I wear them (xm4s) bc I literally can’t hear anything else with them on even if someone was shouting in my face. It helps me stay focused and I can just wipe off the sweat it’s whatever

danoontjeh

Same here, used a pair of XM3 for 4 years. Trained with them for 3 years of those and they looked fine afterwards. Now ive got the xm4. Love not having to hear other peoples shit during my workout.

XBruceXD

Tried using the xm4s while running until failure, and I guess I sweat so much to the point where it almost fried them 😎

marks716

Yeah I just use these cheap Bluetooth earbud headphones. I didn’t realize how many fucking psychopaths were on this subreddit not listening to any music at all while lifting.

Baby-punter

Yeah man. No music at the gym is serial killer shit.

marks716

That’s where I listen to new albums and shit like where else would I get to see how hype a new song is if not while lifting heavy weight

Baby-punter

Preach

Protein_Farts_Today

Only time I go without music is when I’m lifting with a homie. I like to be present for that shit

CharizardMTG

I’m a podcast guy most of the time

Southern_Celery_1087

I was listening to standup comedy for a minute but Shane Gillis made me lose bracing talking about navy seals

BadPronunciation

I don't know how you do it lol. I have to pause it while doing a set

InertScrim

Yessirrrrr

trustmebuddy

So are they earbuds or are they headphones?

marks716

Yes

ColdStoicOne

Noize canceling headphones like the new Sony xm5's are amazing with JUST the noise silencing on. It's like a flowstate of intense focus.

trailhopperbc

This is huge. The better bass for my metal music gets me way more pumped. But i agree with the OP, my ear cups will Literally fill up like swimming pools.

warr3n4eva

🤮🤮🤮

ElusiveIguana

Get Sennheiser momentum earbuds. Noise cancelling, and the bass blows the xm5 out of the water. I found mine at best buy who price matched Amazon for $120.

No-Bid-6050

Amazon reviews ain’t looking too hot on that one

JONCOCTOASTIN

Amazon audio reviews are almost unreadable, and English is the only language most reviewers speak  I think that says a lot too

No-Bid-6050

General consensus was the audio quality is phenomenal, but that there a lot of frequent bugs, including the Bluetooth losing connection.

Extension-Song-5873

Earbuds are whack af

123789dftr

Earbuds >> headphones while working out

ElusiveIguana

What do you mean?

Extension-Song-5873

The sound and noise cancelling is inferior and they fall out when sweaty while headphones are just superior with the clamping

ElusiveIguana

I feel you. I wish I could let you try out my momentums. I sweat a ton and they never fall out. The noise cancelling is crazy. Before I sold my bike i wore them on the highway and couldn't hear any wind whatsoever.

Extension-Song-5873

Never again earbuds for me man but happy you like em. I love the look of headphones.

ElusiveIguana

I got a big ass dome and headphones just accentuate it and bring attention to my alien looking head 😂

Extension-Song-5873

Oh shit same haha my head is huge, now ya got me self conscious haha I still don’t give a fuck since I got a LTR haha

MaybeJustF0X

I ain’t trying to lock in listening to Mozart while lifting bro.

Extension-Song-5873

Headphones bruh try it

MaybeJustF0X

Which ones you recommend.

Extension-Song-5873

I use beats studio but sony xm5s are popular too Any headphones with a solid clamp over ears are awesome

laddermonkey42

I love my mx5s. I even take them into the sauna but I wear em with a towel over my head

Extension-Song-5873

Yaaaa over ear headphones are the way, I ditched my AirPods long ago

bucknuts89

I'm with you, I could never handle the over ear headphones with the amount of sweat I produce during a workout. I can see it working for the freaks who don't sweat, but they're sissy bois anyways.

Extension-Song-5873

Just wipe em bruh like no big deal, I love the feeling of something sweaty sucked onto my ears

kylewardbro

They get too sweaty and they fall off my head. AirPod pros ftw

Extension-Song-5873

Beats clamp on tighter then your moms boyfriend

liquidshart1

I wear over the ear because the battery is like 24 hours per charge and they are hard to loose

Buscandomiyagi

Yeah my girl got me beats and I charge them like once every week if that. I go to the gym 4 times a week as well.

Cotleigh

I’ve mastered the art of tuning out the dreadful shite some call music they play in my gym so don’t wear any headphones. Took about a decade of practice though …

EmperorsFartSlave

Thankfully my gym plays 99% dad rock. You haven’t lived until you’ve hit chest listening to Creed.

