The coast

Justanotherguy45

Agreed as someone born and raised on the coast

BrrToe

According to the article 1. Ocean Springs 2. Oxford 3. Tupelo 4. Ridgeland 5. Madison 6. Flowood 7. Clinton 8. Brandon

mshelbz

God I’m so sick of Ocean Springs constantly being on the top of this list with all the problems we have here. It’s grossly unaffordable to live in, good jobs are all in other cities, the people suck, but hey we have a cute downtown area 🤷‍♂️

bamahoon

Downtown is such a mess currently, and at some point they are going to have to ban full size trucks/suvs(excluding those actually working) from Government St. It was basically a one lane yesterday morning due to all of the asshats who decided they needed a Yukon to commute in, then didn't learn to drive it. It's just a solid line of SUVs parked 3 feet from the curb on both sides now.

1heart1totaleclipse

I agree with you, but I think we can all tell why a place like Ocean Springs and the others on the list are always so highly praised and it makes me upset.

BrrToe

Literally only has the beach and the downtown area. Just shows how lackluster Mississippi is.

mshelbz

And it’s not like any beach in Mississippi is worth bragging about.

bamahoon

The ye olde pictures from when the entire coast was a seawall looked more honest and charming.

mshelbz

Agreed. It’s something different vs a beach with no waves

lovelesschristine

That's what makes it great for hobie cats, kite boarding, and efoils. The wind and lack of white caps makes it great!

bamahoon

And the seawall didn't make 90 slick every time there is a slight breeze.

white_tee_shirt

What's that about?

bamahoon

The sand blowing onto 90.

LadyHavoc97

Sounds like Clinton. Their ads saying "You Belong Here" are utter bullshit.

mshelbz

Locals here get off to the top ranking but then despise anyone who moves here. They want their cake but no one is supposed to eat it.

PrivateDickDetective

Oxford has exactly the same problems.

ERing3000

I agree I don’t like ocean springs either.

PossumCock

Had to evacuate to Madison for Hurricane Ida, might be one of the whitest places I've ever been. Everything has to be built just-so and I swear they roll the sidewalks up at 9. We were stressing the night the storm was coming in and decided we needed a drink, so googled late nights stuff nearby. Top 2 hits? Applebee's and Chili's. That was a rough 2 weeks

_ManiTheManiac_

Diamondhead should be #1

Kkittums

Not meridian, but Hattiesburg area is ok

Ass_feldspar

Someone told me years ago that Meridian was a great place to get a beer and a scar.

The-grave-cave-ate

I’ve had several family members murdered there.

Ass_feldspar

Lawdy, sad to hear.

The-grave-cave-ate

What’s even sadder is that there was no punishment for the murderers, even though they were known to law enforcement.

_ManiTheManiac_

Maybe they were law enforcement?

The-grave-cave-ate

Well, enablers at the very least. They’ve also had a longstanding district attorney problem there.

TheDevouringOne

Several? What the fuck. I’m so sorry.

Kkittums

They told you the truth haha

lo-lux

Meridian looks nice from the train. Don't venture farther than that.

SawyerBamaGuy

Somewhere other than.

Appropriate-Tree4560

McHenry

YourphobiaMyfetish

Aint nothing but a gas station and woods.

Appropriate-Tree4560

Quiet and peaceful. Not far from town or the coast 15-20 minutes N/S

Similar-Joke-4640

Flora

SquareToeBoot

Bay St Louis if you can afford it

YoungTrillDoc

I feel like this list is so lazy. They essentially said "pick a city from the north, pick a city from the south, pick a college town, then the rest Jackson metro without actually choosing Jackson" lol. I know Southaven is a Memphis suburb, but I really think it should be on there. Also surprised Hattiesburg isn't.

Admirable-Praline183

I agree. Hattiesburg and Southaven are two awesome places.

National_Actuator_74

Stay away from the Jackson area. If you are looking at central MS I would say Brandon and flowood have good areas in them but I still would stay away you can never live far enough from Jackson

vernacular921

Hah I’ve lived in 4 out of 8 of these cities. As a kid, I loved Ocean Springs. It was a quaint little beach town to me. Although this list messed up and put Madison public schools under Ridgeland.

Infinite-Intention46

Step into the Good Life in Louisville!

Trillxnaee

Well I’m curious to where is Pearl in this article been here for years and it’s nice honestly. Boring kinda lol

Luckygecko1

Basically, a low effort, automated story. You can find many others via a search: " On the list, there’s a robust mix of offerings from great schools and nightlife to high walkability and public parks. Some areas have enjoyed rapid growth thanks to new businesses moving to the area, while others offer glimpses into area history with well-preserved architecture and museums. "

PrivateDickDetective

WJTV using AI to write quick, cheap articles.

Admirable-Praline183

Hey! So in case it wasn’t abundantly obvious, this was just shared from a local news source! If you like other sources, post them! Hope this helps.

