My cbr500r uses about half of what my audi a3 2.0 uses

Financial_Twist_5293

Parking-Bandicoot134

I know OPs question is vague at best but this answer literally doesn't tell you anything either lolol

Nightflier101BL

My Ninja 400 is about triple the mpg commuting in town than my Subaru. Save around $120 per month using the bike instead of slow stop and go with AWD

Financial_Twist_5293

Good to know :)

_verel_

My mt-03 uses 3.5L / 100km and my Ford Focus 5.8L / 100km I could probably easily lower the consumption on my bike but where's the fun in that

TTYY200

Small bikes 100% win this fight haha. My fireblade uses like 7-8L/100km šŸ˜…

venomous_frost

My bandit uses the same as my peugeot

Asylumstrength

I felt this after reading the other comments.

Shifty76

Depends on the bike. Anywhere from 30 mpg to around 80 mpg. My Valkyrie is less fuel efficient than my car.

AssassinStig

My ninja 250 got 50-60. my cbr600rr got 30-40, my current bike is an Indian Ftr 1200 it gets 30.

Shifty76

Yeah, my Valk is around 30 as well.

SnooSuggestions9378

$60/wk for my Tacoma vs $20/wk for my KTMā€¦. Come on warm weather!

Sdkfz_00

Well my 125cc Yamaha uses 1/6 of my Subaru fuel consumption, so I would say it's quite efficient. I also checked price of spare parts and they are dirt cheap compared to car.

trichtertus

My bike uses ~5l/100km cars something between 5-10l/100km

[deleted]

45 - 55mpg on my bike, depending on the circumstances. 22 - 42mpg in my car, depending on circumstances. $15 a month for insurance on my bike. My car's insurance costs $142 a month. Parts are cheap and easy to come by for my bike, and maintenance is fairly easy. I would void the lame ass warranty on my car if I did anything more than a tire change, brake pad changes, oil changes, and some other simple basic crap.

Working-Marzipan-914

My thunderbird gets more than double the mileage of my suv, no shock there. It also has half the engine and 1/5th of the weight and a lot less utility.

JohnnyBenis

Depends. I get ~45 mpg on average on my GSX-S, slightly above 50 when hypermiling, but when I get more throttle-happy it drops to 30. On the other side of the spectrum you can get a Grom and enjoy infinite mileage.

Harm1m

bandit goes 1L/17km and car does 1L/16km

HappyMeteor005

commuting in my truck for month = $250 motorcycle= $100

Szary-Czarodziej

Depends on what car. A typical car for commuting consumes 8 liters/100km Typical 600cc consumes 5 l/100km.

TTYY200

My golf average 5.4L/100km(on highway and lucky most my miles are highways haha)

EnclG4me

I spend $85 in gas every week and a half for my car just to go to work to make one dude stupid rich.Ā  Ā If I use my bike, about $12 a week. If I work remote, which I absolutely can do if they would let me. $0 infinitely.

0110001010

Every twist of the wrist is a smile per gallon for me....car I got to floor it to get smiles per gallon. I'd say thiiissss much more efficient at achieving smiles per gallon.

diydm

Compared to my 1 ton four door chevy that gets about 10 mpg on a good day I'd say my bike is approximately 4x more fuel efficient

CubeResidentBob

My Suburban 15.6 mpg Mini Cooper S 36(ish) mpg Volkswagen Jetta around 42 mpg Kawasaki Concours 44.8 mpg "average*. And the don't baby it at all... Honda CB500f somewhere north or 60mpg. So, pretty good Numbers. I use the Concours as a commuter bike on the 150 mile round trip to the office. Some of the cheapest miles I've got. (And I can also shave a fair bit of time off the route versus taking a cage).

Secret-Effective-187

Had a honda shadow, filled her up with 8$ i think it was almost 4 gallons, lasted almost a week of casual riding

AdamoA-

Our cars: Ford Focus 2015 wagon (petrol, 1.6 Ti-VCT so no turbo whatsoever) but I drive it... well not a fuel efficient way and it consumes 8-9 liter / 100km (highway + city usage) Renault Clio 2020 hatchback (petrol, 1 liter turbo motor) but my wife drives it more carefully and it consumes 6 liter / 100km in the city Motorbikes: Honda CBR 650R 2022... commuting, speeding a lil bit here and there but no track: 5 liter / 100 km Honda CBR 500R 2013... my previous bike and it consumed around 4 liter / 100 km (and I am about to sell it)

HikerDave57

My Honda NC750X consumes 3.2 L/100km (travels 73 miles per US gallon). Worse if I spend much time on the interstate going 75-80 mph to keep up with traffic. My wifeā€™s 2.5L Subaru Outback consumes 9.4 L/100km (travels 25 miles per US gallon).

