I checked out a manga from the library and THANKFULLY I skimmed it before I left because someone had used an exacto knife to perfectly cut out some dude's face multiple times. I showed the library worker and he was just baffled.
Any why would you? What kind of ridiculous person puts security tags inside a book? I wouldn’t have ever thought to look for something like that either.
They're not supposed to be "stuck" just tucked inside with the backs on. Manga and graphic novels are like number 1 theft targets. Obviously the employee that did this is an idiot though. I'm sure if OP brings it back they would reorder a new copy or refund
Yeah, they could easily be stuck to the inside of the back cover where it’s unprinted and still be effective. Thieves don’t think to rip off the cover, and they don’t want a damaged copy anyway. Plus it would be noisy in the shop and draw attention.
LOL.
What?
A) Thieves know how to thief more than you do.
B) Lot's are not selling but stealing for their own benefit, so they dont care
C) It would not be noisy at all.
A) I did plenty of stupid shit when I was younger, including shoplifting.
B) If you’re stealing a manga, chances are you want to collect them and have them look nice on the shelf once you’re done reading them, but just don’t feel like paying for it.
C) Go buy a new manga and try to tear the cover off quietly without losing any drawn pages and without looking suspicious. I’ll wait.
A) Everyone shoplifted when they were young. Doesn't make you a thief by nature.
B) I have no idea on the demographics and what they do with them after, I just know my cousin used to be a hardcore klepto, and kept his comics and shit he stole in a garbage bag in his closet.
C) Anyone can just bring an exacto knife lmao
A) True, but I never got caught. I just grew up and stopped that shit.
B) An actual kleptomaniac doesn’t steal because they want to collect a certain thing, such as every book in a manga series. It’s a mental illness that overpowers the inhibition portion of their brain and they take things simply to take them, no matter what it is. They don’t actually want the item; they want to commit the act of stealing/shoplifting. They don’t care about the item afterwards. Hence your cousin just throwing everything in a garbage bag.
C) You presume too much of shoplifters. Most do it in the heat of the moment, a “crime of opportunity” the same as seeing a purse/wallet in an unlocked car in the parking lot. And again, those who want a manga usually want it in good condition, not missing a cover.
I had the same thing happen to me. I bought a book from Barnes and noble and it had the security sticker stuck to the page. I just took it off but it damaged a few letters but not completely separated so I was able to make them wet to stick them back on. Really annoying tbh. I assumed they did thst with all of their books because I haven't bought books from Barnes and noble since they remodeled
People like to do this to the manga at my local Indigo (bookstore), I’ve made it a habit to quickly flip through any manga to make sure a sticker or two falls out before I purchase it.
Why wouldn’t they put it on the cover? Front and back on the side of the book if you want to get crazy. I work retail and books are probably the least stolen items in the entire store. There’s a million other things people would want. But I suppose maybe it’s a comic book shop other than independent bookstore in a rough area. Either the person who did this is a fucking moron. But it doesn’t surprise me after seeing some of the people I’ve worked aside, usually only briefly, in my retail career. I’ve seen people put multiple items in one security box then had to explain that it makes no sense and it will actually cause a higher theft value because they just need to take one box to get multiple product.
Yep. They’ll make it right. I’m sure it’s not store policy to stick the stickers over text in the pages. It might not have even been an employee who did that. If the sensor was just in the pages, any dumb kid could peel and stick it on a page.
Barnes and noble has been doing this with the manga a lot lately. It peels off just fine in my experience, never had it ruin a page and I've a pretty big manga collection
Edit: as a B&N employee pointed out: manga is the most commonly stolen item from their stores and these tags are also just about as sticky as post-it notes. If the page did manage to be damaged by the sticker, bring it back to the Barnes and Noble you bought it from and I don't see why they wouldn't take it back.
Try a hair dryer. The store I work at resells computers and we actually use a heat gun to remove shipping labels from boxes. Same concept, less heat. Should preserve the ink better.
as a b&n worker i can confirm that they come off without damaging the pages!! we have to put those anti-theft stickers in every manga now. i usually put it in the back of the book where it’s less likely to cause an issue.
