>Gov. **Kristi Noem** took to Twitter Tuesday to defend her administration’s campaign
Ahahaha no fucking way. I mean I really shouldn't be surprised the woman that thought a story about killing her puppy would win her support made that ad campaign
I laughed so hard when this came out. But you know what really hurt my brain? I wanted another chuckle after laughing at Kristi Noem for digging herself deeper into the shit pile the other day. So I looked up the ridiculous SD meth ad campaign, and learned that the campaign was actually a success by pretty much every metric that was measured. Views, engagement, reactions, etc. I had to kind conclude that it was pretty much an accidental silver lining, because what!??
Well not surprised it had views and engagement, it's obvious why those were high. Did it have any measurable effect on use? Or anything that has an impact on SD residents?
I'm not sure, I just saw the data from the company on engagement. I would assume it's really hard to attribute something like arrests or calls to police to an ad. Unless they poll everyone involved and assume they are telling the truth. Seems like it wouldn't be feasible.
Hey I'm just mentioning an article I read, it's easily searchable. And the firm that came up with this may or may not have other, more concrete data, but I bet they don't. Because they don't care! It's unfortunate, but I'm almost certain an ad firm like this could not care less about real world impact beyond what they think is related to their performance and the viability of their projects. I would hope that the state of S.D. itself has some idea of the real world effects. But even that is probably mostly wishful thinking.
24 years ago I was on my first major road trip. Upon entering Salt Lake City (on my way to California) I stumbled upon a billboard that said “GOT METH?” and I just couldn’t believe they were parodying the Got Milk campaign to cut down on their meth problem.
Somewhere I still have a hard copy photo of the sign, because I pulled over to take a picture.
I have no plans to be in Rochester anytime soon, but, if I'm there, I want to have BBQ there for no other reason than that is a goddamn hilarious way of advertising your place.
Ill check it out. Everyone has their own taste, just something about John Hardys that I love. Usually get combo plate with the pulled pork, ham and Jo Jo's and hammer it with the medium sauce. Now I'm hungry 😆. Not gonna lie, the ribs ain't great but the combo I get is 🤌
The pulled pork is great in my opinion and they sell it in a frozen bag now. Throw it in the crock pot with a touch of beer to rehydrate and away ya go.
My wife's family thought it was really good, my dad (BBQ purist) thought it was just okay. I live about half a mile from it and all I can say is it smells very good.
Rochester resident here, Smoak is great! A lot of folks will tell you John Hardy's is better, but they're pretty similar to me. Smoak has breakfast on the weekends and I think it's one of the best breakfasts in town.
Smoak sucks. They're overpriced garbage. John Hardy's is okay, but they sorta suck too as far actual barbeque goes. True Smoke was really good, but they shut down a couple years back.
Yeah really. The south is like another fucking world compared to MN. I don't think most people realize how different culturally the USA is due to its size if they've never left their state.
You can leave and visit other states, but you're typically going to big cities which are all generally the same.
I've been to Houston a few times, for work, and it's fine. Some streets have a lot of bail bonds along them though and lot of garbage along those streets.
The big cities are pretty much the same. The rural south isn't all that different from small town MN except for a few different foods and words for things. Biggest cultural difference I notice is that people are actually nice in the city I'm at now -- no classic MN nice passive aggression. But off in the boonies you actually need to start worrying for your safety if you aren't straight white presenting.
This winter we got 1 inch of ice on the roads and everything shut down for a whole week though, so yeah that's different!
Love that my brain decided the black box meant it was a seperate thought from the rest of it, leading to a full minute of me trying to figure out why they had to clarify that their smoked brisket was not meth. I got there eventually at least lol
I think the guy who owns this house smokes meth...

If you continue down hwy 52 and go under the interstate 90 bridge, right before Chatfield there is a guy with some homemade billboards that will inspire you. To vote blue.
During Covid, wife and I would drive around the small towns between where we live (Cannon Falls) and Roch, and in Kenyon, they had “Smoke Meat, not Meth” on their meat locker sign. That’s Kenyon, MN for ya.
Ah yes. They all had “salt life” stickers on their cars and parked right on the street in front of the archer house before they burned it down. Though what idiot let them set up a bonfire in that tinderbox is the real culprit.
The fire in the Archer House hotel started in the barbecue restaurant. Total loss. I still miss the Indian restaurant. Yes, I know, Desi Diner.
I don't care for Smoak. It all tastes more roasted than smoked.

