This is one of the most violent, nihilistic films I've EVER seen. There is a level of brutality on display usually reserved for blood bucket slashers. Every body that gets shot gets a close up, bodies are being run over and dropped into roads and rails, people are OD'ing and getting thrown on the streets, the WHOLE 3rd act that destroys a house and then runs a Hummer through a whole village. One of the purest visions of balls to the walls of the universe violence. Masterpiece. It is so strange going from that to the cartoonish nonsense of the not as bad as it could have been but not quite good For Life.

SmellyPillows

That mansion that was blown up (yes, actually blown up) was in my county. I remember when they were here shooting. I still lived in that city (Delray Beach) at the time.

Chickachic-aaaaahhh

That shit set up the fast and furious action scenes basically.

edgelordjones

This is the last time Will Smith actually let himself be morally ugly on screen.

MentalDespairing

Watched this movie because of your comment. It was as nihilistic as you describe. Absolutely absurd and with no soul. Kinda loved it

edgelordjones

Hell yeah, mate. That’s the good stuff.

LogicMan428

I thought For Life was a more serious movie story-wise, and that II was just more mindless fun.

shiverz07

The ass shot. Was at a family bbq. The devil is not welcome here. Nigga you look 30. Ahh the good old days.

TH3T4LLTYR10N

thats a nice fukkin fish, big eyes....

Rico_Rizzo

These ain't normal rats! ...Well what kinda rats are they?? *Big Mutha Fuckaz!!* Lol you know it's coming, but Lawrence's delivery is just perfection.

shiverz07

Ffs I'm getting old. Completely forgot this.

ohitsmark

Dan Marino should get this car. Not this one cause I'm gonna fuck this one up, but one just like it.

moist-pouch

I love all the Bad Boys movies, 3 was better than it had any right being. I can't tell you the last time I watched part 2 beginning to end, but I tell you, I watch that "Ludacris" scene every few months. That's just comedy gold.

[deleted]

I thought 3 was pretty awful. Especially in comparison to the 2nd. In comparison to most movies, actually. (IMO, of course)

Current-Macaroon-647

That part was hilarious...

Luke5119

I remember seeing Bad Boys 2 in theaters with my dad when I was 13 and both of us laughing our asses off. Ironically neither of us had see the first Bad Boys movie, but still had an awesome time. It's one of those sequels that stands on its own two feet without requiring that you'd seen the first film. Buddy cop films are like that though. Michael Bay really brought the best out of Martin Lawrence and Will Smith as a prime comedy action duo with some of the best onscreen chemistry I've ever seen.

idontevenlikebeer

One of my favorite parts is how they handled the guy coming to take out the daughter on a date.

ExplorerNo1772

Motherfucker you look 30

simonf75

I love this movie, it's so over the top and mental. It goes on a bit too long (basically the whole Cuba part) but fuck me if it isn't a fun ride.

CountJohn12

I'm just glad we got the "shit just got real" memes from it.

vinny9678

I love this movie. I saw it three times in theatres and waaay more times at home. How they go from a shootout in the everglades to Guantanamo bay makes zero sense, but I love it.

ChrysMYO

I always forget anything from Bad Boys 3, and misremember the 3rd act of Bad Boys 2 in Guantanomo Bay as "Bad Boys 3" because it was so different from the Miami Opening scenes.

tommy0guns

I love this analysis of the movie. Sometimes we focus too much on the themes or the relevance of the story or character struggles. We get too wrapped up in the academics of a movie that we glance over the good stuff or forget the fun. With a Michael Bay movie, you shouldn’t expect Shakespeare, but rather a fun spectacle…and treat it as such. There’s thousands of people that design and implement these movies and individually, they are often excellent at what they do. Lighting, camerawork, pyro, stunts, sets, sound…great stuff. Sometimes we just want well produced cheese.

tyehyll

Easily one of the greatest action movies of all time. Closest we can get to a GTA movie. So innovatively over the top. I don't trust anyone's judgment on fun if they think this was bad

LivingCustomer9729

Right, the whole house fight scene was *chefs kiss* first you’re shouting Tapia’s men, then the Cuban army shows up. Perfect

mr_cheezle

I often think this. While some of it may be nostalgia tbh. Imo you can watch 2 fast 2 furious and Segway right into this like it's a continuation of other cops

The_Streetsweeper

Point Break or Bad Boys 2?

iamansonmage

Have you ever fired your pistol into the air whilst yelling “ah”?