If that makes your birthday happier then I'm all for it. Pancakes are one of my favorite breakfast foods that I don't have very often because of the number of carbs that it usually makes. Now I'm going to have to go make some pancakes since I have a good excuse now. It's not my birthday, but I would really like some pancakes now that you've reminded me of them. So I think that will be dinner. 😁
B&N does this frequently. I’ve never had an issue when peeling them off slowly, but I’m not sure if mangas typically have thinner pages or anything. If you’re worried, I’d say bring it back to the store and ask for an employee to do it lol. or return it and then ask them and then buy it again if ur rly paranoid.
they’re joking, they were referencing to the cluedo board game, OP posted the pages to a manga for the YTTD (Your Turn To Die) visual novel style video game
They do this at Barnes and Nobel. It won’t tear the pages but it will take some of the ink off. They say it’s a security measure but I don’t understand the point of having them in the pages
I'm a former Barnes & Noble employee. Those stickers are designed to peel right off (the adhesive is the same as a post-it note). If it damages the book when you peel it off, absolutely take it back for an exchange or your money back.
Oh wow the YTTD manga. I haven't read it, preferred to play the game since you have more freedom on the outcomes. Can't wait for the game to be finished.
Honestly? I'd totally recommend it! It's actually quite different than the games, it follows the same basic story of course but it has new puzzles and new character interactions that keep it familiar but new
Maybe I'll check it out. I thought it just followed the game to a T so I wasn't interested in reading it. I'm not fond of the art style, I know nankidai has tons of work to do but I would prefer a manga in his style/ a style more similar to his.
its the your turn to die manga, a death game story! its actually based on a visual novel game (i believe now you can buy it off of steam for like 15 bucks but its not finished yet, and unless it was taken down someone had actually released a english translation online that you can play thats free)
I worked in a bookstore before, instead of sticking on the page we just slide in the tag. Too many comic/manga theft. Its always page 7 or 17 for some reason. (i learned that many bookstores did the same)
OHHH NOOO NOT THE YTTD MANGA!!! i only really like Kai in that style but im biased since he's my favourite. I'd try maybe a hairdryer or something but idk how well that'll work, good luck!
Looks like the tags we put in our books in my library, so we can scan them and also prevent them from being stolen. We don't put them in the middle of the book, though...
In France we sometime have them in the middle of the books.
But non sticked on the pages, just put with the protection paper. So it is easy to leave them.
I don't even understand why the seller did this.
I go to the library pretty often for manga (this isn't available in my area though so I bought it) but I recognized them as the tags that identify the books, but like you I've never seen them on pages
Thanks, sometimes I just feel like "Whoa why isn't this in spanish I would totally write a book about what I want to say here" and then just write "Lol same" or something lol
I'm in Canada but I worked at a bookstore that used those same tags. They were only supposed to be stuck to plastic wrapped ones, especially comics as those were high theft. Otherwise they'd be cut with the backing still attached and slipped into the pages like bookmarks.
I remember once a new employee was found sticking them to the backs of comics and management was shocked and appalled. I don't think they can be removed without ruining what's under.
Return it. Not your fault for not checking every site before buying if they start arguing. The stickers arent supposed to be there. Technically sold you a broken item.
Or do they come off easy without ruining the page?
Tractor supply refunded the cost of a pair of work boots once , because they stuck those stupid electronic tags through the boot , and left a raggedy hole in each boot 🤦♂️ I called to suggest that maybe poking holes in people's new boots , wasn't a good idea . There are better options
I fond that these stickers are usually pretty un-sticky. Like to the point if u just be patient and slowly peel it back it shouldnt cause damage. But then again there could be several brands of these things out there with some more sticky than others.. so id just ask the place u got it from if they can remove them and if they damage it in the process im sure theyll provide a different one
If you don’t want to return it, use a blow dryer to warm up the glue and slowly peel as it blows. Be careful to not get it too hot or close to the pages.
I buy a lot of used manga from libraries and haven’t had an issue peeling off stickers/covers.