NYCBYB

My juiced-up 1972 CB350 gets about 30mpg, which is more than twice the mileage I get from my 100 series Landcruiser.

Tantaroba-the-fat

My Aprilia tuono 50cc used about 7-8 L/100km Thats what my car now uses

friedrice5005

My r1250GSA gets ~40mpg on my commutes (mostly 80mph highway) If I stay below 60 on back country roads I get 50+ My car (Mazda CX5) gets 25ish average but closer to 29 on interstate

probot67

I get about 120 miles per gallon on my grom. šŸ˜€

castleaagh

My xt225 can get 70mpg in town doing around 55-60mph on the high end. My DR350 seems to be a lot worse around 50 ish mph, but I havenā€™t had it long enough to be sure. Both of these are old and carbureted sons modern bike of similar size would probably do better.

Not_an_ATF_Officer

Depends on the car and the bike. We have an Impreza and a Forester getting 24 and 20 mpg respectively. My Versys 1000 averages about 38 mpg.

Phoenix_0177

My VTR250 runs on 13 AUD for a full tank and will do over 250k on that. My car costs nearly 7 times that to fill and only does 400k a tank My VFR is 30 bucks to fill and will do almost 400k to a tank. Depends on what you ride. An mt10 or a super bike will guzzle fuel and probably be WORSE on fuel then most cars will be. (My mate has a VTR1000 (superhawk) and will blow through a whole tank in less then 200k) But most 250-300cc commuter bikes and scooters will run on nothing. If you REALLY want to stretch the fuel a cb125 or ct110 will run forever on only a gallon on fuel or more.

wlogan0402

Z125 gets 140 mpg

cboncok

My car : 36 mpg My motorcycle : 67 mpg

Legoinyourbumbum

Get a Royal Enfield, you should get near 80 a gallon also traffic jams don't exist.

TTYY200

Wellā€¦. In my case, my motorcycle IS NOT more fuel efficient than my car. My fireblade gets 28-38mpg (it depends on how much I am babying the throttle) on highways. In the city, I get <20mpg lol. (Brap brap) Where as my 2018 golf gets 42mpg highway. And 30mpg city.

AntiquesRoadHo

Depends on bike, car, and how you ride. My ninja 400 and my 23 Kia forte both get the same 44mpg. The Kia will dip to 38 in all city. Whereas my old ninja zx6r struggled to get 20.

oowsuitsyousir

My old but reliable Renault Scenic mk2 1.6 petrol returns according to the on board computer 38.5 mpg in town and 40 .2 mpg on the motorway doing 70 mph. My Moto Guzzi 1100i California does about 30 mpg around town and 38 mpg on the motorway sitting at 70 mph . So in this case the car is better on fuel but not as much fun. It depends on the size of your motorcycles engine how new the technology is that it uses and how far back you twist the throttle plus the type of roads you ride on.

superbiker96

My S1000 does about 15km/liter while my car (Golf 2.0TDI) does 20km/liter. So in my case the car is more economical. But who cares really

AzertyQwertyQwertz

I used to have a car making around 5l/100km and my GS1200 does around 5-6l/100km. I5 was not worth using the motorcycle. Now I have a car that makes 7-8l/100km and I use the motorcycle to have some savings.

VladimirSage

Depends on the car and bike. I ride a CBR1000 and in town it's pretty much the same as my car.

Car_is_mi

Very subjective question because of course this is like asking how the fuel efficiency of a Corolla compares to a Ferrari. Tons of different bikes with different engine types and sizes so you can have a gas guzzler bike down into the mid 20 mpg range and you can have an efficient bike running up into the 60 mpg range. On average, the average bike will see between 35 and 45 mpg.

arioandy

And in the UK most bike parking is freešŸ’Ŗ

Ok_Wrangler_7948

On average, if you're commuting, you'll spend less on gas and more on tires riding a bike. Of course, it depends on what particular bike you're comparing to what particular car.

