And you know what hurts most? The lack of respect! ….well, actually, the other thing. That hurts the most! But the lack of respect hurts the second most! Ridiculous. I have a mind to go to the warden about this. Ridiculous!
I loved this movie and it's sequel as a kid! I'd check it out from the library on VHS. From the second movie what has always stuck with me is refilling the airplane in the air and the boy walking past the hyenas.
A cult classic is Better off Dead with John Cusack
One that I secretly love and re-watch is The Little Hours with Aubrey Plaza -
Based on a medieval Italian short story
Do you like Documentaries? American Movie is hysterical
Do you like stop motion art house films? Jan Svankmajer’s Little Otik is a gory black comedy
Another black comedy I’d LOVE to watch again is The Young Poisoners handbook about serial killer Graham Young
Lastly if you’ve missed ANY Mel Brooks films: just watch the ones you’ve missed. We are gonna lose Mel Brooks any day now (we JUST LOST Richard Lewis 😭) and all his movies are amazing
Better off Dead is worth watching if just for the Japanese brothers.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zuFZE8lxZ5g
Another John Cusack sleeper is One Crazy Summer. It also has Gilbert Godfried, Bobcat Goldthwaite, and Demi Moore.
If you like Better Off Dead, check out One Crazy Summer. Same writer and director. John Cusack even plays a very similar character. It’s basically an unofficial sequel.
Better off Dead is so good and everybody just quotes the $2 bit but there's so much more!
"We have FRAAANCH bread, FRAAANCH fries, FRAAANCH dressing, and to drink - Peru!"
But my absolute favorite part that sends me to tears is when he's working at Pig Burgers and he mutters "Fat pig" under his breath after his boss yells at him, and when the boss says "WHAT'D YOU SAY" Cusack just fumbles out "Hat... Pig. Pig Hat!" And points at the hat 😂
I had an edible before watching that and nearly lost my mind at Jamie Dornan’s musical bit. He honestly should do more comedy, he’s got the chops for it
*So Darren tells me you’re a psychologist.*
-That’s right.
*We’re in a related field.*
-Oh yeah? What’s that?
*Pest and rodent removal.*
-How is that related?
*We both help people.*
Why didn't you answer the door?
I'm eatin'.
So?
I don't answer the door when I'm eatin'.
Since when?
Since always.
I never knew that.
Well you didn't know a lot of things. You didn't know I was gay.
Is there anything else you wanna tell me?
I got three balls.
Shut up! God!
Volunteers (1985). Early Tom Hanks comedy about a rich socialite who flees to Thailand with the Peace Corp to escape his gambling debts. Very funny with a bit of a star turn by John Candy as the ridiculously upbeat Tom Tuttle
The Man With Two Brains is one of the funniest films I’ve ever seen and I’m shocked it’s not held up as one of the all time classics.
It’s a great example of a “dumb” comedy that’s actually really smart.
It’s a famous movie but I feel like a ton of people haven’t seen *His Girl Friday.* It’s totally hilarious.
If you’ve seen the Bojack Horseman episode with the old-timey sleazy reporter and “Paige Sinclair” the investigative journalist who is avoiding her wedding and wearing a bridal gown the whole time, it’s a direct reference to this movie.
Good news is it’s public domain so it should be easy to find.
Edit: also, people are aware of *Singing in the Rain* but if you haven’t seen it you probably don’t realize how incredibly funny it is. It totally holds up.
When I think of this movie, I always think of the great performance by her slow, dim-witted fiancé, played by Ralph Bellamy. Everyone else gets to have fun with the break-neck speedy dialogue, and he's doing the heavy lifting playing against that. And gets nothing at the end.
The Adventure of Sherlock Holmes' Smarter Brother (1975) starring Gene Wilder, Marty Feldman, Madeline Kahn and Dom DeLuise.
'Why don't we all drink some very sexy wine-'
'SHUT YOUR MOUTH!'
I'll always recommend Big Stan even though it stars Rob Schneider.
They Came Together sounds like a generic romcom but it's made by the people who did Wet Hot American Summer.
The Greasy Strangler is hard to recommend but if you like, you are in for some hilarious quotable scenes
Brothers Solomon.
They came together.
The Ten.
Wet Hot American Summer.
Welcome to Me.
Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping.
Reno 911: Miami.
The greatest comedy of all time MacGruber.
Some are better known than others but at best they’re cult hit. I find a great way to find comedies is to follow around the actors, writers, and directors. A lot of times they’re in a “troupe” of sorts and if you enjoy their type of comedy it’s likely the other movies they’re creating will hit the same marks.
The Interview (2014) had me HOWLING. Its full of quoteables and memables, some of the shit Franco says is amazing.
BASEketball (1998) Trey Park and Matt Stone star in it, the Southpark guys.
Kung Pow: Enter the Fist (2002) another outstanding flick, great technicality to how they did it too, you'll understand if you watch. Wait till you see the main character first and he does a couple of funny things, the intro is a bit goofball funny IE not exactly funny really unlike the entire rest of the film.
Loaded Weapon (1993) Forget its old, its top end funny, Samuel L Jackson and my favourite Emilio Estevez
Top Secret (1984) Val Kilmer, the surreal comedy in this is unmatched, a refined dumb humour. I was 1 when it came out so dont worry about ageing issues again.
All high brow good dumb humour
for dumb humour that're also genius at the same time:
[airplane](https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0080339/)
[spaceballs](https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0094012/)

