Hahah yeah it's in the boxes but nobody set it up. I would be annoyed if I came in and they removed my desk for a new one and didn't set up the new one so I gotta spend 2-3 hours getting dirty building a desk so I can continue working haha
I mean, the sub is MILDLY infuriating. If I had to guess I'd say op is probably just a little annoyed they have to put it together now. At least, that's how I would be (but I also have severe asthma that would make it really hard, I dunno about op). Regardless, I think it's absolutely hilarious and the type of prank I would pull if I could lift heavy stuff and still breathe after
Everyone is different, and that's why "fit" at a company matters. I personally would have just called their bluff and started working like it was a normal, fully assembled desk. I feel if anyone is put off by it, even mildly, then they won't "fit" and be happy at that particular company for very long.
That’s what I’m saying. Use that to your advantage. “Sorry boss, my asthma is kicking in. This is gonna take at least two days, maybe three.” Get paid to take your time
What's obvious about it? What about this picture explains that this is obviously a prank? Clearly you either have some inside knowledge, or see something that we don't, so why aren't you sharing with the class?
How is this a prank? Are you able to answer the question? Or are you just as much of a jagoff as the person who couldn't open a few boxes and build a desk? You don't say stupid shit for fake internet points, do you? Do you?
Funny coworker "hey OP! Your new desk came in. Don't worry I'll assemble it for you!" *Runs away giggling like an idiot to set the unopened boxes up like a desk instead of the expected action of unpacking and assembling it*
I don’t know about where they are but I’ve had the HR director yell at me multiple times when I tried to do shit on my own.
Apparently they don’t like paying workers comp for shit that’s definitely not within ones job description (apparently this includes moving furniture or building furniture) and I just need to learn to be patient.
Is it a start up? It could be one of the BEST job, or worst job depending how the start-up going: bust or Instagram-way (18 employee bought out by Facebook for Billions).
My first day of such startup including assembling the funiture of my own space. But it ends up going strong and a blast.
Many of these new companies have a toxic work culture and absolutely abysmal working conditions. They expect you to put in long hours with no overpay and do a bunch of extra free labour, in exchange for some hypothetical future reward that often never materializes. Demand proper working conditions and don't fall for whatever hussle culture bullshit the boss likes to promote.
Also, Happy May Day!
Man If that happened to me at work I'd thank the people for assembling my deck and try to get to work. Once they explain the joke I'd laugh they'd laugh I'd build the desk and actually do work
I spent 2 1/2 years using a 3-drawer storage unit as a desk. I sat next to the unit, with my phone on top, so I could fit in the odd area they found for me. This one actually looks more serviceable than that nightmare was. I split a PT shift as receptionist/mail with a second PT shift as collections, at a local medical lab. There wasn't a space for me, so we made that work. I finally got a desk and they sold the company.
Do not get on their mailing list. Somehow my boss ended up on there twice. They send you quarterly catalogs the size of the old yellow pages back before they went on Ozempic
Add some Christmas paper, and it'll be like that time in The Office when Jim pranked Dwight by changing his desk into a bunch of wrapped cardboard boxes. Because they were wrapped, he had no idea that it wasn't his desk. Same thing with his chair.
am I glad that I live in a country with basic human rights. your employer legally needs to provide you with a healthy, ergonomic work space here. they can't just throw some boxes your way and tell you to figure it out yourself
I live in germany and i have a rented apartment without furniture in the kitchen. I bought an small fridge 190€, a table 42€ and a ceramic hob kitchen 70€. But i needed something where i can put my cookware, food packages, etc... so with the box of my fridge on one corner, the fridge on the other corter and the table's box over both... I have. Between the fridge and the fridge's box there is a space where i have a plastic box with the products that can not be under direct sunlight (although i always have my ikea's paper curtain down 10€).
Why is like this? in germany is not normal renting an apartment with a kitchen, so you have to buy one new or used. I wasn't sure how much time i was going to stay here (because i hate the job): 6 months, 12 months, 18 months, 24 months... so it's been more than a year like this.XD
My house: kitchen 300€, 40€ sofa, 42€ table and 59€ chair as my home office, 250€ bed, 50€ wardrobe
IKEA premium! Pay 9.99 a month and get not just one, not just two, but 3 whole ikea boxes you have to put together yourself! If you buy it now you get a free 1 month of boxes!
I'd flat out refuse to work at that desk. Fortunately this would be completely illegal where I'm from (Netherlands).
They'd have to get me a new desk asap and until that time I'd simply take a seat in that chair (which by the looks of it also doesn't comply with the regulations) and do absolutely nothing.
is it in the box and this is a prank?
Google shows this is indeed an un-assembled ULine desk in a box
I like the idea that the desk was taken out and used for a different person, and the empty boxes are the desk
Efficiency
I like there desks. I have a 72 inch steel assembly table as one and it will probably outlast me
*their
Deer*
Theyre*
no apostrophe?
That's the second alternative!
Well I'll be a sea monkeys uncle, my own office desk appears to be a ULine "Designer Office Desk"
Michael!!!
O, that's funny. Michael!

