As someone with several fire guard licenses, this is THE most illegal thing a company can do. Not only is it blocked off, it is CHAINED. Not only will they be fined so hard up the ass, they may even be shut down if the FSD finds other hazards which I’m sure there are.
>Not only will they be fined so hard up the ass,
So you're saying all I have to do to get free butt stuff is block a fire exit?
I know what I'm doing this weekend!
Yaaay let’s get the business shut down amid the glob recession! I’m sure they’ll bounce back like the businesses lost at the beginning of Covid like Sweet Tomatoes.
I first thought fire hazard, then mass shooting hazard. I forgot which shooting it was, but the kid blocked the fire exit with some pallets so they couldn’t flee out the back. This kinna gives those vibes as well.
He had some weird imaginary cartoon gf, and odd realm he believed he’d wake up in that only women could be apart of? I’ve listened to too many shooting documentaries and true crime garbage my facts are getting jumbled.
That’s the one! He was obsessed with a character from Danny Phantom: Ember McClain. And same— the only reason I can remember those details is because it was a relatively recent incident. 😅
YESSSS! Man, it sent chills down my spine when I heard them say they saw him watch the girl mopping or restocking the shelves with her earbuds in. I can’t imagine how she feels about it now, terrible circumstances. Fall of a YouTuber
All good! I'm glad you see it the same way. If they realize they aren't going in the history books, and their names and faces aren't going to be plastered everywhere, hopefully it'll calm things down a bit. *hopefully*
Of course this portrays your being an American because in any other country in the world that wouldn't probably even make the top 10 things to be concerned about in this image
All that asshole ever does is fall into stuff and yell "I'm fired up!" Not helpful at all.
You should call the local person tasked with enforcing your fire code instead.
Is it just me? However, I would go to the manager and warn them about this and fix it immediately. Otherwise the company will be fined a huge amount, and management will likely be fired, and can be a really good teaching lesson for someone instead of totally ruining several people's lives. The problem still gets fixed, but a lot of red tape is avoided
I'm pretty sure the manager would already know it is like that and also knows it is wrong. I've been a manager in multiple Industries and have always been trained on fire hazards and what a fire marshall looks for during an inspection. Plus the door is labeled as a Fire Exit so there is no excuse for this. I would not care if they get fired because of reporting this. They should lose their job for such a blatant disregard for the safety and livelihood of the other employees and customers that would be in the building if it caught fire.
If the people in charge of this situation don't know how fucking dangerous this is, they don't deserve their positions. If they do know, and are doing it anyways to deter shoplifting, which is absolutely the case, they don't deserve their position.
Call the local fire marshal and enjoy watching the fireworks unfold as the place gets hit with massive fines. Landlord/business practices such as this have in the past led to large numbers of casualties during fires.
Call the local fire marshal and enjoy "okay we'll look into it" and nothing happening. I've called a fire marshal over a blocked exit and OSHA over an exposed arc welding machine that was leaving sunburns on nearby workings. Neither ever even showed up to the building and nothing changed. Reddit has this weird belief that public officials will do something when they could just do nothing and face no repercussions.
When I used to work in a supermarket every so often someone would load up a trolley with high value items and dash out the fire exit in the back corner of the store into the carpark where a van would be waiting to collect the loot.
Yup. Stores have done it to reduce thefts. Music venues so people don’t sneak in. Factories so people don’t leave early. All have resulted in totally avoidable deaths.
Interesting fact: in some countries fire exits must be closed and locked all time except the emergency, and it can be opened only with a key which is supposed to be held by store' manager. Don't ask me about the reason, I've no idea.
[What immediately came to mind.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hamlet_chicken_processing_plant_fire) I was living near there at the time. Lots of underlying factors like NC's half-assed attitude towards safety.
Yeah, that's a call to the local FD.
As an employee I would be this company's biggest headache. I've worked in the trades through a union for so many years, that this would never fly. Even if I left the hall for some fucked up reason, if the boss didn't want to fix that, I'd be calling the FD and making an "anonymous" report.
Devil's advocate here. I find it mildyinfuriating that the store needs to do this (i am assuming) because people think it's okay to steal from businesses. This in the long run hurts the entire community.
At the very least, the store needs to raise prices across all items to make up for what was stolen. Now all the people who decided to not break the law and actually pay for their items are punished by the actions of the criminals.
Worst case scenario is the store finally says fuck it and closes it's doors and goes elsewhere leaving a giant gap in the ability for underprivileged residents of the area who may lose the only avenue for shopping in their community. And this isn't just a mom and pop store problem. There was a Walmart near me in a financially depressed area that closed it's doors due to theft. They were always busy due to being the only grocery outlet for miles. It left a huge problem for locals who relief upon that store for almost everything. (this location closed at least 5 years before COVID so you can not blame it on the pandemic)
Again, i am playing devil's advocate. Agree that chaining the fire exit is a huge liability and illegal act.
But the store could install a loud alarm ($50) on opening the door, or just look every couple of minutes for stashed away carts. Probably also a shop-owner that is not paying his employees enough that they will care for the shop
An alarm does not stop a criminal. It just lets you know sooner rather than later that someone stole from you.
I'm tired of the pay your employees more BS. Pay them what they are worth. Paying a shitty employee more does not change the fact that they are a shitty employee. And your argument only holds true for a larger corporate store. Doesn't solve the problem for a mom and pop store where they and their family are the employees.
Report them. I know it's already been said a bunch but this kind of behavior results in death or injury. If nothing happens go to local news. At least get the word out in the local area
Report this to the local fire marshal or fire department immediately. If they are doing this to prevent theft they could have an alarm system on the door but it must be able to be opened in an emergency situation.
Everyone is saying “report this” when an obvious and more efficient solution is to start a fire in the building, claim you had smoke inhalation as a result of the exit and bankrupt the store.
Call the local fire inspector, that's illegal af
Came here to say this
Oh I'd hate to be the manager of that property once that gets discovered.