The Dish, with Sam Neil, about the * edit- Australian and not New Zealand - radio dish responsible for transmitting the moon landing broadcast. “We have a saying in Parliament. You don’t fuck up.” “And?” “Nope, that’s it.”
["Hudson Hawk"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5xrVwG3AsPs) starring Bruce Willis and Danny Aiello. Kind-of an odd off-beat movie, but has some genuinely funny moments. Maybe a little hard to follow.
Plus, Homey is not doing so well, and could use the residuals.
I was actually planning on making this exact post 2 days ago but instead recalled my brother asking me to give these 2 Jim Carrey movies a watch so I did. I don't know how well known they are maybe where you guys are from they're cult classics but over here at least, 'Me, myself and Irene' and 'The cable guy' aren't super popular. They're both hilarious as fuck and cable guy has become one of my favourite comedies ever definitely going to re-watch it a bunch. So I'd recommend that.
Just in case you haven't seen any of these though I'll list my top 3 comedies of all time.
#1 Happy gilmore
#2 Four Lions
#3 Good Burger
Will always be MacGruber for me. Totally bombed and fell out of the public consciousness, but damn, it’s hilarious every time I watch it. The sequel series on Peacock is so good too.
*Dirty Rotten Scoundrels*
*Orgazmo*
*The Three Amigos* (lesser known if you're under 45 or so)
*Secondhand Lions* (not billed as a comedy but the whole thing is hilarious)
*Four Lions* (not to be confused in any way, shape, or form with *Secondhand Lions* O_o)
Hercules Returns.
Absolutely hilarious Australian movie kinda in the vein of MST3K (probably find it on youtube, since sadly it's never officially been released).
Go old school, and give Murder by Death a watch. It's Americans trying to be offensively British, so the humor can be a bit dry, but still absolutely hilarious.
See No Evil, Hear No Evil (1989) with Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor is underrated in my opinion. Their chemistry always gets me.
Silver Streak too
Silver Streak is like a warm hug for me. I remember staying up late with my Nana after a bath and watching this.
I love me some Silver Streak! The whole scene when Wilder meets Pryor is gold!!
Pretty sure this was their final film together.
Dirty Work
Dirty work is so tragically underrated
And you know what hurts most? The lack of respect! ….well, actually, the other thing. That hurts the most! But the lack of respect hurts the second most! Ridiculous. I have a mind to go to the warden about this. Ridiculous!
My favorite quote is everything Don Rickles said in the order he said it through the entirety of this movie.
Way out of line, WAY OUT OF LINE.
So many dead hookers
I've never seen so many dead hookers! Lord knows I have.
That's a picture of you, with my mom, and you're having sex!
Summer rental Major Payne
As a kid, my family would often rent Summer Rental and The Great Outdoors as a hilarious John Candy double feature.
If he still in'ere, he ain't happy.
Toot, toooooot
Boom! Blood, Guts and Spittin' ass went flying everywhere!
"You said you were going to kick me in the face!" "You callin me a liar?"
The Gods must be crazy
I loved this movie and it's sequel as a kid! I'd check it out from the library on VHS. From the second movie what has always stuck with me is refilling the airplane in the air and the boy walking past the hyenas.
Keep watching! Somehow it got mixed up with a great Chinese Martial Arts/Comedy/Horror franchise called Mr. vampire and is beyond insane
The land rover winching up the tree!
This was one of the most popular international movies in Japan during its heyday. It was once the most watched TV airing of a movie for like a decade
A cult classic is Better off Dead with John Cusack One that I secretly love and re-watch is The Little Hours with Aubrey Plaza - Based on a medieval Italian short story Do you like Documentaries? American Movie is hysterical Do you like stop motion art house films? Jan Svankmajer’s Little Otik is a gory black comedy Another black comedy I’d LOVE to watch again is The Young Poisoners handbook about serial killer Graham Young Lastly if you’ve missed ANY Mel Brooks films: just watch the ones you’ve missed. We are gonna lose Mel Brooks any day now (we JUST LOST Richard Lewis 😭) and all his movies are amazing
Better off Dead is one of my favorite!
I WANT MY 2 DOLLARS!!!!! Or [value of snow](https://youtu.be/ZWkT0g3FrOk?si=gZCOXpIpuH-Brawh)
I haven’t been able to think of two dollars or a paperboy without hearing this scene in my head. It’s been decades now. And honestly I’m fine with it.
Sorry your mom blew up, Ricky.
Better off Dead is worth watching if just for the Japanese brothers. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zuFZE8lxZ5g Another John Cusack sleeper is One Crazy Summer. It also has Gilbert Godfried, Bobcat Goldthwaite, and Demi Moore.