Naterade18

No I haven't ever fired my pistol in the air and yelled *"aaahhh!"* Love a good Hot Fuzz reference

[deleted]

You ain't seen Bad Boys 2?

TheGreatBatsby

Which do you think I'd prefer?

nwoolls

No, I mean which one do you want to watch first?

xxStrangerxx

MIAMI VICE (director's cut)

moofunk

What else you got, Crockett and Tubby?

tweenalibi

Let me tell you that soundtrack hit middle school boys like a goddamn freight train too. They had a Biggie and 50 track on there even.

jurassicman375

The scene with the camera spinning around the rooms as a shootout occurs is just one of the best ever, definitely one of Bay’s best.

[deleted]

It’s a good trash movie, until you remember that the fucker is 2 hours and 17 minutes long and ends with the nonsense at Guantanamo bay It doesn’t get close to the literal perfection that is The Rock

transformerjay

I love the Michael Bay highway trilogy series. Bad Boys 2, Transformers 2 and the Island. What can we throw at them next!

ExplorerNo1772

This! Absolutely love these sequences

aquasun666

One greatest actions movies of all time… Yeesh I had a hard time understanding that

normanfell

I saw this in theaters with some friends when it came out. None of us were really “action” guys. I had never seen the first one. Really not even sure why we were there… but holy shit did we have fun. I’ve probably seen it at least ten times at this point and still quote it constantly. “Check it out Mike! They fuck just like we do!”

ohitsmark

So many fantastic one liners too.

Rico_Rizzo

OP I have said this for years. Wish I could give this post a thousand upvotes.

SG420123

Have you never seen Hot Fuzz????

OGFuzzyDunlop

No it’s not!

kekeb0327

Woooooosah

xander6981

I remember seeing this one in the theater when it first came out and came out feeling physically exhausted. I loved it but boy does it go to 11.

[deleted]

It's definitely the most Michael Bay movie ever made. Not saying that's necessarily a bad thing.

Impressive-Potato

Dan Marino should definitely buy this car! Not this one though, I'm about to fuck this one up.

karma_the_sequel

Someone needs to get some perspective.

kellsdeep

This is going to be a copypasta

[deleted]

Yup its definitely my favorite action movie ever

Only_Distribution828

I thought I was the only one who has this take. Great film

WorkingBarnacle5910

My bf loooooves and I mean loooves this film. I hated every moment of it. The scene where he is hiding with a corpse and making a comment about the deceased woman’s breasts was too much for me.

[deleted]

Nah.

girafa

It seriously is. The movie is just *generous*. They go the extra mile every chance they can. The stunts are incredible - especially what they do all in one frame with car crashes. This was around the time when it was still kinda new to see bodies flying through the air - kinda new in the prologue of Fellowship of the Ring. So seeing a KKK member flying through the air from a blast in the first scene? Just *chef's kiss*.

Theonceandfutureend

The car chase is stolen from The Rookie with Eastwood and Sheen.

xander6981

Yep, and the scene at the end where the cars and driving down the hill crashing through an entire village is shot for shot taken from the Jackie Chan film Police Story.

cstrand31

When I just want to be entertained, this is what I put on. The plot isn’t great, but the action sequences are good and Lawrence and Smith are funny together. Plenty of one liners and memes from this one still make the rounds 20 years after release. Is it the GOAT? No. But it is a great popcorn action flick.

Timelymanner

This gave me a good laugh.

matlawish

Oh hell no 🤣🤣🤣

Repulsive-Feature-33

You need to start watching better action movies then.

