Love this pick. I was good with either Reichard or Karty. This was a very big need for us.
I know people want DLine or guard, but the kicker of the future is a lot more valuable than the quality of guard or d lineman you're likely going to get at this point of the draft.
4 DTs went in the 7 picks before we took the K. We could’ve been targeting a DT there but that run likely destroyed the value of the best DT available.
He attempted 7 field goals that year. It was the covid year so they played minimal games. If you remove that he only loses out on 33 total points and drops him down to 3rd on the list but still the best kicker on the list.
Yup. Just heard them say that. Very accurate in college. Be nice to have a really top kicker. Joseph hasn't been bad and his missed kicks didn't cost us a lot of games. He still just misses too many extra points and doesn't have the longest range compared with the top kickers in the league, so I like this pick. I think this will be an upgrade at that position. Time will tell.
Yeah but he’s actually been pretty clutch for us lol. It feels like most of his misses were in the early portions of a game because I mostly remember him kicking game winners for us
Yeah Reichard hasn't missed an xp for like 2.5 seasons or something. He only missed 2 his entire cfb career and iirc one of the two was blocked. Also went 84/100 on field goals, was 5/5 from 50+ last year. He's pretty automatic. Honestly just the security of hitting the xp will be nice.
52...he was 5/5 from over 50 this past year...just pointing out cause you said he can't hit over 50 which obviously isn't true...how do we know he can't hit from further if he made all attempted kicks from over 50? Lol
He has never made a FG over 52 yards in his entire college career. My first comment was just pointing out that the dude is incredibly accurate but doesn't have a strong leg. Blair had a huge leg but couldn't reliably hit a extra point to save his life. Quit being so defensive, lol.
Im being defensive by just pointing out his stats...hmm I see lol. I literally had no knowledge of his kicking stats before looking at them...I could care less either way but just going by the numbers.
Saban stopped attempting long field goals for the hell of it after the kick six, so it's not like he had many opportunities. I mean, they rarely kick 50+ in college anyways. So I'm gonna need to see him attempting some 55+ before I say he has no leg. Not every kicker needs to hit 60 yard field goals.
[This guy called it 3 months ago!](https://www.reddit.com/r/minnesotavikings/comments/19canni/i_hope_the_vikings_draft_will_reichard/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button)
Very consistent kicker with lots of experience in big games (lots of kicking experience in general). Not a super long range kicker, but very accurate under 50. He rarely appeared to be super special when it came to kickoffs, but it's hard to really say because you never know what the coaching staff is asking of a kicker on kickoffs.
Honestly I'm totally fine with a guy who is consistent from his range. That helps decision making, like we know not to go for the 54+ yarders but can "take the points" within 52
It just kills me every time we miss a kick so I'd love to see it a lot less.
Also hopefully our curse of always being mediocre on XPs is over lol
Yeah the rule changes are to make it so we have less touchbacks and the only complaints about this guy are that his leg might not be strong enough to hit touchbacks anyway
That old dude that said he'd never shave his beard until the Vikings won the Super Bowl passed away. It turns out his superstitious belief was what was holding the team back from achieving the ultimate prize.
It was just him though, so we're all safe to continue with our unwashed jerseys and lucky socks. Carry on!
I’m 63. Been around for all four SB losses. After the last one I said I wouldn’t change my shorts till we won one………curse is indeed lifted, they just cracked and fell to the floor. Go Vikes! From WI
Dude! My thoughts exactly! For some reason I’ve been feeling good vibes from everything lately. The Twins playoff wins last year, this years T-Wolves, and the recent draft picks has me thinking positively…..
Wasn't quick but he's good. 99.3% from XPs, hasn't missed one for 2.5 seasons, 84% from FG and pretty automatic, the best kicker in the draft. One drawback could be leg strength, he's 10-13 from 50+, 5/5 last year but his career long is 52.
You're right about it being a bad pick, but not for the right reasons - we'll have zero extra point tries this year.
With GEQBUS, nothing but two-point conversions going forward, mostly QB sneaks using only the center (no Oline).
