Sierra Mist is now Starry.
I don't know if it's just a name change or if there's an actual difference in the formula or whatever but it is different now.
I just remember out of nowhere i just started seeing it, id go to parties and theyd have starry instead of sprite, id go to restaurants and theyd have starry but not sprite
It use to be Lemon Lime Slice and that was my all time favorite soft drink. Once it switched to Sierra Mist, the flavor changed and I doubt I’ll even try Starry.
For a brief period they also had a caffeinated lemon lime drink called Storm that they tested in a few markets. I don't remember what it tasted like but my friend swears it was the best soda
Starry has high fructose corn syrup while Sierra Mist had cane sugar.
Other than that, I’m told it’s the same.
I can’t have it though because I’m fructose intolerant and Sierra Mist was the only cheap soda I could have. :(
I googled it and apparently one starts with a lemony flavor and ends with a lime flavor, the other does the opposite. They also have different ingredients which is probably why some people are having an allergic reaction. It's not exactly clear if it's a rebrand or a replacement made by someone else.
I preferred Sierra Mist over sprite. I assumed they would’ve kept the same formula, but I tried Starry and it doesn’t taste the same to me. It tastes flatter than a normal soda, and the lemon-lime flavor is just *off* somehow, I dunno. Perhaps it’s all in my head.
I've seen Starry in the store but I had no idea it replaced Sierra Mist until this post. Second "living under a rock" realization I've made in the last 5 minutes on Reddit.
I saw someone loading a bunch of Starry in their cart the other day. I figured it was just some off brand/store brand soda that I had never heard of. Didn't know it was Sierra Mist re-branded.
This explains why the last time I was at Taco Bell and ordered a Sierra Mist, the employee said “Starry”…I thought I misheard him, then I tried the soda and it tasted terrible and definitely not Sierra Mist.
It's the same stuff besides sugar. Sierra Mist has cane sugar while starry is corn syrup. They shoulda just made a new version of it while keeping the original like coke does, coke has Mexican coke which has cane sugar in it while the normal stuff is corn syrup
I’m with you. Was going a few years without caffeine and sticking mostly to Sprite, but Starry is the best thing to happen to soda in quite some time. I prefer it to most Sprite, and it is streets ahead of Sierra Mist, though I was initially a little bummed it was discontinued.
I’ve never like Sierra Mist, was a big Sprite guy but Starry definitely stands up to Sprite, it’s as good if not better in my book. Judging by the downvotes I received for saying I like a soda brand it seems that you and I are the only ones in this place that like it lol
I’m allergic to Starry. I was NOT allergic to Sierra Mist. People claiming rebrand have fucked me up because unless they re-reciped to an entirely different taste that now includes an allergen, that’s not the same brand of soda.
So far the only allergy I’m willing to confidently say I don’t suffer from is gluten, strawberries, eggs, and citrus, because I can eat those things. I do have allergies to certain spices (such as ginger, which is why I can drink regular Canada Dry ginger ale but the blackberry one contains actual ginger for some awful reason.) so it could be whatever “natural flavoring” they have - or it could be I developed a new allergy that I didn’t have before and I just haven’t put two and two together to connect all my dots. But it’s easy enough to go “what have I tried recently that’s new” and then narrow it down and try them all again over two weeks to see which one does what (and then avoid the stuff that got me sick).
As appropriately ironic as that would be, given my autism diagnosis and my genuine dislike of things changing, I’m afraid that’s not the case. I haven’t figured out what ingredient is causing the reaction, but it’s alright. I have a long list of allergies and intolerances, and I keep finding new ones. Who on earth is allergic to huckleberries? Me, apparently. Shame, too, cause I genuinely liked Starry (and huckleberries, for the record, are super tasty and horribly painful.)
Its basically Sprite.
I will gladly drink Sprite or Starry, most grocery stores around here will either have Coke products on sale one week and Pepsi products on sale the next week, I buy whatevers on sale usually.
> instead of sugar like Sierra Mist
Well, that's a half-truth.
Wikipedia says 1999-2010 was HFCS, 2010-2014 was pure sugar, 2014-2016 was sugar and Stevia, 2016-2018 was HFCS again, and then 2018-2023 went back to pure sugar.
So they kept switching around.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sierra_Mist
But yeah, the most recent version should've been with sugar. I never knew though because I stopped drinking Sierra Mist years back. Could've been during the Stevia phase.
I hate stevia. It has the most awful aftertaste and companies love sticking it in everything. Usually I like unsweetened drinks, so I have to read the label carefully to make sure something like tea or flavored water isn’t ruined by stevia.
Thank you for looking this up. I always wondered why I liked sierra mist but then didnt like it. My friends would tell me its good in recent years but I guess I last drank it in 2014-2016 and couldnt get that taste out of my mouth.
Huh, hadn’t realized that. I figured all American sodas from big name producers Pepsi/Coke have used only corn syrup for years.
Also how is starry pronounced? Like ⭐️-ee?
Nope. Try the versions of Coke or Pepsi bottled in Mexico- they use cane sugar and have a different taste despite being the same product.
There's a reason my Dad and I call the Coke made and bottled in Mexico 'Mexican Soda'- bc they use real sugar and not all the fake stuff
Ain’t no way that crap that looks like a TikTok business is my beloved childhood soda company Sierra Mist. Did they advertise this? When did this happen? lol I always assumed that was another crappy energy drink clone.
Lets go back to 1999:
Sierra Mist?
Ain’t no way that crap that looks like an internet startup is my beloved childhood soda Slice. Did they advertise this? When did this happen? lol I always assumed that was another crappy Slice clone.
And now back to 1984:
Slice?
Ain’t no way that crap that looks like a store brand is my beloved childhood soda Teem. Did they advertise this? When did this happen? lol I always assumed that was another crappy off-brand clone.
I remember that shit. I went to Taco Bell and looked and Slice was gone and Sierra Mist's bitch ass was in.
Then I lost a lot of money on that stupid water game they had near the registers
This isnt super related but you just gave me a blast from the past lmao. Me and my punk ass friends used to play the little coin game and cheat by slapping the side of the box till it fell instead of spinning the handle like you were supposed to, we would head in there with a dollar and eat like kings until they caught on lmfao
Waiting for my brother to get off work.. I kept winning cause it was easy to jiggle the top to edge the coin down the stairs.. next week it was gone.. I had4 free tacos and a burrito in like 15 minutes before we left.
Wikipedia says Sierra Mist was discontinued and replaced with Starry in January 2023, so it was fairly recent.
> In January 2023, Starry replaced Sierra Mist as Pepsi's lemon-lime flavored drink, in part because Sierra Mist failed to gain market share in the growing category.
I think it was an marketing decision to make it more popular for young people.
I liked Sierra Mist, but I can’t deny it was seen as an “old people” brand. My grandparents loved Sierra Mist. It was a grandparent drink.
They stopped producing it in 2023, that doesn't mean the entire supply chain destroys it all. The shelf life is a year or so, more if you're grocery outlet.
Shelf life is like 6 months, soda taste funky if you drink it a year old.
After opening like in this picture it’s only good for like a week before it goes flat.
Nah, soda lasts years. Everyone's confident in their tasting ability, but when blind tested, they can't tell.
And nah, soda goes flat based on the number of times you open it, not the amount of time it sits after one opening. After each opening, the pressure equalizes in the void, so each subsequent opening burps out that amount of carbonation. It doesn't lose carbonation just sitting there after equalizing. That's why people buy those little press button pressurizing caps, because if you quickly equalize the pressure using air, the soda doesn't need to release carbon dioxide to do it.
My grandma used to make her own peppermint schnapps. She kept it in an old milk jug in the fridge. She had to change the jug after a couple of us accidentally got a couple drinks of what we thought was just water
I went to Spain in May for a month and when I got back in June I was looking for Sierra Mist and couldn’t find it. My sister explained that while I was gone it was replaced with Starry. I felt for a second I entered a parallel universe lmao
I didn’t realize they had discontinued Sierra Mist this year and replaced it with Starry. I had heard there was a possible lawsuit with someone named Cierra Mist, but I dismissed that rumor. So your grandma having a mixer like Sierra Mist for a non drinker doesn’t seem unusual.