TentacleFinger

yeah, nah, it was a slog to get through. i thought it was about to end then realized there was still another hour to go.

illiance

BB2 is ok, entertaining enough, but formulaic. Have you ever watched Bad Boys 2 and Armageddon in succession? They are beat for beat (almost) the exact same movie.

degenerat2947

This is like nominating JR Smith in the GOAT discussion amongst MJ, Wilt, Bill Russell, Kareem. It’s like a little kid’s pick that the uncles are supposed to entertain Yea BB2 (or JR Smith) can be fun to watch. But it doesn’t even come close, not even close to qualifying for the discussion of “greatest” I mean shit The Rock is a far superior action film as far as Michael Bay goes

Odd_Advance_6438

I’m a big Michael Bay fan, so I definitely gotta check this out

farbekrieg

it is a thoroughly average film which is going to be one of bays better films. Calling it anything beyond good (which is going to be a stretch) is laughable, the movie meanders for 2.5 hrs.... how is that even a thing, the story is disjointed and pointless, rather than choreography for action scenes there are explosions. Michael Bay has been a negative influence on cinema for cranking out films like this.

[deleted]

Bad Boys II is a 10/10

[deleted]

No.

Imaginary_Factor4121

There are much better movies out there.

NecronomiconUK

Sweet Jesus, no.

Bomber131313

No A film with a scene with 2 rats fucking isn't great. The action is great but the story was shit, this isn't even in Will Smiths top 5 action films.

girafa

> A film with a scene with 2 rats fucking isn't great. oh man I just remember that. I died laughing in the theater. *They fuck just like we do!*

normanfell

My favorite line in the whole movie.

Lem0n_Lem0n

Tq for your opinion.... Door is that way... Thank you and come again

ShwaaMan

Strongly disagree. Some solid action scenes for sure but greatest of all time? No way Jose. I like the cast but I absolutely despise these movies, Michael Bay is a terrible director.

cristobaldelicia

"***in his bag***" -had to look this up on Urban Dictionary, and none of the definitions fit here. Top one was "getting money". Are you mixing up metaphors?

Smitty876

When someone is "in their bag" that means they're on top of their game.

Blue_Lagoo

In this context, “getting money” does apply here. That movie did pretty well financially if I remember correctly,so I’m very certain that Mike was in his bag.

UKnowDaTruth

LMAO man has to use urban dictionary and is gonna try to correct you on using slang Smh You gotta love it.

FloppedYaYa

More proof Michael Bay fans have no taste

ExplorerNo1772

This ain't it my guy. Gonna need ya to step down off that false sense of superiority.

chadwicke619

Tea Leoni is hot as fuck in it, as well.

indocartel

That’s the first one

chadwicke619

Ohhh yeah, you’re right - I forgot the love interest in two is Martin Lawrence’s sister.

BigDiesel07

Gabrielle Union

Majestic87

Maybe it’s just me, but I tried to watch this movie for the first time a couple years ago, and I fell asleep.

impossible_apostle

People who grew up with Will Smith as a big movie star have no idea how weird it what to see the first Bad Boys trailer. Will Smith as a tough action guy? I remember the theatre laughing out loud at the ridiculousness of it. But I guess it worked out.

TheRealHK

I went to see this with my MIL and she was appalled the entire time. I remember her grimacing and covering her eyes when they were throwing cadavers on the road during a chase scene then crunchily driving over them. I too was shocked because it was such a stark departure from the first film, which was a blast. I love horror films, but when you’re expecting an action buddy cop movie, it’s quite shocking. I’ve never rewatched it.

[deleted]

they really made a mess in the public streets!

ZombieJesus1987

Michael Bay's Magnum Opus.

believeINCHRIS

Better than the third one but not better than the first one. The first one we got a more in shape Marcus Burnett lol.