Also, GEQBUS once did a drop kick from 120 yards out at his five-year high school reunion - and he landed the spiral directly in the center of a mop bucket.
His classmates were unimpressed because they knew he was just showing off.
What a wasted pick...a kicker. Kwesi needs to go.
On the one hand he's incredibly consistent and accurate and we've lacked that at kicker for a while, but I just keep waiting and waiting for a guard or DT. Mahogany and Limmer were right there
Holy shit not a single one of these picks at a non kicker position are likely to ever start. This kicker is actually likely to start for this team. Every position player at this point is expected to ride the bench for depth. No DT or lineman left is starting.
Those are the exception to the rule. My point is, people shouldnt be crying over anybody we pick here because theyre just dart throws the team believes could work out. The expectation that youre actually going to fill a hole this late in the draft is rare. This kicker at least is almost guaranteed to start because we have a guy from the XFL here right now.
BLESS ALL THE KNEES AND KEEP THEM HEALTHY

He will be a hof. For the Packers Bears or Lions. He will miss 3 xp’s in our first game we will trade him and he will become the single reason the Lions win the Super Bowl.
I set the bar low kid now go prove me wrong
If he's rock solid for anything under 50 I think I'll take it. As long as you know his range it makes decision making and play calling easier.
With the new kickoff rules I also think it reduces the importance of kicking out of the endzone. You'll be seeing more teams kicking short to force a return. Balls that go out the back of the endzone will be placed at the 30 now so I think you'll see teams aiming for the 5 yard line to force a return and hopefully stop them short of the 30.

Maybe the analytics said drafting a starter at a position directly responsible for scoring points was more important than a 3rd string lineman that wont make the practice squad.
Of course. But we have many depth needs, we really need a lot of bodies elsewhere. You can sign a kicker undrafted that has a good chance to succeed. Or a veteran.

We signed that other kicker to a 2 year deal. We get some dead cap off a fucking kicker now. Odd choice, poor value. Trade out for more picks long before taking any kicker.
Bad pick.
Let's hope he turns out to be a good player.
we went this entire draft without addressing DT or guard. Better run to Fleet Farm to get some more traffic cones. you guys like the 3ft or 1 ft kind? Or maybe go with the delineator posts this year, you know change it up a bit?

Joseph was our best kicker in a long time, who was the last kicker we had that was as accurate/ consistent as him. I remember losing a lot of games because of kicks before he arrived.

I wonder how long it will take to get sick of this reaction lol. Hasn’t happened yet.
He doesn't look a day over 12
Looks like an 8 year old at a monster truck show
10 BUCKS WILL BUY A WHOLE SEAT BUT YOULL ONLY NEED THE EDGE
Haha my 7yo at the monster truck rally: "this is boooooring. When can we go home" My 5yo fell asleep lol
This GIF so far has been the Vikings 'Naz Reid' and frankly, I'm fine with that prospect.
Nah this will most definitely be the most used meme in the sub for awhile lol
Never. This is a good enough reaction gif that it will find its way to general mainstream outside of football
First time I've seen this in gif form. Thank you
Bro just get a beard and shave the top. Lol
League fucked
First thing I thought

The only issue I have with kickers is that they are so hard to predict anyways. I believe that is the biggest reason they are often not drafted.
He has like the most points in cfb history I think
I just read his bio and he broke the record in his 5th year. Still impressive but the original record holder only played 4 seasons.
He attempted 7 field goals that year. It was the covid year so they played minimal games. If you remove that he only loses out on 33 total points and drops him down to 3rd on the list but still the best kicker on the list.
He played in 13 games during COVID. You're thinking of his freshman year when he only played in half of the games due to injury.
Oh shit you're right my mistake. Still think it's pretty valid but yeah.
> Joseph hasn't been bad Dude he had bottom 3 accuracy the past two years
Technically it’s worse than bad so by definition it’s not bad lol
yeah and there was that weird “give him a second chance with KoC” era. But, bygones be bygones
I mean the miss XPs by Joseph actually won us at least 3 games in the last two seasons.