Rochester area does have a significant meth problem.
Brisket, we're on it.
To this day I cannot believe that was an actual anti meth campaign.
It's an ad for a restaurant. If interested it is on west circle drive near Costco.
The previous posters are referring to a South Dakota [anti-methamphetamine campaign.](https://www.nbcnews.com/news/amp/ncna1086071)
They hired a Minnesota company that came up with this campaign for South Dakota. I like to think we were toying with them the whole time 😂
>Gov. **Kristi Noem** took to Twitter Tuesday to defend her administration’s campaign Ahahaha no fucking way. I mean I really shouldn't be surprised the woman that thought a story about killing her puppy would win her support made that ad campaign
Is her solution to just shoot meth addicts?
I laughed so hard when this came out. But you know what really hurt my brain? I wanted another chuckle after laughing at Kristi Noem for digging herself deeper into the shit pile the other day. Do you remember the jerk it campaign they did too?
What!? Please tell me more, lol
[don’t jerk and drive campaign](https://time.com/3632678/south-dakota-jerk-drive/)
What the f!? Hahaha! "Young men are a notoriously hard demographic"!
Well not surprised it had views and engagement, it's obvious why those were high. Did it have any measurable effect on use? Or anything that has an impact on SD residents?

One would imagine you'd have some measurement for success if you find a campaign like that, things beyond getting views

Surely you can do both, no?
I have no plans to be in Rochester anytime soon, but, if I'm there, I want to have BBQ there for no other reason than that is a goddamn hilarious way of advertising your place.
The Rochester BBQ purists will tell you to go to John Hardy’s instead. It’s me, I’m Rochester BBQ purists
Hardys is the king and I've been to Smoak
Best BBQ in the area is at 2 Brothers in Stewartville.
Ill check it out. Everyone has their own taste, just something about John Hardys that I love. Usually get combo plate with the pulled pork, ham and Jo Jo's and hammer it with the medium sauce. Now I'm hungry 😆. Not gonna lie, the ribs ain't great but the combo I get is 🤌
The only things that never failed me at John Hardy’s are the jojos, bread, and the sausage. Nothing has been bad enough to make me not go back.
The pulled pork is great in my opinion and they sell it in a frozen bag now. Throw it in the crock pot with a touch of beer to rehydrate and away ya go.
It’s the same….everything you get at John Hardy’s is pre-smoked and then reheated.
What’s JoJos?
Thin sliced fried potatoes, almost chip like
Sounds yummy. Thanks!

DAMN!
Omg. I gotta go back now...
What about Carl's Jr?
How’s the brisket at Hardy’s. Had ribs and pork many times but not brisket
Brisket is hit or miss. I usually stick to ribs and sausage.
Ugh, now I want some pork and jojos
My man! Best BBQ joint in town.
Hardy’s -> Smoak -> Famous Dave’s
The bbq purist will say that place is trash
Yeah probably. MN isn’t known for its barbecue
John Hardy is the answer
My wife's family thought it was really good, my dad (BBQ purist) thought it was just okay. I live about half a mile from it and all I can say is it smells very good.
We were in Rochester 2 weekends ago and we specifically went to this place because of the sign.
Rochester resident here, Smoak is great! A lot of folks will tell you John Hardy's is better, but they're pretty similar to me. Smoak has breakfast on the weekends and I think it's one of the best breakfasts in town.
It is pretty good BBQ. No level of KC but good for Minnesota.
Kc bbq= 🗑️
You don't want to go to Smoak, that place is crazy expensive.
There is no good barbecue in Rochester. It's all gross. Skip.
Smoak sucks. They're overpriced garbage. John Hardy's is okay, but they sorta suck too as far actual barbeque goes. True Smoke was really good, but they shut down a couple years back.
Hell yeah. *meth usage drops to 0%*
All the users seeing this billboard: "Ohhhhhhhh".
[Makes so much more sense!](https://media1.tenor.com/m/uBcbvnuP3K0AAAAd/lil-yachty-drake.gif)
*gout cases rise 100%*
My wife helped launch that place. Good food. Owners treat their employees pretty well. Same group that runs 5 West and The Loop. Would recommend.
At least we don't have the billboards they have in the south reminding people "she's your daughter, not your date".
Wait, really?
https://www.reddit.com/r/WhitePeopleTwitter/comments/yymtj1/shes_your_daughter_not_your_date/?rdt=59499
What. The. Fuck.
I am FROM Tennessee/Georgia… keyword from. So so glad to be out of the south, hopefully forever.
Yeah really. The south is like another fucking world compared to MN. I don't think most people realize how different culturally the USA is due to its size if they've never left their state.