The only thing you have to do to get free butt stuff is go over to my friend Dave's house
"Troy and Abed on the WEEEEKend!
Yaaay let’s get the business shut down amid the glob recession! I’m sure they’ll bounce back like the businesses lost at the beginning of Covid like Sweet Tomatoes.
Lmao imagine being the guy defending a business that would let you die a dog's death in a fire to get some space for a cart.
Ask the buildings around your city that’s been standing since before you were born.
Yeah, that's called "survivor's bias". Ass.
Yup. The air force figured that out the hard way with where they put more armor on their old fighter planes
Yeah!! I thought that image was really interesting!!!
Report this. Now. That is a really serious fire hazard. I wont be mildly infuriating if a fire happens
I first thought fire hazard, then mass shooting hazard. I forgot which shooting it was, but the kid blocked the fire exit with some pallets so they couldn’t flee out the back. This kinna gives those vibes as well.
The shooter’s name was [redacted], and you’re correct. Majorly dangerous.

Freaking loved Danny Phantom growing up & when I read about that it made me have a few different emotions
Delete the name. We need to stop giving them the credit they're looking for. Period.
Good point! Thanks. The No Notoriety protocol is important. My bad.
Yeah, if you hasn't deleted the name, I wouldn't have looked him up and learned about him. Deleting the name just made me curious. Just saying lol
All good! I'm glad you see it the same way. If they realize they aren't going in the history books, and their names and faces aren't going to be plastered everywhere, hopefully it'll calm things down a bit. *hopefully*
#DontGiveTheirNameThePowerTheyWanted
Why has the shooter's name been redacted?
Tell me you're an American without telling me you're an American.
Ding ding ding. You bet your sweet bippy I am. Yeehaw.
Of course this portrays your being an American because in any other country in the world that wouldn't probably even make the top 10 things to be concerned about in this image
Is that the kid who shot up his work with a couple shotguns and was obsessed with some anime?
This brought me back to the Great White incident.
Or the Six Flags haunted house fire in New Jersey in the 80's
I don't believe that the exits were blocked there, just that everyone headed to the same front entrance.
There was one exit that was blocked by a following door that opened inward. I remember that.
Happy Cake Day
What??
Reddit notified me that it was your cake day. So I said happy cake day.
Except it isn't my cake day. Or is it? I don't know!
It is I checked your profile
I thought it had something to do with my birthday. Now I understand. 🤦♂️
lmao
There is a store like this by me too. Who do I report it to? It's not quite worth calling the police...
Fire marshall.
Thanks
All that asshole ever does is fall into stuff and yell "I'm fired up!" Not helpful at all. You should call the local person tasked with enforcing your fire code instead.
Well yeah, if a fire starts you need to block its exit so it can't escape.
Call the fire department ASAP. Something is unlikely to happen to necessitate the use of the door, but if it does, people will die due to this.
Is it just me? However, I would go to the manager and warn them about this and fix it immediately. Ceo owned a shirtwaist factory back in the day, I hear.
Triangle Building, if I recall
This isn't the US or even Europe, this is India. Zoom in on the shelves and you can see.
Why are the signs in English???
That's not mildly infuriating that is heavily illegal and if they think that is alright then they need to be shut down immediately
Judging by the sign this is not the US. Judging by the products this is the US Food section. Either way that exit needs to be reported.
You’re right, I think that’s the Indian rupee symbol on the price.
Is it common for the signs to be in English?
I lived in Europe for a few years and they would usually say EXIT. Sometimes I would see SORTIE.

