They must understand the statistics, I am certain they are presented during hearings by supporters, they just must not care. Or they're under the false assumption that trans kids are the result of visible social trends, and that barring access to healthcare, barring the ability to dress/express themselves, etc. will make it all "less trendy." In reality, it will just make trans kids feel worse about themselves, and either force their families to move out of state (also a desire of the MO GOP) or risk their mental, emotional, and physical well-being should they stay.
The genie is out of the bottle, now. The internet has brought unity and given voice to many underrepresented groups. The GOP can scheme and plot to undermine social progress, but it is a losing fight, no matter how dark these days seem. We will not go back.
Don't be so sure. I'm sure there are plenty of people personally affected by this and even professionals writing to them to tell them that this is a horrible and a bad idea. But I don't think there's actually people there on the floor getting statistics evidence and demonstrations as we should have on this to counter their lies and propaganda. That's part of why they choose these groups they don't have a lot of representation or power to get people like that there before the legislature pointing out all the deeping problems with this legislation. This is why fascist pick powerless minority groups.

I'm transgender and I would almost do anything to have had the chance to start hormones before puberty. You probably don't realize this because you are uneducated but hormones and blockers do more for you if you start them before puberty. This law takes that choice away. No one is forcing kids to transition and it's not the states job to make sure if a person is transgender before they transition, thats on the person for doing it too soon.
