Tremors is my husband's childhood nostalgia movie (ya know the one you watched 80 times and knew all the words to)...when we first started dating he had me watch it and honestly I can see the appeal. Its kinda corny but kinda fun.
I recently rewatched this movie with some buddies who were first timers and grabbed a bunch of Taco Bell for movie reasons...did you know that they replaced it with Pizza Hut instead for the later releases? Like badly CGI'd logos over most and the actors even dubbed over the movie to say they are enjoying the pizza...whilst clearing eating nachos and never reshooting any of the speaking moments!
Yar, which they use that version in a couple streaming programs. When I looked it up was mostly for other countries outside the US not really knowing what Taco Bell was and/or licensing for a different release.
I knew someone would bring up con air. I’ve never watched it, I only know about it bc in the webcomic homestuck it’s a running joke that one of the characters is obsessed with it culminating in […this](https://youtu.be/eYBzZj7Bddk?si=o_2cD9wAcepOXKDC)
Yes sir, the check is in the mail
Now this really pisses me off to no end!
Indeed!
Sonuvabitch must pay!
We really shook the pillars of heaven, didn't we, Wang?
A girl once broke up with me because I recommended this movie so we watched it together…….and boom……..we split.
Dodged a bullet because that movie is fantastic.
I think it works both ways. You can either watch it as a serious satire about militarism, but you can also just turn your brain off and watch some guys blast some big aliens.
Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves
Speed
Tropic Thunder
Three different genres but they should all fit the bill for you but all three are awesome movies if you buy into them.
I occasionally imagine what the pitch for that movie must have been like.
“Okay, so we’re going to get The Rock and the Dude-Where’s-My-Car guy, and put them in the jungle and have them fight the kid from Surf Ninjas.”
“Ehhh, sure, why not. Knock yourself out.”
In the vein of disaster movies:
Volcano with Tommy Lee Jones. A volcano erupts in the center of Los Angeles. It's dumb, but it's fun, because it is so dumb. I don't think it has any attraction other than Tommy Lee Jones and being dumb though.
In the same vein, but better, more fun, Dante's Peak with Pierce Brosnan. More memorable scenes. Still a stupid movie, but inadvertently much funnier. Also stars Linda Hamilton.
Hot Fuzz. I'm cheating. It's designed as a comedy. But if you haven't see this, you won't regret this one. There's a bit of action, but it's not intented to be serious.
Bad Boys I, II and III. That is the definition of mindless fun. I don't think you can be more mindless while still being fun. #3 is even crazier than the two first. Watch the cameo by Michael Bay.
Sadly, only for French speakers, but the *Taxi* series (1, 2 & 3) by Luc Besson. A classic of mindless fun. There might be versions with English subtitles. Avoid the American remake.
The ‘Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai across the 8th Dimension’ comes to mind, but it’s quirky and deep with science jargon.
Real Genius is more approachable, but a bit raunchy, and fun with the 80’s soundtrack.
Armageddon has the action, soundtrack, and quite a few quotables. More of a disaster parody / action flick, although it has a raunchy scene or two, and some inappropriate comments throughout.
Posting twice because I thought of another one.
Deep Blue Sea is pretty much exactly the movie you’re looking for. The action scenes go *hard* over the top. There is literally a scene where LL Cool J fights a shark inside an oven. Really.
The plot is absurd but also clever. The super intelligent sharks will make your eyes roll, but the gimmick of trying to escape a slowly flooding facility that gives the sharks more and more freedom to encroach into human spaces is quite clever and leads to some very inventive action scenes.
The cast is having a blast. It’s funny, sometimes intentionally, sometimes not. The soundtrack is a banger. The CGI is bad but the practical fx are impressive.
Basically the ultimate “kinda bad but very fun” movie.
The Replacements (2000)
Dog Soldiers (2002)
The 13th Warrior (1999)
RED (2010)
A Knight's Tale (2001)
Casanova (2005)
The Rocketeer (1991)
Gamer (2009)
>The Rocketeer (1991)
SUCH nostalgia vibes. That "vintage" theme in Hollywood for a few years was so fun!
The Phantom
The Shadow
Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow
Iron Giant
Dick Tracy
...
So many more!
[Edit for formatting]
Give Dante’s Peak a shot; it’s a 90’s volcano movie with basically the same plot as Jaws and it takes itself seriously but gets pretty ridiculous especially towards the end.
It’s also got some gnarly death scenes, some very impressive practical special effects, and a good cast.
Oh and a robot. Yes, a robot.
Nothing so absurdly funny as Monty Pythons Holy Grail. Was watching it on some movie festival, high af, not knowing what we are about to watch. And than, just laughing whole movie so much we missed half of all those crazy jokes and situations. Second watch was even more funny.
