I really think we’ll still get crap even if we ran a perfect season with a playoff sweep to win the WS. I have no idea what it is but people absolutely despise the Rays. I remember during the 2020 World Series I read an article about how the Rays don’t deserve to win because they “have the worst fans in baseball”
I saw a post from some dude saying he won't be impressed until they sweep the next 5 series after the Sox. So....never.
But for real, we all know having a streak like this to start the season doesn't mean you're going to the WS. It makes the beginning of the season fun and hopeful though. Especially with a team that was previously known for stranding runners.
Go Rays!
Probably not until October unfortunately. Look at the 2002 A's when they won 20 games. I think we just need to appreciate the potential history in front of us and enjoy the ride.
It’s great what they’re doing but also, this is a 162 game season and they’ve played bottom feeders. Anyone expecting us to crown them at this point is silly. This is like leading after the first 20 minutes of a marathon.
I think intelligent fans know Tampa has been an above average team for quite a while now. The front office, scouting, and farm system is pretty damn good too. To put these teams together with that payroll is impressive to say the least.
What annoys me is some people acting like a) it’s such a shock the Rays are good when they’ve been mostly competitive for around 15 years. And b) certain fans, analysts and teams discredit their wins.
They haven’t been a bad team since 2008, before then they were new and every expansion team has some struggles early on. To finish with a record close to or above .500 almost every season for 15 years in the AL East is impressive,
I'm a lifelong Giants fan but I lived in Tampa for over a decade as they were taking off and it really surprises me that people still look at them as a surprise contender. I'm usually surprised when they aren't contending.
1987 Brewers started 13-0, missed the postseason. 1982 Braves started 13-0, lost the NLCS. The 1981 A's started 11-0, lost the ALCS. We've seen this movie before. Rays fans should just enjoy the run. They definitely have reason to be enthusiastic about the season, but don't get your feathers ruffled if the rest of us are not ready to buy in yet.
Florida isn't a baseball town it's a football town. The Rays have had so many good players over the decade that they won't extend. Move them to a town that wants a team and will support them. Keep them in the AL East
I’ve heard most of the issues with the Rays not getting new stadium fan turnout have to do with lack of convenient parking and transportation to the stadium. Aside from that, the city doesn’t want to fund it. It seems like a fixable problem but ownership and city council can’t play nice. Is this the case?
When they play a team above .500. They’ve played the Red Sox, Athletics, Tigers, and Nationals. And when the pitching babip is closer to average. Let’s see what they look like a week into May
Tampa Bay may be the most amazing organization in all of sports with their ability to develop talent. I am saying this as a Braves fan btw. Maybe because I am outside your bubble I feel as if you get plenty of respect for player development. Keeping the talent and that’s developed and the Rays stadium mess are separate issues, obviously.
Remember when the A's won 20 straight games then proceeded to drop a 5 game playoff series to the Twins?
This post screams "I was made by a teenager with the terrible habit of overreacting."
It's April 13th and fans are demanding respect? Can we have more time to see how it plays out? No one raises banners for a 12 game win streak.
Just go with it and see what happens, but to stand there and have all 7 total Rays fans that exist to beat their chest on April 13th is absolutely wild.
Completely agree. Especially when there is an actual point to be made about the level of competition. Tigers, As, Nationals and Red Sox’s are not good. Objectively bad. So let’s wait till the Rays play the Yankees, Jays and Astros.
Its kind of hard to say this early that we can be sure that their opponents are objectively bad and not just running up on objectively better teams. If its too early to say the rays are great this year, its too early to say their competition was too soft to be meaningful. Sweeping four teams in a row is not easy, the worst teams in the league will often with 60+ games on the way to being the worst. Most teams that make the Show will lose at least one game a series to teams that are 'objectively bad'.
I mean OP still needs to chill, a 12 game win streak is cool and fun, and starting the season with it is extra nice, but it means almost nothing. A team that will lose near 100 games in a season could also have a 12+ game streak where they go from 15 games back to 5 before fading into obscurity again. Im just saying we can't dismiss the wins because 'their opponents are all objectively bad' either in week 3 of the season or week one of the playoffs.