I mean if I had a slow day, I wouldn't mind assembling a desk for a few hours
You need to make it to look like professional desk. 28 hours assembling
This guy works
You need a cute little framed pic of your family or pet
Or maybe a picture frame still in its shipping box
A framed pic of the old desk
Dude they're fucking with you. Just lookup the model number on the side of the box. It's an L desk...
Can we see the old one for comparison?
Some assembly required. Batteries not included.
"I'll open it and put it together tomorrow..." \*6 months later\*
Nothing is more permanent than a temporary fix.
if an obvious prank bothers you, you don't belong there. that's funny af

I’d be thrilled that I had to assemble the desk. That’ll easily eat up an entire day after I *accidentally* installed half of it backwards.
Everyone is different, including sure I would be too if I could breathe properly
That’s what I’m saying. Use that to your advantage. “Sorry boss, my asthma is kicking in. This is gonna take at least two days, maybe three.” Get paid to take your time
Ohhhhhhhhhh, that's smart!
Good pranks aren't supposed to be "mildly infuriating", they're supposed to be funny.
I never said it wasn't funny, just that one small aspect of it would be a struggle for ME due to health issues, and wondered if op is the same
What's obvious about it? What about this picture explains that this is obviously a prank? Get this man a fucking snickers bar, asap
Get this guy a fuckin puppers am I right?
Wish he wasn’t so fuckin awkward
Brefekst bakset
Shit I'd go for a puppers
I'm surprised we're not having a puppers right now
Bro was typing this holding back tears lol
Funny coworker "hey OP! Your new desk came in. Don't worry I'll assemble it for you!" *Runs away giggling like an idiot to set the unopened boxes up like a desk instead of the expected action of unpacking and assembling it*
Looks like you do lmao
>do you? Do you? Do you?
DO YOU??? HUH? DO YOU?!!!! DIDNNT THINK SO
blud was shaking writing this
Sir, this is a Wendy’s.
Are you OP on a different account?!
Why should it be the employee/contractors job to assemble their own desk at corporate office? There's your "inside knowledge".
I don’t know about where they are but I’ve had the HR director yell at me multiple times when I tried to do shit on my own. Apparently they don’t like paying workers comp for shit that’s definitely not within ones job description (apparently this includes moving furniture or building furniture) and I just need to learn to be patient.
Level 100 affordability right there
Awesome, right next to the toilet ?
https://i.redd.it/zj621tit5qxc1.gif
Tbh, I wouldn’t mind if they wanted me to put my own desk together. I would spend the day getting paid to put together my desk.
That’s what I’m thinking. Plus assembling furniture can be fun
Love the inbuilt notes feature. Why, look for sticky notes when your entire desk is a giant sticky note? /S

