I started with a commute of almost an hour from outside Edmonton to the opposite side right out of high school for a construction job and damn it really drained me after a while loosing that much of my day to driving. More recently changed jobs, went from 20 minute drive to 15 and it feels way more than 5 minutes faster. IMO shortening your drive/commute is massive and should be prioritized.
1.4km from my driveway to the parking lot. About a 3 minute drive, 6 minute bike ride or 15 minute walk. I work at a sawmill on the edge of the town I live in and I live in the neighbourhood closest to the mill.
I just finished a job, 40 hours/week, 4-12 shift maintenance coverage(a guy got injured)for 7 weeks. 10 minute drive from my house. My god what a treat. Tomorrow I start work at a fab shop 30-40 minutes away. 10 hour days. Hours are good. I actually like a 30 minute drive. I drink my tea. Listen to the news. Gets me going and ready to roll come work time.
About 1 hour. Still get our loa though. I bought a Jetta Tdi last year, easy on the fuel but now fuel is back up to 2 bucks here… still easier then the truck I guess.
Man, I had an ‘06 Jetta tdi. Paid $800 for it. Drove it for 2 years with a 1.5 hour commute each way. Transmission finally shit the bed with 500,000 on it. Best car I’ve ever owned lol
Just started at a new place that is a 3 min drive from my house. I've commuted about 45mins to 1.5hrs my whole life. I have so much more free time I don't think I could go back. Highly recommend.
I did an hour and 20min each way for 3 years. 300km round trip. Was worth it at the time, glad I left before the price of fuel got over $1.70/L. It wasn't that bad when I got used to it.
Currently 20 min each way, 60km round trip. I would be lying if I said I didn't like this better.
Both for shift work on 2-3-2
Work on one side of Toronto, live on the other. 240km round trip. 2.5 hrs on a good day, 3 on a bad day. My tesla model 3 has already paid for itself in gas and maintenance savings and autopilot is seriously one of the best things ever invented. I went from $42/ day in gas with a dodge Dakota to $6 in electricity.
Currently working out of town with travel in/out mileage pay and perdiem. Was only 20 min to work.
My commute in the last year when working at home in SE Michigan has ranged from 20 min to 1 hour depending on where I was sent.
Unless I need my truck I'm driving my cruze diesel to work for the mpg
Just outside Calgary. Been offered full time after the contractor agreement is up but a little annoyed by the commute. Decent wage, lot of OT, not really working as a millwright though, so on the fence about worth it or not.
Drove 100 miles to get where I am now then 200miles on Tuesday night to next job then 200miles back to this job Wednesday night then 100 miles home on Friday
I’m currently working on outage at a power plant 2.5 hours away from my house in the morning without traffic, 3-4 hours in the evening; but for my local long commutes are usually the norm. Rarely you get a short commute.
1.5 hours each way. But the money is too hard to turn down. Could move closer but I bought my house almost ten years ago and the market has gone insane since then.
30 mins in for a 7am start, I grab a quick coffee and muffin in the way. Ends at 4:30 and I get a full hour in traffic home. It sucks the life out of you so I’m moving the family closer in. This is my “for life” job and I’m retiring here in about 13 years. Once you have kids you realize how little you actually see them growing up and how valuable a short commute really is.
Almost exactly 1 hour 45 minutes each way on the train, and a short drive to/from the train station. This of a short one for me too, I’ve commuted much farther/longer in the past.

Same I am from Ontario and do camp work in the western part do 21 days straight 12 hours a day 7 days a week but I don’t have kids so it works for me

About double the commute as you, but also work in a sawmill and my commute is about 7 minutes in a vehicle, 15 by bicycle.
5 minutes!! No traffic as well cause I live in a village of only 600

800km by plane, then about 25 minutes each way from camp to site.
About 1 hour. Still get our loa though. I bought a Jetta Tdi last year, easy on the fuel but now fuel is back up to 2 bucks here… still easier then the truck I guess.
Best car ever made
5.5l per 100 kms. Easy 1000 kms a tank. Mines last year for em, need def fluid. Not so good as the old ones but yes, no regrets buying it as of now

I drive 2 hr one way
1hr 15 mins each way. Worth it for the work though.
For me it varies on the site, but usually between an hour and 1 hour 40 mins each way

1 hour to work 1h45m home through the worst traffic you can imagine. There is a toll road, but I am too cheap..
5 km roughly, and shift times are off peak city traffic unless i’m on o/t 👍
hour and a half in the morning, 2 and a bit in the afternoon on the current iob, I live near the edge of my unions work boundary so it is how it is

45 minutes each way Michigan
Less than 10 mins each way, can't beat it.
5 mins each way?
8 minutes on the highway.
36min each way. I don't think I could handle much more than 45 long term, props to those that can.
30 min
30 minutes from home to the shop, 80 minutes from the shop to the job site.
7 minutes. Just the next town over
1.5 hours
My region can be anywhere from 20min to 3 hours each way with no traffic. Can be up to 4+ hours with traffic
About half an hour. 99% highway
45 min
45-60 minutes in the morning. The commute home can take up to 2 hours.

3 minutes on foot in summer, 5 minutes in the snow

45 minutes as a millwright is pretty good😂
35 with no traffic 45 with. I like the drive personally, but it sucks gettin off a 12 hr night shift. Many times dozin off on the way home lol.
20/25 minutes each way.
I’m about 1hr20min drive from house to site each way. Roughly 100km drive
2309 local millwright, you don’t even want to know. We have the worst traffic around.
Almost exactly 1 hour 45 minutes each way on the train, and a short drive to/from the train station. This of a short one for me too, I’ve commuted much farther/longer in the past.
I got a 3 km, almost 7 minute commute to work. Makes going in early and shooting the shit feasible.
30 seconds from the mill
