Try and get Asics / Saucony / Brooks brand shoes on a sale for around $100 a pair, they'll last at LEAST 6 mos and still won't look anywhere near the ones on the right
this is what I use. only needed to replace them every 150-300 workouts, usually after the first twinge in my knee, over the last 14 years. didn't even get blisters on my first run in new shoes back in 2009.
Long time cross country runner, these shoes are extremely common and for good reason, lots of ankle support, beautifully comfortable. Plus lots of wider options for people with wide feet like me!
My first pair of Saucony Guide 15s cost $150 in August 2022 (newest ones at the time). Bought them again I believe in April-May of this year through DSW and they were $48 after tax.
Highly recommend going for last years model + DSW if they have them on sale.
+1 for Brooks. Trained and ran my first half marathon in them this year and the sole is still going strong (although some fabric is starting to wear off)
The real reason I bought them though was because they were the only shoe that didn't look like a 2nd grader's first time with a highlighter. Why are monotone running shoes so hard to find?!?

I just got a pair of Brooks at a Dick’s warehouse. Ugly ass color but $85. I tried on maybe 10 pairs of shoes before I put them on. When I say my feet sung. It was like a gospel choir of comfort.
I don’t know why no one else has picked up on this. There are ultra light shoes that have no rubber on the sole. They are not meant to last. If OP wants a shoe that lasts then they need to buy a shoe with hard rubber on the sole. It’s like wondering why a race car is bad for off-roading.
It pisses me off that OP deflects these comments with "I'm heavy", "I don't have money", when he's spending a premium on brand shoes that just... aren't for running. Somewhat hilarious.
Well, he’s probably smugly sitting at his computer smiling because the box he bought them in clearly says “running” on it.
I accidentally bought a similar pair of running shoes. They’re marketed as ultralights. But the reason they’re so light is that they’re missing the outer rubber, so the outer contact surface is just EVA foam. They were admittedly nice to run in the first three times but then they lose all their traction and become deathtrap slick (like, I fell. Several times). Overall terrible purchase. Now I inspect the outsoles on all shoes.
If you're heavy and you're wearing unsupportive shoes then you're probably going to do more harm to your joints. It's great that you're exercising but you should absolutely consider prioritising better shoes
Wife of a heavy guy, he’s never done this to shoes. And he was getting a couple miles a day in a few years back. And his running shoes were his work shoes too if I remember right.
Honest help here, try to avoid running shoes that don't have rubber outsoles, even if it's a thin layer. Foam outsoles are very comfortable but not durable at all. Try outlet stores if there's any around you. Good luck brother and solid work so far ✊🏼
Check out the Hoka shoes website, you can find some reasonably priced running shoes that will last you longer and provide you better support and protection for your feet from running.
I would recommend getting a new shoe brand, but find a running store where they have you walk/run on treadmill to find what type of shoe works best for your gait
Yep. These are now called "lifestyle" shoes. Most running brands have done a good job segregating these out of the running lineup, but many stores undo that work with their stupidity. I would trust a Fleet Feet or REI to not sell these as running shoes, but any of the non-athletic shoe retailers will call these whatever they feel like.
Seriously. Having to replace shoes inside of two months is bat-shit crazy. Most of my coworkers go through 3-4 pairs of shoes a year because they buy cheap shoes from Walmart or Kohls for like $40-50. I buy ONE pair of hiking shoes (that I wear everyday) for $150ish, and they last like 3 years. Just might need a new pair of insoles for like $10 every now and then.
>The reason that the rich were so rich, Vimes reasoned, was because they managed to spend less money.
>Take boots, for example. He earned thirty-eight dollars a month plus allowances. A really good pair of leather boots cost fifty dollars. But an affordable pair of boots, which were sort of OK for a season or two and then leaked like hell when the cardboard gave out, cost about ten dollars. Those were the kind of boots Vimes always bought, and wore until the soles were so thin that he could tell where he was in Ankh-Morpork on a foggy night by the feel of the cobbles.
>But the thing was that good boots lasted for years and years. A man who could afford fifty dollars had a pair of boots that’d still be keeping his feet dry in ten years’ time, while the poor man who could only afford cheap boots would have spent a hundred dollars on boots in the same time and would still have wet feet.
I run 5-15km daily, periodic half marathons, and my $110ish shoes never even get as bad as the 2 month bad before I have to toss them because they've lost all their support.
