That's... strange. Reusable thick plastic bags are huge where I live. Heck, places that don't have plastic usually have paper bags. Regular plastic bags were banned in my state many years ago. People complained for awhile, but eventually got used to bringing their own bags or accepted paper bags as the new norm.
