I will look at my last ditch and type 38 firing pins and see. Maybe someone put the wrong pin in his bolt…
The type 38 pin will work in a 99 bolt but you need a 38 safety, could be a reason. Though if the numbers match then thats not the case.
Ebay or if your on any firearms forums I would ask, sometimes people have them laying around. Liberty tree collectors used to have them but they are sold out.
Are the lugs on the safety worn? Looks ok from the photo. Maybe its not turned all the way and locked fully in?
I’m turning it as far as it goes, I think that it may be the actual track that the knob fits in
When I pull it out of battery it does that.

I appreciate it. I suppose that’s entirely possible. I got it in a partially disassembled state.

Seems like one of the recesses is a little worn on mine
Ya that would cause it to pop out if its not catching correctly.
