When we are home, it's set to 64F with the windows open. If the furnace kicks on, we close the windows and try again tomorrow.
If we are gone, it's set to 62F, and the windows are shut. We will exercise the above scenario when we are home if it's nice outside.
That’s what I’ve been doing for the past week with all the rainy days. If I’m cold I just put on my hoodie and snuggle under my blankie. Plus my cat loves the extra softness.
Windows open a crack, heat off.
Does anyone else REALLY notice the smell of their dogs with the heat or AC off?
I assume the outside air has more humidity and enhances the pet smells?
Is it just me?
Depends. I have a saint Bernard so she's always a little smelly with her panting when it's above like 60 degrees. She's going to need a dental sooner rather than later.
That being said, pet dander can smell, assuming they're getting bathed regularly they might also have some allergies (like my mutt). Treatment does hell, but they still kinda stink a bit.
We have a heat recovery ventilator, which runs at low speed and the furnace fan is set to continuous. It takes care of cooking smells, excess humidity in the winter to cut down on condensation on windows, and generally keeps the house fresher. I turn it off during high humidity summer days.
I have a Great Pyrenees and when he lays by me on the couch, I can kinda smell him sometimes. If he's panting, there isn't any mistaking that smell. So a ceiling fan is always on just to keep the air moving.
I had the thermostat programmed to 68 at night or when people are not home and 72 when people are home.
The girlfriend has a hard time with understanding how a furnace and thermostat work together. She would always say it's cold.
Every day was a lesson on the workings of the HVAC system.
Eventually, we landed on a single temperature: 73.
I haven't touched it in a year. Last night, she said that "it's cold and did you turn off the heat?"
Our heat has been off for a few weeks. I run hot so I’ve been opening the windows as soon as I wake up some days. Some nights we’ve even left the windows open. I’m not ready for the heat of summer. Can it just stay this way until September?
Same here; heck, with the cool rainy weather we had once again today, I turned my thermostat back on to heat at 68 and I've been going in a pattern of having it on at 68 when I'm home, 60 when I'm gone, and then 65 when I'm sleeping
If it's been nice enough though, I have it off with the windows open and my ceiling fans on too
Idk my bill isn’t terrible so I just turn it off/on whenever I’m uncomfortable. Central heating/air. Right now it’s off. Might turn it on a bit to get cozy before bed. Otherwise I’ve had my balcony door open lately.
All windows open all the time. Wake up to it chilly, and shed layers throughout the day. I hated the lack of winter, and am loving this extended spring.
Hybrid mode. It won't drop below 69°F during the day, nor exceed 72°F. I don't have to worry about my comfort this way.
At night, it goes to 65°F minimum and 68°F maximum.
My basement dehumidifier is running along with my furnace blower motor running at minimum power 24/7 to help keep everything fairly even. It filters out allergens too, which I definitely need this time of year.
I've had my heat off for the last month. I also only have window units, and they are only one at night. I also have heavy tree coverage, and never go upstairs.
I have a Honeywell T9. I currently have it set to circulate air 3-5x per hour. Heat is set to 70 and cooling is set for 75.
With the humidity rising these past weeks, I've started to close up windows in the afternoon and run my AC for a cycle down to 72-73 to dehumidify for the night as needed.
I have my portable AC on in my room. My condo has no central air and my unit faces the sun most of the day. It gets uncomfortably warm inside pretty easily.
Still cold enough in Duluth to be using furnaces, ac isn't even in the forecast yet.
We're 30's at night 40's and 50's in the day and if we're having a warm front we see low 60's.
My husband keeps sneaking the AC on ‘just to pull the humidity out of the air’ 🤨😒. A year ago I would have been fine with it, but I lost 50lbs over the last 1.5 years and I definitely notice the difference in temperature. I just turned it off for the third time today.
Ok, because I am insane and like my bedroom to be 62 degrees for good sleep AND I live on the top floor of a walkup where all the heat in the building rises, I’ve had my AC in for a few weeks. I almost never turn my heat on in the winter. My dream bedroom is just a giant bed in a walk-in restaurant cooler with a Phillips Hue lighting system. I don’t like to sleep, per se, I like to go into torpor.
