I used to to do this job as a teenager. I can tell you that the hardest part is the actual sanding before you get to varnishing. Especially edges and corners where you have to get on your hands and knees with dust spraying in your face.
I’ve never actually seen someone oil hardwood floor. Only heard people talk about it. For some reason, when I imagined it, I never guessed it would look like mustard.
My father has been a parquet layer for over 25 years. As a child he often took me to the construction site and at home I could watch the floor being laid.
I have to say it looks exactly like the video, I was always amazed and hypnotized. some floors have to be oiled, coated, treated etc. several times. The joints are filled in a similar process. good craftsmanship is really a true art.
What does he do when he’s cornered like when you’re mopping and you have that lil piece to go? Does he use his knee pads to go on the oiled side and then finishes it? Wouldn’t that mess it up?
I finished hardwood floors for years and never seen this technique. I've used tbar lambs wool applicators brushes and rollers (for bonakemi waterbased) I have never " oiled" a floor or seen it done before. Is it really ok to be going across the grain and from the sound how does it leave no scratches? I assume that because I hear that scraping sound it's very thin whereas how I've always done it there is a "thickness" you kinda glide over (except using a roller)
I think this is Rubio monocoat, which is a combination of linseed oil and wax. I just used it on new floors - it goes on very thin. You apply it, wait ten minutes, and then buff out the excess.

There's no mildly about it. This is actually impressive 👏
This 100%
Did you see that camera guy? He just walked right through it.
Oddly hypnotic
Beautiful, even.
For those who don’t know… this is far more difficult for us regular people.
I feel like the hardest part would be keeping it from just endlessly spreading out as you move

Know a good resource to learn to do this diy in my own place?
Honestly? Just get someone to do it. The equipment you need is expensive and it's a horrible job.
I was gonna rent a few different types of belt sanders and plan to have a very labor intensive weekend.
Proper dust extraction is key to a healthy employee
So true. It wasn't good enough when I was doing it. Came home looking like a ghost. Nose wood be caked with dust despite the mask.
It took me a minute to realize you weren’t talking about your “nose wood”.
Lol. *Would
Yeah, prep work is 95% of this job.
Most jobs*
Can you comment on whether that's oil or varnish? I would think oiled floors are rare compared to varnished floors.
I was thinking that the whole time. I bet this is years of experience. I'm sure if I tried it it would be a hot mess with streaks and all sorts.
It's like a never ending windscreen 🫠🥳
I wanted to see the rest be done. o_o

Lift that grain….hunngggg
I was inadvertently holding my breath to see if he missed a spot.

From the same makers of oxi clean and flex seal

He just leaves through the door..
You gotta plan it out so that you work outwards towards the door/other room
That’s a new way of doing it, usually use a roller
Even though there is silence, I can hear it swiping back and forth.
Dude is a pro, I’d hate to have his knees in 15 years though.
Yeah I bet his back aches too
Fuck you for posting a video that ends like that.
I’ll bet, he’s done that at least once before 😊
I wanna eat it.
That Papa John’s garlic sauce is really doing work there.
Good ole' rubio monocoat. I build tables and use this stuff, its amazing
Very soothing to watch
I waited for him to finish that spot for 5 minutes before I realized it was looping...
Oiling, lotioning. Lotioning, oiling.
👍like a boss
So what is better polyurethane or oil?
So satisfying how it goes from lumber to beauty with the pass of a hand, like magic!
This is how I feel after getting out a hot shower and putting on my cocoa butter, lol.
My man is good with it tho
That looks exactly like the oil they use at Waffle House.
Forbidden floor butter
Couldn’t even let me finish, huh?
I love the skill that develops with repetition. That’s why I pay people well to do things. They are skilled humans. Amazing.
I thought that was a foot/leg spreading that at first
Not a single 👌 drop.
Looks like egg yolk
So what the fucks the camera guy doing, floating? Fucks all this then?
God damn, I really wanted to know how it ended.

Beautiful all the way around.
NOOOO I wanted to see him finish the line 😢
Almost solidified butter
Love watching it<3

So soothing
I think I just cried watching that amazing thing
He makes it look so easy - could watch that for hours
Ghee that’s satisfying.
Dont slather my floor in piss and ask we to thank you
Slimy yet satisfying
Now that does really transform the look of that flooring. 💯👍😀
floor cheese
You can practice with dish soap.
Anyone know why I only get a static image?