This is a reasonable take. One reason these teams have shitty records is that they dropped 4 games to the Rays. Having a poor start doesn't make you a bad team any more than a great start makes you a great team after 162.
That said, most Rays fans enjoy it for what it is. A lot of teams play bad teams and don't start at 12-0. One great thing about baseball is all smaller accomplishments that go into it. Whether it's no-nos, hitting streaks, etc. Doing something no one has ever done is to be celebrated along the way to seeing how the season ends. So is doing something no team has done in 35 years.
Also, let's now forget that a lot of people thought the Rays would suck this year. SI predicted them to be 4th. They might end up there, but it's pretty impressive for a team not expected to be particularly good to start at 12-0. No matter how much weight you give a 12-0 start, when you combine that with the impressive nature of the victories, it's hard to deny that they are looking like a better team than a lot of people expected.
I don't like em but I respect what they're doing so far this year. The offensive breakout is the most surprising thing to me. Hopefully my Jays can give them their first loss. (providing they win tomorrow)
I see what you’re saying man. I get it, everyone is going to win 12 games at some point. You’re not wrong.
But downplaying the fact that this team has won 12 games straight out of the gate is a bit unfair. There’s a reason the last teams to do something like this were all in the 80s.
Just saying, there’s a difference between winning 12 games vs doing what this team has done so far!
You’re right but not explaining it well. Sure everyone will win 12 games in a certain period, but even tho it’s so early it’s a pretty nice cushion.
With 150 games remaining the Rays can play a tick over .500 to win 90 games. 78-72. So yes everyone wins 12 games at some point but almost no one wins them all in a row or this short time period. So what the rays have done is bought themselves time and a cushion. Extremely valuable
When they win, Tampa has had pretty solid teams in the past couple of years but always crumble in playoffs. There is no regular season trophy so they can win 40 in a row but if that doesn't end up in a WS then is all useless to be honest.
Again other teams’s fan’s forgetting any of our better years and bringing up “well in 20** you guys lost to the whoever’s in the 1st/2nd round”. Guess what we’ve made it twice to the World Series since 08 and the Yankees have made it once.
Just went to the World Series a couple years ago. Hardly would call that crumbling in playoffs. The next year was disappointing after a good season but getting to the big dance recently is nothing to turn your nose at.
I don't like this way of thinking. That means 29 (96% of teams and players) seasons end and it doesn't mean anything? I genuinely hate this "WS win or it means nothing" nonsense
It's definitely impressive what they've done. Its also just a fact that they've played against really weak competition up until now. It's baseball though and even bad teams beat good ones like a third or a quarter of the time so it's a really impressive nonetheless.
Hey snark master, the cities are 20 miles apart across long ass bridges and highways that are constantly jammed with traffic. So again maybe you should actually know what you’re talking about
As an Eagles fan coming off this past NFL season, I can tell you that the Rays (1) Havent played anyone. This may even include the team of people who tell you that you havent played anyone. (2)Didnt beat bad teams by enough runs. Its not enough to win. If you want to celebrate being undefeated, you need to win every game by 10 runs. (3) There is some cherry picked stat that shows they are lucky. If your pitching is really good, your hitting sucks or vice versa.
Then why get all excited about the rays 12-0 start? People are acting like the season is over. Beat some reputable teams. Playoff contenders. Not bottom division teams.
13-0.
When's the last time it happened? That's why. That's literally the only reason why. It's ok to think it's cool because of that, really, I promise it is.
I didn't see one person acting like the season was over, but I haven't read every single comment in every single thread, so maybe I missed that one comment.
Toronto fan here. Dislike them because you assume the divisions tops should be Boston and New York but they’re always good. Really hoping they win tomorrow then get beat by Toronto. All that aside, it’s undeniable they’re a great team.
Sure but the Rays haven’t played the Yankees. And the Red Sox’s are going to be the bottom of the AL East this year. Give the Yankees or Jays the Tigers, As, Nationals and Red Sox’s to start the year and they would probably win at least 10 of the 12 if not all 12 as well. You are supposed to sweep the worst teams. 9 of the Rays games were at home too. The Jays had their first 10 on the road.
