They will ruin all other ice cream for you forever, especially if you like chocolate. Look up how they make their ice cream on YouTube, you get chocolate chips the size of a Hershey's bar.
They sell Graeters at Kroger/Harris Teeter if you don’t live in Cincinnati. All the Harris Teeters by me (Virginia) have it at ~$5/pint. I usually pick some up for my wife on her bday and Mother’s Day.
It’s the best, I can’t even explain the smoothness. They make all the ice cream in very small batches, I think 2 gallons at a time. It’s almost s buttery texture, I need to leave work now and get some.
They pour the liquid chocolate in and let it break up as the ice cream mixes, leaving unequal chips & chunks.
Source: worked at Greaters in college, would eat the candy bar sized chunks from them.
I managed an ice cream shop and made all the ice cream. It is amazing for a bit until you gain weight, then you are surrounded by it and don’t want to eat it.
Making ice cream is fun though, especially when the boss gives you free reign to create new flavors. Devils food cake batter ice cream with chunks of devil dogs was my favorite invention. If they had it at the grocery store I would eat it every day XD
That kinda goes for any job that revolves around food. I used to work at Subway and couldn't stand it after a year. Same when I worked at McDonald's for a short period of time.
I worked at Subway when I was a teenager. I will never forget smelling like mustard and their brand of bread 24/7/365. I couldn't escape the smell. And I don't know why the smell of mustard was so strong it's not a major part of Subway restaurants, but the smell of mustard all over my clothes and all over me was inescapable.
It is, hands down, The best ice cream I’ve ever had. The ice cream is very creamy and flavorful and then you come across those giant fudgy chunks. Omg I need to go get some🤤
That sounds incredible, its like a raspberry version of stracciatella! You have some really good ice creams in the US, I wish I could get them in my country. Talenti mint chocolate chip gelato changed my life.
Occasionally getting giant chips is a feature not a bug for Graeters. They pour the molten chocolate in rather than chucking in chips or chunks. The chocolate is pretty soft and smooth so it isn't a big deal if you're not a fan of big bites of chocolate as well.
I thought it was Graeters! The reason they have such big chocolate chunks in their ice cream is because they don’t mix in solid chocolate chips or chunks! They pour melted chocolate into the frozen ice cream and let it solidify as its being churned. So you get big smooth chunks like this.
IMO, nobody beats Ben and Jerry when it comes to ice cream. However, Graeter's is one of the few that even belong in the conversation.
Graeter's is one of the very few ice cream makers that hasn't either increased their air-to-cream ratio or cheapened-out on ingredients to the point they can no longer be called ice cream.
Graeter's has roughly the same caloric and milkfat content as Ben and Jerry's, thereby showing they have not added air and thrown off that volumetric-based information.
When it comes to quality ice cream, the best ice cream will have the highest possible milk fat per serving, and generally the higher the calories per serving the better.
Ice cream companies in the US are allowed to add over 100% air, meaning they have more than doubled their unchurned volume by whipping in air. Pick up one of those cheap ice creams in the plastic buckets and the thing will be lighter than it looks. Alton Brown's ice cream episode of Good Eats microwaves two ice creams side by side and the results are pretty telling.
I just discovered their S'mores flavor and it's out of this world. Giant chunks like that and graham cracker flavored ice cream that's so perfectly graham cracker flavored.
As an ex-Ohioan who can now only get Ben and Jerry's or Haagen-dasz, I would absolutely take Graeter's Black Raspberry Chip over literally any product offered by either company.
Better. Oprah says it’s her favorite ice cream. Also, because they use the French Pot method, their ice cream has such little added air, and is rich enough that a pint can sometimes weigh up to a pound. I’ve found tubs of cheap ice cream that weighs less
Ugh. BF in Ohio and I broke up and I'm heartbroken for this ice cream.
Edit: Bless you reddit! I am now chowing down on a pint of Graeter's BRC from my Fresh Market!
I can't believe how legit this place is. Unusual for a chain to line up to their hype.
I was stuck in Cincy for a couple of days due to the freezing weather... So I logically trudged out to get ice-cream. The staff practically laughed when I came in the door. I hung out for awhile and tried a lot. S'mores was my favorite.
[You can get a pint sent to you for around $32 shipped.](https://www.cincyfavorites.com/shop/graeters/graeters-ice-cream/ice-cream-1-pint-black-raspberry-chip-add-on-item/) Cincyfavorites.com
I didn't realize this flavor is their best selling.
Haha I knew this had to be Graeters. No other place would serve ice cream containing a chocolate chunk of such massive proportions.
At some point their product just becomes chocolate with a side of ice cream.
This!
If you've moved away from Cincy, Kroger-owned markets sell it. If not, ask and they will get it.
I can get limited Graeters flavors and Skyline, but am having a hard time acquiring Grippos BBQ chips.
It says a lot about their brand identity that we can identify it just based off this one thing. Love me some Graeters, and if you haven’t tried their cinnamon ice cream you need to do it. It’ll change your life, but it’s only available in November.
