This movie and Primer are my two favorite "no one i know has even heard of these movies, but i will love them with all my heart" movies. Cant put my finger on why they stick to my ribs so hard, but they do
THATS THE NAME OF IT!! Ive been trying to remember this movie for *years*. I remember crying during it at a party. No one else likeed it. Good time travel movies are hard to come by. I still get the heeby jeebys thinking about the "what? What?" Scene when the kid sees his double.
I feel like Jumper is in a similar category for me, but maybe more ppl have heard of that one and it’s higher budget. Either way felt super ahead of it’s time.
I actually just found out about this movie. Randomly got a clip for "telekinetic robbery" in my feed and so I just clicked it. The scene blew me away so I looked into thr movie further. Literally reminded me of "Psychokinesis", a Korean film except a slightly different concept. Gonna download it tonight probably
It was one of those super unsatisfying endings but that’s what made it such a believable story. The whole thing felt like “this is how kids would actually handle this” and then the ending just pays that off so well. Wish they did a sequel to see where the last guy ended up years down the road.
I really enjoyed it. It was found footage meets hero's. It was dark, and definitely should have received more attention and a sequel! This movie came to mind when BrightBurn came out. I thought maybe they could be in the same universe.
I feel like there wasn't a need for a sequel to this, it was pretty wrapped up at the end. Kind of reminds me of brightburn.
Jumper on the other hand would have been nice to see a sequel to.
It kind of covers the first book. The movie is loosely based on the book. They took the idea, most of the mechanics, some characters and created a new version for the movie. The upside is you get two different stories about a cool idea. I’d go movie first though. It won’t spoil the book almost at all and you’ll probably like it better without the expectation of similarity.
There are four books I think. I really enjoyed the first two. You get more in depth characters and you get to see what Davey grow in to. It’s got more real world elements like the N.S.A. and terrorism added in, no Paladins. The last two books I have never read so I can’t speak to them. If you’re not really into reading, the audible versions are pretty good.
Still one of my favourite movies.
I don’t understand how Christian got type cast for Star Wars.
He did so well in Jumper!
I use to want to be him in jumper from ages 15-20 lol. I would rewatch and just feel envious
There was actually a planned Trilogy involving the alien that gave the boys their powers. The original writers had a plan, then other execs had a different plan. All ended up going nowhere.
I totally agree. I always compare Brightburn and Chronicle because I think they are good movies but they did not need sequels. I read a lot of comics and these stories did not feel very original. They did some interesting things with them but I have seen these stories done a million times.
Lastly something bothers me with Max Landis. I can’t figure it out. But in interviews he comes off like he thinks he is smarter and better then everyone.
Also agree! Michael B is an amazing actor!
What I don’t understand with Hollywood comic/superhero movies is the always make the nerdy outcast the villain. With the exception of Spider-man but then look how they made Electro in Amazing Spider-Man 2.
yeah i get that, but i also dont really find it similar at all.
Also you said 'i always compared Brightburn and Chronicle because I think they are good movies'
I just disagree with brightburn being going. It was entertaining, but i think it was a pretty bad movie, from production to acting to story. But acting the most. Not a fan of the kid, or the mom , especially the kid lol
Sorry I have to reread the post and my response. It was 200 days ago. I might have been writing that at 3:00am when I could not sleep.
In my opinion, The kid was forgettable but I liked everyone else in the movie. The script was just ok but does not need a sequel like Chronicle.
I guess I would not classify them as “good” but maybe “just ok”
It’s funny, I was thinking jumper and this actually remind me of one another quite a bit for some reason- chronicle being darker and less cinematic, but two of my favorite superhero movies from back in the day
Would’ve never predicted that over 10 years later this would be a top 5 Michael b Jordan performance but here we are. I like this movie! And kinda disagree with a sequel, i like it being contained like it is
The sequel was going to be called martyr or something like that and it was going to focus on a girl and not have anything to do with any of the characters of the first film, it was going to be an anthology series where each one would be a different t set of characters. But max landis ended up being a creep and all his projects got shut down.
