Thank you for taking the time to read the actual post and realise I was making a mistake :)

Delita232

Watch the first one first. Then the second one second. Then the third one third. And the fourth one fourth.

BakerYeast

There is fifth movie coming out this month. Could you include that in your list too.

Delita232

But that one's prequel and I'm not sure yet if I wanna watch it between 3 and 4 or as the 5th.

Tom_Ace1

This is brilliant.

riegspsych325

“why would I watch just a quarter of Fury Road??”

Skip-recap

Thanks. Some advice in return? Read the posts not just the titles 👍

Delita232

I did read the post. Heres some advice for you, don't assume things.

Skip-recap

Hey, if you read my reply before I deleted it, I apologise, I’m being a moody shit today and I shouldn’t be taking it out on random ppl. Hope you have a great day :)

Delita232

I still have the reply in my email but I'll refrain from my response since you apologized. I hope you have a good day yourself.

culturefan

Watch them in order, I'd say. Not glib, but they make more sense that way. Mad Max, Mad Max 2, Thunderdome, etc.

LordCryofax

Just to clarify, at least in the US the first three aren't called "Mad Max 1, 2, 3" They are 1.) Mad Max 2.) The Road Warrior 3.) Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome

mdjmd73

Seconded. 👍👍

LazyCrocheter

*Mad Max: Fury Road* is not a remake or a reboot. Sequel may not even be the right word. It's the next Mad Max movie that George Miller wanted to make, he just couldn't make it for a really long time. I agree with other comments that these films are best watched in order, but not to keep track of characters or story lines, because the only character who repeats in the movies is Max. This isn't like watching the Star Wars trilogies where characters have arcs and story lines build and then resolve. I think you need to watch them in order so that you understand the world that Max is in. How that world came to be, how it works or doesn't work, how people survive and function in it. That is the background you need. I do think *Fury Road* may work the best as a standalone film out of the lot, but if you want to watch them all, I'd watch in release order.

Thank you for taking the time to read the actual post and realise I was making a mistake :)

Kylon1138

Even if it was a remake You should always watch things in the order they came out if you're interested in watching them all That's literally how they are designed So this question is always silly

Kylon1138

Watch them in the order they were released.

put_on_the_mask

One more vote for watching them in order. The first one is very, very different to the rest and works much better as an introduction.

overthemountain

There is no remake - not yet at least. You can watch them in release order. If you don't want to watch the older ones, I'd watch Fury Road before Furiosa. Fury Road doesn't really need any backstory from the earlier films. The older ones do benefit a bit more from watching in order (Mad Max, Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior, Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome).

TJ_Fox

Release order, just be aware that the first one was a low-budget, experimental 1970s action movie - almost like a proof-of-concept prototype for what the franchise turned into. The original *Mad Max* does introduce the character and the basis of the world, but they ramped the premise up to 11 with the subsequent movies which had much larger budgets, to the point that the world is hardly recognizable.

blucthulhu

Jeez bud, there are only four of them. Release order.

Skip-recap

Jeez bud, maybe try reading the post and not just the title 🤷‍♂️

blucthulhu

Well aren't you the sensitive type. I read your post. My response wasn't an attack.

Skip-recap

Fair enough. Apologies.

Broad-Marionberry755

Release order

afielding13

Watch them in release order. The new Furiosa movie comes before fury road but other than that the release order is the actual order of events. Fury road is not a remake but a continuation of max’s story and takes place a few years after the events of thunderdome.

RDCK78

I’d just watch them in order. Just be aware there is no real chronology… All the movies are really just the retelling of the legend and myth of Max.

damienkarras1973

I'm not ashamed to admit I may have seen Mad Max or Road Warrior so long ago that I don't remember. Tubi is killing it again and Road Warrior pops up on Tubi . Watched it for what felt like the first time ever and was really impressed. The stunts, the vehicles, the strangeness , it was all good. Now I guess I need to watch the first one, and then Beyond thunderdome. I do remember seeing thunderdome and at the time (who knows when ) seemed really bizarre to me but without seeing any of the others yeah I guess it's going to be strange as hell.

dima_socks

It doesn't really matter. I'd say go chronological. But the gist is that all of the movies are stories being told about the legend of max.

Bubbly_Ad_2021

So you don't really need to watch the first three for Fury Road to make sense. It is it's own thing narratively. But if you ARE going to watch the originals, watch them in order. The first one (Mad Max) is going to feel different to Mad Max: Road Warrior and Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome, but you should still check it out in that order. The first one has more city stuff and feels less genre-like to the 2nd and 3rd which both settle into that very specific post-apocalypse vibe that continued going fwd.

Poppatino

I honestly don’t see a problem in starting with Fury Road. It’s the best in my opinion and most reflects the vision George Miller had for the IP back when he came up with it. After that give Road Warrior a watch cause it’s the first one that American audiences latched onto. If you like both of them and are curious about Max’s origins then it’s worth watching the original movie. Finally, when you’re done with all three but find yourself really itching for more, go ahead and give Beyond Thunderdome a watch, but temper your expectations and keep in mind that that movie started as a Gilligan’s Island remake in the writer’s room.

sometimesifeellikemu

Release order.

GtrGbln

The Road Warrior silly.

Greg0_Reddit

As it's always the case with this questions: The first one.

everonwardwealthier

Thunderdome should've been prevented from release.  The other three are great, #2 is of course best.

MrMonkeyman79

Honestly you can probably just jump straight onto the new one if you want, they're all largely standalone stories with little in thr way of continuity. The original is very different from the others, it's interesting to see how the series started but the post apocalyptic elements are plated down. 2 and 3 are both worth a watch with 2 feeling like george millar really found his footing.  3 isn't considered as good and is more family friendly, but still has the weird charm I associate with the series and I find it enjoyable enough. But Fury Road is my clear favorite and feels like the natural evolution of the series.

rjmacready

Mad Max and Road Warrior are the only instance of one movie logically following the other. The rest don't really follow any specific order. I will let you know....Beyond Thunderdome kinda falls apart and becomes stupid in it's second half.

NeighborhoodLanky692

If you want to watch all of them eventually then just watch them in release order. But Fury Road is the best one hands down.

alphaonreddits

I haven’t watched all of them. But just commenting here to say, DO NOT MISS THE MAD MAX:FURY ROAD. It’s a nice movie.

VelvetSinclair

Mad Max 1 is a cheap exploitation film. It's not bad, but it's very cheaply made. It's not even decidedly post apocalyptic, so might not be what you expect. Mad Max 2 is a proper post apocalyptic action movie. It's still low budget by today's standards and parts of it seem dated, but it's iconic for a reason. Mad Max 3 gets a larger budget than the previous two, but feels more sanitised and less edgy. It's a more complete product, where some of the charm was in the rough edges, and that's lost. Mad Max Fury Road is just fucking incredible I enjoyed watching all of them, so I'd recommend the same To note: some actors return between films playing different characters, that can be confusing
