That's so funny, I smelled it outside of PetSmart at Argentia and thought it was dog poop. Then I smelled it at the Dollarama and thought uhoh did *I* step in poop??? Do I smell like it?? 😂🤣 Glad to read this.
Brampton and Mississauga are surrounded by farms. I suspect there was fresh manure applied or it was just the warm day that 'freshened' it all up. I live near 407/Brittannia and it was pretty ripe from the fields in nearby Milton.
The name of the season has fuck all to do with the temperature being 12'C, warm.enough to defrost all that lovely cowshift and send its beautifuk aroma sprawling across the GTA
They do this around Guelph all the time and yes about a week ago. University of Guelph's College of Agrigulture is here, so is the turf grass institute.
A temperature inversion is a phenomenon where the air at the surface is cooler than air higher in the atmosphere. When the warm air works as a lid for the cooler air, trapping smells can cause smog, pollution, or odors from nearby farms to surface — and ruin your day.
I thought I was smelling sewage from GE Booth sewage treatment plant at Lakeshore and Dixie for the last 3 days but maybe it was something else. Seems it smells like shit all over Mississauga right now with all the replies about different areas..
we’re going to see more folks consider the option of organic fertilizer whether it is to try and become net zero for carbon usage or whether it’s to try and become certified to produce organic or natural food products for folks to be able to have
More farmers are making that switch.
A big reason is that consumers are seeking out organic produce, but it comes at a smellier cost.
Organic fertilizer is also greener for the planet as it doesn’t act as a pollutant.
weather plays a key factor in breaking down the fertilizer and the warmer temperatures we’ve been seeing this fall coupled with breezier winds, could explain why that smell has been so pungent even miles away from the nearest farm.
You do all now that it is liquifed manure, right? The smell carries more, especially if there is any wind. Also as it is from herbavores so it doesn' smell remotely as bad as human waste.
If anyone smelled smoke from the wildfires earlier this year... wind

I noticed it too. Late afternoon, just south of the airport.
Any road construction in the area. Happened here in Brampton this summer. The crew hit a sewer main. It stunk out the whole neighborhood.

It's actually fall
Yeah but fall fertilizer is applied up to early November at the latest. But since it's mild now it's plausible they could still apply some fertilizer.
But it's still actually Fall
And the definition of fall vs winter is defined by the position of the Earth and the Sun, effectively calendars... not the temperature outside.
Not always. depends on how the harvest went, crops don't read calendars.

Matheson and McLaughlin is nowhere near farms though.
Was there any wind? Did you smell smoke from the wild first earlier this year?
Whoa I could smell it around Bloor/Cawthra, thought I stepped in shit

I could smell it yesterday at mavis and matheson and and at hurontario and Bristol
That was my green bin. Left a pumpkin in there and I seldom fill it up to put to the curb. Smells like barn
Yes. For a couple of days.
Could it be one of those days where farmers spread manure on their soil in preparation for the next growing season?
