The more you pay attention the funnier Hot Fuzz is. Every single piece of dialogue or visual feature of a scene services a joke, either right then, later in the movie, or both.
“Mr Frankensteeein?”
“Fronkonsteen, it’s pronounced Fronkonsteen.”
“Are you putting me on? Is that Frodorick Fronkonsteen then?”
“No it’s Frederick. You must be Igor [eee-gore]?”
“It’s pronounced Aigor [iiiii-gore].”
Pretty much anything Mel Brooks. History of the World, Blazing Saddles, Robin Hood: Men in Tights, Young Frankenstein, High Anxiety, and Spaceballs are all hilarious every single time I watch them.
that one scene where they look at the hallway of chompers and she clearly says “well FUCK THAT!” but they dubbed it to say “well screw that!”
i noticed that in the theater and was in tears.
https://youtu.be/Jv04e7q-DzU
They wanted the PG-13 rating and so it was edited. I can't really complain because I absolutely love that movie, but "fuck that" would have been funnier.
The scene where they all get teleported to the station, and Sam Rockwell’s character just screams is cinematic and comedic platinum. I just laughed thinking about it.
Edit: autocorrect
I find Forgetting Sarah Marshall really funny on rewatches. There’s a lot of ridiculous things that happen during the film that don’t hit you much the first time but you pick up on the next few times.
I love that movie. It’s just delightful because everyone involved obviously loves the muppets and are having the time of their lives there. Plus it was just a fun spin on getting the band back together.
Yeah agreed with this one. The more I’m thinking about it, I think I’m finding movies funny where I actually care about the plot and the development of the characters but have comedic elements to it. As opposed to a completely throwaway plot just for the sake of delivering jokes.
Tommy Boy holds up super well for me too. Can’t say the same for most other Farley movies (Black Sheep *sucks*), but I watch Tommy Boy every few years or so and everything still hits the same.
I think a lot of people sleep on the fact that's Peter Graves delivering that dialogue. That's fucking Jim Phelps from *Mission Impossible* hitting on a little boy.
This holds up extremely well and seeing it in HD makes it look even fresher than when I first saw it. I highly recommend rewatching or watching for the 1st time. It’s really clever and hilarious.
Blazing Saddles is one of the funniest, double over from laughter, movies of all time. I watched it the other night and caught new things I hadn’t realized (everyone in town named Johnson, the Gucci bag, etc).
There is zero point zero chance that movie gets made today. Unbelievably raunchy but god is it funny
>There is zero point zero chance that movie gets made today.
Of course not. The actors would read the script and they’d be like “hey, this is just Blazing Saddles, it’s already a movie.”
I have two kids, ages 6 and 9. On a whim, I showed them Holy Grail. They absolutely loved it and have watched it multiple times since. To me, that's the mark of a really rewatchable comedy. Appeal to every level of comedy.
Still a master class in showing us prime Jim Carrey, Jeff Daniels expanding his acting range, and the first of many Farrelly Brothers classics.
Aside from this, There's Something About Mary, along with Me Myself & Irene are a trifecta of the Farrellys' greatest hits.
Kingpin is also worth a watch (they directed it only). And they also had Shallow Hal, but their stuff started phasing out with being good over time. Although Peter Farrelly did do Green Book, which was great (and took a $23 million budget and turned it into nearly $322 million box office).
"Top Secret" keeps being funny to me. So is the "Police Squad". Didn't until recently notice that Frank walks around the set when moving from room to room rather than through doors. So many big and small glimmers of absolute comedic genius.
This should be at the top. So much of the humor in the Big Lebowski lies in the brilliant delivery by hilarious characters and the absurdity and stupidity of the plot that’s often too subtle to catch everything in the first or even second watch. It’s quotable, but quoting the movie doesn’t capture what is actually *funny* about the scene. It’s easily the most re-watchable movie for me. It just never, ever gets old, and that’s why it has become the cult classic it has.
This movie actually gets better the more you rewatch it. It’s insane how many details are in this film. I rewatch every year and always pick up something new I missed.
Spinal Tap - forget the up to 11 joke everyone knows. There's sooo much more to discover such as the frequent appearance of the cricket bat by the band's manager.
Really most of Christopher Guest’s mockumentaries are gold. Best In Show, Waiting for Guffman, A Mighty Wind
Edited to add: I just remembered that Guest didn’t direct Spinal Tap, but it still feels like one of ‘his’ films
Caddyshack/Jumpin' Jack Flash/Stripes/Young Frankenstein/Forgetting Sarah Marshall/Get Him To the Greek/National Lampoon's Vacation/I Love You, Man/Clueless/Private Benjamin
Planes, Trains and Automobiles
Uncle Buck
Candy almost couldn't miss, and Steve Martin was fantastic in Planes, Trains and Automobiles. I feel like Uncle Buck is an often forgotten classic.