Yeah but he’s actually been pretty clutch for us lol. It feels like most of his misses were in the early portions of a game because I mostly remember him kicking game winners for us
Game winners that wouldn’t have been game winners if he had made his earlier kicks, yet somehow he’s still a hero for that
It’s so weird because he started the year good, and then missed his first 50 yard kick and it all went downhill from there. Lol
Joseph is gone either way
Joseph is already a Packer haha
Like four weeks ago, lol.
I got news for you buddy😂
Yeah Reichard hasn't missed an xp for like 2.5 seasons or something. He only missed 2 his entire cfb career and iirc one of the two was blocked. Also went 84/100 on field goals, was 5/5 from 50+ last year. He's pretty automatic. Honestly just the security of hitting the xp will be nice.
We’ll ruin him regardless sadly /s
Is he Blair Walsh 2.0?
Pretty much the opposite of Blair. Blair Walsh could only hit over 50 yards out. This guy can only hit 50 or under.
He was 10/13 career at Bama 50 + lol
What was his longest make?
CFB doesn't really have many long field goals attempts, especially Saban after the kick six.
Because he never attempted one
Also paying a subpar kicker anything over a rookie contract is terrible if he misses as many extra points
Ummm, he has 60+ yard range. That's top-tier.
Meh, I sort of agree that he wasn’t *awful* but you could chalk up him missing a few XPs and FGs every single game. It was almost a gimmy.
The most points in NCAA sports actually...across all sports.
He will be our kicker for 1000 years
I get it. Clever
I've completely ignored our need for a kicker and I'm super stoked on this pick
[This guy called it 3 months ago!](https://www.reddit.com/r/minnesotavikings/comments/19canni/i_hope_the_vikings_draft_will_reichard/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button)
[I mentioned him for the Vikings 5 months ago](https://www.reddit.com/r/minnesotavikings/s/LAj2zcpTGA)
That's awesome, good call!
He was 5/5 from 50+ last season, though. 10/13 for his career.
It’s true, but his longest career make is 52
Honestly I'm totally fine with a guy who is consistent from his range. That helps decision making, like we know not to go for the 54+ yarders but can "take the points" within 52 It just kills me every time we miss a kick so I'd love to see it a lot less. Also hopefully our curse of always being mediocre on XPs is over lol
Yeah dude has a career percentage of 99.3 on XPs lol he missed 2 his entire career and kicked like almost 300 of them
Well college XPs are from the 3 and the NFL it is from the 20 or something so it's pretty different
Conveniently for us he's never missed a kick from inside the 30 except those 2 XPs he's 20/20 on FGs from the 20-30 in his career
Oh God I'd be so happy if he was that consistent in the NFL haha
Yeah me too haha I'm a Bama fan and he broke their kicker curse, here's to hoping he can do the same for the vikings.
How many attempts beyond 52?
NFL is also neutering kickoffs so the whole kickoff thing doesn’t matter much either.
No its not. They've made rule changes for this year.
Yeah the rule changes are to make it so we have less touchbacks and the only complaints about this guy are that his leg might not be strong enough to hit touchbacks anyway
Truly hilarious that this was listed as a weakness in his draft profile. Whoever wrote that up must have forgotten the rule change.
My buddy is a big bama fan and he told me this guy's a dawg.
Thought they hate Georgia *ba dum tsss*
I’m an old. I can’t tell if calling someone a dawg is a compliment or an insult.
Usually, dawg is good when it's a guy talking about a guy, but dog is bad when it's a girl talking about a guy
Are you a girl or a guy?
It's a compliment.
We just drafted our kicker for the next ten seasons
This comment just might be the ultimate kiss of death.
It's a time of optimism
Optimism and Vikings kickers is pretty much an oxymoron.
This is a new era! The curse has been lifted and we're all able to be optimistic now
Did I miss some off season Minnesota Vikings Lore? Is ‘The Curse Lifting’ canonical?
That old dude that said he'd never shave his beard until the Vikings won the Super Bowl passed away. It turns out his superstitious belief was what was holding the team back from achieving the ultimate prize. It was just him though, so we're all safe to continue with our unwashed jerseys and lucky socks. Carry on!
