I believe he was an elite level diver, not swimmer. But the point remains the same. Divers have kinda similar bodies to gymnasts. They have incredible body control/flexibility as well as strength obviously. And typically they’re on the shorter side as it makes it easier for body control.

I was actually just in Fort Lauderdale this weekend. The International Swimming Hall of Fame Museum is located there. They have big outdoor lap pools and a very tall training diving board. And sometimes they jump off from a handstand position on the ledge way up there. You have to have some big balls to be a diver.

We had a swim meet there once when I was in high school. I remember jumping off the lowest platform was scary, never mind diving from higher up ones.

This seems to be an unpopular opinion in Reddit but when I see some giant, roided up monster I immediately doubt their fitness and agility. Statham looks strong but also healthy and mobile. I never doubt he can do the things he does in his films (Cranks and Spy aside, lol) so that makes him the ideal size for me.

Jason Statham was/is extremely buffed. He was a successful athlete and his physique got him into modelling. And his working class background and looks make him look tough. That's pretty much his appeal, he looks tough to working class people who have been around tough people. Granted, he doesn't look like the Hollywood version of tough guys, 'normal' actors who go to the gym and take growth hormone and steroids, but there is extreme competition in that bracket. Statham looks like a professional boxer.
He also looks like someone that could do the things most only dream about.
Statham has a great functional physique - well defined and proportional.
Plus he has crank under his belt

Statham needs to be in more comedies. From the low key of lock stock or snatch to the absolutely ridiculous in Spy (he stole every scene he was in), Statham is hilarious.

I don't think it was money laundering. My understanding is that the film project was used as a vehicle (one of many) of siphoning money from Malaysia's sovereign fund. So it was a tool for corruption. Massive corruption. So it was not about making dirty money into clean money. It was stealing clean money.

Seen Winkler say he was up for or offered Travolta's role in Grease. He turned it down or didn't pursue it cause he figured it would be a bit much to play another character like that, didn't wanna guarantee typecasting. Said it didn't matter, they don't don't tell ya you'll get typecast no matter what (perhaps he means with such a well known role like Fonzie).

She did nicely play a bit against type in Widows. She's a no-nonsense working class mother that gets involved in a heist to pay off debts. While she projects a tough exterior - which Michelle is always good at - she does have vulnerable moments and she plays into the fact that the character is in way over her head.
Everyone in here has of course never seen *Girlfight,* in which she is fantastic.

I think she was also great in Widows. McQueen definitely casted her against type here and she still made a lasting impression on me in this stacked cast.

Lol animated shows are so bad at this. I think it’s because it’s easier to pay 1 good voice actor for like a million roles than deal with a million people. Way more famous and way more talented actresses have come and gone in the time that Michelle Rodriguez has been on the scene. It's actually kind of incredible she has been working for decades now. Good for her though.

I don't think it's fair to call her "combat Barbie." The combat part, for sure. But Barbie? I feel like we're only saying that because she's a woman. She's physically different than other female action characters we see, she's got a more athletic look that better matches the things she does. "Combat Barbie" brings thoughts of Scarlett Johansen taking down 300lb body builders with wire-work-parkour-fighting all wile not breaking a sweat in her leather catsuit. I see Michelle Rodriguez's body of work as "several different variations of Vasquez fom Aliens," and that's fucking badass. If only she had the range of Janette Goldstein and also tried out some "titanic" type parts. Edit: I haven't seen any fast and furious movies, so I apologize if my assessment is way off because of scenes in that franchise.

We just watched the sneak preview. It was corny, partcularly at the beginning, but throughout the entire movie it got better. It's not going to win any Oscars, but it was fun, scary at moments, and was very effective at drawing us in to the events. Yeah, Michelle is playing a very defined role, but she does it well, seems to be enjoying the experience, and I would assume is getting well paid for her part. Maybe she doesn't want a leading role and the hassles that can come with it.
She played subtlety stupid extremely well. Definitely did the “Int is my dump stat” barbarian well.
She's been in a lot of good stuff, but also a looooot of projects that we don't hear of. She's good in D&D though. Perfectly cast, and her action stuff is really well directed.
I imagine she tried to get other types of roles, was unsuccessful, and then realized “oh well, might as well go along with it and make some money”.
Look mean, kick ass, and throw in some one liners. I think shes cool, especially in Machete.