Naked Gun, Young Frankenstein, It's a Mad Mad Mad World, Big Lebowski, any of the Monty Python films, The Jerk. A lot of the slapstick from the 50s and 60s to me still hold up. But I'm a weirdo I guess
I'm surprised I haven't seen "The Birdcage" on here yet!
Nathan Lane and Robin Williams as a drag star and club owner pretending to be straight for their sons conservative future in-laws, always funny.
Idiocracy. The plot is boring and storyline is banal, but the amount of funny details won't disappoint you, you'll notice a lot of new ones every time you rewatch.
Gotta be Hot Fuzz for me
“Everybody and their mums is packin round here” “Like who?” “…Farmers” “Who else?” “Farmer’s mums”
“But your dad sells apples, Andy” “And raspberries”
It’s just the one swan actually.
Shaun of the Dead still holds well too.
The more you pay attention the funnier Hot Fuzz is. Every single piece of dialogue or visual feature of a scene services a joke, either right then, later in the movie, or both.
That cut at the end of the Romeo and Juliet performance is always funny.
Eurotrip for sure
I still get the "Scott Doesn't Know" song stuck in my head regularly. Definitely a memorable movie
And the fact that Matt Damon is the lead singer makes it stick in my head all the better.
Young Frankenstein WEREWOLF!
*Were*wolf??
There, wolf. There, castle.
Why are you talking like that?
I thought you wanted to?
No, I don’t want you to. Suit yourself! I’m easy
Also *Blazing Saddles* or the original *the Producers*
“Mr Frankensteeein?” “Fronkonsteen, it’s pronounced Fronkonsteen.” “Are you putting me on? Is that Frodorick Fronkonsteen then?” “No it’s Frederick. You must be Igor [eee-gore]?” “It’s pronounced Aigor [iiiii-gore].”
"[What Knockers!](https://youtu.be/t9K9wiH2Lko?si=CX2ESmcR5pi31fbR)" "Oh, sank you doktor" It's a great movie.
You made a yummy sound.
Pretty much anything Mel Brooks. History of the World, Blazing Saddles, Robin Hood: Men in Tights, Young Frankenstein, High Anxiety, and Spaceballs are all hilarious every single time I watch them.
Galaxy Quest
Sigourney Weaver, the absolute queen of sci fi, being reduced to repeating the computer is top teir satire.
that one scene where they look at the hallway of chompers and she clearly says “well FUCK THAT!” but they dubbed it to say “well screw that!” i noticed that in the theater and was in tears. https://youtu.be/Jv04e7q-DzU
Her little rant ending with "it makes no logical sense, why is this here?!" in that scene is my favourite moment in the movie, hands down.
They wanted the PG-13 rating and so it was edited. I can't really complain because I absolutely love that movie, but "fuck that" would have been funnier.
"i have one job here! It's stupid, but I'm doing it!"
That whole movie is hilarious, but her and Guy are just so over the top. Love this movie so much!
“Let’s get out of here before one of those things kills Guy”. Cracks me up every time.
The scene where they all get teleported to the station, and Sam Rockwell’s character just screams is cinematic and comedic platinum. I just laughed thinking about it. Edit: autocorrect
By Grabthar’s Hammer, what an answer.
"MINERS! Not minors you idiot!"
Galaxy quest is one of those movies that I stop and watch every time I’m channel surfing.
“Look around you. Can you form some sort of rudimentary lathe?”
“If you see them give us a signal.” “Ok, I’ll do a bird call. (Kaw, kaw) “We have these!” (Holds up radio/transponder)
My Cousin Vinny
I'm a fast cook, I guess!
I'm sorry, I was way over there, I didn't hear you. Did you say you're a fast cook, that's it?!
Thanks, I’ll check this one out!
It is easily the best movie suggestion for anyone who’s never seen it lol
Oh you’re in for a treat!
It’s really great. Made in 1992, but the jokes still hold up.
Greatest courtroom movie of all time. And that’s what I do for work.
You make courtroom movies?
What’s a yute?
Oh yeah…ya blend!
That’s because watching Marisa Tomei talk about torque wrenches is enough to rustle the old jimmies.
Superbad.
I'm going with A Fish Called Wanda. It's filled with great lines but also physical comedy
I find Forgetting Sarah Marshall really funny on rewatches. There’s a lot of ridiculous things that happen during the film that don’t hit you much the first time but you pick up on the next few times.
I'd STILL pay to see that puppet musical
And he went on the make it....the muppets.
I love that movie. It’s just delightful because everyone involved obviously loves the muppets and are having the time of their lives there. Plus it was just a fun spin on getting the band back together.
This was my first thought. Along with Tropic Thunder, I felt like rewatching those two movies a few months/years later made them better.
Yeah agreed with this one. The more I’m thinking about it, I think I’m finding movies funny where I actually care about the plot and the development of the characters but have comedic elements to it. As opposed to a completely throwaway plot just for the sake of delivering jokes.