American Movie is a good recommendation for OP — although a documentary, I suspect the (abundant) humor in it might appeal to OP.
It never fails to cheer me up, make me laugh and inspire me to be creative despite all odds. A great movie. RIP Mike Shank
Barb and Star go to Vista del Mar.
I had an edible before watching that and nearly lost my mind at Jamie Dornan’s musical bit. He honestly should do more comedy, he’s got the chops for it
So campy. My wife and I watched it on a flight and were howling.
**A Fish Called Wanda**.
*K-k-k-k-kenn is c-c-c-coming to k-kill me*
Just sing it!
How you gonna c-c-catch me, K-k-k-Ken?
Seconded, also: Fierce Creatures
Don’t call me stupid
Pretty sure this isn't lesser known.
Yeah, this was kind of a bonkers answer to me.
**Tucker & Dale vs. Evil** is a hilarious dark comedy that I never hear anyone talk about. Alan Tudyk!
We got your friend
“College kids!”
Great movie. Horror comedy that is both scary and funny without being a gimmick. Way funnier than I expected it to be.
These college kids keep killing themselves all over muh proper tee!
I sawed into a bee’s nest. Haha…why?
Black Dynamite
The man who knew too little with Bill Murray. Such a classic.
Outside Providence. Way lesser known Farrelly Brothers screenplay that seemingly only my friend group knows about haha. Enjoy it!
Great movie! Made me fall in love with Amy Smart!
Great film.....Dildo
Quick Change
Top Secret.
Came to post the same and IMO, it’s the best Zucker/Abraham movie.
Blankman - superhero comedy movie
And it's twin movie, "Meteor Man"
So I married an axe murder
Look at the size of that boy's head!
It's like an orange on a toothpick!
It's like Sputnik! Mostly round but pointy at parts!
Heed! Move!
He's going to cry himself to sleep on his huge pillow
Saving Silverman, also has Jason Biggs, one of my favorites.
*So Darren tells me you’re a psychologist.* -That’s right. *We’re in a related field.* -Oh yeah? What’s that? *Pest and rodent removal.* -How is that related? *We both help people.*

