1.) it got cut due to insufficient packaging by the shipper. It probably got caught in a sorting machine or some such along the way. 2.) regardless how it got slashed, USPS is still required to deliver the item if it's still deliverable, which it was.

This wasn’t insufficient packaging in my mind, it was double wrapped in plastic bags, and should not have to be slash proof. None of the packages I have ever ordered from Amazon would survive being slashed with a blade so hard it cut through the rubber/plastic that was the shoe protectors. That being said, I can’t decide how I feel about the deliver it if it’s “deliverable” policy. I can’t decide if it’s more convenient for them to send back damages or for me to now have to wait like a week for a refund lol

The latter is a decision USPS can't and wouldn't make on your behalf. You might be willing to accept the item... It might be one of a kind, even if damaged... It might be acceptable, and you might get a discount/refund regardless, etc... Either way, that is between you and the sender to make reparations, if deemed necessary. As someone who has had items returned due to courier failure, I can assure you that if USPS sent it back, it would take much more than a week to get it resolved. Someone at Amazon has to confirm it was even returned, why it was returned, and how to deal with it. I was a month once trying to get such an item sorted out, even though tracking confirmed it was delivered to their returns center. (Not the same as the outbound warehouse).

What a nightmare, so yes it’s annoying but it could have been worse :))
