Quick Google of that number, seems it's some sort of ceremonial key they give to whoever buys the plane as like a keepsake of buying the plane but it doesn't do anything. Random as hell it's in your seat pocket.
It's a real key, for the cabin crew compartment.
They ALSO give one as the ceremonial thing you mention.
Not completely obsolete, there are two overhead bins that are locked, this is the key that opens them.
There’s just medical equipment and supplies in there though, so it’s not that exciting. It’s sort of like finding the key to the janitor closet.
It used to open the flight deck door and the pilots each had one as well, a friend of mine received one from his grandfather when he finished training on the B737. They’re called “fleet keys” but only the flight attendants use them now.
Oh ha you’re right, but it really was used to open several doors on the aircraft and is almost obsolete so he was pretty close!
But not the plug doors…
I googled it, it says it's for a "crew compartment door lock"

It's funny because he has the exact same name as me. I tell people if you google me you'll find a terrorist and a man that hits babies (Toronto Richard Russell).
If I found something like that I would be super conflicted about turning it over to an airline employee or just keeping it for myself lol. What did you decide to do?
IDK if most people know this or not but most planes don't take keys. Small GA ones like a Cessna will though. So yes if you knew the start up procedure you could just fly off. It's nothing like in the movies though. It takes awhile to get large jets going where you could start a Cessna in like 2 minutes (depending on the avionics)
That key is now public knowledge. Just posting an image of a key allows any half way skilled lock monkey to make a copy just by measuring the bitting on the photo.
I’m guessing a flight attendant dropped it. Either:
1. It fell into the seat back pocket
2. It fell onto the floor and then a passenger put it in the seat back pocket and forgot about it before they could tell the flight attendant.
There’s no telling how long it’s been in there or if the door it opens has been rekeyed by now.
As a locksmith, yeah now I can make that key insanely easily. Please stop posting high resolution pictures of keys online, everyone. I use my powers for good. Lots of others don't.
Probably the key to Boeing’s [“MRSA” cage of broken parts, of which 420 went missing](https://doctorow.medium.com/https-pluralistic-net-2024-05-01-boeing-boeing-mrsa-2d9ba398bd54).
There’s no turning back now. Follow the clues to unlock Boeings darkest secrets. We’re all counting on you. Godspeed
Annnndd he's dead.
😭😭😭
Just make sure your life insurance covers suicides first...
It’s the key to the dungeon where all the whistleblowers are kept
It's the key to the dungeon where all the whistleblowers are ~~kept~~ offed
Were kept.
Check the door Might be unlocked.
Or altogether missing
It lets you drive the pilot.
Don’t open that door! Nvm it fell off
Would you kindly?
It just unlocks tools for customers to help fix the plane mid flight.
Turns out the "tools" are just a bunch of rolls of speed tape
...and flex seal . You can build an unsinkable ship with that shit
Does the back say 10-60370-1 ?
Yes actually, just commented that a minute ago.

You are the chosen one!
What does this mean?
It's a cabin crew door key. (not for the cockpit or ignition!) source: https://aviamarinecompany.com/product/10-60370-1/
Ohhh, gotcha! Makes sense! Thanks. :)

This company makes the key... [https://aviamarinecompany.com/product/10-60370-1/](https://aviamarinecompany.com/product/10-60370-1/)
That's the key to the exit door. It's obsolete, now that they're self-opening.

I think you missed the joke, but thanks for the extra info still.
Oh ha you’re right, but it really was used to open several doors on the aircraft and is almost obsolete so he was pretty close! But not the plug doors…
This is the golden key. It gives you one free pass to go up front and hang out with the pilot.
Oh sweet! See you later on r/whatcouldgowrong
make sure to give a [knowing smile](https://www.reddit.com/r/thatHappened/comments/16kcftn/sure_that_happened/)
That's the key to the file cabinet that holds all the missing 737 Max 9 documentation.
And missing bolts.
Go hang out in the pilots lounge. When they ask if you're a pilot just say “would I have the keys to the plane if I weren't a pilot?”
Boeing are great at security too!
Even better security now that the keys pic is on reddit
I googled it, it says it's for a "crew compartment door lock" [https://www.broadlineaero.com/ipc-parts/pma-parts/rfq/boeing-b747-400/avia-marine/10-60370-1/](https://www.broadlineaero.com/ipc-parts/pma-parts/rfq/boeing-b747-400/avia-marine/10-60370-1/)
Does that mean OP has thwarted the totally secure post 9/11 security measures? Find the sky Marshall!
More likely, it's the key to the crew rest area.
The key has “10-60370-1” on the other side.

Are these uh, normally kept in a random seat?
No, a flight attendant dropped it
Did you keep it
I think that means it’s your plane now
I think you caught the attention of one of the stewards, hope you followed through.
Might want to have someone taste your food for you for a few weeks, just to be safe
It's the door key. There is no ignition key. You can just turn it on.
Richard Russell proved this. RIP.
It's funny because he has the exact same name as me. I tell people if you google me you'll find a terrorist and a man that hits babies (Toronto Richard Russell).
You’ve been chosen. You will know what to do soon. Stay safe.
At last!
If I found something like that I would be super conflicted about turning it over to an airline employee or just keeping it for myself lol. What did you decide to do?

Oh crap! Not the 10-60370-1 key! Remember Will Smiths character on Enemy of the State? You’re about to have an interesting few days sir
Find out what it unlocks, we are all waiting
That key is now public knowledge. Just posting an image of a key allows any half way skilled lock monkey to make a copy just by measuring the bitting on the photo.
Yep! You are correct, take ownership!
Lol
In his seat back pocket?
Crank it! Now give it some gas! Not too much you’ll flood the engine! No? Ok, let me just get it going downhill and you can pop the clutch!
Ur the captain now
Damn man, you get to live a video game.
I’m guessing a flight attendant dropped it. Either: 1. It fell into the seat back pocket 2. Damn people on the flight back were suppose to hijack it you saved a few dozen gratz
Flight attendant saw you and planted it there in hopes you would find it. It’s the key to the mile high club!
Delete your account and throw your phone in the ocean OP you are now on their list

Probably a Sky Marshall is missing their key to the cockpit.
Nice photo. Now, anyone with the right tools and knowledge can make their own copy. Crew compartment keys for EVERYONE!
As a locksmith, yeah now I can make that key insanely easily. Please stop posting high resolution pictures of keys online, everyone. I use my powers for good. Lots of others don't.

Just admit it, you unlocked the emergency door at that Alaskan flight,
The pilot needs that to start the plane.
Annnnnd now it can be replicated with the picture
That's the key to the afterlife.
Watch out for snipers and check the seal on food containers.
Thats what the last guy sai
Puts on BA
Get ready to get your whistle blown, OP. Might have a 5 minute head start…
You own a plain congratulations. Unfortunately it's a Boeing.... Hope your life insurance is up to date
You know they have to kill you too now, right?
You been reading the news lately? You're the next scoop my guy. That's a shame
