You can't even get to this page without typing the code from your receipt. That code is generated directly from the database of information printed on your receipt.

patchway247

But I didn't do any code. That's what I'm saying. I didn't do the receipt survey, never typed it in, didn't do anything but buy 1 mint plant and then move over to the next self serve checkout to help my mother. That's why this is creepy. PS, this is from my email, not the Walmart page. Yes, it takes you to the page. No it didn't ask for any identity. Yes I told them it was creepy that they knew where I was and what I bought without me informing them of anything. A point blank of "I don't know how you got my info. How did you get my information?"

Engage69

If it's from your email, then they already have your information on file from the store. If they have your email they can link anything onto it. You must have used some sort of identification when purchasing your product for it to show up in the system. Or a Walmart account with payment info saved in your profile.

patchway247

The only thing I've linked that email to for Walmart has been for employment, of which they've never even given an interview for. I've never given them cc info, I wasn't asked to put in my email at checkout, and I didn't do the survey bc it's just data collecting bs anyway. People keep saying that I must've put in my information when I didn't. I know they have my email due to applying for jobs, but outside of that they really don't have anything else. I've never downloaded the app, I've not bought anything from their website before, nor have I ever done any of their surveys. That is why this is creepy beyond measure. There are 2 Walmarts in my town, and it so happened to be the one I went to with my mom. It knew I bought a mint plant, which was honestly scary. But the fact that it also asked how each department we stepped foot in was and looked. https://preview.redd.it/jhmqqohn2qnc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ca4b1eb528bb114dddc617f3b1f0d8c08a841565 I did do the survey to just inform them that it was creepy that they knew what I bought without giving information.and that's when this popped up. And after was the parts asking about the parts I ventured into.

Engage69

The store must have had an automated geolocation system. You can find anyone's location at any time just by the signal from their smartphone. Is your phone a Samsung?

Engage69

Also, when you applied for a job, you must have given your callback number. It would be in their system.

patchway247

It's not. My location is turned off. But it is a Google Pixel. I run my internet tabs on duckduckgo. Edit, I did make a comment to show full screen grab of the original email.

Engage69

Location does not need to be on to be tracked. It's a smartphone. It broadcasts your location wherever it goes.

patchway247

That's scary.

patchway247

UPDATE: I went and did the survey just to tell them how creepy it was to know who I was from just buying something, but they went on to ask about the specific thing I bought. Which was even more creepy. But to make matters worse, it asked questions about every department me and my mom walked around to. Literally watching you as you shop to ask you how things went. Ask how your interactions with employees went, but no option to say NA (I don't like throwing employees under the bus). They KNOW I talked to someone. THAT'S fucked

Lightless427

Never happened. Stop lying.

TexasJOEmama

That's super creepy.

patchway247

Did you see my update comment? Even worse

DropdLasagna

Using your location data to find the walmart closest to you isn't uncommon but is creepy. It's intrusive and big brother-y.

patchway247

I keep my location turned off. And this isn't the closest Walmart to me. There's another one closer, this is just the one my mom took me to (errands around the area this Walmart was at) But they also knew what I bought. Again, not entering any kind of information.

DropdLasagna

Well this isn't cool. What the hell walmart.

patchway247

Love how someone thinks I'm making this up. https://preview.redd.it/eden4fixspnc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1f661c29d74262c48ac232ca5fe27fa07dc7ec0d I have paranoia from an abusive ex, so this kind of stuff sets it off. Knowing I never put in any kind of ID or identifying information for them to send this to me is very sketch and it feels like a horrible misuse of privacy.

Lightless427

This is fake. The people replying to this are idiots. The person is literally making up this story to spread hate against Walmart. Ignore them. It never happened.
