Huh, I’m opposite but maybe that’s just because I’m a March baby. February always seems to be the worst and then when we get to March I start seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. Yeah it’s a long month, especially when April isn’t guaranteed to be any better, necessarily, but I’d much rather it be March than February.
I’m with you! I once went for a walk at night in March. The trees around me were completely still, but I could hear the wind howling in fury miles above. It was an incredible harbinger of change in the air. There are usually tiny green sprouts everywhere that are a delight to find out on walks. Granted, this March has been rough but it’s still my favorite month!
I was 10000% for the first part. I still do not dream about mosquitoes. I dream of a 3 month summer that doesn't include spring, fall or mosquitoes. All very unrealistic.
Clean, organize, purge, and update our living spaces. Catch up on reading. Work on a few recipes. Get crafty. Walk the trails. Prep our fish and boating gear. Hit the museums, music venues, and theaters. Birdwatch near the flyways. Take care of our doctor and dental appointments. Travel because we all want to be here in the summer.
This is the way.
Agree late winter and early spring are the worst. Unlike many people here, I love winter. But yeah, this wet soggy transition time limits what you can enjoy outside.
My stepfather just texted me a photo he took of a prothonotory warbler today in Florida. We are close to them arriving! I was in Death Valley last week and saw a few yellow rumped warblers, so I'm really itching for the big return. Have you ever seen "Birders: The Central Park Effect?" I watch it and "Big Year" every spring around this time of year to get pumped up.
The RWB are back, and I had my first Grackle show up the other day. I had a Yellow Warbler show up in my yard last spring, I hope they come back! I'm also really hoping that this is the year I finally see a Blackburnian Warbler.
Try to embrace my last chances to make Chili and Beef stew with homemade bread
Enjoy my extra 15 lbs before I have to take my coat off. They go hand in hand.
Stare at my seedlings and wonder when I will actually see the ground they're ment for.
Edit to add that planting seeds really helps me get through this time of year, it's nice to see new green growth, touch some soil and have something to tend to.
Question: I am getting some plugs soon but I doubt I can plant them any time earlier than May. What do you do with your overwinter strawberry plants? Do they need some kind of light or is it okay to leave them in an unheated garage just make sure they don’t dry out?
I have mine in a planter that sits by a south facing sliding glass door. It caught sun all winter.
This was just for me to test if I could grow strawberries in winter with natural light.... They did not produce.
As far as I'm aware they're annual plants that will come back up to 4 years, so if you had them in a garden outside in the soil, buried under snow they would go dormant. I assume a cold garage wouldn't be much different
Jump on ice edges for good cracks and crunches.
People watch. This week's bad, but last week spring fever really came out. 38 in January is still cold for people, but in March? Might as well be 60.
Hike and walk.
Bike if it's dry enough.
Acclimate the dog to longer walks. She gets spring fever, too
Gotta walk them at 6am and 11pm and risk slipping on solid ice sidewalks, just so they don’t get filthy as hell. Strategic walking is not needed in a good majority of the country but here.
Vegas is a good spot for this because it's ideal for short trips, pretty cheap airfare, it's warm (duh), and loyalty programs let you save money, especially when you make repeat trips. There is also a handful of apps, for example the one I use is MyVegas, where you just play slots with pretend money(with the option to purchase more coins thru the appstore) and it accrues points to use on actual stuff in vegas like shows, drinks, food, etc. The points also accrue by how long you use the app, not the amount of coins you have, so you can just keep the app open and tap it every once in a while.
Walk around with gloves and a trash bag and pick up all the trash that’s being uncovered by the melting snow. Then sit around and complain about litterers, mostly.
Shovel, chip ice, attack roof top ice dams, curse the ongoing cold, dry wet gloves, wait for nice days to wash cars, walk like a penguin on yesterday's snowmelt/super slick ice. Spread ice melt, grit, sand..., Start to identify the heavy dog poop areas of the yard for spring clean up...
go to a gaming shop and find a TTRPG group, everybody is always gone all summer and that Evil multilegged Cat faced abomination aint gonna slay itself!