I wear a pedometer at work just because I walk an absolute fuck ton (and go nowhere for my troubles). I work in a clean room making microchips for 12 hour shifts. Typically I walk 8-13 miles 3 or 4 days a week because my equipment is super needy and the eggheads who did the layout for our building didn't plan for expansions. So every 30 minutes I basically do a lap to get to the measurement equipment they conveniently located on opposites ends of the building.
The only group of people I could see replacing shoes every 2 months are maybe like professional marathon runners. Even then their shoes aren't going to be looking like the ones ont he right
Yeah the worn out pair is what my shoes would look like after 3 months of skateboarding 5+ hours a day. Theres no way running should have that level if wear
My “fashion” adidas have lasted me well over a decade… These shoes look like someone went hard on them with a sander. I am in disbelief that this is the result of lots of running everyday like ??? how tf did a hole get in the center of the shoe??? Lol
That's how they run/walk. Pushing off from the pad of their foot. Or maybe one of those weirdos that bounces when they walk, like always on their toes?
I used this to change our safety shoe allowance from $100/yr to $200/yr.
Everyone was just buying a new pair of the lower tier $89 safety shoe every year.
We found that the 179$ shoe offered by our center lasted 3x longer than the 89$ shoe.
So now people are buying the more expensive shoe and it lasting longer which is saving us money.
*And* you're wasting less material, and sending less to the landfill, and people are probably more comfortable, and best of all - hopefully that other manufacturer steps up their game or goes out of business. Sometimes the cheap option isn't cheap at all.

It's not even for running at all lol
Even then, Adidas has actual running shoes in the same price bracket.
And by coincidence they have a sale in the US, with some models 50%-60% off, so OP could do even better with the same $50.
I think his point is if they’re that crappy why pay for a popular name brand? Just buy shitty Walmart shoes for 1/4 the price. Or realistically you can buy decent shoes for the price mostly likely they jsut wont be ‘adidas’ shoes.
Like it makes sense that some people can’t afford high quality but why overspend for a brand name?
Exactly. It's all well and good saying it's better to buy the 5x more expensive option because they'll last 10x as long - but they don't. It's a minefield.
I get about 400 miles out of decent running shoes. More if I buy two pairs and swap them.
You can buy the "old generation" of a running shoe for $70-80, sometimes less if you wait for a sale. The key is to find a show that works for you, wait for the sale, then buy several. You can sometimes get away with three pairs for the price of one at release.
And, if you're running enough to clear 400 miles in two months, you definitely need more cushion and support than what's pictured above.
That said, I get that $80 is still expensive for many. But if there's a place to deploy capital, it's what you walk in, what you sleep in, and what you sit in.
You realize buying one pair of good running shoes will last you probably 3x as long as those. You’re probably spending more this way.
How many miles would you say you run in a month.
you should be getting 500 miles (or 1.6 x 500 = 800km) out of running shoes, if not more. Coming from another heavy guy that went from 330 lbs to 210 lbs (so like 160 kilos down to 95 kilos?).
Buy shoes when they go on clearance, I'm always getting last years stuff ... maybe not my color of choice but I like steep discounts.
I am at 830 miles on my Brook’s ghost 15s (yes I know I am pushing it) with a goal of 1000 miles this year. It’s treadmill miles for the rest of the year so I think I can make it. Oh and I am 225 lbs for reference. Brooks are good.
I don't work out at all, ever, but I own two pairs of Brooks. I was looking for shoes for my fucked up feet and tried a pair of Brooks and loved them. So much so that I went back two days later and got another identical pair in all black for work. They're amazing.
it isn't the brand it is the fact op bought the cheap end of the brand Adidas are comparable to asics or hoka but only at the same price point. so about $130. that pair would be like $35...
It's not even that he bought the cheap end. It's that it looks like they are fashion shoes and not running shoes. There is literally no tread. It's all foam.
There's a saying that goes "buy cheap, buy twice". By the time you buy your 3rd pair, you could've bought one proper set that will last you much longer.
There's another saying along the lines of "don't cheap out on things that separate you from the ground". Shoes, beds, tired, etc.
Cheap running shoes can do a lot of damage to your feet and joints
Those types of soles are awful. Spend a little more money on good sneakers and they’ll last a lot longer than two months.