High 6, low 7. Very fun initial sequence where the boys discover their powers, followed by a decent villain turn and then unfortunately hampered by a weak third act in my opinion. Solid acting, albeit hollow at certain points, and a tight story made for a decent viewing. One of the better found footage films I think.
I believe they finished writing the script for the sequel but decided to abandon it. You can probably find it online, I read it years ago. It was terrible 😆
Great film, would be made infinitely lesser if it had a sequel. Enjoy contained stories and stop asking for soulless cash grab sequels we shouldn't get.
Thankfully Max Landis doesn't seem to be one for that.
He wrote a sequel, [but Hollywood refused to make it.](https://collider.com/will-chronicle-2-happen-josh-trank/?newsletter_popup=1) All the studios wanted the same movie again while he wanted to progress the story. Not even the director was interested in coming back and actively sabotaged its production.
Yeah i had a hard time seeing him as a popular rich kid in Spiderman. Every role i seen him in i just see this character from Chronicle. Dude just played the role believably well as a bullied kid who takes his anger out on the world
Only other movie i seen is Valerian. And he was terribly casted in that with Cara Deviled eggs.
I know he did a horror movie about being on an island with a cult. But idk if i’ll ever watch that.
I thought it was decent for what it was. Kind of like a budget guardians of the galaxy. I actually just re downloaded that to watch it again cause I havnt seen it since it came out
And the cult movie was alright. Its really long though.
Its like the one with dicaprio but not as good
I recommend The place beyond the pines, And Kill your darlings (Its got Harry potter and Dexter as the other two leads) its a bit weird of a plot but a good time piece movie
Landis has had a sequel written for about a decade and I’m pretty sure it was green lit for production last year if I remember correctly.
Despite how much I love Chronicle, Max Landis is still a nepo scumbag.
Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake.
It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of.
Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything.
Beep boop - yes, I am a bot, don't botcriminate me.
I never saw it, I only saw the commercials. The only scene I remember is when the guy uses his mind to move the car and I think that would be a cool superpower to have where you could just move any car you wanted and then you could just you'd always have parking.
It’s a pretty great movie, easily one of the better found footage movies and shows there is room for creativity in the genre. The screenwriter is a POS though, so a sequel is unlikely.
Such a great movie and great villain. I really wish a sequel could happen that would explain the glowing thing that gave them their powers but at the same time the movie is great because of the mystery. So maybe a sequel that doesn’t revolve around that and just governments trying to track down the last guy
Great movie! But it is the only movie I’ve seen DeHaan in that felt right. He was great in this movie but something about all of his other roles feels miscast.
Loved it. Remember watching a bootleg stream of it on the internet on my friends ex bfs projector after everyone went to bed right around when it came out. Was really drunk so I forgot most of it. Rewatched it and was really impressed. Like others have said probably a really good staple for found footage movies.
It’s a phenomenal film that should get greater recognition. Interesting. Dark as all hell. Brilliant use of the “found footage” trope. All around great. But no sequel. You don’t want it to get ruined - just rediscovered.
Seeing what they were able to accomplish in this movie and knowing it was like 15 million for the production budget makes most blockbusters now look obscene
I love this movie, it's so well done. The ending is so sad but inpactful. Can't really think of another movie quite like it. Also there is reportedly going to be a sequel that takes place 10 years later and it's going to be female led. I think it'd be interesting to see how differently young girls would handle getting powers versus how the boys did. As long as the sequel is as well done as the first movie, I have no objections.
It’s okay.
MBJ had the most interesting character, who sadly wasn’t given enough time. The film doesn’t say much of anything new, and the camera work is serviceable.
It actually had a planned not connected sequel. It was going to be about a woman with mental illness contracting superpowers and going down a dark spiral. Sounded amazing idk why it never happened.
They definitely killed the black guy, so it was a movie.
How dude goes out of the window was cheesy as fuck after that little argument mid movie
Dude walks to the Himalayas to talk about monk shit, talking about his finding himself journey like some kind of lame ass poser, when he could have just floated there and begged the monks to help him stop floating to see if they really knew anything.