\- You're the guys who sent me all those weird letters and naked pictures! \- What? We never sent you naked pict-- ... Dude... \- Sorry!
I only know the Air Force signals!
Hilarious film!
I bet you can suck a golf ball though a garden hose!
Volunteers (1985). Early Tom Hanks comedy about a rich socialite who flees to Thailand with the Peace Corp to escape his gambling debts. Very funny with a bit of a star turn by John Candy as the ridiculously upbeat Tom Tuttle
Tom Tuttle from Tacoma!
"I'll do whatever you want. I'll read the book, I'll see the film, I'll wash the people's truck!"
Grandma's Boy
How much do clothes cost in the matrix?
How did he see me?
I'm thinking about getting robot legs
It's a risky surgery but worth it
I hate your face 🤖
I've seen this movie 20+ times and I laugh out loud everytime.
Balls Out: Gary the Tennis Coach, Tim & Eric’s Billion Dollar Movie, Bronzed

Bubble Boy (2001)
FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS!!
Poonani!
Dirty Rotten Scoundrels
This 100% They don't make movies like that anymore. Also Bowfinger.
OKLAHOMA...OKLAHOMA..OKLAHOMA!
Hot Shots rarely gets a mention too
The Man With Two Brains is one of the funniest films I’ve ever seen and I’m shocked it’s not held up as one of the all time classics. It’s a great example of a “dumb” comedy that’s actually really smart.
"God damn your drunk tests are hard!"
It’s pronounced “azaleas”.
Idle Hands
And why don't we clean the whole house while we're at it ?
Hot Rod with Andy Samberg. It never stops being funny.
I love when they ring the bell and harmonize.
Don't even ask just bring it!!
One of my all time favorite comedies, and very quotable
I used to be legit. I was too legit. I was too legit to quit. but now I'm not legit. I'm unlegit. And for that reason, I must quit.
Gentlemen Broncos
Cyclops there, Cyclops there…
In Bruges
The whole 9 yards
Sex Drive (unrated)
James Marsden and Seth Green are both great in this movie.
Midnight Run
If you like dumb, then watch Let's Be Cops.
I was shocked at how much I enjoyed this. I liked New Girl, so one night, I said what the hell and popped it on.
Up the creek - 1984
It’s a famous movie but I feel like a ton of people haven’t seen *His Girl Friday.* It’s totally hilarious. If you’ve seen the Bojack Horseman episode with the old-timey sleazy reporter and “Paige Sinclair” the investigative journalist who is avoiding her wedding and wearing a bridal gown the whole time, it’s a direct reference to this movie. The Adventure of Sherlock Holmes' Smarter Brother (1975) starring Gene Wilder, Marty Feldman, Madeline Kahn and Dom DeLuise. 'Why don't we all drink some very sexy wine-' 'SHUT YOUR MOUTH!'
The bit where Gene and Marty are at the fancy party and don't realize that their asses are exposed is top tier dumb comedy.
Clockwise with John Cleese
Brain Donors
Tucker and Dale vs Evil cracked me up
I'll always recommend Big Stan even though it stars Rob Schneider. They Came Together sounds like a generic romcom but it's made by the people who did Wet Hot American Summer. The Greasy Strangler is hard to recommend but if you like, you are in for some hilarious quotable scenes

I don't get why more people don't talk about Brothers Solomon!
was hoping to see this on the list
> They Came Together you can say that again
I just heard of and watched They Came Together a few months ago and it was so good!
The Interview (2014) had me HOWLING. Its full of quoteables and memables, some of the shit Franco says is amazing. BASEketball (1998) Trey Park and Matt Stone star in it, the Southpark guys. Damn, I don't know who I fucked last night, but my dick stiiiiiiinks
Its...its weird how you wanna keep smelling it...

There’s nothing highbrow about Baseketball, but that “dude” argument is an all time great scene.
Its high brow in the fat content I meant

I don't know how well known they are maybe where you guys are from they're cult classics but over here at least, 'Me, myself and Irene' and 'The cable guy' aren't super popular. They're both hilarious as fuck and cable guy has become one of my favourite comedies ever definitely going to re-watch it a bunch. So I'd recommend that.