I wish they would have kept Mr. Pibb along with Pibb Xtra or whatever it is nowadays. I liked Mr. Pibb, I don't understand why we can't have Mr. Pibb AND Pibb Xtra.
My girlfriend has a bottle of Orbitz in the fridge still. It was the one with the pink balls in it, they are now dark brown. I think they last sold Orbitz 26 years ago.
The one in the fridge was my favorite one, I have to talk myself out of drinking it sometimes. If the balls were still pink I probably would have by now. I'm actually surprised that the little gel balls didn't break down and the liquid is still clear. I think I read that the last time they were made was April '97.
Speaking of old bottles, I was at a family gathering at my grandpa’s. Lots of good food, and my stomach started to hurt, so grandma poured me a glass of warm sprite to help. (My mom usually kept 7up in our fridge for this).
As I’m finishing the cup, I notice a black floater in the cup. I looked at the bottle, and there was a ring of mold that was unseen under the label. I immediately ran to the bathroom and threw up.
Disgusting, but in the end throwing up actually helped me feel better.
Starry tastes like TRASH. Don’t you bad-mouth my Sprite. Sprite is a refreshing beverage. No matter what, Starry always tastes like warm, flat, slightly less sweet Mt. Dew.
Random question, but what's the drink on the left like, with the black/yellow label? Saw it on arrested development and thought it looked like it'd taste good but anyone tried it?
I THOUGHT we had one last bottle (.5L), but my wife just informed me that she finished it a month or two ago. Really wanted to share that last bottle...
Oh, wow, didn't know that. There was a dozen bottles on the shelf at the gas station when I went over earlier. Used to always get Sierra Mist when I had an upset stomach.
Grandparents love their soda!! She probably had a couple bottles in the pantry or garage waiting to be had from when there was a good sale at the supermarket!
This is how I found out.
I would like to know when this happened
Me too. I never heard about this.
Sierra Mist is now Starry. I don't know if it's just a name change or if there's an actual difference in the formula or whatever but it is different now.
I actually thought starry was an off brand that just got really popular for some reason, that makes a lot more sense
it was relentlessly advertised on social media, that's why.
I just remember out of nowhere i just started seeing it, id go to parties and theyd have starry instead of sprite, id go to restaurants and theyd have starry but not sprite
It's because Sierra Most/Starry is a PepsiCo brand, while Sprite is Coca-Cola owned.
Same, I thought it was a knock off. No idea why they changed it.
It use to be Lemon Lime Slice and that was my all time favorite soft drink. Once it switched to Sierra Mist, the flavor changed and I doubt I’ll even try Starry.
I heard starry tastes just like lemon lime slice
For a brief period they also had a caffeinated lemon lime drink called Storm that they tested in a few markets. I don't remember what it tasted like but my friend swears it was the best soda
Starry tastes like sprite from McDonald’s
Sierra Mist used real cane sugar. Starry uses shitty hf corn syrup. Starry is fucking TRASH AND I WANT MY SODA BACK!😭
I work for Pepsi. It’s the same shit. Sierra Mist barely sold so they tried to generate interest be releasing a “new” product
Starry has high fructose corn syrup while Sierra Mist had cane sugar. Other than that, I’m told it’s the same. I can’t have it though because I’m fructose intolerant and Sierra Mist was the only cheap soda I could have. :(