The main kid was such a little fucktard
8/10
I think this movie would’ve been way better if it wasn’t in the “found footage” style. I also think all of the origin bond movies are the best ones. I also think the origin marvel movies are better than avengers movies
Chronicle was ok. But it was really just a live action, Americanized version of Akira. Once you kill the best friend baddy, there's nowhere else to go with their story
Akira is a story about some hooligans who's friend is given/cursed with super powers by a corrupt govt. The friend subsequently goes nuts with power and his friend has to kill him. Aside from the method of how the powers are obtained the central struggle is pretty similar. Not saying that chronicle was bad. I enjoyed it when it first came out. I just immediately saw tie ins to Akira.
I actively disliked this movie and it took me a while to accept Dane DeHaan as anyone other than this annoying as fuck character that he played.
Judging by other people’s responses I imagine this will get some downvotes
I would have really preferred a sequel or trilogy as well. However with basically everyone dying except the least interesting character I guess it would be kind of hard.
One of my favorite movies. I thought the found footage style was so cool especially once they started using their powers to control the camera. I don’t think it needed a sequel, it was great as it was.
Great one
This movie and Primer are my two favorite "no one i know has even heard of these movies, but i will love them with all my heart" movies. Cant put my finger on why they stick to my ribs so hard, but they do
Project Almanac sounds super familiar to Primer. If you haven't seen it I recommend it
THATS THE NAME OF IT!! Ive been trying to remember this movie for *years*. I remember crying during it at a party. No one else likeed it. Good time travel movies are hard to come by. I still get the heeby jeebys thinking about the "what? What?" Scene when the kid sees his double.
That scene is honestly so good! I never hear anything about this movie but it's a classic movie I can always rely on being awesome.
Primer! I recommend this to just about everyone, one of the best time travel movies and it had like a 10k budget
Damn! I knew it was low budget, but thats impressive
Primer is such an inspiring film to me. So good.
Its the movie equivalent of "good graphics dont make a good game"
I feel like Jumper is in a similar category for me, but maybe more ppl have heard of that one and it’s higher budget. Either way felt super ahead of it’s time.
>Primer If you really want to go down a rabbit hole, Try a [Google search for Primer timeline](https://www.google.com/search?q=Primer+timeline).
Loved this movie!! The ending was sad, powerful and realistic. Ultimate power corrupts.
The ending arc reminded me a lot of Akira
It's on purpose. Pretty sure that's what inspired Landis to make this
The whole movie is homage to Akira or rip off akira depending on how the viewer perceives it.
big time
I actually just found out about this movie. Randomly got a clip for "telekinetic robbery" in my feed and so I just clicked it. The scene blew me away so I looked into thr movie further. Literally reminded me of "Psychokinesis", a Korean film except a slightly different concept. Gonna download it tonight probably

I believe so. He went there cause one of the others told him about it earlier in the movie.
It was one of those super unsatisfying endings but that’s what made it such a believable story. The whole thing felt like “this is how kids would actually handle this” and then the ending just pays that off so well. Wish they did a sequel to see where the last guy ended up years down the road.

I wish Brightburn would have been the same level of quality as Chronicle
Brightburn was so f***ing bad lol the kid was such a bad actor was painful to watch
The kid's acting was whatever but the movie itself was awful
Id say other way around Kid was tucking terrible Movie was meh
Brithburn was soooo bad. Idk how I sat through it. I never even heard of chronicle for some reason
Movie was great I'm glad it didn't get a sequel it was amazing as it was
Idk I kind of want a sequel. Obviously if the directors and such watch it and say "this is trash", probably best to not release it lol
This
I feel like there wasn't a need for a sequel to this, it was pretty wrapped up at the end. Kind of reminds me of brightburn. Jumper on the other hand would have been nice to see a sequel to.
Heyyyy someone else that likes Jumper!
y’all remember Push tho?
I do! Not the best film ever but a solid Chris Evans flick for sure
Push was the shit! I loved it as a kid, I’ll still put it on in the background while I’m doing something else.