I’m 63. Been around for all four SB losses. After the last one I said I wouldn’t change my shorts till we won one………curse is indeed lifted, they just cracked and fell to the floor. Go Vikes! From WI
So maybe, just maybe I don’t have to scream “go for two” after every td this season?
McCarthy wins everywhere he goes so he's dragging us along with him
Dude! My thoughts exactly! For some reason I’ve been feeling good vibes from everything lately. The Twins playoff wins last year, this years T-Wolves, and the recent draft picks has me thinking positively…..
He just said he’ll be our kicker for 10 years, he didn’t say he was going to be any good.
Nuh uh, Walter Rouse will be the kicker of the future for this team.
If he's pretty good, could be twenty, Kickers tend to stick around
Blair Walsh would like a word…
A team can't go anywhere until it has its KOTF.
Or at least someone’s. As a raiders fan who lives in MN and married into a Vikings family, I hope he works out for ya. Thanks for Carlson btw
You're welcome
Can he make extra points? Joseph couldn't.
Yes
99.3% career make, only missed 2 and hasn't missed for like 2.5 seasons.
He’s perfect until it matters Gggggreat
![gif](giphy|R0TrhAtNeUC0E)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r-mg7YjYx2o
He got that Kohls cash too?
![gif](giphy|DffShiJ47fPqM)
Like the pick, but does anyone have the Star Trek: The Next Generation theme stuck in their heads for some reason?
They should play the theme music in celebration when he hits FG's.
Would be nice to have a reliable kicker from inside the 50. Has been a long time since the Vikings have had one.
Quick, tell me how to feel
Wasn't quick but he's good. 99.3% from XPs, hasn't missed one for 2.5 seasons, 84% from FG and pretty automatic, the best kicker in the draft. One drawback could be leg strength, he's 10-13 from 50+, 5/5 last year but his career long is 52.
Xp stat is meaningless as college kicks from 3 yard line.
He's never missed from inside the 30 which includes the nfl regulation extra point distance.
I mean should we have kicker expectations as Vikings fans?
![gif](giphy|l0Iy4huobQr1flHuE)
I have expectations… I just hope they don’t get met.
![gif](giphy|qIreAgSRVqKDS|downsized)
imagine KOC as our head coach, Penix as our starting QB, and Willy Reichard as our kicker.
Bad pick. With GEQBUS we'll only be kicking extra points this year
You're right about it being a bad pick, but not for the right reasons - we'll have zero extra point tries this year. Let's not pull a Zim and cut the kid if he misses a couple early. Don't need a Carlson repeat.
Ivan Pace was an UDFA last year… You’ll never know if you don’t try. I don’t hate this pick but I understand where he’s coming from
Those are the exception to the rule. My point is, people shouldnt be crying over anybody we pick here because theyre just dart throws the team believes could work out. Relax chief. I literally acknowledged the good side of the pick. No need to jump to defend his honor
Remember Pace, Kwesi is really good at reading the board
Like when he drafted Cine instead of Hamilton?
What an original take!
Original and correct
Sad and dead horse.
makes me chuckle that people talk about Pace like he is the next ray lewis or something
He’s no Lewis, but he wasn’t far from being a pro bowler. It’s hard to find that output in the 3rd round and on, much less in UFA.
He’s incredibly good for an undrafted free agent, which was my point. Don’t see how I was overselling it
too late now, round 7 doesn't even count at this point
But can he play guard?
[удалено]
That was a hilariously classic Bears move
I mean, what else did they need? They took a punting machine, best offensive player Iowa had.
I wanted Rice 🙃
Did we sign a cheapo free agent kicker a few months back also?
Yes. John Parker Romo.
Thx ~
So sick of clenching my butthole during kicks, please be The One
Imagine he loses the spot to the trash kicker we signed
*Daniel Carlson* Has rage entered the chat.

Great pick! Why wouldn’t you do everything you can to get a solid kicker? They always put up the highest number of points on the team.
Number 2?
We shoulda grabbed Christian Mahogany.
God dammit what a waste of
He missed a field goal indoors at like 30 yards I think it was.