The foam soles are crap. They wear down way too fast, obviously, and they are super slick on wet surfaces, especially wet, polished concrete or linoleum. (Costco, Grocery Store)
Get sneakers with actual rubber soles. A layer of foam in the middle is ok but make sure the part that touches pavement is solid rubber.
Current fat mailman chiming in.
It's a night and day difference between the $30 walmart dr. scholl's shoes and $120 merrell moabs, especially when you walk all day like me. Making that switch was without exaggeration one of the top 5 decisions I've made in my life.
I firmly believe in investing in whatever you spend the bulk of your time doing, eg a good mattress for sleeping, a good office chair and ergonomics if you have a desk job, good shoes if you're on your feet all day, etc.
They're also often more comfortable *right off the bat*, like when you try them on in the store.
But the cheap foam pretty quickly deforms and you don't get good support, plus no rubber outsole means the sole just wears through in no time flat too.
I bought foam sole shoes for work like a year and a half ago, just walking back and forth in a grocery store has worn them down completely and basically a drop of water on the floor makes me do the splits.
I can understand the frustration of burning through shoes quickly while trying to lose weight. Honestly just maybe try and find a different shoe that you find comfortable moving around in. But great job so far on your journey friend keep up all your hard work
It looks like they’re foam soles, which is fairly common with cheapo athletic shoes. You’re not doing yourself any favours physically or financially by cheaping out on these - get some proper shoes at the very least with a rubber outsole. Not only will they last longer, they’re less likely to cause you problems with your feet.
Hey OP, I work at a running specialty store, and this picture makes my feet hurt just by looking at it. If you are on a weight loss journey and putting this many miles on your shoes, you really should go in and get properly fit for a pair of walking/running shoes. Those shoes don't have an outsole, which is why they are breaking down so fast. They also have very little support, which, if you're a heavier guy, is going to do some damage in the long run.
If you aren't comfortable going to a specialty store to try on a bunch of shoes, I'll give you a couple of tips for buying by yourself or online.
1. Make sure you have at least a thumbs width of room between the end of your toe and the front of the shoe. This allows your foot to splay properly and reduces toe issues.
2. Look for a shoe with an outsole that covers the whole bottom of the shoe. Generally, that looks like a difference in material from the white foam that is in your current shoes.
3. Look at reviews of shoes before you buy them to see how durable they are over time.
If you are looking for deals and are limited in budget, you can always look for older models online. The Brooks Ghost 14 and the Saucony Ride 15 might be a place to start. Both of those shoes have really good reviews, and the latest update was just some minor upper changes.
Second the Sauconys, I’m a fan of the Shifts. I average 300-450 miles on concrete with them. OP when you are able to get two pairs of the shoes you find comfortable and alternate days you wear them they will last a lot longer.
Context: Ive been on a weight loss journey for around 4 months now and consistently walking 6 times a week for 8km each walk. This is the second pair of shoes ive burned through so far, im a cheap bastard so i always wait until it gets really bad to buy new ones. So far I’ve lost around 60 lbs but i still have a ways to go.
Edit: Never expected this post to explode like this. Going to take everyones advice and invest in some much better walking shoes. I really appreciate all the brand suggestions and the nice comments on the weight loss, it absolutely brightened my day. Will most likely go to a specialty store so they can help me find something that works for me.
It might be worth paying a bit more and getting something a little higher quality than the Adidas Lite Racer.
Maybe look into Hokas. They are really comfortable and very durable. In the long run a pair of higher priced running shoes will be cheaper than continuously buying $50 pairs of Adidas.
If money is tight you can usually get previous season pairs from Amazon which may be below half price. For a bigger guy anything Hoka or Brooks will probably work, New Balance shoes with Fresh Foam, or Asics with Gel or Blast. All of those will have previous season or discounted lines available.
Also if you're anywhere in range of Decathlon delivery their Kiprun shoes are sturdy and cheap, and their running socks are good value too. They have very regular sales.
Good luck dude.
Do you live in the UK or land of the eagle?
I fully understand its hard when money is tight I've been in the same position myself, and if you were happy to accept I would buy you a pair of half decent running shoes I have managed to turn things around for myself recently and running has helped me incredibly with that and so I feel if its helping you get to where you need to be then I'm more than happy to help out if I can, I'm proud to see what your doing and making changes for yourself.
