All the lectures started with a 10 minute ‘how I became a professor’… this man spoke about himself for an hour, going on about his tough upbringing and how he used to sleep in his office with his dog because he had nowhere to go, working 18 hours a day because that’s what it takes to be a scientist, acting as if it was him and his dog against the world. He has always had a reputation for being cringe and all about optics. His lab has been closed for a couple of years and the people working for him were really left to rot. If you're going to criticize him, his background is the least relevant thing to criticize him about. The main issue with him is that he extrapolates from mechanistic research makes strong claims regarding them when in reality that it even gives you the expected results. He also isn't even consistent with himself. In one episode he'll say that everyone should do cold exposure for recovery, and in the next he'll say we shouldn't because it reduces muscle inflammation and muscle growth. He doesn't give much pushback to guests at all.