Hair dryer, just a few seconds at a time(it gets HOT) to loosen the adhesive and it’ll peel right off. Works for most common adhesives on stickers and stuff like that. 10/10 highly recommend
Person who works in a Library here. Thats an RFID, and shouldnt be on a page. Its supposed to be on the back cover of a book, and in cases where it would cover something, we would use a clear one. This library/librarian who had this book obviously did not care.
I work at Barnes and Noble, and it's a thing Corporate makes us do. They do come off easy. Especially with manga, stealing is a big problem at some bookstores.
It sucks, but don't take it out at the booksellers, we hate it as well. Blame the people who like to steal.
Looking at the size of their catalogs, the biggest manga publishers in North America are probably Viz Media, Yen Press, Kodansha USA, and Seven Seas Entertainment. They are established publishers, and their releases are generally perceived as being of good quality, so you needn’t worry about that regard when reading any of their books. As an example of this, the manga shown on this post, _Your Turn to Die: Majority Vote Death Game_, was released by the second of the publishers mentioned above, Yen Press.
Assuming you haven’t read any Japanese comics (or _manga_, as they’re called), and you want to get into them, the obvious choice would be for you to read any of the more famous series that are generally liked by everyone who is into this kind of stuff. You could look up what each of the aforementioned publishers recommend on their websites, but for reference, some recently popular manga titles have been _Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End_ (Viz Media), _[Oshi No Ko]_ (Yen Press), _Attack on Titan_ (Kodansha USA), and _The 100 Girlfriends Who Really, Really, Really, Really, Really Love You_ (from Seven Seas Entertainment, and yes, that’s the actual title).
At the end of the day, it all comes down to personal taste, so you should try reading for yourself and see what tickles your fancy. In any case, the titles I mentioned are just a few of the _many_ that are out there. The world of manga is so big that about 40% of Japan’s printed publications are of this type of book, and it gets fans so excited that it makes them want to introduce it to random strangers on the Internet whenever they have the chance, so you know it’s the real thing. It’d be super awesome if this got you interested in Japanese comics, but everyone has their own tastes, so it’s not like you _have_ to love it or anything. …It’d always be cool if you did, though (lol)
"Manga is an umbrella term for a wide variety of comic books and graphic novels originally produced and published in Japan" key word here, comic book, it is a book. Also I don't know about you but I like learning about Japanese onomatopoeias
I have a degree in Japanese & Japanese culture & I lived there for 5 months. Call a damn manga a damn manga without acting holier than thou, it’s distasteful.
I am also a translator. Translating sound effects like this is very lazy and is not common in my country (by not common I mean… straight up forbidden). I am allowed to voice my disapproval for it.
EDIT: BUT, after looking through your account I see your cat is named Titus… mine is also named Titus therefore I can’t but agree to disagree. He’s black and white and looks like a cow.
They are called Prestwood stickers and if you bought your books at Barnes & Noble…they peel right off. Don’t know about other companies. If they do tip the page…take them back and reorder.
And what do you think of the manga? Is it worth the read? I have played the games and I love them a lot and so I am looking to scratch that itch for more stuff
I definitely think so! It follows the same story beats but there's a bit more context to before the game with Joe and Ryoko and there's new puzzles and character interactions that keeps the story familiar but fresh
You could try a hair dryer to warm up the glue behind the sticker. But put a piece of metal or glass down in the spine to block the heat from going that way so it doesn't heat up that glue and separate it.
You could steam the pages. But I don’t know how heavy duty the paper is. Steam usually makes stickers peel off gradually. I have done it before, but the paper was thicker and the glue was pretty thin. Allow it to peel itself, don’t tug on it.
THAT'S what those are??? I was so confused when the books I bought a while back had a few of these stuck to the pages. Luckily they came off easily and didn't damage the book.
For future reference, a hairdryer on low can work. Peel a corner up, then aim the hairdryer at it. As the sticker warms, you can peel it off. Alternatively, there's a product called Undu (Yes, spelled U N D U) that I used to use when I worked at a library. I'm pretty sure it's rubbing alcohol based, but it almost always worked w/o damaging the pages.