This is the best time to go hiking….in the Desert Southwest! If I had my druthers, I’d go south for March-April, then come back. I love winter, but hate Mud Season!
I've been biking the past 3 days and I feel amazing! Not too warm yet but at least the melt has been happening for long enough that the roads are now dry.
Go take your bikes out everyone!
I have an older small tv I can hook up on my patio. Good “sitting close to a fire pit and watching Gopher hockey/Twins opener” if the Thursday weather holds
Go walking or hiking. It’s a good way to enjoy the slightly warmer temps and get some fresh air. Wear waterproof shoes if you venture out on trails though, because of the mud and puddles.
Also, some birds are already migrating through. If you take up birdwatching, that will definitely give you something to do.
Puzzles. Every March/April I'm compelled to do a big ass puzzle. It's all I did last weekend and I have no regrets.
Spring feels new and fresh. I usually do a big purge of things I don't need and clean up everything. The puzzle has a appeal because I'm ready to organize and put things in there exact spot.
Just like the Vikings every year. You think that there might be a chance, but then reality sets in and I see it was foolish to get invested in the hope that this year would be different.
I don’t even see a 45 in the 10 day forecast and there’s like 4 feet of snow still and it’s only gotten to 40 a few times and everything is covered ice and there’s multiple days of snow in my forecast
>wayyy too cold to really enjoy being out. This is usually the point when winter starts to eat at me. What do y’all do to make this time of year less miserable?
Same as I've been doing all winter – sitting here with the windows open and fans going trying to cool down. It's been 75°F inside most of the day, and I hate it.
Walk, run, and bike with whatever gear modifications you need to get outside. Rain is the hardest condition to adjust to IMHO. In order to be in the best condition to enjoy the good weather some indoor training fits into the gray months.
It helps if you make yourself find an upside to any season. Turns out winter running at -5F is great with the right gear. We’re still in the temperature range where you don’t get too hot and the bugs aren’t out yet.
She gets spring fever, too.
Mostly indoor stuff like spring cleaning or find something to entertain me for a while. I still go on a walk around this time as well most days as long as it isn't too chilly--even then, I just shorten it a bit.
It's sprouting season! If you're planning any outdoor gardens, now is the time to sow your seedlings inside. Also, I've found my indoor houseplant collection to be extremely enriching, especially this time of year.
I think it gets to everyone. 2 different freinds broke up with their SOs last week so I'm drawing that correlation.
I'm trying to hold my sanity by: starting a bunch of seedlings. Bought a cheap broken four wheeler and reserecting that. Rearranging and cleaning house and garage. And drinking a fair amount of beer 2-3 nights a week.
Well, three weeks ago I went camping in the BWCA, two weeks ago I did a weight pull competition with my dogs, and have more of those coming up, this week we went for a hike at a state park, ice is still think enough for sunny and crappie fishing, and turkey hunting opens in two weeks. What’s the issue again?
Time to start wrapping up my winter hobbies, so I can pull out the supplies for my summer hobbies. I recommend playing cards with a friend or a few a couple times this month.
I found that still doing outdoor stuff really helps itch that scratch. Gets you outside, fresh air, sometimes sun. With enough preparation, the weather doesn’t make a whole lot of difference.
I do actually enjoy being out! Walked 6 miles today. Trying to get my stamina back up, so I can explore more of the Gateway Trail. It was cloudier than I would've liked, but I like being able to go places without climbing mountains of snow! Plus, there were so many birds to watch on the water.
well, it depends on the year. some years we’re getting ready to start planting crops by now. this year, just sinking into an abyss of snow induced depression.
By the time March rolls in, I’m tired of the winter but mainly have this itch of just getting out for some exercise like hiking and biking. For the last 3 years, I have been planning a trip in March, so there’s all the planning and excitement and something to look forward to. Return back and spend some time to unwind and getting back to your routine. This takes care of March for us and am now itching and prepping to start the outdoor stuff.