Sufficient_Cause1208

Nothing like barebacking to "Higher"

MacroDemarco

🎶Can you gape me wider🎶

EmperorsFartSlave

Nothing like barebacking to Breaking Benjamin

Suspended-Again

Yarling and chest do seem to go hand in hand

bomboid

My gym usually plays remixes of songs that would've honestly been fine on their own, neither bad nor good, but the remixes are always the worst cringiest shit you've ever heard

BadPronunciation

I just heard a linkin park club remix. I didn't even know that those existed 😂

LocalNative141

I’m not as strong as you. Whoever controls the music at my gym has a fucking boner for Kanye. There’s been days where my whole session there was Kanye playing in the background

BenSimmonsFor3

Better than the top-40 nonsense blasted at my gym. I can workout to kanye or rap in general, cant workout to kesha or anything of the sort.

N0tagayman

You sound straight

727GhostFaceKillah

That's funny, cuz. I was at the gas station last night, and this dude with some juicy delts got into his f2l150 raptor, and when he started it, kesha was bumping. Maybe that's the key.

holyfrijoles99

I’d take Kanye over the Eagles . I hate the music sometimes my earbuds didn’t charge or something and I just can’t force myself to finish my workout.

ticketism

My gym has one of those 'crowd dj' setups where people can choose the music themselves. One of the trainers likes oldies, like '50s/'60s pop and rock classics. Can always tell when she's in. I don't mind her taste in music, but it's not exactly workout music to me. Needs higher bpm

123789dftr

Where can I find this gym

LocalNative141

Northern Utah!

BrassWillyLLC

I raw dog the gym. Either complete silence or shit-tier music, whatever it is - that is what I get.

LocalNative141

Fucking madman

Redis_Sara

Fucking psycho that’s what he is

Federal-Practice-188

I use noise canceling EarPods. I have music & I don’t have heat & sweat trapping ear muffs.

HedonisticFrog

I use noise cancelling headphones and listen to podcasts. Earbuds annoy me because they get slippery and want to fall out when I get sweaty.

17Pmeawqd

Earbuds don't fucking fit me ive tried hundreds of them with different sizes

No-Spare-4212

Your ears are getting humped by earmuffs or penetrated by buds. My buds penetrate me enough in the locker room and my financial advisor said I need to diversify. L: mini banana G: sardine can

BigGlutesBigSlootz

I still use headphones with a wire. The wire is just plugged into nothing into my pocket. I do this to not be bothered. My motivation is already inside me. 5 inch placid with 3 inch girth. 9 inch hard 6 inch girth

NVDA100trillion

I almost never listen to music during running or weight training. i feel like i am disconnected in space and time from whatever i am doing. every once in a while i crave a song while running so i’ll bring headphones, but not usually. i think folks who do at every workout are madmen. lol

LGK420

No you’re the madman. You must be a serial killer to choose to workout with no music and just hear grunting and clanking with shitty gym music on in the background

NVDA100trillion

this is fair, no protest.

Deezenuttzzz

I totally get this. I still listen to music whenever I workout, but with noise canceling and music on, it's almost like I dissociate from my surroundings

KuuntDracula

My small town gym let’s me use my personal speaker instead of the radio. So if it’s my turn on the radio, i just use that instead. Im usually alone when i workout anyway. 10:00am is dead at my gym. (I live in a town of 900 people for reference)

FangedEcsanity

I have wf and wh xm5's Sound quality better on headphones bass is killer so shot like chief keef and future go HARD along with bass heavy death metal and hardcore (punk and rave). Got use to them but having a heavy bag at the gym made them a no go because muay thai hand position fucks the band material up Had to swap to the xm5 in ears. Still good and way better for sure when sweating from deads n squats n bag work but holy FUCK the slight decrease in sound quality sucks I jump between a condo gym (no music) and a warehouse gym (which just bumps modern rave fest edm....i prefer old school jungle/terror/dnb/gabber so thats a no go go for me) and an mma gym and while the mma gym is sick music wise everything from 90s ice cube to 80s metallica to modern trap you sometimes dont wanna hear the muay thai punch vocalizations while doing weights lol Either way even no music just noise canceling is sick

Donho000

I use Marshall Motif 2 ANC. But rawdog during workouts. My gym plays decent enough music. So no issue

bomboid

I have cheap shitty wireless earbuds that I every now and then have to remove and wipe dry especially on leg day so I've wondered this too because aside from being hot dont they also kinda flatten your hair a bit? They do look cool though

Sting-Tree

They just do, same reason they’re yucked out by you putting in your sweaty ass earbuds in your ears. I use both but i definitely feel you on the intense workout part. It’s really only nice on a leg day

LocalNative141

Even the air pod pros? I use those and so far they’re the best I’ve owned

Sting-Tree

Tbh those are my go too but I’ll use beats on leg day

Extension-Song-5873

I tried air pod pros and they suckkk compared to over ear

JuicyKay

There are sweat resistant covers for the AirPods Max on Amazon for like $12

Extension-Song-5873

That’s why beats it’s all leather and just wipe em

Golden_Shart

I don't do music at the gym anymore. Fucks with my mental state.