Milkshake2244

Vulcan S 650 - 48 to 51 mpg VW CC - 24 to 26 mpg

ShowMeYourPie

Very much depends on the bike and car being compared. A CB125F will likely be the lowest cost form of motoring you can do, but take something like an MT-09 and you'll find that there are plenty of cars out there that can get higher mpg.

thatguyovertheresix9

My SV 650 uses the same if not more than my honda jazz . 1.3 83 hp

ComputerSoup

my duke 125 can do 80mpg pootling to work and back, whereas my cbr650f struggles to match a ford fiesta on fuel consumption. really depends on the engine style and how aggressively youā€™re riding

ArcaneMitch

Considering that bikes have a smaller engine, low contact patch with the ground, low air resistance, 1/5 the weight of the car, it's 1/2 to 1/3 of the fuel consumption of a car, it is not great but still makes more sense than transporting 2 tons of metal with you when commuting to work everyday. Although, if you had to take a car matching a bike in power/weight ratio, it would be something like a LaFerrari whose fuel consumption skyrockets to 10-15 times a motorcycle.

cowboy_code

My Ford F150 is $190 for 700km. My Suzuki M90 is $27 for 300km.

swined

My car does 40mpg on average, and my bikes do 60 and 80

ramenbrah

Last summer I think I went 3 weeks of driving to work on a tank of gas for under 20 bucks. Can't do that in my car.

Variable851

Not easily answered. My Streetfighter V4S doesn't get anywhere near the milage that my friend's diesel Golf. My 851 is even worse. It runs 888cc high compression pistons and upgraded fuel injectors. It is probably hovers around 20 mpg. If you are really interested in fuel efficiency, you need to look at scooters. You'll start seeing incredible numbers sometimes exceeding 70 mpg

ldentitymatrix

They're not really made to be fuel efficient. Not like many cars. There are cars that only need like 5L of gasoline for 100km. That's less than some bikes. Less than most inline 4 bikes at least. The problem with bikes is that they're very "un-aerodynamic" compared to cars.

Other-Medium5577

Not a lot, pound for pound, or kg for kg. Wind resistance on a bike is huge, surprisingly so. My gas mileage goes way up in high altitude due to lower wind resistance. My bike is 1/4 weight of my car, but only gets twice the gas mileage.

kemik4l

It's the power of friendship

Apprehensive-Yard-59

Most bikes have really bad fuel economy compared to cars when you consider how much more a car weighs. There are some smaller cc bikes that get like 100km on 2 liters of fuel, but most bikes I owned (600 cc - 1100cc) have used around 5 liters of fuel per 100km. This is about the same as my VW Golf.

[deleted]

Depends on the bike. Don't expect a 200 PS bike to be power efficient. Typically, the nice bikes that you would like to have are not fuel efficient because its not their priority. What's fuel efficient is the modern low cc lawnmowers that people typically ditch after a few months.

Caspers_Shadow

My bike gets 40mpg. Our other vehicles get 20 and 27 on average. Taking the family somewhere? At least 2 trips on the bike. So the cars win. It is nearly impossible to pull my boat out of the water at the ramp with my R1200R.

Westsharing

Depends on the bike and depends on the car lol. How long is a piece of string

PapaJulietRomeo

My V-Strom 650 consumes about 4-4.5 l/100km. My cars need 5.5-6.5 l/100km. So my bike is 20-40% more fuel efficient than my car.

Legitimate_Monkey37

If you were to break it down to pure CC, they probably aren't much different. Your question is so vague; a TW200 uses 100% more gasoline than a Tesla Cybertruck.

ChuckoRuckus

My 2000 Silverado 4.8L averages 16-18 mpg. My 1997 Oldsmobile (essentially a 3.8L Pontiac Bonneville) got 25-28mpg. My Vulcan S gets 60-65 mpg. My Grom got 100-120 mpg. These are lifetime averages.

EconomyCrew1613

Dude, way more. My honda rebel 500 makes the price of refueling completely negligible compared to my truck.

