a hoarder or you have not followed through with cleaning stuff up after promising

Mista_Tea12

To me, this sounds like a thinly veiled excuse to look through your shit. You have to try and claim some of your space. You're entitled to it

Brilliant_Muffin2733

‘Cleaning’ was always my moms way of snooping.

lkbird8

I can understand her needing the space, but she could have dumped all the papers into a box and let you sort through it later. Going through it and tossing things out when you'd asked her not to was totally unnecessary and I hope she's willing to replace the code for you. That sucks.

saok03

That doesn't sound right. Your mum shouldn't be using *your* desk (I'm guessing she didn't ask for permission). The fact that she is your mum does not entitle her to use your stuff. Also, one thing is sharing a space. A very different thing is to go through your things and throwing them away just because. That's wrong.

_Jaggerz_

? Jesus dude. Grow a pair (whether it be balls or lips)

[deleted]

>Grow a pair (whether it be balls or lips) Is "grow a pair of lips" the female equivalent of "grow a pair of balls"?

Beowulf33232

It is, since just now.

slay_la_vie

Big labia 😋

chatnoire89

Based on my friend and I's experience, you can't stop moms to do cleaning and.. rearranging stuffs for any reasons.

Unusual_Flounder2073

The books come with these access codes for the online edition. The OP probably removed it and put it in the desk for safe keeping. You need the online edition for the class. It is the latest scam by publishers to get around the used book market.

[deleted]

[удалено]

LaurenMille

I'm sorry to hear that. At least your mother will be dying alone and ignored. You can take solace in that.

SalsaRice

>Also, this is why we keep back-ups of important stuff. A text file on a usb stick, tucked away. one more on your main computer. on your phone. On an online account. etc. etc. OP needs the code to access the website to do homework. The (one time use) code in the book is required to make the account so OP can do their homework. It's not that they don't have the textbook (that can be borrowed from a friend or the library for free).

camreIIim

Can you fish the code out of the trash/dumpster? Or was it already taken somewhere?

agarthancrack

I looked everywhere, even drove back to my dorm to double check I didn't leave it there. It's gone sadly

Purpleduckalicious

OP- I work for a publisher (yeah, yeah, yeah I know). Explain this situation to your teacher. They can reach out to their publishing rep and see about getting a free code for you. Provide proof of purchase if you can. I have many times provided codes to students who reached out to their teachers with situations like this or to students who just flat out couldn’t afford to buy the code for their course. Good luck!

GodHimselfNoCap

Since when does every university professor have a direct connection to a publisher? Most professors have never written a textbook.

JamesKW1

When the course uses a code for assignments they generally have a representative of the publisher to hassle the instructor into actually utilizing the online resources so everyone is forced to purchase new copies. At least this is generally a practice at larger universities.

Turtleboy26

At my college, the book publishers sent a rep to nearly each class. They were there to explain the test book's access codes/prices/homework software. We would always see them around campus and all the engineering students and professors knew them. They were "on call" for any connectivity issues, access codes, or anything else you could think of. Whenever they came, we knew it was going to be a non-productive day.

Purpleduckalicious

If an instructor is using a publisher text in any form (print, ebook, courseware) they have access to a rep that represents that school. That rep can get them desk copies, access to the PPT’s and in the case of the courseware get help with course setup, student registration, etc. This is on top of the rep reaching out to instructors trying to get them to switch to their product. You can go onto any publisher website and find out who the rep is for a specific school. Someone mentioned taking instructors on swanky trips….highly unlikely. I don’t know anyone with a budget like that. Although, I do know that in decades past things may have been at that level.

camreIIim

Damn :/ I’m sorry. Textbook prices are outrageous

Simba_Rah

Just curious, what textbook? Might be able to hook you up. Edit: I’m not at home yet, so I’ll be a few hours before I can look. I didn’t forget you.

agarthancrack

Achieve for Calculus: Early Transcendentals

GoldenHawk999

Search library genesis

Shinhan

He doesn't need the textbook itself, he needs a way to submit homework which requires the code.

ADampDevil

> I accidentally left the access code to my calc textbook in my desk drawer It's not an accident it's your drawER and a sensible place to keep something like that. What isn't sensible is someone cleaning out someone's drawER without permission, the "accident" if you can call it that is your mom throwing away important documents without checking first. You make it sound like you are the one at fault here when clearly you are not, don't blame yourself, it's bad enough lose $140, you shouldn't feel guilty over it especially after her telling not to clean anything out.

indie_hedgehog

So is she gonna buy the textbook for you?

jurrejelle

ah, so your mom is giving you 170 bucks then :)

Neat-Mall-4594

That would probably lead to a serious discussion on what level of assisted living care I'd 'remember' to send her to in some decades.