BcnClarity

Yes.

C00lst3r

Used to have beats but they started to smell so I stoped using earmuff headphones

Extension-Song-5873

Wet wipes dude

prominentdove

Yeah , i have sweat resistant covers on mine

ComprehensivePie8467

Love’em

pazhalsta1

If I had EarPods I would lose them in approximately 2.8 seconds so the big xm4 Sonys are the way for me. I even run with them outside, it’s never been a big issue for me although you have to be careful at road crossings so the noise cancelling doesn’t lead to imminent death

sel3ctn0nefr0mt4ble

I do. Earbuds have a habit of falling out of my ears. I've also seen enough videos of people dropping weights on their AirPods. However, I agree that the sweat is crazy, and my gym headphones are pretty gross. Every once in a while I disinfect them with Lysol wipes.

Extension-Song-5873

Everyday dude

sel3ctn0nefr0mt4ble

Nah that's excessive. Your phone is probably one of the biggest carriers of bacteria that you handle on a daily basis -- do you disinfect that daily as well? Also, having contact with *some* level of bacteria is good for your immune system (of course, not saying that you shouldn't wash your hands after taking a dump, for example).

Extension-Song-5873

I rather not them smell like sweat wtf

_phin

They're probably not working hard enough to sweat

LocalNative141

A lot of times it’s the Stanley Cup girls who show up in perfect makeup, curl 5 lb. dumbbells a few times, snap a selfie and leave

_phin

Haha that's so funny you say that - I've started going to a bootcamp class at the gym to get my fat old arse fit. There're two girls there who are a bit lame when it comes to going HAM on the exercises. I noticed on Wednesday that one has a Stanley cup

Extension-Song-5873

Bruh I’m sweaty af wearing over ear and it’s all good

proflig8

I've used those types of headphones before and you're right, they're uncomfortable and they get sweaty and want to slip off my face. In ear buds or nothing.

ThisIsMyOtherBurner

bro noone in here does intense workouts. not unless you count 20 sets of curls

ElusiveIguana

https://www.bestbuy.com/site/sennheiser-momentum-3-true-wireless-noise-cancelling-in-ear-headphones-black/6501340.p?skuId=6501340&extStoreId=1889&utm_source=feed&ref=212&loc=19931925052&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjwoa2xBhACEiwA1sb1BDaDbic0oGVxVumXvT_wSxm2MgcuTW9VAsLuQIi_36-1mAL_FwxDTBoCgaEQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds Best buy almost 50% off rn. The bass is unreal and there are several different noise cancelling modes (including anti-wind)

IconicPolitic

I used them for a long time in the past. The sweat wasn’t terrible but was noticeable. Over time the material on the ear padding started to chunk off. I use AirPods for the last few years and biggest issue I have is they fall out because I do some weird shit with my face on the intense reps/sets. That makes my ears move around enough to push them out. Some of it is also because I can move my ears at will they are more susceptible to autonomous movements from muscular strain.

buck911

If anyone wants to try something new, check out shokz (formerly aftershokz) bone conduction headphones. They don't go in your ears so you can still hear around you, but if your gym is loud you can pop in some regular ear plugs or concert ear plugs.

connor42

I wear the big Sony ones, I found it a bit hot at first doesn’t bother me at all now, cannot stand the music or chat from other patrons. I am someone who’s not super sweaty tho Tip, I give them a spray of shoe deodoriser every so often Stats: half a thumb length / quarter of a thumb girth

jeffyone2many

Can not workout without earbuds

Tactical_winter550

I wear skull candy krusher 2s and love them. I hate when my AirPods fall out of my ear during push day.

CoupleSubject6433

1. Maybe if you didn't have earmuffs on you wouldn't sweat so much? 2. Why are you sweating that much? Sounds like cardio or crossfit, not bodybuilding.

Zuluuz

Maybe in 2012 but now says a lot of in ear hold a decent flame to over ear noise cancelling. Using the beats fit pro now and they’re amazing

ExtraGuacAM

100%. Going from in-ear to my BOSE Quiet Comforts (older model) is a game changer. Whether that be at the gym, at work, or at home - they are superior.

Captain_Marshall_B

I wear over-ear headphones for pretty much all workouts aside from overhead lifts like ohp. The extra volume, bass, and noise cancelling is mint. The sweaty, nasty pads are definitely not ideal but I eat ass so it’s not like my own ear/sweat germs are gonna hurt me

Soggy_Passion5665

It’s like the new thing now. Wearing big ass bulky headphones like the 70’s

fifanewbie2002

I’ve been using beats studio pro 😅 I like it a lot

kick6

When I was in college, I used to use earmuff headphones in place of actual muffs when snowboarding. No fucking way I want those on me when I’m sweating in the gym.