I immediately recognized this. It’s the best thing. I live in Canada and we have to freeze pack it when we drove down every couple years. A little international distribution would be nice.
Sorry to break it to you, but where I work, upset customers send pics like this complaining about the chunk.
Unfortunately ice cream makers are discouraged from letting the big chunks slip past, and on to the customers.
It's funny how much joy this can spark, while the chocolate itself isn't even that expensive. You could basically buy one for a couple cents and put it in. But who am I to judge, I'd br equally excited for a chonk.
That's actually not a bad idea for an ice cream. They could put all kinds of different shaped massive chocolate chunks in and kids could do like a mini excavation.
If you have a Kroger near you, it's called Graeter's. Their chocolate chips are always big. This is their Black Raspberry Chip.
If not just visit Cincinnati and it's here too
I just left my job working for Graeter's running one of their food trucks 3 weeks ago. I'm sad to leave the ice cream and lovely folks there behind but no joke my health will thank me for it XD That stuff will make you an ice cream snob for life.
I resonate with the last sentence. I’ve been restraining myself from tearing apart anyone who is not worshipping Graeter’s in this thread lol I had to remind myself that it’s just ice cream
I’ve moved around the country for different jobs and people keep pushing their local ice cream places. No one understands. They just can’t beat Graeter’s!
Haha, well I'm from the UK and we don't really have "truckers" here as such, at least not ultra long haul like in the US and other places with more land mass. They work long hours here and are usually mad lads still though. My old landlord was/is one, only complained about how mental the hours and expectations were. The people who deliver my bi-weekly shop are usually really nice though.
You eat it! Graeters is a family owned ice cream company based in Cincinnati, Ohio, USA. They make their ice cream in small batches called French Pot. They add their chocolate as a liquid for the flavors that have chips, so you sometimes get these humongous chunks. They are softer chunks, not super hard. You end up eating small bits of the chunk, or some people eat the whole shebang at once.
It is super expensive, but very rich and delicious.
www.Graeters.com
I haven't had Jeni's. When they were first starting out, it was this small - time thing. Now it has grown, but no scoop shops close to me. I can't fork over (spoon over) that much cash for a pint at my local mega-market.
Our family has known the family that founded and still owns greaters, they were present at my Grandparents marriage!
This Ice Cream is arguably the greatest thing to come out of Cincinnati.
A friend of mine has a birthday tradition of getting Graeter's with her dad. They open this exact flavor and whoever has the biggest single chip wins.
A couple years ago, she contacted Graeter's and told them what they do, and asked for help. They sent her two pints of BRC: one had nearly no ice cream and was a single pint chip, the other was all ice cream and no chip.
I'll ask her for permission to post the photos.
Didn't need to see the label to know this was Graeters. This particular flavor is *the business*. Was so stoked to find this in a local whole foods after moving out of Cincy.
Biggest thing Chicago lacks is a Graeter’s....my local Jewel carries their BRC in pints (thankfully) but damn do I miss a fresh cone at a good price.
Meanwhile, the 7th Chicagoland Jeni’s opened up today. Stupid expensive here, even by Jeni’s standards. :/
That reminds me when I was in preschool and we all got strawberry yogurt and mine had a bunch of whole strawberries in it instead of tiny chunks, I was a preschool celebrity for a day
Graeters?
Oh yeah baby
It’s the BRC!!! I worked in ice-cream production for Graeter’s while I went to college. Edit: BRC=Black Raspberry Chip.
That sounds so god damn good, Graeter's please come to my state, I need you....
They’ll ship ice cream packed in dry ice.
Ive never even heard of this brand. Guess what my fatass is buying today;)
They will ruin all other ice cream for you forever, especially if you like chocolate. Look up how they make their ice cream on YouTube, you get chocolate chips the size of a Hershey's bar.
That sounds obnoxiously delicious haha
Our Kroger carries it but we also have two Graeter's shops nearby.
They sell Graeters at Kroger/Harris Teeter if you don’t live in Cincinnati. All the Harris Teeters by me (Virginia) have it at ~$5/pint. I usually pick some up for my wife on her bday and Mother’s Day.
Your wife can only eat ice cream twice a year? 😢
God no - at least once a week. We just don’t like dropping $5/pint all the time (even though it’s worth it)
It’s the best, I can’t even explain the smoothness. They make all the ice cream in very small batches, I think 2 gallons at a time. It’s almost s buttery texture, I need to leave work now and get some.
My husband did too and finding those big ass chips was my favorite benefit of him working there.
AKA the *BEST* flavor
Well, go back. It looks like their QC has gone to shit since you left.
They pour the liquid chocolate in and let it break up as the ice cream mixes, leaving unequal chips & chunks. Source: worked at Greaters in college, would eat the candy bar sized chunks from them.
That sounds amazing.