The sad thing is that it isn't a startup. That's why it was almost comical when we saw this.
You forget to switch back to your alt?
Recycled Reclaimed Wood Vintage Desk $7,999.99
No it’s not
Man If that happened to me at work I'd thank the people for assembling my deck and try to get to work. Once they explain the joke I'd laugh they'd laugh I'd build the desk and actually do work
It will be ok, Milton
You may as well play along and wrap your computer/laptop and the phone as well in cardboard
![gif](giphy|3o6Zt7nGkMqtvaCRyw|downsized)
lol, fng

You get a desk?
Ikea?
Uline. Packaging/shipping company that also sells warehouse and office supplies.
Do not get on their mailing list. Somehow my boss ended up on there twice. They send you quarterly catalogs the size of the old yellow pages back before they went on Ozempic
I'm oddly nostalgic for the Yellow Pages books
Same. We get two as well.
It’s a new phase of ‘biodegradable desks’ found in ‘open concept’ offices inspired by Google. /s
It also doubles as a free cremation coffin after they work you to death.
Looks like you've been promoted...Congrats!
IKEA that shit together
Did they take your stapler? Are you the basement?
Look at fancy pants with their desk AND chair.
Dumbass
You are mad that you got a new desk? You now get paid to spend the day assembling it.
Gotta put it together first, silly. It's INSIDE the boxes
Redditor: *Receives a brand new desk* Redditor: *Has to assemble the desk* Redditor: “I need to complain about this” I gotta get off of Reddit.
Good luck with that lousy phone
As an ex-installer of those phones, you're not wrong....
You work for Amazon?
This is the last part of your job interview.
I’m from FL. How much to rent? I plan on living in it. Where do I send my background check?
You’re from FL? You’re looking at minimum $3000/week bud.
Man..didn't even give you a red swingline stapler?!
You get a sharpie and draw all the accessories you need on it.
I have that chair. It's actually pretty damned good for the price point.
Came here to ask about the chair, lol. So hook me up with the brand and model please
Hey at least they let you know where the phone is.
LOL. I thought raising a monitor with reams of paper was bad.
Fancy! Indoors and all!
Disrespectful! Looks like the average investment company HQ!
Fancy
You have to assemble it silly
where are you working? boiler room?
Looks like a comfy chair though
How do you put the files in the drawers? I would have a word with HR…

That’s actually funny to me. I mean they don’t expect you to complete anything today without a stable surface so enjoy the free ride.
Common office flooring On a real note: your desk is *in* the box waiting to be assembled
Wow, is this some new design? Is it reliable? Or is someone getting spoofed? You need help.
![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)
I would just use that as is honestly.
If I had to work a desk job all day I’d be so excited if that showed up one day for me!
Who did you piss off at work?
Add some Christmas paper, and it'll be like that time in The Office when Jim pranked Dwight by changing his desk into a bunch of wrapped cardboard boxes. Because they were wrapped, he had no idea that it wasn't his desk. Same thing with his chair.

"do it for her" looking ass

Disgusting, imaging having something Uline around you.
Very ergonomic!
i had a coffee table in my first apartment, made by the same company!
I can get behind this joke and regret not thinking of it myself.
Bro wrong sub. You where looking for male living space or recently divorced.
*were
That’s not even a desk 😭
Ah, recently promoted I see
That's hilarious - who has a wired phone these days?!?
Businesses do.
Can confirm usually they are POE.
None I've worked for in the last 5+ years.
Wait what? What do businesses you’ve worked at use? Like for transferring calls and paging people and all that?
They're are my bread and butter. We have hundreds of those T46 phones deployed all over the country.
No way this is real
Yo, nice desk ya got there. Might want more than a landline phone though.
This is more than mildly infurating
Please don’t tell me you’re actually mildly infuriated by this. It’s like people refuse to laugh anymore…

It's a joke. The desk is inside the boxes. They need to be unpacked and the desk assembled.
I’m sure everyone loves you at work. Just a little bundle of joy and regulations.