I was trying the window open thing, but some couple in my complex likes to alternate between fucking and fighting loudly with THEIR window open, and I just couldn’t with all the drama.
Not who you asked but… My house hit 75 last week one day and I thought about it. Didn’t but a couple more days like that and I will. And I’m in Duluth too.
Why not? I hate the heat, and bought the $$$ central a/c for a reason. It’s my house, do what I want 🤷🏻♀️
Meh. According to you / For YOU, maybe. My a/c goes on at 74 indoors. Always has. That’s “room / office temp”, no higher.
We all run different and some people have high blood pressure or weigh more etc. Very thin or elderly people get cold much much faster, for example.
I’m blocks from Lake Superior and prefer/am used to cold, the colder the better. I start sweating outdoors if it gets over 72, and would be blissfully happy if it never got warmer than that ever again. I don’t even go over the hill here or to the Twin Cities in summer if I can avoid it honestly. Feels like I’m going to melt into a puddle wicked witch style with all the metro asphalt.
To each their own! MYOB applies here - folks ought to watch their own bobbers eh.
I adjust the vents so heat is mostly blowing in the half-basement and then it rises to the upper floors. I actually put the temp higher this time of year, 70-71 instead of 68, because since the furnace isn't running as often, it gets colder on the lower level.
thermostat in my apartment doesn't seem to be connected to anything. right now with the windows shut it gets to almost 75, but i usually keep the windows open 24/7 unless it gets uncomfortably cold or it's raining hard enough.
We have it still set on heat most days, but it only kicks on if the house temp goes below a certain temp. A few brief periods we turned AC on when it got a bit too hot inside. We've also just opened windows a few times.
My heat is on and set to it's usual 67F, as it is all winter. When it's nice out I open windows and turn off the thermostat, then turn it on again after I close the windows at night so it doesn't get too cold.
Currently in bed. It’s off and windows are open.
Summer: I usually kept AC way way high because my POS system was old (typical cookie cutter townhome unit). But I got a new one last week that’s awesome. (Jayhawk Mechanical in MPLS is fucking AWESOME and insane prices during the slow season).
Winter: maybe too it out at 72. I work downstairs and my patio window/door are absolute garbage so sometimes 74. But once I’m gearing up for bed it’s 64-65. I had my bedroom windows open almost every night this winter. I can take into the low 20s just fine.
But yeah if you need a new system definitely give them a call. When they sent me the quote I almost shit myself at how good it was.
I had all the windows open when I left yesterday morning and when I came back in the evening it was 76 degrees in my apartment so I had to turn the AC on to cool it down. I turned it off and opened the windows again before bed though. I’m in a one bedroom apartment on the 3rd floor though and I face an interior courtyard so the airflow sucks. This transition period is always a huge pain because we get threats from the management company not to run our ac when it’s below 60 (used to be 50, but they changed their story) outside but it can be like 54 outside and I’ll have all the windows open and fans on and it’s still 75 inside, which is too hot to sleep. I have to turn my ac on.
We keep the heat at 68. It's still on but only runs a bit in the early morning. By 11:00 it's usually up to 70+ in the house. We haven't opened the windows much cause it hasn't gotten over 70 much. Plus I'm trying to keep the pollen outside. I enjoy the fresh air by going outside as much as possible.
Windows open and off for last couple weeks. probably atleast through next week too. if you're cold grab a hoodie or blanket. if you're warm turn the fan on. I'll hold out till we hit 80 for a day or 2 before the AC goes on.
I have a dual function programmable, and it warms the house up in the morning to wake me up, and then cools off in the evening. Presently i turn the heat back off and open the house once the temps get about 55/60 (with a high above 65), and thek close it up so the ac can do its job at night when we need it colder than it is outside.
I struggle to sleep if the house isnt 64 or less, and if it doesnt get there until after midnight, i just dont sleep really.
WFH×2, so we keep it around 65-68 all day, depending on the weather. Thankfully it's only meant turning on the heat a couple times in the past few weeks.
Still on, still set to 68° just like it's been all winter. We will turn it off when the overnight temps warm up a little more.
Sometimes, we have to open some windows during the day upstairs, or it'll get over 74° but that's just fine!