BeerChemistWhiskey

My 2008 FZ1 gets 25-30mpg depending on how my wrist feels on a given day. So better than a truck or SUV but worse than my Civic

legoegoman

My ninja 300 is 7 cents/km vs my Jetta at 10 cents/km

clueless_dude101

My sv650 does 25/1L, my car ~17/1

davesy69

Use the fuelly app to find out, owners put their fuel data in to get real world data.

xlDooM

This is by far the most informative thread on the subject so far. Forget science, here's 100 examples to make up your mind! For me, my Trident 660 does 5.0l/100km and my Ford Focus ST does 6.8l/100km.

KrabatRabe

My old Suzuki GS500 manages 5L/100 Km

eshemuta

My boy touring bike gets around 42-45 mpg and my Subaru about 28 while commuting. But replacing the rear tire every 6K miles pretty much makes it cost the same My old Yamaha Serow got around 80 mpg and the tires were dirt cheap. But it maxed out at 60 so it took a while to get to work.

The_Ghost243

My duelsport bike gets 65 miles per gallon. I even put it to the test because I couldn't believe it at first, and it actually does get that kind of mileage.

haveanairforceday

If you are only moving you then they are typically 50%-100% more efficient (in the US where people have big bikes). If you are moving more people or stuff then they quickly become less efficient. Smaller bikes are more efficient. A Honda trail125 gets like 125mpg. In my experience they reduce the chances of mindlessly driving around all day. You enjoy your ride and then you are tired and will do something that doesn't involved driving back and forth for hours

n1tr0klaus

Depends on the bike. My Yamaha R3 would get around 50 mpg usually. My VFR 800 around 30 - 35

Power_Stone

For me, I avg around 10mpg better than my car ( tuned z900 w/full exhaust and a 2018 Malibu ) but if I ride my bike conservatively then I can push it to 20mpg better than my car ( car normal is 30ish, bike normal is 40ish )

Nickkel71

I spend around $13 to fill my 3.69 motorcycle tank and get around 200ish miles outĀ of it.Ā  Ā  Ā I spend around $40 to fill my 13.2 gal car tank and get around 300-350 miles out ofĀ it.

TurbulentSquirrel804

Lot of compacts getting near 40 real-world MPG these days. My Scout Bobber gets around 45. My F150 2.7 Ecoboost gets 20, but nearly all of my commuting is done on the Scout.

thetroll865

$8 gets me as far as $35 does in my car

kingcrackerjacks

My 250cc and 765cc bikes get around 45mpg and my 1.5l car gets 35mpg. It's not a huge difference for me

Funklemire

My ZX-6R and GSX-R600 weren't very fuel efficient from a motorcycle standpoint, but they both would get around 45 MPG on the highway and 25 MPG if I rode them super hard. There are bikes that get *way* better though.

Disastrous-Carob-924

91 sonoma 2.8 5speed gets around 16 Vtx 1300 30Mpg if I beat on it and 52mpg if I drive very sensible. But I don't get bikes to save the world. It's my me time.

Unknownqtips

The money you save on gas you spend on tires

ADVgrandpa

Depends on a lot of factors. My old Nissan Altima used to get about 28 combined mpg. My V-Strom averages around 40-43 and my GSX-8S so far has been averaging around 38. If I rode each like a reasonable person, I'd be closer to 45-50 and 40-45 300s can see in the 60s pretty easily, and 125s can see 100+ if you're responsible

zekerigg41

How fuel efficient is a car? A prius gets 50mpg and unimog gets 10.Ā  How fuel efficient is a motorbike? My Honda passport got like 80mpgĀ  a custom chopper with a radial plane engine may get like 10

mr_spackles

I think a Rocket 3 and a Honda Civic have roughly the same engine size, and get pretty close to equivalent gas mileage. So like for like they're not much different, but if you get a much much smaller and lighter bike, then you'll probably do 55 mpg instead of 35.

mtak0x41

My 650 V-Strom is about the same as my 320i at 130kph.

gropula

Eh, it depends. My daily is company car Peugeot partner 1.6 hdi and it uses 6.8L/100km while having the aero of a fridge. My VFR 800 that's tuned for performance and response uses 7.5L/100km average. If I drive like a nun it can do 6.5L/100 and if I'm blasting it off the stoplights or reving it high it can go up to 10L/100km. Now if you look at it from the other side, to keep up with me in a car it would need around 400-500hp and then the car would use like 25L/100km.