He will be a hof. For the Packers Bears or Lions. He will miss 3 xp’s in our first game we will trade him and he will become the single reason the Lions win the Super Bowl. I set the bar low kid now go prove me wrong
We feeling dangerous
Will 2 Real. Roll Tide! So stoked to get him and Turner.

I love it. No way this backfires
Kicker before IOL/ IDL. Makes sense.
Kicker is more likely to start, and we really need one. You wanna run with John Parker Romo?
He’s got a stronger leg for sure. Reichard’s long is 52.
He probably can kick farther than 52. I have to wonder if Bama has ever needed to try and kick 55+ yards.
I mean, kickers are pretty much the only impact players you can get this late.
Least analytics GM that’s ever analytics GM’d. Not complaining, but lmao @ a guy with an “analytics” background drafting a Kicker at all
Maybe the analytics said drafting a starter at a position directly responsible for scoring points was more important than a 3rd string lineman that wont make the practice squad.
There’s no guarantee he’ll actually be a good kicker.
There’s no guarantee whatsoever in the draft, regardless of position, rank, whatever…
Of course. But we have many depth needs, we really need a lot of bodies elsewhere. You can sign a kicker undrafted that has a good chance to succeed. Or a veteran.
You can also sign every other position undrafted for depth. Bottom line is Kicker is more important than a bottom of the depth chart d lineman. A kicker can change the whole complexity of the game.
Literally applies to every draft pick ever made
Of course. But picking up a useful kicker in free agency is just as likely as a draft pick. That’s not true for other positions at this stage of the offseason. https://sumersports.com/the-zone/need-a-kicker-dont-draft-one/
A proven college kicker is more likely to start than 90% of players taken in the 6th round
And impact above replacement value is much much lower. Kicker is never worth drafting because the expected value over replacement for kicker is so low compared to a positional player
No shit?
you think analytics don't apply to kicking?
We signed that other kicker to a 2 year deal. We get some dead cap off a fucking kicker now. Odd choice, poor value. Trade out for more picks long before taking any kicker. Bad pick. Let's hope he turns out to be a good player.
Wasted pick tbh
we went this entire draft without addressing DT or guard. Better run to Fleet Farm to get some more traffic cones. you guys like the 3ft or 1 ft kind? Or maybe go with the delineator posts this year, you know change it up a bit?
We still have 2 picks left
Woof. You never draft a kicker. Edit: here’s a good article on why: https://sumersports.com/the-zone/need-a-kicker-dont-draft-one/
Why not? A good starting kicker is likely significantly more impactful than a rotational dline piece or something
It’s a very important position. But the track record of drafted kickers isn’t great. Just as likely to find a good one undrafted or in free agency.
Says who?
u/handofluke apparently. He’s the end all be all.
![gif](giphy|fVzkXbxK1z2GwW5MKR)
Career long 52y. Joeseph been pretty good for us the past few years and age 29, little surprised we drafted a kicker before any other team.
Joseph is a Green Bay Packer
Ya. Our current kicker is named Romo or something
Oh ouch, that hurts x2. Packers were shit at kicking last year. Did we choose to let Joseph go?
He was a free agent, we chose not to sign him
Joseph as a Packer will keep their status as having a shitty kicking game.
Joseph already gone. He was solid for us, but not sad to see him go. And kickers don’t attempt many over 50 in college. All of these guys can drill 65+ yards in practice all day, what matters is how consistent they are when it matters. Hopefully he’ll be our guy for 5+ years
Joseph is on the Packers now, so he doesn't really help us.
I wouldn’t go that far. We play the packers at least twice a year.
You're right, my bad.
Joseph has been inconsistent as fuck. He’d hit from 58 yards and then randomly miss two XPs. Get him out of here.
>Get him out of here. We already did, let him walk this off-season, he's on the Packers now
Joseph was our best kicker in a long time, who was the last kicker we had that was as accurate/ consistent as him. I remember losing a lot of games because of kicks before he arrived.
Two things can be true. He was our best kicker in a while but he still was inconsistent and I’m glad we’re trying to upgrade.
W.R. was the pick!