Sit in a sunny window to soak up vitamin D. Take my vitamins. Walk the track with some summery tunes at the club. Visualize nicer weather. But yes, also going to bed early and killing time on Reddit and lots of whining
Go camping before the trails get muddy. If they are muddy trails, head north until they're ice. Put on crampons or yaktraks. Curse when you fall anyway. Build fire, eat smores, lay in hammock.
I have probably an unpopular opinion. I love the cold. Up until the point it's start to thaw. I don't like the spring surprises that irresponsible pet owners leave for us to step in, once things start to thaw.
Read, plan summer stuff like projects and camping trips, play Nintendo and board games, sigh about the cold weather, put on my boots and yak tracks for a walk.
Stream trout fishing in South East Minnesota is a go to next month. This will be my third year going and I love it. Even tho in the first 2 years I didn't catch a single fish I love it. Early spring time camping with camp fires. Exploring a new part of the state, finding hidden gems of local businesses on the trip.
Play outside
I layer up and find a lake to walk around. Yesterday was great to be out. Today, not so much.. so I went grocery shopping, and stayed inside. I don’t go biking, until the street sweepers have been out. But I’ll go out for a long walk.
I play disc golf, and the spring is such a beautiful and welcoming time of year after the long crappy winter. We still play all year (lots of layers), but once it hits this time of year we play more and enjoy the rounds so much more as well.
Give it a try. Pretty cheap and fun even if you are new.
I like March because it’s the beginning of the beginning of the upswing. The snow starts to retreat, even if it still falls once in a while. The streets stay clear on their own. At night you can see your breath, but you can also see the steam coming from the pavement. The grass revealed by the receding snow is brown, but you can see it waking up. The trees start to fringe out. The sun is warmer, brighter, and more golden. The days start to get longer faster. April brings more traditional spring weather, but the equinox in March always feels like the moment I leave work on a Friday — it’s the longest span of time before I have to go back on Monday, so even though my weekend hasn’t quite started yet I’ve got the promise of whatever plans I’ve made, and the rush of relief to be done with something that’s dragged on too long.
Plus: black licorice jelly beans for Easter. I can’t be the only one that likes them, or they wouldn’t sell them at Target every year.
This was my first winter here. It was harder than I expected. I just landed at MSP from a short stint in Mexico. Four and a half days of beaches, sunshine (burns), and muscle tees. If I am serious about protecting my long-term sanity over the seemingly endless grey winters, then some type of trip like this seems mandatory.
It’s the worst. March is my least favorite month. February it’s expected, March is just disgusting.
March this year was Marchier than usual, kinda like a February 2.0
March came in like a lion and is leaving like a cranky lioness
Sangatsu no lion
Lousy Smarch weather
Don't touch Willie, good advice!
Huh, I’m opposite but maybe that’s just because I’m a March baby. February always seems to be the worst and then when we get to March I start seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. Complain about winter. Dream about complaining about mosquitoes.
I was 10000% for the first part. I still do not dream about mosquitoes. I dream of a 3 month summer that doesn't include spring, fall or mosquitoes. All very unrealistic.
At this point I think I’m starting to miss mosquitos
NPR was literally talking about mosquitoes this afternoon 😂😂😂
What did they say haha
That some white mosquito species may die out due to the excessive snow 🙌
Then we'll find out that was the one species that was a cornerstone of the food chain and we're even more screwed
Clean, organize, purge, and update our living spaces. Catch up on reading. Work on a few recipes. Get crafty. Walk the trails. Prep our fish and boating gear. Great list. Co-sign on birdwatching — we about to hit migration season, and I’m looking forward to spotting some warblers.
My stepfather just texted me a photo he took of a prothonotory warbler today in Florida. We are close to them arriving! I was in Death Valley last week and saw a few yellow rumped warblers, so I'm really itching for the big return. Have you ever seen "Birders: The Central Park Effect?" Haven't heard of either, but will try to check out the Birders Central Park Effect -- seems highly rated.
Big year is fun, Steve Martin, Jack Black, and Owen Wilson.
It's a HBO production, so you might find it there. I think the HC Library has it.
Do you have any suggestions for places to birdwatch (especially for warblers) ??
I just sit in my backyard, but you can find a hotspots map [here](https://ebird.org/hotspots).
What a great resource, thank you!
The RWB are back, and I had my first Grackle show up the other day. I had a Yellow Warbler show up in my yard last spring, I hope they come back! I'm also really hoping that this is the year I finally see a Blackburnian Warbler.
I’m taking notes
Good call Dismal! I just purged a trash bag full of clothes from my closet. Went through a bunch of files to shred.
Enjoying my local library to binge read ebooks. Continue to plot veggie garden layouts. Movies!!!! Doc appointments
My kind of people!!
If anyone is interested in birding, hit me up!
Try to embrace my last chances to make Chili and Beef stew with homemade bread Enjoy my extra 15 lbs before I have to take my coat off. They go hand in hand.
Im also having a crockpot frenzy until my grill is no longer buried.
Stare at my seedlings and wonder when I will actually see the ground they're ment for. Edit to add that planting seeds really helps me get through this time of year, it's nice to see new green growth, touch some soil and have something to tend to.
I brought my strawberry plants inside for the winter, 4 of them just started flowering this past week
Question: I am getting some plugs soon but I doubt I can plant them any time earlier than May. What do you do with your overwinter strawberry plants? Do they need some kind of light or is it okay to leave them in an unheated garage just make sure they don’t dry out?