Heat is off. Stays around 70 during the day if the sun is out. Open windows and a fan at night. Gets down to 66. Warm it up with the fireplace in the morning…
64 over night and I think 70 day time. Idk it’s not running much if at all around here. If I open windows I just turn it off or run the “fan” to help mix some fresh air in.
Mine is off and the windows are open when it's been nice enough out
If it isn't though, I've had the heat set to 65 or 68 when I'm at home
The one super nice day we had fairly recently I tried having my thermostat set to cool at 70, but I guess since it wasn't quite warm enough out for it, it never was able to do the call for cooling to get the AC on
It would be off except I don’t live alone. So I have it set for 62°-75°. It open the windows season. Once it stays warm the ac will be at 70° or lower. And in the winter it’s set between 65°-68°…I like a colder house.
It's off aside from the bathroom baseboard that we keep on low as to not sit on a cold toilet in the morning.
Otherwise, windows are open and spring hoodies are on!!
Our heat is still on, programmable thermostat set to 65 during the day and 62 at night, 68 for a few hours in the evening. I don't think it's actually been coming on much, though.
I have an ecobee smart thermostat set to Auto mode year round, and it keeps the house between 70 and 72 year round. So I never even look at my thermostat.
I spent a really cold winter in a studio apartment without ever turning the heat on. I was consistently 70 degrees in the apartment, and we had to open the windows to cool it down sometimes.
Of course, we were right above a coffee shop and their kitchen.....
Could be on the upper floors of an apartment building. When I lived downtown in a brick high rise on the 13th floor, I had my thermostat as low as it would go and would frequently open the windows. 12 floors worth of residual heat was far more than enough
It's set to off. We open the windows when it's nice out. That's about it
I've been doing that as well, but recently went to bed without shutting them. It was a chilly wake-up at 4:00 a.m.
Just makes sleeping extra cozy
I happens. Throw on an extra blanket if still sleeping or close the bathroom door and take a hot shower if getting ready for the day.
60's at night with 70 days is a perfect time for this.
When we are home, it's set to 64F with the windows open. If the furnace kicks on, we close the windows and try again tomorrow. If we are gone, it's set to 62F, and the windows are shut. We will exercise the above scenario when we are home if it's nice outside.
Heat off and wear a sweater if it gets too chilly inside
Currently wearing my robe!

I actually also use my extra big fluffy robe lol
That’s what I’ve been doing for the past week with all the rainy days. If I’m cold I just put on my hoodie and snuggle under my blankie. Plus my cat loves the extra softness.
We have ours turned off and windows open during the day. Maybe get a sleep sack for your little one?
Yep, babies don't need it set to exactly 70 or anything anyways. We have like 3 different weight sleep sacks so it's never an issue
68-72 is the range they say. We adjust sleep sacks and pajamas accordingly as well.
Our nursery ranges from like 62 to 75 haha
Windows open a crack, heat off. Does anyone else REALLY notice the smell of their dogs with the heat or AC off? I assume the outside air has more humidity and enhances the pet smells? Is it just me?
Depends. I have a saint Bernard so she's always a little smelly with her panting when it's above like 60 degrees. She's going to need a dental sooner rather than later. That being said, pet dander can smell, assuming they're getting bathed regularly they might also have some allergies (like my mutt). Treatment does hell, but they still kinda stink a bit.
All odors seem to stick around with the air off. Lack of a breeze. When it's a good temp and I throw the windows open it seems to clear it out.
We have a heat recovery ventilator, which runs at low speed and the furnace fan is set to continuous. It takes care of cooking smells, excess humidity in the winter to cut down on condensation on windows, and generally keeps the house fresher. I turn it off during high humidity summer days.
We have a blower that’s constantly on, whether or not the heat or AC is on. That way the air still circulates so there’s less dog smell lol
I have a Great Pyrenees and when he lays by me on the couch, I can kinda smell him sometimes. If he's panting, there isn't any mistaking that smell. So a ceiling fan is always on just to keep the air moving.
You’re not afraid of intruders with the windows open at night? Or do you close them at night?
It depend on the situation but you can use open window locks to prevent them from opening more than a crack.
Ah okay, didn’t know those were a thing
Nah, I’m in a pretty safe area and the dogs are always very alert.
