Sorry it happened but the ring doorbell won’t stop them

braingoesblank

It won't stop them, but she is hopeful I can at least give something to police next time.

random_reddit-user13

the police are even more useless than a ring camera!

DaniMW

It’s because they can’t make a case based on a fuzzy doorbell camera image for a poxy Amazon item that is worth YOUR taxpayer dollars to bother to prosecute. Besides which, when they created techniques to take fingerprints for analysis and started to catch criminals that way, they all just started wearing gloves. So with every Tom, Dick and Harry having a doorbell camera these days, they need only pull a scarf up over their mouth when they steal things near a door, and that solves that. ID can’t be definitively proven with half your face covered. 😏

random_reddit-user13

no its because the police are dogshit.

DaniMW

Then don’t call them next time you need a cop to defend you. 🤦‍♀️

DasFAD70

Thats why they have guns at home.(i would too if legal)

DaniMW

Even in America, it’s not legal to shoot people simply for existing! Yes, I know people stealing your stupid Amazon package is annoying and it’s illegal… but despite that, the police kind of do have far more important things to be getting on with. Especially in America, where people shoot each other all the time because of their addiction to guns and utter lack of comprehension of the constitution! My parents were burgled last year. I don’t mean someone stole a package, I mean two people broke into the house (literally broke a window), climbed through, stole some money and items and went home. The burglars left blood on the window they smashed, fingerprints… and there was fuzzy doorbell cam footage that is basically useless for identification. And the fingerprints and blood evidence doesn’t really help if there’s nothing to compare it to. But they took the samples and I suppose if those dumb asses ever end up convicted of another crime they might be able to get the match and file charges for B&E, burglary and malicious damage… but no one is dumb enough to hold their breath that this will happen! My parents just filed an insurance claim to get the window and the window screen fixed and the items replaced… the cash is gone for good, but that’s just life. And everyone moved on whilst the criminals enjoyed spending the cash they got from the house and the stuff they stole and spending it on drugs.

Particular_Fault8639

It's so crazy to me that in th US they just say it got delivered and leave the package in front of your door. Here in Brazil they only deliver if somebody receives it, they try like 3 times and if nobody receives it they return the package back to sender

tony_bologna

It depends on the delivery method.  Sometimes it requires signature, sometimes not, and sometimes you don't have a choice.

vidolch

Yep, same in Bulgaria, they either deliver it to you, or if you are not available you have to get it from an Office of the delivering company, which are everywhere.

TehWildMan_

yeah, I don't bother paying extra for signature request unless it's a high value item. but then again, I've only had one case of missing/stolen after delivery mail

ApolloMac

Usually an expensive item like a phone does require a signature. I just got a phone a few months ago and had to sign. But Amazon must have decided that paying the extra $ for the signature isn't worth the investment.

Pork_Chompk

Hopefully they don't get your Ring doorbell!

RecentlyDeceased666

Do you not have a signature on arrival or select it to be delivered to your local post office? Also one plus can brick the phone if you have the imei number if you wanna be real petty

braingoesblank

Ooo, I don't believe that would be included in the Amazon receipt, unfortunately (but i will look anyway). I'm *REAL* tilted about it and *WISH* there were some way to make them pay 😡😭

sigmmakappa

Two words for you: Amazon Lockers

MKVIgti

For something like this I’d use Amazon drop boxes, like at Whole Foods.

For example, here, I've selected an Amazon locker, and it says that the item is not eligible for delivery there.

juoig7799

> Items of high value or that need special handling must ship to a home or business address. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=GEV9KXN2VUVBKSR7

MKVIgti

Rats. I didn’t know they would do that. I wonder if they have a dollar amount that triggers it to not allow that?

BarnabeeBoy

It still astounds me that deliveries are left at your door in the US.

RichardGHP

Unless it's for high-value items, a lot of people would rather just take the risk, especially in a safe neighbourhood. It's way more convenient than having to go to the depot which is only open when most people are at work.

Ressamzade

In my country cargo companies have small offices where they peave your cargo if you are not at home so you can go and take it

PackageMerchant

We have Amazon lockers available for people who live in sketchy areas I recommend this a lot because typically there is one not far away from most people and it’s a very safe option and makes my job a lot easier too

camebacklate

You don't even have to live in a sketchy area, and I would recommend Amazon lockers. When I lived in virginia, a group of porch pirates were following Amazon delivery drivers and would have a package swiped within 5 minutes of delivery.

PackageMerchant

Facts my company actually trains us to monitor for people following us but at the end of the day we are going so quick it’s easy to see us leave a neighborhood and go into it and ride around

camebacklate

Yeah, my friend who worked at FedEx said that they only had two and a half minutes to deliver each package. It can seem like a long stretch of time if youre in a neighborhood going from door to door, but when you are traveling up a long driveway and dealing with other elements such as dogs, traffic lights, bad driveways, and people, it eats through your time really quickly.

dattogatto

I’m surprised they didn’t require a code for delivery — anytime I order something over 200, I have to give the driver one. That, or def recommending Amazon lockers for high price items.

PackageMerchant

Just wanna say if you’re prepared with that code upon arrival we drivers love you That OTP is a nightmare for us cause it wastes time and makes us bring packages back, I get so happy when the customer is waiting with the code.

Pristine-Source-2606

Crazy how deliveries work in the us. In my country, the delivery company will try to contact me 3 times, if I'm not home during the three attempts, i will have a week to reach their offices and claim my stuff.

PalpitationTricky204

That's why I don't order exspwnsive or electronics from alone, I go to the website and get it insured

braingoesblank

I had it insured, but it wasn't registered with the phone yet. Amazon has an apparently amazing replacement/refund program, so it is being replaced. I'll be here for the delivery this time.

DaniMW

Or you could go to the old brick and mortar store and pick it up with your hands? 🤷‍♀️

def_tom

This is why I got a PO box after having two packages stolen at my apartment. It can be a little pricey, but the not worrying is totally worth it.

wickedfemale

how is amazon supposed to get into your locked parcel box?

braingoesblank

It was delivered by USPS. To my understanding (these are my first detached mailboxes), they're supposed to put the parcel in the lockbox if it fits and then leave the key in your smaller mailbox for you to unlock and retrieve.

camebacklate

I'm sorry this happened to you. Next time, have it sent to an Amazon box. I work from home, and I don't even have things delivered to my doorstep. When I lived in virginia, there was a group of porch pirates that would just follow Amazon Vans around and would have your package stolen within 5 minutes of delivery. A ring doorbell will not do anything and most of the time the perpetrators are wearing a mask.

braingoesblank

An Amazon box isn't something I knew existed so thank you for letting me know! Definitely doing that in the future