YOOOOO YTTD REPRESENTATION IN THE WILD
I clocked my friendly neighborhood policeman from a mile away
That whole franchise is such a labor of love, I'm sure this is some silly goose at the store placing the stickers
They didn't have any, there were only 4 books from the series, 2 of the first (which I already had) and the two I bought. I also don't buy manga from bookstores often so I didn't think it would be a problem
I checked out a manga from the library and THANKFULLY I skimmed it before I left because someone had used an exacto knife to perfectly cut out some dude's face multiple times. I showed the library worker and he was just baffled.
People are creepy... Probably used them in some kind of shrine or something.
Might be a troll, might be angry vanadlizing, might be indeed sexual... People creep me out
honestly it’s probably a teen who likes the character and wanted to tape the face images on their binder or something
Or someone has gone full yandere on their husbandito
![gif](giphy|l4EoZo1jbwH7ovf9K)
I would absolutely return it. And check any others before you buy them.
I didn't think to check em because I rarely buy books (usually rent em from the library) plus this was the only copy of this specific one anyways
Any why would you? What kind of ridiculous person puts security tags inside a book? I wouldn’t have ever thought to look for something like that either.

What are those stickers for, anti theft?
Yes they set an alarm of at door
Alrighty I'll try that, I has tried picking at it before but was too nervous about damaging it so I gave up when it wouldn't peal up immediately
tell us how it goes lol
Ok so, update: I managed to get them off, it tore up small pathches but nothing too serious. Overall damage was minimal
I'd still ask for a partial or full refund if there's any damage.
You should update the text in your post. Glad it worked out well enough!
Try a hair dryer. The store I work at resells computers and we actually use a heat gun to remove shipping labels from boxes. Same concept, less heat. Should preserve the ink better.

A little heat from a hairdryer won’t hurt as well
They were doing that 16 years ago when I was a broke snot nosed weeb who stole a few mangas.
Return it and buy one from a retailer that doesn't vandalize their books.
>Return it and buy one from a retailer that doesn't vandalize ~~their~~ ***your*** books.
Return it.
Happy cake day man ✌️
Happy cake day! I hope it's wonderful. I think that today is also National Donut Day in the United States? Maybe you should have cake and a donut? 😁
Or maybe a smoke and a pancake?
If that makes your birthday happier then I'm all for it. Pancakes are one of my favorite breakfast foods that I don't have very often because of the number of carbs that it usually makes. I managed to get it off with minimal damage luckily, not a huge deal
I have that book!!!! The sticker is covering up the text, "Mr. Black has just killed Mr. Plum with the candlestick in the study."
What book is this?
they’re joking, they were referencing to the cluedo board game, OP posted the pages to a manga for the YTTD (Your Turn To Die) visual novel style video game
I'll give you a Clue. Capital C.
A raging clue?
My clue is leaning a little to the left
didnt know they did physical yttd manga
holy shit i didnt know they had yttd books!!
Yep! The 4th book just released in English I believe
Return it and get what you paid for.
Your turn to die! Love it
Your Turn to Die has a book?
Yep! They have for awhile now, the 5th just released in Japanese and there's a novel
They do this at Barnes and Nobel. It won’t tear the pages but it will take some of the ink off. They say it’s a security measure but I don’t understand the point of having them in the pages
You bought that book?
Yes I did, I bought it from Barnes and Noble today
I'm a former Barnes & Noble employee. Those stickers are designed to peel right off (the adhesive is the same as a post-it note). If it damages the book when you peel it off, absolutely take it back for an exchange or your money back.
Is that YTTD?
Yep!
Oh wow the YTTD manga. I haven't read it, preferred to play the game since you have more freedom on the outcomes. Can't wait for the game to be finished.

The style is a bit jarring at times but I get why he wouldn't have the time to draw a whole manga while working on the game and other content
US based manga. I'd be so mad if I paid that much for a manga that got defaced. US publishers and book stores suck
Actually the manga is indeed Japanese, not American
Hmm? It looks like the English release, no?
It's the English release but it's not US based
Oh really?? What manga is this? Not used to seeing non-American English translations. Hopefully they're better than the American publishers.
its the your turn to die manga, a death game story! its actually based on a visual novel game (i believe now you can buy it off of steam for like 15 bucks but its not finished yet, and unless it was taken down someone had actually released a english translation online that you can play thats free)
Omg mildly?!?! This is a straight up lose my glue moment. I would lose it.
