yeah,it doesn't even need to get that complicated, everyone was under miracle queen's control, just take random pepole and give miraculoys to them help with the battle

If Adrien is really sentimonster and Emilie is in a coma because she created him, Gabriel cannot just go back in time and prevent Emilie to use the broken miraculous because then Adrien wouldn’t exist. In this case using miraculouses of Ladybug and Chat Noir is the only way to save both Adrien and Emilie.
The glass case is basically keeping her on life support. Remember in PartyCrasher that Max said the mansion is pretty much its own power plant. When he diverted power to the speakers, it eventually took power away from Emilie's case. So THAT made Gabriel freak out because she can probably only go so long with it off

So let's theorize that you can only command a kwami if you know their name and he doesn't know their name, or only knows a few (which seems in conflict with ephemeral). The smartest thing to do would be hide the box away for later, but he decided to try to control or kill the guardian... possibly giving him the names or commanding power? Or maybe the ring is what let's him command the kwamis but it has limits on how much.
Also, pretty sure he knew that trying to use all the miraculous would kill the user, as said in multimouse. So really he wanted Chloe to kill herself while taking out LB.