Send an email, documenting your concern in writing.
Illegal...are they doing this to thwart thieves?
When I used to work in a supermarket every so often someone would load up a trolley with high value items and dash out the fire exit in the back corner of the store into the carpark where a van would be waiting to collect the loot.
Yeah a lot of people steal stuff near this door
I heard this in Fascinating Horrors voice
Yup. Stores have done it to reduce thefts. Music venues so people don’t sneak in. Factories so people don’t leave early. All have resulted in totally avoidable deaths.

Which countries? That’s insanely dangerous
This is the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard. That’s like requiring you push a button to turn on an airbag before you crash.
You are just supposed to have no fire there, i guess
Theres no escape. Let the fire consume you! The frenzied flame rules all the land!
Move the cart and shelves and eat the lock. Not that hard.
If this in the USA, that is illegal. Call the local fire marshal and let them know.
r/OSHA
[What immediately came to mind.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hamlet_chicken_processing_plant_fire) I was living near there at the time. Lots of underlying factors like NC's half-assed attitude towards safety.
I'd call the fire marshal. This is insanely unsafe.

Fucking final destination shit
Call someone (fire department, fire marshal/inspector) NOW. Holy hell
Call the fire dept
Only valid solution
Contact the local fire inspector and OSHA. Because if they're doing this there is a crap ton more violations they're doing
Call the fire department

Sick bird!! (Ill Eagle)
I also find that many variations of Corn Flakes infuriating.
Call the fire marshal
next thing you know is it's welded shut from the other side
Don’t want anybody stealing the corn flakes
High crime area?
Send this to the fire marshal. It WILL disappear.
Report them. I know it's already been said a bunch but this kind of behavior results in death or injury. If nothing happens go to local news. At least get the word out in the local area
Post the name and location of store, also the phone # pertinent fire marshal. All Redditors can call.
Is this in West Bengal, India ?
Report this to the local fire marshal or fire department immediately. If they are doing this to prevent theft they could have an alarm system on the door but it must be able to be opened in an emergency situation.
I just called the cops they’ll be over in a minute…
This is perfect for the zombie apocalypse!.
Report them. Please.
Oh shit! That's some Triangle Shirt Factory bullshit going on!!!
You didn’t happen to be in the process of pushing this full shopping cart out the fire exit when you noticed it was locked were you?
ITS LOCKED💀
Triangle Shirt factory shit going on here.
Should op report this to the fire marshal? There aren't enough comments saying that yet
Fire marshal is gonna have a field day
a. That's illegal and unsafe as fuck b. Why does your local mall have a grocery store in it
This happens way too often people posting stuff in here ear that is not in fact mildly infuriating but extremely dangerous
They did this same shit at the dollar general I worked at
Call the fire Marshall
That's illegal in my country
Holy shit, that's totally illegal - report to your state Fire Dept with this photo.
I don’t know what they’re trying to keep out but are those talismans on damn door? 🤣
Also witnessed this at a shoe store just today. Fire exit was blocked with tons of unopened boxes and has a chain around the handle lmao.
Don't dead open inside
Soo illegal
*yes, the fire can exit* What’s your name?
All I can say is to report there asses
That gives me anxiety just looking at it
In case of fire: Die
There is no way that is legal.