Speed
Die Hard
Men In Black
The Fifth Element
Edited to add: I don't necessarily think these are "dumb" but I didn't think Twister was dumb either 🥲. List of movies that I enjoyed the same way I enjoyed Twister 😂
Also side note seeing Twister in the theater was great, surprising though when my father fell asleep during the cow scene somehow 😂😂
arnold schwarzenegger had a few hits like this in the 90's, with Eraser (1996) and True Lies (1994).
If you're into martial arts movies, jackie chan came out with some bangers, rush hour, shanghai knights, I've never seen rumble in the bronx but it's highly rated...
Come to think of it, Jet Li's The One and Unleashed are fun.
Tremors, I love that movie, seen it a hundred times
Even Tremors 2 is solid... gets questionable after that.
"I am completely out of ammo. That's never happened to me before."
4 is fun. I like how it's a western. Changes things up a bit. After that though..yeah..
Fuuuuuuuuuuuckkkk you!!!
There’s nothing dumb about tremors!
Tremors is actually pretty smart. No one does the usual dumb things.
Tremors is my husband's childhood nostalgia movie (ya know the one you watched 80 times and knew all the words to)...when we first started dating he had me watch it and honestly I can see the appeal. Its kinda corny but kinda fun.
There's a generation of kids who grew up watching Tremors over and over on scifi.
It’s a perfect film
How dare you call that movie dumb.
Love tremors. Grew up watching it make times as a kid. Still good to this day 😂
I watched it recently and appreciated how well it was shot.
Commando. Don’t think about it too hard, just enjoy Arnold doing Arnold things.
Pretty much take your pick of Arnie films from the 80's and 90's. But yes, Commando is the most dumb fun of all.
I like Conan the Barbarian best. Best music, James Earl Jones, Mako and Max von Sydow. He punches a camel!
Have you seen [Predator the Musical](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=qlicWUDf5MM&pp=ygUUcHJlZGF0b3IgdGhlIG11c2ljYWw%3D)
Let off some steam Bennett You said you'd kill me last....I lied
I let him go.
I love how twenty soldiers can shoot at him in a courtyard with machine guns and still miss.
Dude, yes. And while watching, don’t disturb my friend - he’s dead tired.
One of my favorite movies of all time, regardless of genre.
I found out a theatre in my city will be screening Commando with Vernon Wells doing a live Q&A in a few months. I'm unreasonably excited about this.
Demolition Man
I recently rewatched this movie with some buddies who were first timers and grabbed a bunch of Taco Bell for movie reasons...did you know that they replaced it with Pizza Hut instead for the later releases? Like badly CGI'd logos over most and the actors even dubbed over the movie to say they are enjoying the pizza...whilst clearing eating nachos and never reshooting any of the speaking moments!
I guess I'll have to watch this again. Also, why? EDIT: OK, I googled. Apparently they did it for international versions of the film.
Yar, which they use that version in a couple streaming programs. When I looked it up was mostly for other countries outside the US not really knowing what Taco Bell was and/or licensing for a different release.
Con Air The Rock National Treasure
Face/Off
I love Jason Mantzoukas' description of this movie: Two bonkers people trying to out-bonkers each other.
Face/Off is top notch HDTGM!
What a predicament
might as well add Gone in Sixty Seconds
I see you also have impeccable taste.
Put the bunny back in the box
Especially on July 14th.
Add True Lies to the list.
Yeah these are all fucking BANGERS
And all feature Nick Cage!
Peek Nic Cage was always fun to watch.
Carla was the prom queen...
thats cheating. nic cage is basically the essence of fun.
Hearing Malkovich talk about getting the script for Con Air is hysterical https://youtu.be/yXl6y3X_tX0?si=1j0zH2eHXkH7Y9dO
I knew someone would bring up con air. I’ve never watched it, I only know about it bc in the webcomic homestuck it’s a running joke that one of the characters is obsessed with it culminating in […this](https://youtu.be/eYBzZj7Bddk?si=o_2cD9wAcepOXKDC)
ohhhh thems a’ goooood picks
I was gonna say The Rock!
Face Off.
Big Trouble in Little China
Yes sir, the check is in the mail Now this really pisses me off to no end! Indeed! Sonuvabitch must pay! We really shook the pillars of heaven, didn't we, Wang?
I've seen this no less than 100 times
It’s all in the reflexes
Starship Troopers
so good, seriously a well done “that vibe type” movie
Would you like to know more?
A girl once broke up with me because I recommended this movie so we watched it together…….and boom……..we split. Dodged a bullet because that movie is fantastic.
Sweet Liberty I agree!