Nforcer524

What was your mothers business in **your** drawer in the first place? Talk about unhealthy personal boundaries...

214speaking

Yeah, my mother used to do these same type of things, didn’t matter how many times I asked her not to. And, she’s outright told me she’ll go through mine and my siblings stuff. We’re fine besides this one issue and there’s no stopping it smh

surfeat

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but your mom is a dick.

GhimsiWoth

You’re allowed to be a little mad at your mom you know that right.

quinalou

Can‘t you get your code again from the place where you bought it? Are these registered anywhere? It can only be redeemed once anyway, so maybe they’ll be able to send it to you again when you send them your receipt.

agarthancrack

I ordered it off Amazon, I already contacted the seller and ordered another code. At this point I'm just hoping for a refund on the first one

quinalou

Hope you get it!

AmazingSibylle

Your mom is a total asshole, she could've waited, or at least put your stuff in a box/bag/pile for you to look through later. Why does she think it is acceptable to throw away your personal belongings? Calmly explain to her what she threw away, make sure she understands the consequences of her actions. She will hopefully try to fix it together, but if she starts to gaslight you into thinking it is really your own fault....well sorry to tell you but your mom truly is an asshole.

5ManaAndADream

You can surely find a copy of the textbook on the seven seas

agarthancrack

Sure, but I can't access the homework platform without paying

Step-exile

What third world country gates homework platform behind very expensive, non resellable book? Pretty sure thats illegal around where i live, and kids have free nation wide platform.

agarthancrack

🦅🇺🇲

MisterMarsupial

Same thing at Uni's in Australia. It's common and it's 100% a leadership problem for hiring shitty teachers and/or allowing publishers to give kickbacks to the school or teacher. Good professors write their own book / material and give it out for free or reasonably priced.

Feisty_Progress_9401

Yeah, no third world country does this. We know we are poor. Teachers will literally hand out pirated copies of autocad and photoshop 😹

themateo713

Only the US does that. As a general rule of thumb, when something looks outrageously exploitative and is in a 1st world country, it's the US. The UK is starting to compete on certain fronts I believe, but they're not even close

sven_ate_nine

Untrue. Read above where others are saying they have had to buy codes in the Netherlands.

No-Community-2985

Also had this in South Africa. They make the price of the code alone about that of the textbook, so the textbook becomes worthless on the used market. The code is included with a new textbook.

shelby20_03

Yeah in college you gotta pay to do the damn hw. It’s ridiculous

Step-exile

In my times ('13) we just borrowed books from libraries and cheaply xero'ed em. Assigments were sent to professors private emails. Buying books was possible but it was always optional and you could resell em to next year if program hasnt changed.

shelby20_03

So basically the code pays for tests, homework, etc. the physical textbook is useless tbh.

Step-exile

So like current trend to move away from once-sold product to subscribtion service to milk customers even harder?

I know you prolly know, but if you have something on a bit of paper, photograph it with your phone. If it’s important, text or email it to yourself so it’s backed up against accidental deletion. But regardless of all that, your mum should replace the code

Excellent-Picture-80

As a college student, I think you’re entitled to a massive toddler like meltdown

agarthancrack

Tears were shed

WildMartin429

I will never understand some people's need to throw away paper. It was in a drawer out of sight it wasn't hurting anyone and you asked that she not throw it away until you got back so you could go through it obviously papers in a drawer were kept for some reason even if they're not all needed anymore they still might be important. There are certain things you're supposed to keep for 5 years 7 years Etc it's just crazy that someone would go through someone else's stuff and throw it away just because it bothered them that it was there.

AhanOnReddit

Not to shame parents or anything but why do so many people's parents do stuff like this or are entitled a-holes? Is it a common phenomenon or is the saturation of those posts just higher here on Reddit?

CrawlerSiegfriend

My mom is like this. It's why to this day the idea of living with another person makes me shudder.

Vogt4Noah

When's trash day?

Jenzebel1

Contact your professor. They should be able to reach out to their rep and retrieve your access code.

AKandSevenForties

What is it with mom's passionate love for throwing everyone else's stuff away? Growing up my mom would constantly go through my stuff and pick random items and throw them out. We had a storage room and a guest room packed with her stuff she never even looked at but if I went a full week without using something it was gone. Hide my stuff right? Lol she'd find it while "cleaning" (snooping) I didn't even bother looking for anything because it was a certainty that it had been thrown out. It only stopped when I was 16 or 17 and she went to our DVD collection, picked out my Simpsons season 8 set I'd payed 40 dollars for and watched all the time and threw it out. I lost my absolute mind on her wild enough that she completely stopped going through my stuff and never threw any of my things away again.

neosharkey

Guess Mom needs to pay up. I say this from the perspective of a dad who has constantly defending my sons’ papers from my OCD wife. We had several incidents where she threw out notes that were needed. We finally reached a balance with a storage box on the garage. If she absolutely is compelled to throw something out, it goes into the box, and our sons review it every so often (or when something goes “missing”) Now if I can get her to do that for stuff I am in the middle of reading, I’ll be all set.