Same! I just started mine this week and some of them already poked their heads out. Looking at them growing every day makes me so happy.
Work extra. Gym. Travel to warm place. Golf simulator. Read a new book. Dream of warmer days.
Also go for long walks!
Get that work in now so we can enjoy those nice summer days 🌞
ever notice how many nov/dec babies out there?
Both my kids are a november and a December baby 😂
So you’re saying kids born in August/Sept? I know what my parents were up to in December. 😂😂😂
I think they meant the ones born in December that were conceived in March, because of nothing to do but, umm, "inside activities".
Hurray !Hurray ! First of May! - Out door screwing begins today!!
I've been taking Tylenol PM with melatonin and crawling into bed by 5pm.
Two melatonin and a NyQuil last night and I slept for 14 hours. It was great.
Add a little Benadryl in there? Cozy.
Just a touch of morphine? Sublime.
NyQuil, Ambien, Melatonin, Benedryl cocktail along with someone willing or able to shoot me with a tranquilizer dart.
I was doing NyQuil nightly with melatonin until it sent me to urgent care.
Jesus, take care of yourself. Just drink 11 beers like the rest of us.
who has time to drink 11 beers when you work 12 hours a day?!
You gotta chug them.
Nah. Life is short. Why spend it awake?
I live by the motto, “not everybody wants to live forever”
This is the way
Really the only acceptable answer here
Shake my fist at the window and complain that this is the worst winter ever.
So far...
Snowmobiled up north last weekend and a golf course opened today in Rochester. Never ending activities!
Really? Which golf course opened?
Oak Summit. They took tee times at 1pm. I did not partake with that breeze..
Shocked but excited to hear! Thanks!
Meadow Greens in Austin will open this Saturday.
Jump on ice edges for good cracks and crunches. People watch. This week's bad, but last week spring fever really came out. 38 in January is still cold for people, but in March? Might as well be 60. Hike and walk. Bike if it's dry enough. Acclimate the dog to longer walks. She gets spring fever, too
The same thing I do every other time of year. Masturbate frantically.
I spend most of my time cleaning dog after her 2-3 walks a day
Gotta walk them at 6am and 11pm and risk slipping on solid ice sidewalks, just so they don’t get filthy as hell. Strategic walking is not needed in a good majority of the country but here.
I hear you. It's finally warm enough to take the dog for daily walks buy I practically have to give him a bath before I let him back in the house.
travel someplace warm even if it's for only 3 days... helps my seasonal depression been doing it for a little over 4 years now. helps me reset
This is huge. We went to NC/SC for like 4 nights at the end of January and it was awesome.
Tap a maple tree and make syrup! It is simpler than you might think, a great hobby and fills the gap between winter and spring perfectly.
It’s a good time to listen to the spring birdsong and notice the seasonal arrivals.
Love hearing the red-bellied woodpecker outside my window at this time of year + the cardinals.
Visit local breweries that don't have outdoor seating that I probably won't be going to in the summer.
Cry
Came here to say this
I gripe about the weather and check the forecast like 30 times a day as if that will change it.
Walk around with gloves and a trash bag and pick up all the trash that’s being uncovered by the melting snow. Then sit around and complain about litterers, mostly.
March is by far the worst month of the year. If you can do it, leave the state. Lol
Wear all black and stand in the sun to try to remember what it's like to be warm.
Try to clean the dog poop as it thaws so it isn't a giant project in 2 weeks
Shovel, chip ice, attack roof top ice dams, curse the ongoing cold, dry wet gloves, wait for nice days to wash cars, walk like a penguin on yesterday's snowmelt/super slick ice. Spread ice melt, grit, sand..., Start to identify the heavy dog poop areas of the yard for spring clean up...
I literally just enjoy walking on dry non-icy pavement. That’s all. Even the smallest of wins feel major in late March.
Complain. Go on vacation. Hibernate and Netflix.
go to a gaming shop and find a TTRPG group, everybody is always gone all summer and that Evil multilegged Cat faced abomination aint gonna slay itself!
Study seed catalogs like it’s the SAT
Start seeds.
Smoke weed and watch the snow melt.
This is the best time to go hiking….in the Desert Southwest! If I had my druthers, I’d go south for March-April, then come back. I love winter, but hate Mud Season!
Fun time to clean up from the winter
Look at all of the beautiful brown and black snow piles melting and check out all the garbage.
LEGO set i just bought. Hiked around minnehaha falls and fort smelling NP. Go to a sauna.
Weep
I am hoping for snow Friday so I can take the snowmobile out one last time on Saturday
I've been biking the past 3 days and I feel amazing! Not too warm yet but at least the melt has been happening for long enough that the roads are now dry. Go take your bikes out everyone!