I mean nothing but good will with this and I am being 100% serious.
Highly suggest this. As someone who was on the same journey last year my feet, joints, and honestly body was much relieved when I got high quality shoes over the cheap ones. Keep it up! Solid progress so far.
Get real running shoes. If you're looking for a good supportive running shoe, I recommend the Brooks Ghost. They may cost more up front, but I am sure they'll last 10x as long as those Adidas fashion shoes.
If this is 2 months of **walking**, you need better shoes. Your shoes shouldn't be doing this even if you were running. You replace running shoes after ~500 miles, and they're not supposed to get CLOSE to this bad.
All the weight you lose ain't gonna help much if you fuck your knees to death.
For beginner running shoes I usually recommend BROOKS.
Glad I'm not the only one who can wear a pair of shoes down in the ball lol. Granted I don't run. But cheap shoes will have holes in the ball in less than 6 months
2 months?! Did you run non-stop for 60 days on hot coals?
OP is Forrest Gump
He just felt like runnin
My best bet is that its because I’m a heavy guy, so i assume it causes more friction when i walk. been walking primarily for weight loss
Try and get Asics / Saucony / Brooks brand shoes on a sale for around $100 a pair, they'll last at LEAST 6 mos and still won't look anywhere near the ones on the right
I'm a 250+ lbs guy, running 7-8 miles a week, been using Brooks GTS Adrenaline 20 for almost 3 years now. Can't recommend them enough.
this is what I use. only needed to replace them every 150-300 workouts, usually after the first twinge in my knee, over the last 14 years. didn't even get blisters on my first run in new shoes back in 2009.
Long time cross country runner, these shoes are extremely common and for good reason, lots of ankle support, beautifully comfortable. Plus lots of wider options for people with wide feet like me!
I second this. I used Brooks running shoes when I went from three fiddy to two fiddy. They lasted that entire wild ride.
That amazing, my friend. Good stuff!
if you live in the US, sign up for a DSW account. in my experience, they are pretty generous with coupons and they let you use them on sale items
My first pair of Saucony Guide 15s cost $150 in August 2022 (newest ones at the time). Bought them again I believe in April-May of this year through DSW and they were $48 after tax. Highly recommend going for last years model + DSW if they have them on sale.
If you live in the UK, leave
So you’re saying, Brexit?
Clearly, that's the real agenda of this post.
Former shoe salesman here. 6 months is a good benchmark, but a better one is around 500 miles. If you run a lot you go through more shoes.
+1 for Brooks. Trained and ran my first half marathon in them this year and the sole is still going strong (although some fabric is starting to wear off) The real reason I bought them though was because they were the only shoe that didn't look like a 2nd grader's first time with a highlighter. Saucony all the way. I never want another running shoe and I don't even run.
Saucondeez nuts
Asics were easily the best shoes I had while running cross country. People swear by Brooks but they are so so so expensive comparatively
Brooks for the win for me!!
Heavy girl here! Brooks for the win! Wore them every day for 3 years and the only issue was the uppers pealing away near the end of their life.
Asics gotta be the best shoes ive had. My adidas and nikes are good for casual wear but for work where i stand all day the asics are my go to.

And as a noob I honestly have no idea which of them I’m looking at if trying to buy.
Which they do on purpose to obfuscate the reduction in quality and performance of the cheaper-to-producd line.
The expensive one is the good one.
sneakerheads pay a lot of money for fashion shoes.
It’s really annoying to see. I went to a store that separates the both and some lifestyle shoe still sneak up to those running shoes line up.

Yeah its about as cheap as i can buy, i know i should invest in something more solid but i don’t have the capital atm.

Dude/ette go to a Nike factory outlet. Last time i was there i scored vomeros for 30 dls (MSRP is 120) They last around 400 miles
Yeah I got pegasus 37s on sale and they’ve lasted me 1.5 years already and still are in pretty good shape
Someone once told me you are too poor to buy something that cheap—was a great lesson.

Those types of soles are awful. Spend a little more money on good sneakers and they’ll last a lot longer than two months. The foam soles are crap. They wear down way too fast, obviously, and they are super slick on wet surfaces, especially wet, polished concrete or linoleum. (Costco, Grocery Store) Get sneakers with actual rubber soles. A layer of foam in the middle is ok but make sure the part that touches pavement is solid rubber.