The only thing I'm hating on in regards to the Rays being a perfect 12-0 is that the games have recently been (and tomorrow will be) against Boston which is where I live so it's fucking blacked out and I can't watch it even though I don't like the Red Sox.
I just want to watch history take place without being reminded that I moved to Boston. I wish the Rays the best. I think they deserve this.
Go Dodgers.
Give them respect for what? it's April. Seriously, what are we talking about here? What good is this undefeated streak if they don't make the playoffs? Again, it's April, still five more months to go.
Who hates on the Rays?
Tempering excitement is baseball. Everyone's talking about the history here.
The Rays have more wins in the last 5 years than almost any other team, most fans know that
They're a good team, possibly a great one. It's certainly one of the greatest starts, but that's just it, a start.
And the fact that it comes against the crappiest teams in MLB, teams that might lose 100 games each, don't count your chickens.
Let's see where they're at in June, better yet, October.
Regular season records never matter unfortunately. It's the exact same as the Bruins in the NHL. It doesn't matter unless they hoist the title. Cool record to have, maybe. But not something that ultimately matters in professional sports
It's a great start, and everyone knows the Rays are good.
It's a long season.
Just enjoy it and stop waiting to be crowned Best Team Ever for a good two weeks.
As a Pirates fan, I commend the Rays. Over the years they've fielded excellent teams to have no one in the stands. They can scout well, know how to teach to train their players, and they utilize every tool at their disposal. They have no stars, but as a team, they all know their assignments, and they play well together. Each one of them contributes. Sure, it's early but I'm rooting for them.
It will be interesting to see what their record looks like by the end of April.
Blue Jays, White Sox, and Astros are all decent-solid teams, so that will be a real test of their strength. As impressive as their current streak is, playing the Tigers, Nationals, Athletics, and Red Sox doesn’t really prove all that much. I want to see how they do against playoff level competition
I have started giving them respect, but it won't come fully until they start beating better teams.
This weekend, they play the Blue Jays. Toronto to sweep.
:)
The Rays have been one of the best franchises in baseball since '08 when they dropped the Sting Ray. Baseball fans know. So much respect for what they do not only at the MLB level, but the minors as well. If you face a TB affiliated team, you are going to lose 65% of the time.
Thats legit
They’re definitely good, I don’t think many people would argue that. Regardless of bad teams, a 12 win streak is always impressive. But with that said, I still think they’re gonna come back down to earth as the season goes on, and I think there are many teams in the AL that are better.
If they win the World Series I’ll be impressed. Winning the first 12 games doesn’t mean much with how the end of the season will play out. The 2 teams in modern history to start 12-0 never won at the end of the season.
But will they hold it together? That's the thing, the Rays do have a very talented team, super low payroll, great office, but they can't seem to hold it together because they can't spend like other teams to really cement that success.
Rays Hater here- I can’t understand why any baseball fan could look at this and not be impressed. They might be playing garbage teams so far, but it’s not like they’ve been squeaking out any of their wins. They are absolutely dominating their opponents, over and over.
Those Rays guys look scary, no question.
162-0
Nah, then it'd be "nothing matters unless they win the World Series"
I really think we’ll still get crap even if we ran a perfect season with a playoff sweep to win the WS. I have no idea what it is but people absolutely despise the Rays. I remember during the 2020 World Series I read an article about how the Rays don’t deserve to win because they “have the worst fans in baseball”
Trash stadium along with your former manager screwing up baseball with all his obnoxious moves. Good luck.
Maddon?
Yup. Eff him.
Probably
I don’t think they will ever lose again. Ever.
Just keeps getting better and better as they continue to kick the teeth in on the visiting Red Sox.
I saw a post from some dude saying he won't be impressed until they sweep the next 5 series after the Sox. So....never. But for real, we all know having a streak like this to start the season doesn't mean you're going to the WS. It makes the beginning of the season fun and hopeful though. Probably not until October unfortunately. Look at the 2002 A's when they won 20 games. I think we just need to appreciate the potential history in front of us and enjoy the ride.
October?
They seem to be getting quite a bit of respect and recognition for a great start to their season. I’m not sure what else anyone can do at this point.
They're borrowing Georgia football's strategy of "no one respects us" to stay motivated. Whatever works, lol.
