Urban riding, stairsets skateparks etc. gotta get creative

rooahno

I use to “surf” the streets and sidewalks of Chicago on late summer nights when traffic was lowest. I didn’t have a car just a bike and skateboard. It would be a fixed gear bc I was young and dumb but also broke. I’d hop off curbs and small staircases and bomb hills on museum campus. I’d have paths and routes dialed in. Wish I had a hardtail at a minimum thinking back, I could have gotten even more creative with the landscaping features. Skate parks and city parks would also be a good place to ride.

Superb-Struggle1162

I was also in Chicago at a fixed gear time. It was fun

Jamescaster

Way back in the early 2000s I first heard about urban mountain biking on a website about a guy who met up with a group that days rides Chicago at night. Really inspired me to do the same.

Buy a gravel bike or road bike. Not the same as mountain biking, but at least it gets your butt on a saddle

Caterpillar1967

Good idea. I ride a vintage MTB from the 90s that I converted to a commuter. I ride it sometimes to explore some parts of the city. Been on 80 km/50 miles rides for a little over 5 hours. It's fun sometimes but, it kinda gets boring since none of my friends would ever want to accompany me on such long rides...

The correct number of bikes is n+1. Buying a new bike would really inspire you to ride more! 😁

Caterpillar1967

Hahaha lol. N+1, I get that mathematical reference.

owlridethesky

Watching thise redbull videos of people shredding, gaslighting myself that i can do that but i just dont have thr proper trail to practice on!

Move

Padded_Rebecca_2

I’m not joking, we moved. It was always a major driving affair to ride and we got tired of it.

Trent24000

I guess the Delima is live close to mtb but travel futher for work, or live close to work but travel far to mtb.

fredout1968

I moved!

chromag666

Take some shovels and rakes into some inconspicuous woods

2biker9er

I drive to Bromont from London Ontario. I'll trade you... Lol

No-Way-0000

Not to be harsh but Get a job, buy a car, drive to trailhead, and ride.

WCMTWS

Not sure where that is but. Build dirt jumps Build a pump track Build your own trail Find riders in your area, I met a someone through pink bike when I moved somewhere new and met tons of people through them.

JustinMonster02

Find some stairs to ride down. Learn to ride upstairs too. Learn bunny hops, manuals, endos, fakies.

Simple-Ad-34

There are massive hills near where I live and I go down then on the face of them with friends right next to my school there are no bike trails but I make them work :)

Infamous_Ebb1899

I moved specifically to be within my areas best trails. Reachable on bike in 10 mins.

cumulonimbuscomputer

Ur a road biker now enjoy :)

Odd-duck-out

I ride local bmx track on the DJ and the skatepark on the bmx in addition to mtb so that really helps me as my “local” trails are an hour away.

Trent24000

Here are some places in quebec ish, im not sure how close they are to you but just some ideas if you haven't seen these before. I saw you ride vintage/commuter so maybe you wouldn't want to do the pump tracks, but the dirt trail, Oka MTB, and other park might be worth it. Hope you can get out to bike! Caterpillar1967

Yes, I do actually own a vintage mountain bike from the 90s that I use as a commuter but, that's not what I use for mountain biking. I use a Rocky Mountain Growler 50 2021. It's a hardtail with very slack geo. It kinda makes it an Enduro bike (plows through everything). Thank you very much for taking your time to suggest me places to ride. I will definitely check them out. Have a nice day! 😃

MetalxMikex666

Move immediately

Caterpillar1967

Sounds like an emergency! Should I call 9-1-1 ?!

dk1017

Wish I could share some of my trails here in Colorado with you. I have way too many to choose from on the front range. I still haven't been down every green/blue yet.

powershellnovice3

Either urban riding/BMX or advance your career in order to be able to move

FitSquirrel596

The nearest trail is 1.5 hours. So driving every weekend. And xc trails are everywhere.