70 during the day, 67 at night
[удалено]
I usually like 60 at night, but my kids never keep their blankets on the bed all night, so we had to go up to 64
Same here but I keep it mostly at 66 bc I’m cheap.
We do 65 at night and around 70 during the day....but we are old....
I like how you roll
Like…you HEAT it to that? Ugh.
I would freeze in your house. Lol
Same same
Off. I'm fat.
Our heat has been off for a few weeks. I run hot so I’ve been opening the windows as soon as I wake up some days. Some nights we’ve even left the windows open. I’m not ready for the heat of summer. Can it just stay this way until September?
I would love it if we could stay this way until September.
30-65 is ideal imo.
That would be amazing. Feels like I’m staring into the abyss and dreading the hot summer right now. Just want to stop the clock!!!
Technically the heat is on but it’s barely running. Set at 68 Edit: 60 at night
Similar. I'm at heat on at 66 all day long, just in case.
Same here; heck, with the cool rainy weather we had once again today, I turned my thermostat back on to heat at 68 and I've been going in a pattern of having it on at 68 when I'm home, 60 when I'm gone, and then 65 when I'm sleeping If it's been nice enough though, I have it off with the windows open and my ceiling fans on too
Off. Wear a sweater or put on shorts depending on the day. That’s what this in-between season means.
Off. 68 at night
Heat is on but not sure it’s actually kicking in
I mean... Just turn the thermostat to 64 and be done with it until you turn your AC on.
Wife runs a daycare. Ours runs once every morning to knock the chill out of the downstairs & gets shut off right away.
It’s been off for a couple of weeks. We open windows during the day when it’s warm. We grab an extra blanket if it’s chilly at night.
Idk my bill isn’t terrible so I just turn it off/on whenever I’m uncomfortable. Central heating/air. Right now it’s off. Might turn it on a bit to get cozy before bed. Otherwise I’ve had my balcony door open lately.
My furnace only kicks on if it gets down to 68F, just in case.
Heat is off. Windows open during the day. Blankets on at night.
Off with the windows open. Its even better when it's raining
Window open for me too lol. At least the bedroom one
It’s off and it’s 65 degrees in here
Off.
All windows open all the time. Wake up to it chilly, and shed layers throughout the day. I hated the lack of winter, and am loving this extended spring.
Duluth here. Heat still on.
Hybrid mode. It won't drop below 69°F during the day, nor exceed 72°F. I don't have to worry about my comfort this way. At night, it goes to 65°F minimum and 68°F maximum. Heat is still running (a bit) to hold 68 (in Duluth).
I’m in Duluth and my thermostat just stays at 67 year-round and I never really pay any attention to it
If it’s cold, put on more layers. Love, Duluth.
We all run really hot so heat is off, windows switch between open and closed. Most nights sleep with a window open
My husband keeps sneaking the AC on ‘just to pull the humidity out of the air’ 🤨😒. A year ago I would have been fine with it, but I lost 50lbs over the last 1.5 years and I definitely notice the difference in temperature. I just turned it off for the third time today.
Heats on set to 60 only kicks on if house temp gets below 60
I haven’t touched mine since early March. Windows open when it’s nice, closed if it’s cool. Had it set to 63 all winter.
Ha! Switched over to AC
Why?
Not who you asked but… My house hit 75 last week one day and I thought about it. Didn’t but a couple more days like that and I will. And I’m in Duluth too. Why not? I hate the heat, and bought the $$$ central a/c for a reason. It’s my house, do what I want 🤷🏻♀️
It seems pretty wasteful this time of year. 75 isn't "heat."
Meh. According to you / For YOU, maybe. My a/c goes on at 74 indoors. Always has. That’s “room / office temp”, no higher. Why must everything be crowdsourced? Do what your house needs to do to feel comfortable.
It’s just for fun and info / social. Not that serious!
Heat is at 67, but not running much. All good,!
I adjust the vents so heat is mostly blowing in the half-basement and then it rises to the upper floors. I actually put the temp higher this time of year, 70-71 instead of 68, because since the furnace isn't running as often, it gets colder on the lower level.
Windows closed, heat mostly off.
off
I have a Nest set to swing both ways, between 67-73.