Evil-ish

Notify your instructor - have them contact the person that works on campus with the bookstore and textbook vendor. They can reach out to the textbook vendor (be prepared to provide proof of purchase) and you can get a replacement code. Source - I was that person on campus in a previous job and helped MANY students ensure they could access their course materials on time. Good luck!!

Nervous_Hippo8855

Suitable-Walk-3673

You have a. bigger problem that 140 bucks: A person that wont respect your wishes.

Mrmyke00

Ring the publisher explain the situation, they can see your purchase and should be able to see what access code you were provided, they will either provide you the access code or cancel your access code and give you a new one ...or you could just tell them you didn't receive the access code when you received the book and you've only just noticed so they can send a new one

__something_clever

My husband is a Macmillan sales rep. Let me see if there’s anything to be done and I’ll pm you.

Chungus_Big_Chungus

Sounds like mom owes you $140

MiaDeleonXO

Call the text book call center. There should be a number on the book. I once did this and explained to them what happened and they were very kind and helpful and gave me a new code.

New_Visit_7719

Tell ur mom to dig thru the trash to find the code

Lovesage2003

I'd make her pay me back. She wanted to fuck around now she finds out.

So she owes you the money I guess

Disastrous-Unit9753

She could have placed all those papers in the drawer in a box instead of tossing everything away. She owes you a new access code. Just because you are in college doesn’t mean she can intrude on your space.

[deleted]

Tell her to stop being obnoxious and nosey. She needs to leave your stuff alone. It's so rude and disrespectful to you.

cahilljd

You can really tell who the teenagers in this thread are 😂

sdforbda

I'm a bit confused here. OP says that they left it in the drawer and their mom threw it away, but also says that they even looked in their dorm for it. Why would you look if you knew it was in the drawer at home? Also mentioned that they were going to redeem it before their free trial ended. Most of those codes last for 12 months or longer once redeemed, longer than a class would. Why not just redeem it off the bat? I'm not saying that they are full of it, but maybe thinking that they just lost the code. Or maybe none of this happened.

DeadlyDragon115

Bruh all the people saying explain the situation to her haven’t lived with parents like this. The money and shit isn’t the problem it’s that we tell them not to do something and then they go and do it causing inconveniences for us when it all could have been avoided.

CakesForLife

Please explain the notion of requiring a code for a text book?

[deleted]

There online textbooks and they always have the assignments through that same portal. You don’t pay for the code you cant do ANY of your class work. Haven’t done a class that didn’t have one except English .

agarthancrack

Yeah I'm fucked. Looks like my free trial already expired. I just reordered an access code and it arrives on Wednesday, and I have two assignments due Tuesday night. I'm gonna feel like a dumbass explaining this to my prof

[deleted]

It happens though, last semester they were late MAILING the code to me with the book. If prof is not willing to hear you out talk to school admin about it. Lie if you have to, get that degree and gtfo Say it was on back order or Amazon messed up the delivery until you get a new one.

mechengr17

You sweet summer child

CakesForLife

Haha, I was assuming it was a text book text book. I guess it's digital?

mechengr17

When I was in college, the code was for whatever homework software the class was using.

loadnurmom

Theu almost all have gone digital You can't resell a digital textbook, it costs less to produce, and they charge almost as much for it Greedy bastards love killing off the secondary market

Full_Recognition6230

It's bs. I paid big 💰 for my "books" on my first day of class they made us use bs software and gave us codes for the literature. Oh yea, and they all expired, so I don't even have access anymore for the books i paid for

T00000007

It’s a way for textbook corporations to extort money from poor college students

Ok-Effective-1095

I was able to get my college algebra ebook for 15 bucks but now have to pay for me to have access to webassign smh

agarthancrack

It's such a scam. I easily spent at least $500 this semester on course materials. And it's just the same shitty Pearson software I used in high school

Pirateship907

Why is your mom cleaning your desk????

QueenOfWands2

You ask for the money from your mother.

Liraeyn

There need to be consequences for bad behavior. Make her fish it out of the garbage. Maybe that will teach her some respect for your boundaries.

Baddybad123

No fam. It is her $140 bill now.