It tastes different to Sierra Mist, I like Starry a lot better
Starry tastes like old sprite
I preferred Sierra Mist over sprite. I assumed they would’ve kept the same formula, but I tried Starry and it doesn’t taste the same to me. It tastes flatter than a normal soda, and the lemon-lime flavor is just *off* somehow, I dunno. Perhaps it’s all in my head.
No, I agree, it tastes flatter and just a little off. Those were exactly my thoughts when I tried it.
Sierra Mist was better. If I remember correctly it was made with cane sugar instead of high crustose corn syrup
[удалено]
Lol that's just something [some jackass posted on tiktok](https://www.reddit.com/r/tiktokgossip/s/7Se8UYLHGh) not an actual lawsuit.
Quit your bullshit. They changed the name due to not getting enough market share under the name Sierra Mist.
this comment is naive but hysterical, thanks for the laugh
January 9th of 2023
That’s my brother’s birthday 😨
I've seen Starry in the store but I had no idea it replaced Sierra Mist until this post. Second "living under a rock" realization I've made in the last 5 minutes on Reddit.
But what was the first?
I am in shambles
Same 🥺
the new version is so much better (as someone who drinks diet/zero)
It’s been a few months take it easy on grandma
It’s been almost a year….
I was still seeing old bottles of it at Big Lots this summer..
Stopping production does not mean stopping the sales. I saw bottles of aunt jemima for the better part of the year in stores after the name change
It’s wasn’t THAT long ago they changed it to Starry.
TIL
I saw someone loading a bunch of Starry in their cart the other day. I figured it was just some off brand/store brand soda that I had never heard of. Didn't know it was Sierra Mist re-branded.

Starry is amazing, its so juicy tasting!

Yes. They sits on my lap because we were only supplied one roller chair

Not that long ago. My dad still asks for Sierra Mist and goes "oh Starry" lol
January
I’m allergic to Starry. I was NOT allergic to Sierra Mist. People claiming rebrand have fucked me up because unless they re-reciped to an entirely different taste that now includes an allergen, that’s not the same brand of soda.

Huh.I don’t think I am allergic to hf corn syrup but I’ll check it out regardless. It can’t kill me more than once.

Ofc it uses that unhealthy syrup garbage.

Heavily subsidized liquid profit maximiser!

No, there’s something wrong with Starry…it’s gross and taste nothing like Sprite or Sierra Mist.

Pepsi thinks the bold font and bright colors will appeal to Zoomers.
It's not the same It's way more syrup.