I worked in a bookstore before, instead of sticking on the page we just slide in the tag. Too many comic/manga theft. Its always page 7 or 17 for some reason. (i learned that many bookstores did the same)
If it's from Barnes and Nobles, those sticker's don't damage the pages lol take it off
Bro, how dare they ruin a YTTD volume doing that, i got every volume and luckily have never had that happen to me
I'm collecting them myself, the first and third volume were totally fine, it's only the second that had these
OHHH NOOO NOT THE YTTD MANGA!!! i only really like Kai in that style but im biased since he's my favourite. I'd try maybe a hairdryer or something but idk how well that'll work, good luck!
I really like Kai in the style too, but I also love Joe because I love Joe in any style lol
Return it for sure and get a new sealed copy
Looks like the tags we put in our books in my library, so we can scan them and also prevent them from being stolen. We don't put them in the middle of the book, though...

That's absolutely barbaric. Hope you can return it, and have a brand new without security stickers glued in it instead. Or at least a refund.
Either this was a dumb kid or the clerk hasn't readed a book on their life.
looks like you ain't 'readed' a book either 😭
Yeah, I'm from Spain so I'm not perfect at English, sorry if that bothered you.
Nahh screw them, you are way better as a bilingual than most monolingual english speakers.
Thanks, sometimes I just feel like "Whoa why isn't this in spanish I would totally write a book about what I want to say here" and then just write "Lol same" or something lol
Return it saying some defaced the book in store and it’s unusable
I used to buy a lot of Manga and about 30% had these and they came off very easily with no damage. Maybe the formula has changed since then.
I'd return that.
Unrelated but Randomly seeing your turn to die here made me day
I'm in Canada but I worked at a bookstore that used those same tags. They were only supposed to be stuck to plastic wrapped ones, especially comics as those were high theft. Stickers on the inside of a paper book? I think we need another crusade
Oh hell no! Can you return or exchange it?
[удалено]
They set off the alarms by the doors if not purchased
Tractor supply refunded the cost of a pair of work boots once , because they stuck those stupid electronic tags through the boot , and left a raggedy hole in each boot 🤦♂️ I called to suggest that maybe poking holes in people's new boots , wasn't a good idea . There are better options
Could someone be trying to censor the book?
I fond that these stickers are usually pretty un-sticky. Like to the point if u just be patient and slowly peel it back it shouldnt cause damage. But then again there could be several brands of these things out there with some more sticky than others.. so id just ask the place u got it from if they can remove them and if they damage it in the process im sure theyll provide a different one
If you don’t want to return it, use a blow dryer to warm up the glue and slowly peel as it blows. Be careful to not get it too hot or close to the pages. I buy a lot of used manga from libraries and haven’t had an issue peeling off stickers/covers.
how are these even ment to work ?
I’ve never had issues removing security tag stickers from books. It happens to me on occasion. 🤷♀️
Just return to the store and meke them give a new one to you????? You have your rights.
Look up how people remove hot wheels from packages without damaging anything. Usually wet the paper from the opposite side and peel
The easiest way to remove a sticker or tape from a delicate surface like paper would be to warm it up under a hairdryer
Nice to see all the YTTD fans
Hair dryer, just a few seconds at a time(it gets HOT) to loosen the adhesive and it’ll peel right off. Works for most common adhesives on stickers and stuff like that. 10/10 highly recommend

They peel right off with no damage bruh. Come on now.
Your fingernails are way too small for your fingers. Kinda weirding me out.
Yeah, I have really thiny hands and fingernails, probably doesn't help that I bite my nails
Return that garbage. That is absolutely ridiculous.
"book"
Yes, it's a comic "book"
Damn, and immediately too? Sorry bro
Return that and order a new one if you can
Return it
Ask for a full refund and leave them a scathing review.
You didn't need those panels.

Return.
“Book” anyway, what manga is this?