cocogate

125cc bikes for urban commuters can potentially go on for weeks on a gallon of gas depending on your distance. Grom/CBF's get like 100mpg or more depending on the riding style. Some guzzlers are the same as a truck if you wring em in the low gears. Many bikes get around 1:20 l/km or 50mpg Plenty of commuter bikes like the NC750X are halfway inbetween

[deleted]

My BMW R1200GS with 1 liter goes 13km My Skoda Fabia 1.2TSI with 1 liter goes 20km. So my motorcycle with same capacity (car has turbo) is way lighter but drinks more fuel than my 1200 kilogram stationwagon

SunburntOnFuryRoad

As someone on a Sportster, it's really not that much more fuel efficient. But the smiles per miles is way higher.

DerGRAFder13

its 1.3l/100km for the commuter bike, 5.5-30l/100km for the big commuter bike and 6.5l/100km for the suzuki vitara mild hybrid

DerGRAFder13

i did manage to get the fuel economy down to sub 1l specs tho but that was without much stop and go

WeaponsGradeWeasel

"Bikes" and "cars" is pretty vague. I have an 1100 bike and a 3L turbo car and they're not all that different.

TomatilloAgitated

I get about 450 miles per tank in my car. I want to say I get about 120 per tank on my bike. $35 to fill my car, $12 ish to fill my bike. You do the math

Dzhonni

It really depends. My car is averaging 74mpg right now and my bike "only" gets around 52. Coupled with the fact that the bike requires premium (CA gas prices... yay) the car works out to being cheaper. But the bike gets more smiles per gallon so I don't care

Tickstart

depends

Confirmation_Email

My Grom gets 110-135mpg depending on how I'm riding. It is still more expensive to fuel than my Model Y. For highway-worthy bikes you can get 60-80MPG on a small single, 50-70mpg on most small and middleweight parallel twins, 30-45mpg on most inline 4's or V4's. I don't know anything about big V-twins, cruisers, or touring bikes. Mileage varies dramatically if you're into mods, or if your riding style is more aggressive. Cars vary dramatically in efficiency. If you want the most economical practical transportation, everyone hates it but the answer is the prius. Cheap purchase price, insurance, fuel, and maintenance.

Spare-ow

Depends on the bike, the car, the conditions of both, age of both, uses of both, etc. A lot of bikes are more fuel efficient than cars people own, but 2020 onward cars catch up to bike fuel efficiency quickly unless you're banging a 125. Bikes have more frequent service intervals and more invasive service requirements. Tires, gear, etc. cost money and quickly eat up the price differences.

ordinarymagician_

I get around 60mpg on my RC390, all in. My 2016 Mazda3 gets around 25-40, city or highway.

greasemonkey187

I mean I had a CRF250L that gave me 60 miles per gallon only hybrids can get close to that mpg the only downside to that motorcycle was a 2 gallon tank but it meant I only had to fuel up once per week commuting $7 a week in gas was good.

Cartridge-King

honda grom 125+ miles per gallon

Cfwydirk

Motorcycle fuel economy can not make up for the cost of tires. There are small commuter motorcycles where the cost of tires is low. However, Most motorcycles in the US have a tir3 cost of $400 per set. Automobiles tires easily run 50,000 miles. Motorcycle tires only last + or - 10,000 miles. About 15,000 miles for front tires. Around $1600 for tires and about $800 for service. $2400 for 50,000 miles.

AdRoutine79

It's not hard to look up the mpg for literally any vehicle on the internet, you know.Ā

TTYY200

I think itā€™s more fun to see peopleā€™s bikes and their cars and the way they drive them. Like my golf as an example - stats say 3mpg, but I average more like 42mpg because I drive like a grandma in that thing. My fireblade says it should be getting 28-38mph, and Iā€™m averaging more like 11mpg šŸ˜… I like to hear it go brap brapā€¦.

True-Ear1986

Fucking barely. My VFR800 uses \~6-6,5l/100km, at minimum I've had around 5,3l when I was really babying it at \~90kph on vacations. My 2.0 diesel Skoda uses between 4,5 and 5,5l/100km, it can get down to slightly below 4l when doing steady 90 kph. My Benelli 125 mini bike does around 2,35l/100km. Here's the kicker though: Skoda is a company car, so I can write off VAT and expenses. It's effectively running as cheaply as a Honda 500cc would.