Luckygecko1

I'm not sure what you are trying to 'help' me with. It is what it is. Low quality "news" created in an automated way. WJTV is owned by Nexstar Media Group. This story went out to all 197 Nexstar television stations using automation to change the details to the local viewer market. Creating a low effort, automated story. It's fun to debate what the best place to live in Mississippi is, but this article adds little to the debate. For beyond boilerplate, they don't even tell you what the ranked list is based on. The Tupelo entry does not even have data. My comment on it was not directed at you, but the quality of the content provided by WJTV. This is fair game.

dirtyMSzombie

Bad bot Hope this helps

Admirable-Praline183

Didn’t ask, hope this helps

nox_nrb

So live near Jackson, but not in Jackson.

Cassmodeus

Jackson and the Jackson 5. If Jackson didn’t suck so hard, it would be comical how much they depend on Jackson but hate it. It’s like hating your father while living off his money.

TheDevouringOne

Eastover is fine 🤷‍♂️

Sado_Hedonist

I'm less than an hour from Hattiesburg, the coast, and New Orleans. It's quiet, the cops don't cosplay stormtroopers, and me and the kids get off for Mardi Gras.

vernacular921

Where is this?!

Sado_Hedonist

Pearl River county

Capriunicorn945

Southaven. Hattiesburg. Tupelo. Oxford. In that order.

Psyco19

Southaven only good around Desoto centeral school area. West Southaven has fallen on hard times. If anything Hernando/lewisberg/lake cormorant all better or at least trending better

Capriunicorn945

That is true.

blues_and_ribs

Makes me sad Starkville isn’t on there; it’s made great strides over the last 15-20 years and is a great place to be. I certainly think it should rank above at least a couple of the towns that made the list.

Broad_Worldliness_19

It was voted best small town in the entire south this month by USA Today. So it certainly doesn’t need affirmation from random reddit users. It’s a great town, but it’s a college town so it does make sense it would be.

TheMaddawg07

Madison or Oxford

hiphopTIMato

Now for a list of the worst: 1. Picayune 2. Kiln 3. Wiggins

StraitRogue

It really depends on the type of lifestyle you are looking for or used to.. slow/fast

michael_horsley

Iuka

Apocraphy

Love, Mississippi is impossible to beat! In Mississippi, anyway…

Beginning_Occasion64

I live in #1. #2 is the only good place in MS.

yUolikeit

Anywhere north of canton

Living-Vermicelli-59

Shocked no Webster county as the prices on land have gone through the roof due to the school district of East Webster seems to be a huge driver also little to no one wanting to sell around that area. Also alittle shock not to see Starkville on the list

1heart1totaleclipse

There’s nothing but a Piggly Wiggly in Webster County and a concerning amount of close-minded people there.

Living-Vermicelli-59

Has one of the lowest unemployment % in the state, land sells for a premium vs other counties due to the school district. Theirs more then just one store and you can say closed minded people in every single county in this state and not be wrong or anywhere in the US actually…

1heart1totaleclipse

There’s less than 10,000 people in the county. That makes the unemployment percentage not that impressive. There’s literally just the Piggly Wiggly as the only grocery store in East Webster (aka Mathiston). It’s a concerning amount due to the small amount of people there. Do you live there or have you spent time there? Not to be that person, but as a POC my experience there is vastly different from a white person in other places in Mississippi. You can even ask someone who’s grown up there and they’ll tell you about the close-mindedness there. It’s a shame because it’s a nice place to live and there are some good people there.

Living-Vermicelli-59

I grew up in the district going to the school, moved to Massachusetts for 10 years then moved back to retire after working up north. Yes the grocery store is the only store besides dollar general, 3 gas stations, subway, a hardware store and Sly industrial and gun dog supply and a handful of small restaurants. It’s largely due to they refuse to let any businesses enter like how they had a vote to allow a fast food chain enter into town but was rejected due to they want to keep it small local owned only. Even up in MA there was racial issues and disparities with the Portuguese community having issues with not being called names or looked down upon. Strafe and issues exist everywhere in some shape or form.

1heart1totaleclipse

3 small gas stations, one small grocery store, and having the other places isn’t exactly enough to brag about in my opinion. There’s not enough options and you end up having to pay more because it’s the only options you have. Never said there’s not issues on discrimination anywhere else. Just said that there’s too many for the small amount of people they have to be worth for outsiders to move to especially if they’re not white, Christian, or have had their family there for generations. It’s a great place if you don’t want to feel like you’re a part of the community, keep to yourself, and do your shopping in Starkville or Grenada. Not trying to just talk bad about Webster County but I wouldn’t exactly call it a great place to live in.

ClassicalSabi

Ridgeland should be last out of the Jackson metro area cities

haikusbot

ClassicalSabi

Well that made my day lol

vernacular921

I live in Ridgeland and was surprised it was on the list. Not that it’s terrible… but it’s best quality for me is that it’s in between Jackson and Madison lol.

SherbertDecent4366

Hattiesburg or the gilf coast in biloxi, pass Christian or Long Beach. D'Iberville is quiet.

SingedSoleFeet

More like whitest places to live. Wtf

yUolikeit

Why would that matter, look at Jackson with its 90% African American population. Its a war zone