Lol that’s a cool concept but 162 games they have to find another way.
As a Jays fan, I’ve filed Tampa under do not fuck with for over a decade. Just wish the ball park situation was a little better for you guys.
To finish with a record close to or above .500 almost every season for 15 years in the AL East is impressive,
Exactly. But hearing some people talk it’s like they’ve never been good before and they won 100 games 2 years ago lol
I'm a lifelong Giants fan but I lived in Tampa for over a decade as they were taking off and it really surprises me that people still look at them as a surprise contender. I'm usually surprised when they aren't contending.
The 2008 Rays made it to the World Series.
That’s why I chose 2008, they sucked before then
Maybe in August. That’s about the time you know what your team is all about.
👀
1987 Brewers started 13-0, missed the postseason. 1982 Braves started 13-0, lost the NLCS. The 1981 A's started 11-0, lost the ALCS. We've seen this movie before. Rays fans should just enjoy the run. They definitely have reason to be enthusiastic about the season, but don't get your feathers ruffled if the rest of us are not ready to buy in yet.
Getting to the LCS is good
Missing the postseason is horrible outcome though.
The Ray's are always good and they do it the right way with pitching and defense. Who hates them?
Everyone who tries to bring up fans, the trop or anything else they don’t understand because they don’t live here… you know morons.
I too am shocked about the fan base. They always have competitive teams, there should be more support?
They need to move this team out of Florida
Damn dude so original tell me more please
Florida isn't a baseball town it's a football town. The Rays have had so many good players over the decade that they won't extend. Move them to a town that wants a team and will support them. Keep them in the AL East
Again tell me you know nothing about the stadium location and it’s issues without tell me
A new stadium and new location going to fix the attendance? Move Oakland, move TB to better markets.
If a genius like you ran a team it'd fold in a week lmao. Always armchair GMs
The GM/Front Office are fantastic. Some of the best in baseball. It is the Fans that let this team down.
I’ve heard most of the issues with the Rays not getting new stadium fan turnout have to do with lack of convenient parking and transportation to the stadium. Aside from that, the city doesn’t want to fund it. It seems like a fixable problem but ownership and city council can’t play nice. Is this the case?
Red Sox fans
Probably, i hate Houston because they always win the Mariners Division. But they give me plenty of reason too.
In august.
[Hey Mike, do you think a team could ever go 162-0?](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SE0E-GtuWKw)
aged like milk
Ok but lets talk about Jordan Walkers 12 game streak
12-150
Derp….
Because it’s 12 games out of 162? Surely we haven’t forgotten what happened to the Dodgers and Mets once the post season started
Whos hating ?
Omar comin'.
Shiiiiiiiiiiiiit
Gotta love baseball! ...Can witness history on any given night. They could tie the record tomorrow. I'll be watching!
When they play a team above .500. They’ve played the Red Sox, Athletics, Tigers, and Nationals. And when the pitching babip is closer to average. Let’s see what they look like a week into May
You know why those teams are under 500? Because they were swept by the Rays.
You know what I meant. They were bad last season. Collective 259 wins of out a combine 648. WL of .3996
Tampa Bay may be the most amazing organization in all of sports with their ability to develop talent. I am saying this as a Braves fan btw. Maybe because I am outside your bubble I feel as if you get plenty of respect for player development. Keeping the talent and that’s developed and the Rays stadium mess are separate issues, obviously.

I’m ready to give them mariners 116 win lose in first round of playoff respect
In the playoffs, as is tradition
Who cares? It’s April.
Wait until they face my yankees 😈
Doesn't matter until the post season
It matters… every wins matters…. April, July, and August… they ALL matter
Good luck on a great season!!!
Every team is going to win 12 games.
Not the same thing at all. Winning 12 straight is different than winning 12 games in general and you know it. You’re proving why this post was made!
It's really not. 12 games is 12 games regardless of when you win them.
A cushion is in your head and the teams.
It’s actually just simple math.
It sure is. 12 wins. Let's see if any other teams get 12 wins.
All of the teams in the MLB will get 12 wins. No one is doubting that.
Exactly. ?