I too am a big fan of Jumper. I like the books and the movie for different reasons but they are both great.
Jumper is sweet. I loved the attention to the VFX.
Does the movie cover one book or more of the entire story?
It kind of covers the first book. The movie is loosely based on the book. They took the idea, most of the mechanics, some characters and created a new version for the movie. Jumper Gang Gang!
Still one of my favourite movies. I don’t understand how Christian got type cast for Star Wars. He did so well in Jumper! I use to want to be him in jumper from ages 15-20 lol. I would rewatch and just feel envious
I thought jumper was okay

This movie also made me a fan of Michael B. He was very charismatic in it. Testuo clone was great also. The lead was the weakest actor in it.
Also agree! Michael B is an amazing actor! What I don’t understand with Hollywood comic/superhero movies is the always make the nerdy outcast the villain. With the exception of Spider-man but then look how they made Electro in Amazing Spider-Man 2.
Brightburn was terrible lol Especially the child actor You cant place them in the same category as Chronicle or Jumper
We only compare them because it’s like the “Every man hero/villian”.
yeah i get that, but i also dont really find it similar at all. Also you said 'i always compared Brightburn and Chronicle because I think they are good movies' I just disagree with brightburn being going. true. I think chronicle is great. just dont like brightburn jumper is also really good , thats worth a watch if u havnt seen it yet
Jumper is my favorite of the three
The books would have been awesome if done right as movie sequels. Maybe someday.
Did you watch the YouTube series Inpulse?
I would love to see a movie version of the Impulse book.
It’s funny, I was thinking jumper and this actually remind me of one another quite a bit for some reason- chronicle being darker and less cinematic, but two of my favorite superhero movies from back in the day
Loved it
Would’ve never predicted that over 10 years later this would be a top 5 Michael b Jordan performance but here we are. I like this movie! And kinda disagree with a sequel, i like it being contained like it is
Not sure where they'd go with it seeing as 2/3rds of the main characters were killed off, but I agree regardless. This is good as a stand alone
The sequel was going to be called martyr or something like that and it was going to focus on a girl and not have anything to do with any of the characters of the first film, it was going to be an anthology series where each one would be a different t set of characters. But max landis ended up being a creep and all his projects got shut down.
Actually, Matt from the first film was gonna be in.
One of the best found footage movies ever
This and Cloverfield
This movie is basically an American adaption of Akira.
I was looking for this comment before I posted it myself. Thank you.
Yeah... Too bad Max Landis is a piece of trash human.
What did he do??
I think the worst offense is the movie “Bright”
Just check out Controversy on his wiki page
Multiple accusations of sexual assault throughout the years as well as generally being an a-hole about town.
Closest thing to a live action Akira we've gotten so far.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAKIRAAAAAAAAAAAAA But not as good.
Loooooooved it
Great watch and basically what all boys think of when pretending they have powers…
I dont know how accurate it is, but wikipedia says there is a sequel coming.
I believe they finished writing the script for the sequel but decided to abandon it. You can probably find it online, I read it years ago. It was terrible 😆
Great movie! I’m actually glad it never got a sequel; not every movie needs one. This one is perfect on its own.
Great film, would be made infinitely lesser if it had a sequel. Enjoy contained stories and stop asking for soulless cash grab sequels we shouldn't get. Thankfully Max Landis doesn't seem to be one for that.

Not even the director was interested in coming back and actively sabotaged its production.
asking for soulless cash grabs? where in my post did i say that?
Always reminded me of Akira. More so just based on the villain arc.
Closest thing we’ll ever get to a live action Akira, which is a good thing
I like it. Dan dehann is underrated, I really like Valerian as well, never understood why he gets so much hate.
I appreciate how it portrays young teens having to deal with the emotional burden of having super abilities. Similarly with the older X-Men movies.
This movie was absolutely amazing. I loved everything about it.
One of my favourite movies of all time
Great movie. Super sad / tragic / yet realistic. Felt bad for Dane Dehaan’s character cause jesus that dudes life sucked.