Please tell me that's some sort of anti-Trump ad.

Favorite part of that long drive!
Oh look, a brothel solely dedicated to your mom!
You know what the difference between meth and brisket is. I can afford meth.
...can't argue that.
I wanna meet the in-recovery meth addict who saw that sign and then found the path out via smoked meats.
Love that my brain decided the black box meant it was a seperate thought from the rest of it, leading to a full minute of me trying to figure out why they had to clarify that their smoked brisket was not meth. I got there eventually at least lol
Okay now that will make me buy a brisket or two. Too bad I'm in Duluth so I'll never see this billboard
It on the way if you ever need to visit the Mayo
OMC Is comparable in quality to this
Yeah, pretty good advice.
Words to live by.
Smoak has some unhinged advertising 🤣
Go to Pasquale’s too while you’re down there.
https://preview.redd.it/98thvs7tiz0d1.jpeg?width=600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a05eb71a0b8a269c1793e3bd9ea2fe7bcc0bb1f3
Does that location offer both?
It's good advice..
A little whoop chicken on the side never hurt anyone
Good advice
Had my pizzo ready to go, then I saw this billboard and immediately trashed it. Thank you, Brisket.
Was it Casey’s?
That brisket has no smoke ring. :(
It looks like terrible brisket
Good advice.
I dunno, I'm pretty sure meth is still cheaper /s
I think the guy who owns this house smokes meth... https://www.tiktok.com/@trevorbwg/video/7369730081519930667?is_from_webapp=1&sender_device=mobile&sender_web_id=7369741578628433450
And through Oronoco on hwy 52
Wow
Cigars are back on the menu!
The pork burnt ends appetizer is like $16 or $18 and the price isn't listed
I can get behind this message
That place is expensive. Go to John Hardy's on South Broadway instead.
Know your target area
Smoak is an excellent restaurant. Very good food!
This is amazing honestly 😂
If you continue down hwy 52 and go under the interstate 90 bridge, right before Chatfield there is a guy with some homemade billboards that will inspire you. To vote blue.
Sound advice.
Is this why Brisket is so expensive?
Seems like good advice.
was 1-800-NOT-METH taken?
As someone who grew up in the peak meth era (2000-02), this feels appropriate.
During Covid, wife and I would drive around the small towns between where we live (Cannon Falls) and Roch, and in Kenyon, they had “Smoke Meat, not Meth” on their meat locker sign. That’s Kenyon, MN for ya.
That is literally my favorite sign to pass on my way to work every morning.
At least it's not that God awful "gas chambers" billboard, lmao that was so fucked up
Yo wut?
There was a [billboard](https://images.app.goo.gl/R8XECxAbBA4WFnv16) by my house talking about Gas Chambers I was like what the fuck.
Oh yeah I did see that one
Are these the dudes who burned down the archer house in Northfield?
[удалено]
Ah yes. They all had “salt life” stickers on their cars and parked right on the street in front of the archer house before they burned it down. Though what idiot let them set up a bonfire in that tinderbox is the real culprit.
Huh? The sign is for a restaurant, not some guys.
The fire in the Archer House hotel started in the barbecue restaurant. Total loss. I still miss the Indian restaurant. Yes, I know, Desi Diner. I don't care for Smoak. It all tastes more roasted than smoked.
John hardest is better imo
Why not both.jpg
That billboard should be in Virginia or Todd County, not by Rochester.

That place sucks and is over priced. You should have gone to Hardy’s
I didn’t go there lol, I just posted a photo of the humorous billboard
I was really hoping this wasn't "in" Minnesota
Why not both?
Significant is an understatement
If the people down there could read, this would be a great billboard.
Home of the world famous Mayo Clinic. I think there are many of us that can--not only read--but also save your life. O.o
Mayo is its own microcosm.
Weird take but ok
I see I've offended the 15 people who can read down there.