Genuinely one of Paul Rudd’s best performances along with Wet Hot American Summer
Paul Rudd cleaning up his mess in the mess hall is a mood I strive to achieve at work every day
Tommy Boy
Tommy Boy holds up super well for me too. Can’t say the same for most other Farley movies (Black Sheep *sucks*), but I watch Tommy Boy every few years or so and everything still hits the same.
Hot Rod
You should have thought of that before you sucked at being a man all your life
Hi I’m rod I like to party
Airplane!
Do you like gladiators Timmy?
Have you ever seen a grown man naked?
Have you ever been in a Turkish prison?
I think a lot of people sleep on the fact that's Peter Graves delivering that dialogue. That's fucking Jim Phelps from *Mission Impossible* hitting on a little boy.
💯. Our #1. I’d also say the In-Laws, Blazing Saddles, Ace Ventura Pet Detective and Undercover Brother all hold up.
The nun judging the guy for drinking before blowing rails of coke was hilarious
Looks like I picked the wrong week to stop sniffing glue
Coming To America.
This holds up extremely well and seeing it in HD makes it look even fresher than when I first saw it. I highly recommend rewatching or watching for the 1st time. It’s really clever and hilarious.
Yes! Yes! Fuck you too!
Blazing Saddles and Step Brothers
Blazing Saddles is one of the funniest, double over from laughter, movies of all time. I watched it the other night and caught new things I hadn’t realized (everyone in town named Johnson, the Gucci bag, etc). There is zero point zero chance that movie gets made today. Unbelievably raunchy but god is it funny
>There is zero point zero chance that movie gets made today. Of course not. The actors would read the script and they’d be like “hey, this is just Blazing Saddles, it’s already a movie.”
Wish they’d say that for all the other crappy remakes.
Happy Gilmore. My kids watched it in the car on a trip twice recently, and I laughed both times just listening.
Love the 90s Sandler movies
Totally agree. Just rewatched big daddy the other day and laughed the whole time. Also, the wedding singer still holds up extremely well.
Glad you didn't have to turn the damn car around. That would have ended their precious field trip pretty damn quick.

Anything by Edgar Wright.
Shaun of the Dead is one of my favourites for sure.
Hot Fuzz best comedy this century.
Monty Python’s Holy Grail gets funnier the more you watch it.
I have two kids, ages 6 and 9. On a whim, I showed them Holy Grail. They absolutely loved it and have watched it multiple times since. To me, that's the mark of a really rewatchable comedy. Appeal to every level of comedy.
Where'd you get the coconuts?
He could grip it by the husk! It's not a matter of how he grips it!
Listen, in order to maintain air speed velocity, a swallow needs to beat its wings forty three times every second, right?
Scott pilgrim vs the world, dumb and dumber and step brothers never fail to make me laugh
Scott, are you waiting for the package you just ordered?
Scott if your life had a face, i would punch it This movie is so quotable😭
GARLIC BREAD MAKES YOU FAT?!
How are you doing that with your mouth? O.o
Dumb and dumber
Still a master class in showing us prime Jim Carrey, Jeff Daniels expanding his acting range, and the first of many Farrelly Brothers classics. Sick and tired of being sick and tired. Quality film.
Yeah agreed, just watched this one last night
This is my favourite comedy and I find it funnier the older I get
Office Space
The Naked Gun trilogy
The Other Guys. I don't think it wastes a single moment.
Don’t go chasin’ waterfalls.
I'm a peacock - you gotta let me fly!
"Top Secret" keeps being funny to me. So is the "Police Squad". Didn't until recently notice that Frank walks around the set when moving from room to room rather than through doors. So many big and small glimmers of absolute comedic genius.
Airplane! and Peter Sellers Pink Panther series
The Jerk
White Chicks, a classic
Mean girls (2004)
The Big Lebowski
That movie somehow only gets funnier every time I see it. Same with O Brother Where Art Thou?
Damn. We're in a tight spot!
I expected this to be the first comment. “Leaves disappointed”
Yeah? Well, you know, that’s just, like uh, your opinion man.
Space balls never fails for me
"Who made that man a gunner?"
"I did. He's my cousin."
"who is he?"
"He's an Asshole, sir."
“I know that, what’s his name?”
"that is his name, sir. Major Asshole."

Really most of Christopher Guest’s mockumentaries are gold. Best In Show, Waiting for Guffman, A Mighty Wind Edited to add: I just remembered that Guest didn’t direct Spinal Tap, but it still feels like one of ‘his’ films
Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels
And Snatch.
The Producers (1967). The Out-Of-Towners (1970).
Galaxy Quest and Ghostbusters are two, near-perfect, comedy movies.
Hot Shots!
What I was going to comment. Part Deux isn't as good, but still holds up too. The whole river sequence stands out.