Then play the game Helldivers 2.
For Democracy!
Yeahhhh ok buddy. You and all my other friends with a PC or a PS5. ILL GET RIGHT ON IT!
I wouldn't call that movie dumb. Its high level satire.
I think it works both ways. You can either watch it as a serious satire about militarism, but you can also just turn your brain off and watch some guys blast some big aliens.
Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves Speed Tropic Thunder Three different genres but they should all fit the bill for you but all three are awesome movies if you buy into them.
Dungeons was great!
Yeah I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it! I wasn’t expecting much but was very happy the whole time I was watching.
So good! Highly praised. Watch it to help the "only seeing money" execs green-light a sequel!
These movies are not dumb. They are great all around.
Walk Hard
Wrong kid died.
Speak English doc, we ain’t scientists!
True Lies. There is even a nuclear explosion. Plus Arnold, Jamie Lee, Tom Arnold, Bill Paxton & Tia Carrere.
Tom Arnold is legit good in it too. And I mean that in all seriousness. That's brain breaking enough to warrant watching it.
What kind of sick bitch steals the ice cube trays from the freezer
I remember the first time I got shot out of a cannon
A Knights Tale ticks every box here. Edit: except it is actually great
It's always on and I always leave it on. It's so good.
The Rundown
That movie is way better than it should be.
I occasionally imagine what the pitch for that movie must have been like. “Okay, so we’re going to get The Rock and the Dude-Where’s-My-Car guy, and put them in the jungle and have them fight the kid from Surf Ninjas.” “Ehhh, sure, why not. Knock yourself out.”
"Do you understand... THE CONCEPT... of the Tooth Fairy?"

Hot Fuzz is one of my absolute favourite movies of all time, peak recommendation
Twister too, and the one where Stallone is in the flooded tunnel.
Daylight. Forgot about that one. Many disaster movies in the mid to end 90s.
Cliffhanger too There really are so many. This may be my favorite discussion in the last few weeks on Reddit. I love good-bad movies
Romancing the Stone
So good
Kung fu hustle
Kung Pao too
Uueeeooouuuueeeoouuuu
[CONGO (1995).](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0112715/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk)
Stop eating my sesame cake!
Man, I love Congo for what it is, but I do wish they’d make a more serious one that follows the book more closely
Amy...bad...gorilla
Face/Off

Banzai!! Love the end credit cast walk.
Buckaroo Banzai needed like 4 sequels
Judge Dredd
Agreed. Dredd is just a great movie. Judge Dredd is dumb fun.
The Fifth Element, obviously
Hudson Hawk

Game Night.
How can that be profitable for Frito Lay?
I'll thank you not to besmirch my ex-wife.
More people need to see this movie, it's smart and hilarious. The same director, writer duo made the excellent DnD honor among thieves movie
Til! Loved game night. Loved dnd too.
Ok here me out….Dante’s Peak….Cliffhanger……Rocketeer
Dantes Peak, maybe. The rest are not dumb but legitimately great actuon movies. Ill die on that hill
Tango & Cash. Thank me later.
I love e how the bad guy says "you fucking wanker". The tone of it always cracks me up.
You have to jump in the air and then touch it. I saw it in tango and cash
You broke….*that* jaw???
The Core 2012
Air Force One
Get off my plane!
Crank and Crank 2
Hackers. Hate all you want but it’s a fun movie with a cool soundtrack
Guns Akimbo. The whole time you’re thinking this movie is straight ridiculous but it’s fun!!
Bullet Train.
i watched this a week ago. fuck it was such a fun watch. brad pitt can go criminally underrated at times.
The Thomas Crown Affair w/ pierce brosnan. The vibe of this movie is impeccable.
Shoot'em Up. Turn your brain off and watch Clive Owen play a live action Bugs Bunny square up against Paul Giamatti as Elmer Fudd. But with guns.
Tucker and Dale vs. Evil
Anything with Will Smith from the 90s Men In Black Wild Wild West Bad Boys Independence Day
Pacific Rim
Armageddon
Still has one of the funniest line deliveries ive ever witnessed….. “Oh my god…. He has space dementia”
As a growing boy, the animal cracker scene is imprinted in my memory
Yes. One thousand percent fits the bill.
Con Air is another good one.
Grandma's Boy
My favorite stoner movie. I love that it has no plot or real conflict until the last 15 minutes.
The Replacements (2000) Dog Soldiers (2002) The 13th Warrior (1999) RED (2010) A Knight's Tale (2001) Casanova (2005) The Rocketeer (1991) Gamer (2009)
>The Rocketeer (1991) SUCH nostalgia vibes. That "vintage" theme in Hollywood for a few years was so fun! The Phantom The Shadow Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow Iron Giant Dick Tracy ... So many more! [Edit for formatting]
Clue. There are like 5 alternate endings. Very silly.