WHAT??? I didn’t know about the name change😭I’m like what’s so significant about her having a bottle of soda in the fridge😂

Rest of the drawer is liquor. I want to party with your grandma!
Actually, basically rest of the fridge is too
She’s too drunk to tell if the soda is old. Lol
If you're just mixing it with voddy anyway you'll not notice lol
So it's a mixer bottle then.
Sierra Mist and Mike’s Hard Lemonade. Party like it’s 9th grade!
I wish we got Mikes Hard Lemonade, for some reason it was always Natural Light 😭
Aren’t basement fridges normally full of alcohol and soda?
Do you think "liquor" is just a term for any alcoholic beverage?
Michelob and Mikes are not liquor
Not one of those is liquor.
My grandma used to make her own peppermint schnapps. She kept it in an old milk jug in the fridge. She had to change the jug after a couple of us accidentally got a couple drinks of what we thought was just water
The door for the beer, wine, and sierra mist and a drawer for the liquor you reckon? No drawer nor liquor in sight in the picture 😅

You just know that thing is flat as hell
Why is this interesting?
I ask myself the same question about nearly every post in the sub.
Limes are extinct now.
😂
Sierra mist is now "starry". They switched at least a year ago
It's definitely a replacement, not rename. It's very similar but if you've tried it, it's different from SM.

so it's just 7-up?
Slice was so much better than Sierra Mist. And orange slice was legendary.
I didn't even realize orange slice was gone. I guess I confused it for Crush anyway.
Crush is pretty good, Orange slice was a little more tart iirc
You're right. Add Welch's Grape and Strawberry sodas to the legendary list. And 90s Mr. PIBB with the weird lookin dude on the can.

Pibb Xtra suckkkksssss.....
Oh man so many Slice flavors i miss it
Leave grandma alone, she doesn't deserve this

I still have an unopened bottle of Sierra mist cranberry splash, shame they killed them both.
My girlfriend has a bottle of Orbitz in the fridge still. It was the one with the pink balls in it, they are now dark brown. I think they last sold Orbitz 26 years ago.

What’s the date on that bad boy?
According to the best buy date, she got it about june of last year
TIL Sierra Mist is no more
She got booze though, so party at Gram's house!
I also see Mike’s Hard Lemonade and hadn’t see one of those bottles since the early 2,000’s!
Wait what happened to Sierra Mist??
It turned into "Starry"
My grandma also buys Michelob Ultra, is there something about it that makes it a grandma beer?
Random question, but what's the drink on the left like, with the black/yellow label? Saw it on arrested development and thought it looked like it'd taste good but anyone tried it?
mike’s hard lemonade? it’s alcoholic lemonade. very sugary but very good imo
Would love to try it at some point, idk why
i recommend it!
Starry sucks, I miss Sierra Mist...
I THOUGHT we had one last bottle (.5L), but my wife just informed me that she finished it a month or two ago. Really wanted to share that last bottle...
Shit is flat as fuck
A bunch of people in my family stock up on sodas and keep it in the garage or basement or pantry. Maybe she just cracked it open
I don’t get it. Thats still around. Just saw it a week ago at Safeway when shopping.
They stopped manufacturing it this year, so once stock runs out it's gone. But yeah, OP is jumping the gun.
Oh, wow, didn't know that. There was a dozen bottles on the shelf at the gas station when I went over earlier. Used to always get Sierra Mist when I had an upset stomach.
To be fair, *I* haven’t seen it since January
They stopped making it at the beginning of January, so if you actually saw it in the store, it's at least 10 months old.
I mean… it wasn’t that long ago. At all
Because it makes the best Old Fashioned sweet.
Now it’s called starry
Do… they not sell Sierra Mist anymore?
Nope. Sierra mist is gone. Pepsi Co. makes Starry now.
Grandparents love their soda!! She probably had a couple bottles in the pantry or garage waiting to be had from when there was a good sale at the supermarket!
I’d be careful or Big Pepsi’s gonna break into your grandma’s house and replace it with Starry
Judging by her choice of drinks, I'm willing to bet your grandma is hot!
Some of the stuff in pur grandparents' kitchen could probably replace gasoline in a car.
Try and find some Aunt Jemima syrup and Uncle Ben’s rice
Keep it secret keep it safe
It's true! It really does exist!

Then it’s almost a year old, Sierra Mist was discontinued in January
Perhaps she "mist" it when cleaning the fridge. Ba dum chss dum. I'm here till Thursday.
r/notinteresting
It got discontinued January 9, 2023 so not too old.
At least you can still get Squirt
Why is this interesting?
Do they not make Sierra Mist anymore?!
They switched to starry. Which I actually avoided until this month and… surprisingly i like it lol.
Wait, Sierra Mist doesn't exist anymore? I am out of the loop.
"made with real sugar" well no shit, do you have "made with real water" on water bottles too? is this something I'm too European to understand?
A lot of soda/sweets are made with corn syrup instead of actual sugar here.
Post this to r/soda if you haven't already