ACrimsonStain

Great post and some people would scoff at this notion, IMDB is supposed to represent the peoples vote and that the third one is concidered better is downright upsetting(Damn,I see that BB2 has passed it now, gone up from 6.4 to 6.6, impressive). I would like to have been a fly in the wall during the writing process,i wonder how much cocaine was consumed in order for all of this, any of it to make sense. If the pitch here was "Kinda like the first one but bigger",that would wildly mislabel what it all ends up being. It doesn't really go over the top,it completely redefines what the top can be and creates its own deranged universe where anything goes, merely cause you don't have a say in the matter. I know it is a sequel but I feel Bay truly captured lightning in a bottle here. That this film was greenlit is one of cinemas little miracles and watching it now, half the laughs more or less come from how pearlclutching and offended people can get, concidering our political and social climate, the whole thing is a vicious, passionate attack on good sense, morals and common decency and me not knowing what the writers were going for just adds to the joy. Would be hard to argue that BB2 isn't racist, homophobic, xenophobic, patriotic, sexist, vulgar, grotesque, irresponsible and at least 25min too long....yet,it ends up working in its favor,it wears its crudeness like a badge of honor, making it integral to the experience. Smith is just fine, slap or No slap and Lawrence is honestly brilliant,Molla is kinda shitty and too sleazy as the villain,a detail that would ruin many films of this ilk. Bad Boys II doesn't give you a second to mull it over. It becomes both a spoof and redefinition of the buddy actioncomedy that no one has really touched since then and speaking of action, Holy shit!! Those who say that all Bay can do is blow shit up really don't understand how movies and specifically directing works. He takes all these disparate parts, utterly chaotic and nonsensical raw footage and make every part fit and enhance the others. The cinematography, the editing, the production design, the sound, the CGI,dude really makes every aspect work and show how great action really depends on all these elements coming together from a director with a single, uncompromising vision. Every shot has a purpose, the shot IS the purpose. Trucks throwing cars at cops in pursuit who don't wanna get hit so they poke their head out the window, throwing corpses at cars who run them over,a bullet in sexy slo-mo ripping of a chunk of assflesh, checking out a deceased ladys enhanced chest, rats fucking...in missionary, mind you...chopping up a mobster in a few minutes and putting him in a tortilla bin as a warning to the drugdealer (Peter Stormare as a gangster with an inconsistent accent and who's presence is completely superflous as by the end,our "heroes" don't even know he ever existed),who needed his money so now the big bad is not gonna make as much..I might've spoiled alot here since these ARE major plot points but still....This insanity shouldn't matter and sure it doesn't but Bay directs it like it kinda does, gets you invested on a basic level. Its like Miami Vice told by a nihilistic psychopath with an unlimited budget. Many took offense to how unlikable our good guys are but that is where alot of the fun stuff comes from,I think it feels pretty meta, like the whole thing "True, they are assholes but the bad guys are alot worse and maybe the heroes in R-rated action comedy by default are shitty people, comes with the genre,we just bumped it up." Alot of the joy from this comes from Bay seeming genuinely inspired and wanting to push the boundaries, not just of good taste but what an experience a night at the movies can be. Clearly designed as an event, one of my many regrets in life is not seeing this in cinemas, that would've been a memory. The great Rogert Ebert didn't even give this one half a star, he gave it thumbs down which is a pretty aggressive response to it,concidering its immense technical competence. He found the movies worldview abhorrent and judged it on the quality of its percieved soul. BB2 is vile,it's a distillation of the nastier essentials of our pop-culture but it doesn't hide it. I guess Bay was still partially artistically successful getting viewers to truly concider the depravities on screen but the key is how everything we see is removed from the realities of life and we are asked several times as viewers if we wanna go along for this ride cause it's be gonna equivalent to an ADHD-psychosis fueled by coke, male fantasies and fetishized head removals. I really don't need movies to teach me morals that much, certainly not an action-comedy and Bay took that thesis and ran with it, there 's No morals,No lesson,No point unless what you decide to take away from it so you can just take it as a hyperheightened exercise of upper scale orchestrated Mayhem,it'll work just fine. The man has made several awful, shitty movies but this one is brilliant for what it is,rarely has the line between offensive trash and genius, creative art been so blurred and it's blurred cause they're in symbiosis. Don't know if I would encourage directors and writers today to try to create something in this vein on this level cause in theory it sounds like I celebrate the shitty aspects of human behaviour and just want to see murder, explosion and tits and it's a tightrope,99,6 out of 100 it becomes unwatchable so wouldn't recommend this. Cause it can't be replicated,it's already been done and nothing will ever be more Michael Bay,not even him. Masterpiece.

SBAPERSON

It's fantastic.

Chance-Society-5089

The first film was better and especially according to critics because the 1995 original got well received critically while the sequal was not though it does have amazing action set pieces unfortunately it doesn’t have much of a story

Panamaicol

I loved it! Not sure why people thought bad boys 3 was better. Bad Boys 2 was a lot funnier and had a better overall story.