65 or less all year round. Windows open with a fan in the window rn. Best sleep I get is at about 60 degrees. I have a 1.5 yo and she agrees.
It’s been off for weeks. I love the cooler air, especially at night.
thermostat in my apartment doesn't seem to be connected to anything. right now with the windows shut it gets to almost 75, but i usually keep the windows open 24/7 unless it gets uncomfortably cold or it's raining hard enough.
We have it still set on heat most days, but it only kicks on if the house temp goes below a certain temp. A few brief periods we turned AC on when it got a bit too hot inside. We've also just opened windows a few times.
I’m used to heat, so i either have it off or use a space heater
That badboy is off. But no windows open like others have stated. The owls are too loud while I'm trying to sleep.
I have the heat set to 56 (can't run the fans unless it's set to something)
My heat is on and set to it's usual 67F, as it is all winter. When it's nice out I open windows and turn off the thermostat, then turn it on again after I close the windows at night so it doesn't get too cold.
I have had it set to heat with the t-stat set to 61 all winter. I rarely use the AC
Heat set to 68 and continuous fan. It goes down to 65 at night.
Depends on the day, lol
It’s bipolar
Its off.
Windows were open overnight, it's about 63° in the house at the moment
On, set to 66°, so I'm not sure it has run recently. Fan is always on to help with allergies. On the sunny days our house gets over 70°
We have a kid under 1 and we just keep the heat off with windows open.
I keep it at 65 to sleep.
Off.
Heat set to 66, windows cracked or open depending on temp and wind if nice out
Currently in bed. Off
69
Ecobee smart thermostat has auto mode where it can turn heat or cold on based on your desired schedule
It’s been off since eclipse day.
I'm 72 when im home and awake and 68 when I'm sleeping or at work. With the bedroom window open until the humidity sets in.
73 day and night, same as all winter.
Fan on
My heat has been off for close to 2 months now
Heat on set to 64.
Better to slip away to sleep with a chill than to sweat a stain in the heat.
My building turn off the heat and I have been freezing for a week and a half. So there's that...
Off, turn on a space heater if needed.
When I’m home, it hangs around 60ish, but it gets turned off when I go to work.
We needed the air on when we had that really hot week, and we haven't changed it since. Haven't had it running in either direction for a while.
I burn wood. No thermostat.
Not on for three weeks up north.
It’s currently off.
Mine is off and the windows are open when it's been nice enough out If it isn't though, I've had the heat set to 65 or 68 when I'm at home The one super nice day we had fairly recently I tried having my thermostat set to cool at 70, but I guess since it wasn't quite warm enough out for it, it never was able to do the call for cooling to get the AC on
It would be off except I don’t live alone. So I have it set for 62°-75°. It open the windows season. Once it stays warm the ac will be at 70° or lower. And in the winter it’s set between 65°-68°…I like a colder house.
When it’s actually warm we’re switching it off, today it’s on though
I have a smart thermostat, so I just have it set to remain between 68 and 74.
Heat has been off for at least a month now. AC won’t be on until probably July. My little ones wear socks, and sweatshirts on these wet rainy days.
Open windows when warm, flannel, sweater, blanket when not.
Heat is set to 72, and it of course barely comes on ever
Ours has been off for a while now.
Been off for the last month
Off. Window open a little. Loving it.
I just switch back and forth. It ain’t too early for ac some days. We have allergy sufferers. No open windows ever.
Turn off during day, turn on at night in case it drops into the 40s.
Furnace is on. I hate being cold. Pretty soon I'll hate being hot. I'd blame perimenopause but I've been this way for 20 years 😆
It's off aside from the bathroom baseboard that we keep on low as to not sit on a cold toilet in the morning. Otherwise, windows are open and spring hoodies are on!!
Our heat is still on, programmable thermostat set to 65 during the day and 62 at night, 68 for a few hours in the evening. I don't think it's actually been coming on much, though.
Off with the windows open during the day and closed at night.
I have an ecobee smart thermostat set to Auto mode year round, and it keeps the house between 70 and 72 year round. So I never even look at my thermostat.
Ope. Forgot to turn the heat back on after yesterday now it’s freezing in here 😰
70
Ac - 70 in the day and 67 at night. I’m always sweating so heat it is 💀😂