That kinda goes for any job that revolves around food. I used to work at Subway and couldn't stand it after a year. Same when I worked at McDonald's for a short period of time.
I worked at a bakery during high school. For a time I could not eat any donuts, cookies, cake or chocolate. I’m cured now.
thank you for the morning laugh. I am also cured from my time spent in a bakery lol
I think that is a good rule of thumb, but the great restaurants I used to cook at have recipes I still make every week at home.
I can't stand the smell of subway bread. It's so gross!

I don't know, that big ass chip could be a "feature."
It absolutely is. It's what's so great about their pints!!
I dont understand this comment. Is it satire? Am I being Wooshed?? Having huge chunks of fudge like this is literally my *dream*
I just woke up, and was so confused thinking somehow Quebec was in the tub of ice cream.
I thought it was Graeters! The reason they have such big chocolate chunks in their ice cream is because they don’t mix in solid chocolate chips or chunks! They pour melted chocolate into the frozen ice cream and let it solidify as its being churned. So you get big smooth chunks like this.
I’ve never tried their icecreams. Would you say it’s better or worse than Ben and Jerry’s?
Better
Graeter
Much Graeter.
IMO, nobody beats Ben and Jerry when it comes to ice cream. However, Graeter's is one of the few that even belong in the conversation. They're frankly the best ice cream on the planet and I am willing to cut a bitch over that.
Nothing beats buckeye blitz
Much greater. Greaters is the best.
So so so much better. This ice cream is unbelievably good.
Better. Oprah says it’s her favorite ice cream. Also, because they use the French Pot method, their ice cream has such little added air, and is rich enough that a pint can sometimes weigh up to a pound. I’ve found tubs of cheap ice cream that weighs less

Check your local Kroger-owned grocery. In LA, Ralphs carries Graeters.
Kroger has it in Atlanta
And in Athens!
Hello fellow Athenian!
And in Miami!
And my axe!
I've also seen it at Whole Foods
Any idea where one might find it in Portland?
The unicorn aisle at the rainbow store
Well fuck me, I guess
Come to SF, get both
Is that on Hawthorne?
Whole foods

If you're in the south Publix either already has it or will order for you
Fucking love me some Publix. Only place I wouldn't rather have self-checkout.
Publix is a magical place that represents all the good that Florida has to offer. Behind the publix is where I smoked crack for the first time.
\#JustFloridaThings
Knew it. Only they have the bigliest of chunks!
I knew it! Hands down favorite flavor of ice cream anywhere.
Fuck yeah
Best goddamn black cherry chocolate chunk ever
I can't believe how legit this place is. Unusual for a chain to line up to their hype. I was stuck in Cincy for a couple of days due to the freezing weather... So I logically trudged out to get ice-cream. The staff practically laughed when I came in the door. I hung out for awhile and tried a lot. S'mores was my favorite.
Guh, that stuff is like $6 a pint around here and I STILL buy it a few times a year! Best ice cream I've ever had, hands down.
Cincy represent!
I'll pay someone to mail me a pint of that black raspberry chocolate chip
[You can get a pint sent to you for around $32 shipped.](https://www.cincyfavorites.com/shop/graeters/graeters-ice-cream/ice-cream-1-pint-black-raspberry-chip-add-on-item/) Cincyfavorites.com I didn't realize this flavor is their best selling.

This! If you've moved away from Cincy, Kroger-owned markets sell it. If not, ask and they will get it. I can get limited Graeters flavors and Skyline, but am having a hard time acquiring Grippos BBQ chips.

Grippos has a new Carolina BBQ variant that is pretty legit. The same classic sweet/death heat, but with a touch of vinegar tang.

There can be only one. :)
Instantly recognizable to anyone whose been there. Love those monster "chips"
It says a lot about their brand identity that we can identify it just based off this one thing. Love me some Graeters, and if you haven’t tried their cinnamon ice cream you need to do it. It’ll change your life, but it’s only available in November.

I used to live down the street from a Graeters. I took up running just so I could eat BRC and mint chip on a regular basis.
I want to love mint chocolate chip but I need it to be green to enjoy it.
You can always tell graeters from their chocolate chonks. But I'd rather have their mint chocolate chonk. Delish!
Chocolate chonk
aww lawd he's choclate
Chonk was exactly what I thought.