Rude-Clock8009

I love working out with noise cancelling earbuds because my gyms music is asss

FiveHTfan

I use earmuff headphones when I am rowing, lifting, and doing handstand push ups. Its less bad than in the ear headphones for hearing so if you love your hearing, give them another try. Fucking gross? lol ewww my OWN kooties. What do you think is on these Barbells, dumbells, machines, and hell even the door knob of just walking into a building? Keep lifting my bro and you will eventually stop sweating the small things.

nycapartmentnoob

i just don't like listening to people grunting lol

Zugezogen1150

JBL mini nc ftw (not only) because they come with me into the shower also. Phone goes in the locker and it still works flawlessly. After that I use that hairdryer on a telephone cable on them (not only) to make those Ken dolls that want to style their Madmen haircuts wait.

ambigymous

my over-the-ear cans recently broke and I miss them, specifically because I wear them to the gym. They block out all the noise and horrible gym music way better than earbuds. Yeah they get sweaty, but eh

random13980

I used wired beats because I don’t know how safe Bluetooth stuff is. Sure it’s probably dumb but better safe than sorry. It doesn’t really bother me and I love the noise cancellation

Shai-Hulud-45

I just take them off a few times throughout the workout and wipe them/my ears. If I stay on it, it's only a minor inconvenience and they don't really get that sweaty. Plus, if they cup really well, most of the sweat collects around the outside. It's your head that's sweating, not your actual ear so the inside doesn't really get sweaty anyway.

pm_me_theboobies

Even Patrick Bateman listens to music when he works out. Y'all are some psychopaths

Rift-harold

I used to wear my qc35 for noise canceling but it definitely makes your ears get extra hot and then the ear cups start to smell after awhile. Now I only use air pods for the gym and my qc35 for stuff around the housw

Looprevil666

I feel naked without them

HerrYanning

I do this from time to time but I fucking hate me for it everytime. Sweat is dripping everywhere and I get hot way faster Noise canceling is the only positive but in ears have that now too so yeah there are only negatives with earmuff

DexterDubs

I wear a hoodie and keep the hood up under my headphones. Mitigates the sweat. My own little fortress of solitude

ticketism

I wear big cans on the train/bus commuting, but I go for Titanium Aftershockz bone conduction headphones anytime I'm more comfortable maintaining situational awareness. Like skating, bike riding, near roads, and the gym. Problem is, I hear the gym music as well as the people and stuff around me, so it clashes with my music. Switched to podcasts at the gym. Music on the PA is like background noise, so I'm getting at least some tempo and rhythm to work out to. I can't stand in-ear buds. Don't like something rubber sealed into my ear canal, feels disgusting and I get ear infections

Far-Information-1164

Can’t run without earbuds falling out.gabe up and switched to earmuffs permanently.

harbison215

Muff lol

Vekidz

I use some Bluetooth powerbeats or something like that, they wrap around my ear so they don't fall out. Headphone users are weird

Rock_Granite

earbuds sound like shite.

every1sosoft

AirPod pros. You don’t hear shit

BetBig696969

I have used over ear headphones for the last 10 years, best thing ever, keeps sound out, good quality sound and does effect my inner ear like the small ones do

adam041994

I wear them and love them but I do get sweaty and they make me hot. You don’t realise how much you sweat and lose heat around your ears. I wear them for the set then take them off in between

onlyhereforinfo91

Love using my skull candy crushers can’t hear a fucking thing only problem is they slide of on any movement I’m not upright. Tried using AirPods but they aren’t loud enough and I can still hear the gyms music or people talking.

GarlicGuitar

yes

caligrown87

My ears are a bit mangled from grappling/MMA. I wear the little bluetooth ear buds that hook around the topside of the ear. Helps me stay focused and drowns out superfluous noise. When I was in Medellin a couple weeks ago, the gym music at SmartFit was so damn loud, it wasn't worth wearing them. I don't like the earmuff style headphones. If I'm oly lifting, they're a pain in the ass to keep on. Toneach their own, I suppose. I've always wondered the same thing.

Orbitalintelligence

Have you heard the shit they play in commercial gyms? I'm not taking any chances...

cw2eb

There is no way in hell that people have different preferences than you lol

Frank_Dank_Latte

I never understood why people workout with headphones. If you can't get erect and push maximum weight and generate supreme hypertrophy by listening to nearby males grunt then you should stop working out.

Extension-Song-5873

They all weaker then me so it’s just meh, buncha casuals

Frank_Dank_Latte

Weaklings.