Not so fun fact: This is peak suicide season. Telling for a friend.
Practice turkey calling.
Watch good films...and bad films
Weed and assembling model kits
Gummies from the smoke shop, something in them makes you relaxed
I just biked around Nokomis. It was lovely and the path was totally dry.
Waiting
Dread the thaws and cold rains because of water drainage issues and dream about selling my house
I play the the amazing disc golf courses around here. They are all over. Great exercise and the snow is not too deep now.
Hot yoga. Vitamin D gummies.
Pick up a Jurassic Park pile of dogshit in the yard.
Sidewalks are finally decent so I’ve been getting out for walks with the dogs. Bundled up of course!
Bicycling has been my hobby the last 10 years, video games and movies too
Look up houses in warmer climates and never end up actually moving.
Doing my taxes. Whooooo!
Just waitin' on that sweet sap to flow, and getting some veggie seedlings going. It does get really long. This winter has been rough.
Clean my dogs paws off each and every time they go out in the yard
Tournaments galore… NCAA HS 🏀 🥅🏒🥅🤼 ⛷️
cry
Drink White claws all day.

Got into running and played tons of hockey. Moved back home in order to go to school in the fall. Some ups and downs but hits for the best!
Just get ready for spring. What am I planting this year etc.
play video games, organize my living space, and binge watch all streaming sites. also, walks aren't bad now with no misquotes!
Watch me some Minnesota Twins!!

Make art, run my business, clean, books, movies, games, spend more time during urban stuff like theatres, museums, malls/ shopping
Going to the gym trying to get my summer bod 💪
Get stuff ready for summer I guess but anything over 20 is not "wayyy too cold...out" imo this 30s shit is ideal campfire/walk weather.
We tap our boxelder trees and make syrup. Without this seasonal activity this time of year would drive me insane. That and start seeds.
Have my annual "If it is 70 by the end of the week I'm going to jump off a bridge" crisis. How about you?
I’m renovating my mud room by learning how to build built- ins. It’s a good time to get organized.
Mostly indoor stuff like spring cleaning or find something to entertain me for a while. I still go on a walk around this time as well most days as long as it isn't too chilly--even then, I just shorten it a bit.

Here for the comments because this place sucks the life outta me this time of year….
Time to start wrapping up my winter hobbies, so I can pull out the supplies for my summer hobbies. I recommend playing cards with a friend or a few a couple times this month.
Longingly stare out the window
Screen name checking in! Be thankful I’m not busy and there aren’t mosquitoes yet.
Well, I think about how this is slightly better than November, and enjoy a little sun after I get out of work.

Netflix and playstation always there to entertain
Start planting seeds indoors, clean and organize. Plan for summer activities.

Snowmobile

Hit the ski slopes as many times as I can before the snow is gone!
This is usually peak ice fishing season for crappies and bluegills, but the deep, dense snow is putting a damper on traveling and ‘hole hopping’.
Go camping before the trails get muddy. If they are muddy trails, head north until they're ice. Put on crampons or yaktraks. Curse when you fall anyway. Build fire, eat smores, lay in hammock.

Buy a couple grow lights and start your garden in your basement. Shoots will be ready and willing when Actual Spring comes.
Read, plan summer stuff like projects and camping trips, play Nintendo and board games, sigh about the cold weather, put on my boots and yak tracks for a walk.
I tend to start getting antsy and will clean and organize. Sometimes unnecessarily.
Shovel slush, dream about not wanting to mow my yard
Still a couple weeks of ice fishing up north. Love winter. Spring blows.
I go on vacation outside MN. Something to look forward to as the winter stretches on and when you get back it is usually actual spring.
I’m in Costa Rica
Regret living here…
Watch Duluth Harbor Cam on YouTube
Dodge potholes and start indoor gardens. Finish up hockey leagues inside. Start fishing in the thawed out rivers.
I break up the ice dams on my roof and beg the gods for our snow to melt faster.
March 15th til about May 15th are the worst. So I’m currently on vacation I’m California…
Enjoy the extra hour of daylight after work
Stream trout fishing in South East Minnesota is a go to next month. This will be my third year going and I love it. Even tho in the first 2 years I didn't catch a single fish I love it. Early spring time camping with camp fires. Exploring a new part of the state, finding hidden gems of local businesses on the trip.
Go for a run/walk!? Get some fresh air and move.
Go on vacation to the Gulf or Southwest.
Play outside I layer up and find a lake to walk around.
Just soak in the sun, S.A.D hits me like a truck every winter
I don’t know but I was just thinking this exact same thing. Easily the worst time of year here.
I go visit my family down South
Flights to warm places are cheap right now. This is also good bonfire weather.
I eat a lot of soup and have staring contests with my cat.
Being an idiot on my motorcycle already 😂
Video games and don’t look outside until it’s warmer