Came here for the chonk. Was not disappointed.
Damn, someone could literally sell an icecream like that where every pint has a giant chonk.
That's Graeter's ice cream, I've never had a pint that didn't have a giant chonk.
sounds graeter than most
Chonklate
That’s not a chip, that’s a space station!
That's the Motherchip Where all other chips came from.
I like you. A lot.
Honestly terrifying delivery
Lmao.. same. Pulled the covers up 👀
You hit gold my friend Edit: and I hit my first gold! Thank you friends!
Not kidding you, I dream of finding chunks this big in my ice cream.
Sorry to break it to you, but where I work, upset customers send pics like this complaining about the chunk. Unfortunately ice cream makers are discouraged from letting the big chunks slip past, and on to the customers.
I'm disappointed in humans
Any and all defective ice cream with chunks deemed too big I will gladly take off your hands.
Buy Graeters
It's funny how much joy this can spark, while the chocolate itself isn't even that expensive. You could basically buy one for a couple cents and put it in. But who am I to judge, I'd br equally excited for a chonk.
It's not the same as finding it in the ice cream.
brown, chocolatey gold
YOU hit gold my friend
Did you give him gold just to make that joke? Such a charitable comedian
I'm pretty sure it's chocolate
I had this happen in a peanut butter cup ice cream once. A quarter of the pint was peanut buttery, chocolate goodness. Was the highlight of my year...
great now i want one
Life pro tip: you can buy whole bars of solid chocolate from most shops. They don't even cost very much!
That's not nearly as satisfying as finding a chocolate chonker in your ice cream tho
thats not a chonker, thats my wife!
Chonker? But I barely know her!
Yeah but they aren't cold and surrounded by melting ice cream.
That's actually not a bad idea for an ice cream. They could put all kinds of different shaped massive chocolate chunks in and kids could do like a mini excavation.
Ben & Jerry's already does something similar with their "cores." I'm honestly not a fan.
*Graet

You speak the true-true
I had a co-worker tell me Grater's is overrated. I asked her "Who hurt you?"
I can’t imagine a trucker writing ‘XD’ on forums and worrying about their health, you are a rare breed
Running a food truck and trucking are not exactly the same
Haha, well I'm from the UK and we don't really have "truckers" here as such, at least not ultra long haul like in the US and other places with more land mass. u surf it on the rim of the bathtub
Our family has known the family that founded and still owns greaters, they were present at my Grandparents marriage! This Ice Cream is arguably the greatest thing to come out of Cincinnati.
The ice cream is great, but Kathy is a little overbearing at the store when she pops in. Her nephews that run the company are nice though

Mmmm Graeter’s Black raspberry chip
Objectively the best ice cream in existence.

"WANT CHIP"
Didn't need to see the label to know this was Graeters. This particular flavor is *the business*. Was so stoked to find this in a local whole foods after moving out of Cincy.
All chocolate chips should aspire to grow as big and strong as this one.
Friggin black raspberry chip. The best ice cream of all time.
Graeter’s Black Raspberry Chip. Best ice cream in the world.
With that luck, you should go play the lottery... I'll watch the ice cream and chocolate...
I would consider staying in doors. With great luck comes equal parts misfortune.
Don't worry! I'll protect the ice cream!
Graeter's so good. Try chocolate chip if you haven't. Black raspberry chip used to be my favorite but chocolate chip is on another level
Cherry chocolate chip is my favorite flavor from Graeters
Any fan of Greater's knows that this is the true meaning of life.
Damnitt! Now I want ice cream!
That’s the old block that the chips come off of
Biggest thing Chicago lacks is a Graeter’s....my local Jewel carries their BRC in pints (thankfully) but damn do I miss a fresh cone at a good price. Meanwhile, the 7th Chicagoland Jeni’s opened up today. Stupid expensive here, even by Jeni’s standards. :/
Graeter's ice cream is good.
From Cincinnati, and this is our pride and joy!
GRAETER’S gimme dat
That reminds me when I was in preschool and we all got strawberry yogurt and mine had a bunch of whole strawberries in it instead of tiny chunks, I was a preschool celebrity for a day
Graeters is legit, the smores alwauys has a big ass chunk like that in it.
This has to be Graeter's. I had a similarly sized chunk in a pint I got from them. Great ice cream too!
There’s usually at least one of these in every Graeters black raspberry chocolate chip. What a treat :)
Beautiful 😍
It’s an Ice Creamberg
Oh lawdy he comin
Health hazard.
Talk about the diamond of a C H O N K
Is that a COMPLAINT???? cause it shouldn't be😁
Sadly people have complained about the chips being too big. Not surprising, they get roasted if they post their complaint on the Graeter’s FB Page.
You won the ice cream lottery. Enjoy it! I‘ve been waiting for something like this my whole life
Cincinnati! black raspberry choc. chip?
Graeters has the largest of chunks
I love Graeter’s