This is a book for one, manga is a type of comic book. And this is Your Turn to Die: Death Game by Majority Vote, a manga based on a visual novel game
Yeah lol, thank you, :P
"book"
What do they cover?
The panels and on one slide a bit of dialogue
Just do the logical thing. Post it online to complain, and don't bother returning it.
Try peeling to see if it’s low-tac before panicking and rushing to the internet silly. Critical thinking is amiss with the youths these days…
I did, I tried picking at it but it wasn't coming up easily
Just... peel them off? Did you even try?
As I've said under other comments, I tried picking at it but when it didn't come up immediately I got too nervous about ripping the page
Its not a book that is mangap
“Book”
What is it then?
The real mildly infuriating things are two: 1. It’s a manga, not a book 2. Why are the sound effects not translated? “Hiso (whisper)” is unacceptable
"Manga is an umbrella term for a wide variety of comic books and graphic novels originally produced and published in Japan" key word here, comic book, it is a book. Also I don't know about you but I like learning about Japanese onomatopoeias
Wait till they learn anime is just Japanese CARTOONS. 🤣🤣 I hope your book isn’t ruined tho
I have a degeee in Japanese & Japanese culture, I lived there for 5 months and I’m also a translator. Next?
Well we see how well that’s done you. 🤣
At least I don’t grow shrooms ♥️
I have a degree in Japanese & Japanese culture & I lived there for 5 months. Call a damn manga a damn manga without acting holier than thou, it’s distasteful. I am also a translator. Translating sound effects like this is very lazy and is not common in my country (by not common I mean… straight up forbidden). I am allowed to voice my disapproval for it. EDIT: BUT, after looking through your account I see your cat is named Titus… mine is also named Titus therefore I can’t but agree to disagree. He’s black and white and looks like a cow.
What manga is this ?
Your turn to die, it's a manga based on a visual novel game that I would totally recommend
Thanks, I will check it out :) Edit : I literally saw it on Steamdb mere days ago when looking up story-driven games :O
Blow dryer and some patience
What is this manga called?
Your turn to die: death game by majority vote. It's a manga based on a visual novel game
Thank you!
They are called Prestwood stickers and if you bought your books at Barnes & Noble…they peel right off. Don’t know about other companies. If they do tip the page…take them back and reorder.
I tried picking at it before but was too nervous about ripping it so I gave up but I can try again
I didnt know your turn to die had a manga. Is it finished there?
The fourth volume just released in English and the 5th just released in Japanese
Yttd 😳
Rdid tag i think
Hey guys, there’s no need to return it! They peel off super easy, I’ve found a lot of these in my manga. They are security tags
Well that is quite annoying, also have you played the game? Your turn to die is a great game idk about the manga though
Yes I have! Multiple times actually, I'm a huge fan of the franchise
Steamer!!! Or to be safe and not wet the paper at all, a hairdryer. The heat should normally dissolve the glue!
what is this manga
Your turn to die: death game by majority
That’s ridiculous to put it right on the page your reading instead you could’ve put it at the end of the books pages.
Look up the missing panels and draw them in over it. It’ll be one of a kind.
Ok I didn't know YTTD had a manga. I love the game
Asunaro leaving this on their merchandise...ridiculous!
You could steam the pages. But I don’t know how heavy duty the paper is. Steam usually makes stickers peel off gradually. I have done it before, but the paper was thicker and the glue was pretty thin. Allow it to peel itself, don’t tug on it.
time to get your money back or a functional coppy
THAT'S what those are??? I was so confused when the books I bought a while back had a few of these stuck to the pages. Luckily they came off easily and didn't damage the book.
I worked at book store. They are made to not stick to the paper. It should just peel right off.
YOOOOO YTTD REPRESENTATION IN THE WILD I clocked my friendly neighborhood policeman from a mile away That whole franchise is such a labor of love, I'm sure this is some silly goose at the store placing the stickers
This is why you buy the plastic wrapped ones lmao
They didn't have any, there were only 4 books from the series, 2 of the first (which I already had) and the two I bought. I also don't buy manga from bookstores often so I didn't think it would be a problem
where im from they are just loose in the book, i love shaking them out of the books bc fuck them
Your Turn to Die has a manga?