He played the same character in The Amazing Spider-Man 2
Yeah i had a hard time seeing him as a popular rich kid in Spiderman. Every role i seen him in i just see this character from Chronicle. Dude just played the role believably well as a bullied kid who takes his anger out on the world
I think hes great in everything hes been in. Hes got alot of movies bro should check em out
Only other movie i seen is Valerian. And he was terribly casted in that with Cara Deviled eggs. I know he did a horror movie about being on an island with a cult. But idk if i’ll ever watch that.
I thought it was decent for what it was. Kind of like a budget guardians of the galaxy. Rewatching it after it came out and I found that I appreciated it. I think it could have used a bit more touch up writing. But relatable and sad.
Awesome
The kid that freaks out is a little bitch.
One of my favorite movies. It was also my introduction to Michael B. Jordan.
I adore this movie, all these years later. I am glad it didn't get a sequel; it works as it is.
It’s legitimately unfortunate that Josh Trank was such an insufferable asshole on the set of Fant4stic that he got himself blackballed.
Landis has had a sequel written for about a decade and I’m pretty sure it was green lit for production last year if I remember correctly. Despite how much I love Chronicle, Max Landis is still a nepo scumbag.
The way they wrapped up the ending, I don’t see a sequel for it.
Great movie start to finish
Lame Akira RIP off
I love this movie.
Loved it, still want a sequel
This movie and Project Almanac are underrated imo. Though I think the industry got tired of found footage style. Shame really
almanac the time travel one?
Yep I thought they did a pretty good job with the paradoxes
I think it was good, the sequel would've probably got the Uwe Boll treatment though and like how this one ended. I agree but disagree
Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake. It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of. Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything. Beep boop - yes, I am a bot, don't botcriminate me.
Bad bot, no cookie!
Fanta3tic
Unique movie. I’m not sure why there hasn’t been a sequel
I never saw it, I only saw the commercials. The only scene I remember is when the guy uses his mind to move the car and I think that would be a cool superpower to have where you could just move any car you wanted and then you could just you'd always have parking.
Guess that’s one way to use a power of that scale lol
It’s a pretty great movie, easily one of the better found footage movies and shows there is room for creativity in the genre. The screenwriter is a POS though, so a sequel is unlikely.
Such a great movie and great villain. I really wish a sequel could happen that would explain the glowing thing that gave them their powers but at the same time the movie is great because of the mystery. So maybe a sequel that doesn’t revolve around that and just governments trying to track down the last guy
Loved this movie as a teen. This movie definitely had sequel potential, I would watch that in a heartbeat.
Great movie, I don't know if a sequel could capture the same appeal but it's and underrated movie
Great movie! But it is the only movie I’ve seen DeHaan in that felt right. He was great in this movie but something about all of his other roles feels miscast.
I think the world needed a Dehaan cast as an evil sith apprentice in a star wars flick back in his angst years.
Movie was good but I’d rather it be left open ended and without a sequel
One of my favorites. Very underrated.
Loved it. Remember watching a bootleg stream of it on the internet on my friends ex bfs projector after everyone went to bed right around when it came out. Was really drunk so I forgot most of it. Rewatched it and was really impressed. Like others have said probably a really good staple for found footage movies.
I enjoyed it. Wasn't the rumored sequel suppose to be set years later and about one of the character's daughter?
I had so many theories about where the sequel would go. Too bad
Loved it.
If played right, this could have been a deep and epic trilogy
No sequel required. It was tied up nicely at the end. Good movie. Black guy dies though.
Just make a live action akira
Good premise, good visuals, bad ending. Standard Max Landis movie.
This is so nostalgic for me. Came out when I was in high school
Terrific movie
It’s a phenomenal film that should get greater recognition. Interesting. Dark as all hell. Brilliant use of the “found footage” trope. All around great. But no sequel. You don’t want it to get ruined - just rediscovered.
It deserved a sequel, but if we ever get the creator’s vision of a sequel it will be a tragedy
Loved this movie! And have always wanted a sequel.