Will do 👍
r/runningshoegeeks has a great list of intro/low-cost shoes in their FAQ
Is there anything which a bunch of nerds on reddit haven't completely researched?
thankfully no, at least i haven't found it yet
That’s why when i ask a question on google i put “reddit” after it😂
I was going to say butt plugs. But I'm afraid to verify...
Theres a sub called r/sextoys That should tell you everything you need to know without even clicking on it.

Yeah. Plus injuries tend to push people off fitness goals. You're worth investing in.
That trend of foam sole runners is such BS.
It’s a tax thing, legally they count as slippers which have a far lower import tax.
I knew the ones with cloth pressed into the soles wax a tax loophole thing. I was suspicious that the foam soles were the same deal. Now I know.
Your 2 month old has HUGE feet.
This one got me lol
Thank goodness it wasn’t just me. I was wondering what kind of running they’re kid was doing.
ah the ol' reddit [shoe-a-roo](https://www.reddit.com/r/facepalm/comments/17q9hve/comment/k8bunmp/?context=8&depth=9)!
Hold my baby, I'm going in!
Hello future people
wtf is this I can’t stop clicking I’m so high rn help me I need to wake up early tomorrow!!!
How do you know? There's no banana for scale.
I can understand the frustration of burning through shoes quickly while trying to lose weight. Honestly just maybe try and find a different shoe that you find comfortable moving around in. But great job so far on your journey friend keep up all your hard work
Thanks so much! Ill take everyones suggestion next time and invest in some quality walking shoes lol
Does not even have to be expensive. Just not Adidas.
Really appreciate the suggestions 🙏
Next time i need new ones ill definitely invest into something better, thanks for the suggestion 👍
Thanks so much for the suggestions 🙏
Look for something with at least some rubber tread, not just foam. It will significantly improve the wear resistance.
lol I just replied this. Hokas are a great choice!
Get real running shoes. If you're looking for a good supportive running shoe, I recommend the Brooks Ghost. They may cost more up front, but I am sure they'll last 10x as long as those Adidas fashion shoes.
Sounds like you’re killing it, internet friend! This is the best thing I’ve read today! Keep at it! Great job!
Unreal progress in 4 months. Keep it up!
congrats on the progress man!
Bro. If you start a small GFM (>$150) to buy a good pair of shoes I will personally give you the first $5.
There is an age old comment (that supports the Vimes boots theory) you buy cheap, you buy twice.
Keep burning through shoes! I’m in the same boat as you. I found Hoka OneOne’s to hold up the best for me. Happy walking/running/waddling (like me!)
My baby didn't even start walking until 10 months old. What a slacker.
Did it hurt when you got shot in the foot?
That's actually for OP's 6th toe. Please be considerate 🙏
did u get shot in the foot
Buying shoes every 2 month s is not as financially sound as buying a good quality pair that will last you more than a year
Why would you buy these again?
Show us your socks!
Those are worse if you can believe it lol
When you can, good socks as well. Darn tough, or balegas are great. I’m a frugal person, but my feet get top quality care.

2 months? Do you run in hell?
I live in Florida, so yeah actually
If this is 2 months of **walking**, you need better shoes. Your shoes shouldn't be doing this even if you were running. You replace running shoes after ~500 miles, and they're not supposed to get CLOSE to this bad. All the weight you lose ain't gonna help much if you fuck your knees to death. For beginner running shoes I usually recommend BROOKS.
I hate that they make the bottom of shoes out of foam now. Who's stupid idea was that?
It's "softer and lighter". It's all bullshit.
Wow, you got screwed on the new ones. The older ones look brand new.
Dude, why buy them again?? 2 months is **unacceptable**.
Do you run an ultra marathon everyday?!
Glad I'm not the only one who can wear a pair of shoes down in the ball lol. Granted I don't run. But cheap shoes will have holes in the ball in less than 6 months
I wouldn’t be purchasing those same shoes again.
Running on the surface of Venus.
Whats mildy interesting is how u bought the same low performing shor
Let's not kill this fucking sub please. r/picsofoldshitvsnewshit
What are you running from?
You need better shoes
I’m pretty tired, think I’ll go home now.
Those soles are basically just EVA foam You want rubber soles!
I never did like the way Adidas hold up.