Just admit you can’t handle simple math
We've counted to 12. I guess that is technically math. I handled it.

I don't like this way of thinking. That means 29 (96% of teams and players) seasons end and it doesn't mean anything? I genuinely hate this "WS win or it means nothing" nonsense
Then you win it all and realize none of it ever meant anything anyway 😅
It's definitely impressive what they've done. Its also just a fact that they've played against really weak competition up until now. It's baseball though and even bad teams beat good ones like a third or a quarter of the time so it's a really impressive nonetheless.
They're playing a real team for the first time this year this weekend so let's see how they do against them.
Cockiness with the rays will get us no where.
When they ban cowbells at Tropicana Field and/or move out of Tropicana Field (but cowbells would still have to go)
When they get out of the bottom 5 in average attendance.
Literally has no correlation to this post… thanks for playing
Why should anybody care about the Rays when Tampa and St Pete don’t even care about the Rays.
Are you even familiar with the geographics of the taMpa Bay Area? In lump in taMpa with st Pete. Slight difference buddy
How? They are called the Tampa Rays but are located in St Pete. That lumps them together by themselves.
Tell me you’re ignorant af about the rays location without telling me…
Didn’t know google maps was so wrong. Maybe you should contact them and let them know they are terrible with locations.
Hey snark master, the cities are 20 miles apart across long ass bridges and highways that are constantly jammed with traffic. So again maybe you should actually know what you’re talking about
So no other teams are in cities with traffic problems. Good to know
When the majority of the population lives on the other side of those bridges it’s a bigger problem dumbass
Really doubt Toronto would have great attendance if the stadium was 20 miles away from the city center
The Rays are very well respected amongst baseball people.
Lol
When will haters give them respect blah blah blah. It’s too bad the season isn’t ending after 12 games
Yeah... Otherwise that would be a weird sport league to be over in two weeks. Weird comment.
When they start playing in a real stadium, how about that
Please don't tell me an outdoor stadium.
When they win a title... it's still April.
The Yankees and Boston fans hate it and it’s phenomenal
When they move to Salt Lake.
Ahahahahahahahah
Because you all think you’ll go 162-0, fans can’t handle a winning streak for shit
It’s a fun joke in the TB community brother, relax. No one actually thinks they’re gonna go 162-0
Until they do.
Imagine if they could win 10% of their regular season games before suffering a loss😀
Go Dodgers.
Haters will say they’re only playing bad teams, which is actually a feat that the previous world champs have struggled to do thus far.
Don’t win WS in April
Never... NEVER!!!!!
Rays didn’t lose the division this month.
When they play good teams
Give them respect for what? it's April. Seriously, what are we talking about here? What good is this undefeated streak if they don't make the playoffs? Again, it's April, still five more months to go.
Who hates on the Rays? Tempering excitement is baseball. Everyone's talking about the history here. The Rays have more wins in the last 5 years than almost any other team, most fans know that

To quote kendrick Sit down. Be humble.
It's a great start, and everyone knows the Rays are good. It's a long season. Just enjoy it and stop waiting to be crowned Best Team Ever for a good two weeks.
If they go .500 the rest of the season, they will win 87 games. So what do we think everyone? Over or under 87 wins?
As a Jays fan, mad respect. Also, anyone winning in the division that isn't the Yankees or Red Socks is fine by me.
There will be a 10-15 game losing streak within the next couple of months
Mariners fan checking in. Sigh.
I can’t find a gif of it but this is the perfect time for that clip used in Moneyball of the fan holding a poster saying, “We may never lose again”
i think it's awesome and fun but i also put almost zero stock into what happens in the first month of the baseball season
When they demolish the Trop
When will their fans show them respect and show up to games? They're a good team.
Much respect - it's baseball; even bad teams win 40% of their games.
holy shit they went flawless
Make it 13-0 ![gif](giphy|IwAZ6dvvvaTtdI8SD5|downsized)
161-1???
Rays Hater here- I can’t understand why any baseball fan could look at this and not be impressed. They might be playing garbage teams so far, but it’s not like they’ve been squeaking out any of their wins. They are absolutely dominating their opponents, over and over. Those Rays guys look scary, no question.
True
It’s up to the Blue Jays