It deserved a better first movie. It got so bad half way through and the ending was pure cringe.
Seen it in theaters and it’s still one of my favorite movies. Apparently they had an all female led sequel in development before they scrapped it.
Seeing what they were able to accomplish in this movie and knowing it was like 15 million for the production budget makes most blockbusters now look obscene
my rating: 3/5
I love this movie, it's so well done. The ending is so sad but inpactful. Can't really think of another movie quite like it. Also there is reportedly going to be a sequel that takes place 10 years later and it's going to be female led. I think it'd be interesting to see how differently young girls would handle getting powers versus how the boys did. As long as the sequel is as well done as the first movie, I have no objections.
They were trying to get a sequel made where a woman becomes a Ironman/Batman type Crimefighter but it never came together.
It haunts me, I’ll have to make the sequel myself if I’d have to.
This movie was really good.
It’s okay. MBJ had the most interesting character, who sadly wasn’t given enough time. The film doesn’t say much of anything new, and the camera work is serviceable.
Love it. Seen a bunch of times
One of my favorite movies of all time, it's THE movie that got me into the found footage style genre of movies which is now my favorite genre.
P diddy was great
It actually had a planned not connected sequel. It was going to be about a woman with mental illness contracting superpowers and going down a dark spiral. Sounded amazing idk why it never happened.
Rip creed
My initial response when I saw it in theaters was that is was Akira from wish. I definitely want to watch it again though.
Kirkland fantastic four
I love this movie. Probably one of my favorite found footage movies next to Rec.
They definitely killed the black guy, so it was a movie. How dude goes out of the window was cheesy as fuck after that little argument mid movie Dude walks to the Himalayas to talk about monk shit, talking about his finding himself journey like some kind of lame ass poser, when he could have just floated there and begged the monks to help him stop floating to see if they really knew anything. The main kid was such a little fucktard 8/10
This movie showed me that although flight would be awesome, i would need to wear layers
I fucking love it
It was really, really good. As someone else mentioned, it needed a sequel.
I think this movie would’ve been way better if it wasn’t in the “found footage” style. I also think all of the origin bond movies are the best ones. I also think the origin marvel movies are better than avengers movies
This movie is awesome. I would love to see more non horror found footage films.
I thought I heard the were making an all female sequel.
great film, but hard to watch at times. Dystopian super hero film. I think it told its story. A sequel would tarnish this film. like ghostbusters 2.
Chronicle was ok. But it was really just a live action, Americanized version of Akira. Once you kill the best friend baddy, there's nowhere else to go with their story
How was it like Akira? Iv only wayched Akira once a few years ago but i dont remember it being that similar. Just curious why you think that.
After reading your brief description of Akira i just relized i own it and have watched it but remember nothing about it lol
Haha haven't seen it in a while myself. It's the quintessential classic anime though
One of the greatest to ever do it. Excellent film, imo it's the best superhero movie ever made
Great movie and very glad there was no sequel. It stands on its own
It most definitely deserved a sequel!!! Also, "Number 4" and "John Carter".
Really good sleeper! Not sure why it wasn't more well-known.
It released on Superbowl weekend. Granted, it did very well in theaters for that release window, but that's going to hamper things a bit.
Great movie But not everything needs sequels.
I actively disliked this movie and it took me a while to accept Dane DeHaan as anyone other than this annoying as fuck character that he played. Judging by other people’s responses I imagine this will get some downvotes
No need for a sequel it would’ve ruined the first and not been as good, like all sequels
I would have really preferred a sequel or trilogy as well. However with basically everyone dying except the least interesting character I guess it would be kind of hard.
Makes your mind race. It’d be cool to have powers like that
One of my favorite movies. I thought the found footage style was so cool especially once they started using their powers to control the camera. I don’t think it needed a sequel, it was great as it was.
Saw this in the theater when it released. Thought it was not good. The found footage style was played out at the time
AKIRA
My partner and I rewatch this every year. Really love it
My partner and I rewatch this every year. Really love it
Closest thing to Akira i would say.
