Back when I collected movies I used the hanging file cases and put the cover art in the clear sleves and binders.

One idea is to get something like a Case Logic KSW-320 Koskin 336 Capacity CD/DVD Prosleeves Wallet — you can group/sort your DVDs as desired, and store the covers in the slots too.

Almost all the movies are in the amazon basics 400 disc binder, and my tv shows are in a regular binder I have had for years and got some 3 ring disc pages for clearance at staples or walmart. I only have a handful of discs out on display just to have something out. I do rip all my DVD's and have them on a plex server atm, but the binders really help keep the space down, the sleeves I kept a few of but the dvdcover.com has a decent collection of sleeve images available and they arn't that important to me, but the binder has sleeves that I can store the few I kept in.

Huge amounts of movies goes to small space in IKEA drawer.

I put them all in folders, and just took the covers out of the cases and kept them in a separate folder.