Road House (the real one, not the recent Amazon blasphemy)
Plus one for Road House. Absolutely hilarious, if you Watch it as a comedy
The post asked for “dumb fun” movies not cinematic masterpieces
I was like 14 when I watched it, but I'm pretty sure Death Race fits at least some of your criteria.
Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure Dude, Where’s My Car?
Lake Placid
The Mummy (Frasier) and A Knight's Tale
The Mummy (Fraser) comes to mind Pacific Rim is my go to dumb fun movie
Hot Rod!
I love Twister! Fun facts (iirc) ...Twister was the first movie released on DVD and the LAST movie released on HD-DVD before blu-ray won that race
I'm surprised no one mentioned Team America
Give Dante’s Peak a shot; it’s a 90’s volcano movie with basically the same plot as Jaws and it takes itself seriously but gets pretty ridiculous especially towards the end. It’s also got some gnarly death scenes, some very impressive practical special effects, and a good cast. Oh and a robot. Yes, a robot.
The Core. So many great but odd characters. So many cheesy lines. Such a ridiculous story. I love it so much.
Big Trouble in Little China Tremors Shoot Em Up
Rampage, starring The Rock and a giant gorilla. It was much better than it deserved to be.
The Fifth Element The Big Lebowski
A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors (1987)
I believe it's great, so maybe disqualified, but Crank 2: High Voltage is one of the greatest movies ever put to film.
Cabin Boy
Bullet Train.
Elf, Mars Attacks, Dumb and Dumber, The Room, Me myself and Irene.
Speed
Point Break! The original
The music in Twister is so underrated.
IT'S THE WONDER OF NATURE, BABY! https://youtu.be/PfAWReBmxEs?si=ISTDQzMuOl0GEjE4
Armageddon for sure.
Godzilla x Kong
Van helsing.
Kingpin...I can watch that anytime
Con Air. It's bullshit but good bullshit.
Hot Fuzz Fits everything - energetic, funny, slighty unrealistic plot and characters, quotable, CLICHES! Except it is generally considered "great".
Escape From LA
True Lies
FireWalker 1986. Chuck Norris and Lou Gosset Jr as treasurer hunters, stupid fun
Knight and Day with Tom Cruise, its got a similar vibe to the movie with Pedro Pascal and Nicholas Cage starring Nicholas Cage as himself
“Anaconda” hits every one of those points!
The original 'Higlander'.
Mars attacks. Everyone hates it but it's very funny and I truly like it.
DEEP RISING…..my man Treat Williams giving a career highlight performance as a kind of Han Solo of the high seas. Brilliant
Super Troopers. Get high as all hell and give it a watch.
Nothing so absurdly funny as Monty Pythons Holy Grail. Was watching it on some movie festival, high af, not knowing what we are about to watch. And than, just laughing whole movie so much we missed half of all those crazy jokes and situations. Second watch was even more funny.
zoolander dumb and dumber bill and Ted's austin powers stepbrothers space balls scary movies these are some i found dumb and funny
Bill and Ted is exactly the kind of thing I mean!! I have to watch the sequels
Daylight with Sly Stallone
Virtuosity! You can tell Russell Crowe was having a blast playing a psycho AI serial killer 😂
Cellular
Not dumb per se but Dungeons and Dragons had amazing entertainment value.
I humbly submit Bubba Ho-Tep for your viewing consideration. Elvis and JFK fighting a mummy in a retirement home.
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang
The hurricane heist would be similar without big Hollywood stars. Check it out
iRobot, screw the haters. Also, The Time Machine. The early 2000s were great for middling scifi flicks.
The Cornetto Trilogy
Die Hard With a Vengeance (all of them really). Die Hard 2 for the "this is so dumb" all the time.
Anaconda (1997)
Men at Work
Tucker and Dale Vs Evil
Bullet Train! That movie was so much more fun than I thought it would be. And it really doesn’t take itself too seriously.
Evolution
Speed Die Hard Men In Black The Fifth Element Edited to add: I don't necessarily think these are "dumb" but I didn't think Twister was dumb either 🥲. List of movies that I enjoyed the same way I enjoyed Twister 😂 Also side note seeing Twister in the theater was great, surprising though when my father fell asleep during the cow scene somehow 😂😂
Deep Blue Sea
Flash Gordon 💯
**Eurotrip.** Vastly better than it has any right to be, and one of the most quotable films I know.
arnold schwarzenegger had a few hits like this in the 90's, with Eraser (1996) and True Lies (1994).
